paul vaessen book

dimanche 25 mai 2014

Just read the paul vaessen book, stuck in a moment by Stewart Taylor.

Its honestly the best football biography ive read.

For those that don't know pauls story.

Brought up in Bermondsey, he signed as a schoolboy for arsenal in1977.

And made history at 18 coming off the bench to score a last minute winner against juventus in turin in the 2nd leg of the European cup winners cup semi final.

At the time juventus had never lost a European cup tie at home in there history.

And arsenal were massive underdogs after drawing 1-1 at Highbury.

The next day paul was on the back page of every national news paper and seemed to have the world at his feet.

Within 2 years of that night, he'd suffered a terrible knee injury that all most crippled him and lhad to retire from football.

2 years after retiring hed lost his wife and child and was living on the streets of south east london with a 120 pound a day heroin habit.

Its one of the most moving and powerful books ive ever read.
