Liverpools 'Big European Nights' v Selhurst Park on a Monday Night

vendredi 2 mai 2014

I instinctively reach over for the remote control the minute the commentator starts banging on about the 'electric atmosphere' at Anfield on one of those 'big European nights', and yes, I'm sure there're great and everything like that if you're a mickey mouser and you're there on the night. But I'm not, and I'm not, so to me it means Jack Sh1t.

However, a warm Monday night in May in SE25 with our Premier League survival assured, a worldwide TV audience numbered in the hundreds of millions, a world class display promised by the Holmesdale Fanatics (God bless every one of them), and I'll tell you what; I'm ready for a big 'European night' that'll rival anything they've ever seen either at Anfield, or on a telly they've half-inched from Currys.

I don't know if Liverpool will win the league or not, I don't really care one way or the other. But come 10:00pm on Monday night, I want the talk to be about Palace, Selhurst, and the atmosphere created by ordinary fans driven by nothing more than sheer joy that against all the odds, we're here in the first place, we've held our own against the big teams, and like it or not, we'll be here next year to cause a few more upsets.
