To celebrate my impending 1000th post, thought I'd start my first thread. Hope it's a good'un...
There's been a season -long sense of urgency about getting in a new striker and a general consesus that Murray, Gayle and Campbell weren't up to snuff or approaching their sell -by -date. What interests me is the sense that, for many, a new striker will single handedly solve our goalscoring issues, even though a minority place greater blame on the quality of service.
So my questions are these; if we could be hypothetically certain Wickham and Gayle remain fit for the rest of the season, could we get by buying a superb new number 10 who could play through the kind of passes that open defenses for strikers to run onto facing the goal, the kind of passes we can't seem to produce in the prem? Do we think Wickham or Gayle could do a job given such service, or not? Or do we feel buying a new striker will definitely fix the problem, regardless of the quality of service, just by their speed / physical presence / eye for goal? In effect, would we prefer a genuine, 20 -goal -a -season striker arriving with the service we have, or a genuinely visonary passer and a fully fit Wickham / Gayle?
