20 Years ago today,The Greatest NON Palace Premier League game ever????

dimanche 3 avril 2016

Liverpool 4 Newcastle 3 Wednesday April 3rd 1996.

Yes,'That' game! Keegan's Geordie 'Entertainers' as SKY's Martin Tyler had christened them, went into this game in 2nd place behind a C[u]ntona inspired Man Utd,having blown a 12 point lead in just 2 months.

The game started Brightly with Fowler giving the scousers the lead after just 98 seconds, however,in a thrilling game the Geordie's hit back within 15 minutes through Les Ferdinand & a corker from David Ginola to go into H-T 2-1 up.

2nd half continued the thrills & spills & saw the Scousers equalize through Fowler again on 57 before the 'Maverick' that was Faustino Asprilla score on the hour to put the Geordie's 3-2 ahead, only for Stan Collymore to equalise on 63.

Both teams continued pouring forward in search of a winner & with seconds of added time remaining substitute Ian Rush exchanged a 1-2 with John Barnes before Barnes whipped in a cross to an onrushing Stan Collymore at the far post to sidefoot home the winner past the late Pavel Srnicek in the Geordie goal.

Remember Martin Tyler's Commentary?
"Barnes,Rush,Barnes,Collymore closing in!!!!"

Cue a despondent Kevin Keegan, slumped over the advertising boardings infront of the dugout,in utter despair at what he just saw.

It was the final nail in Newcastle's title challenge,as Man Utd ended up not just winning the league, but 'The Double' aswell.
