Woosie's half-term report on our youth and Development squads.

Five Year Plan online editor and academy expert Matt Woosnam kindly spoke to myself and John Burgess on Palace Radio on Boxing Day. He told us how the next generation of Palace stars have got on so far this season. He also highlighted which young players he’s expecting to go out on loan early in 2015.

Comparing processors/RAM

I'm looking at 2 laptops,

Intel® Pentium® Processor N3530 (2.16 GHz, 2.58 GHz with Burst, 2 MB cache) Intel® Core™ i3-4005U Processor (1.7 GHz, 3 MB cache)

12 GB (16 GB maximum installable RAM)

8 GB DDR3

Obviously 12 gb ram is better than 8gb, but no idea how to compare processors.

can someone help me please?

Your favourite Palace moment of 2014

Mine is looking desperately around Alexandria, Virginia for somewhere showing palace v Liverpool. Luckily for me I managed it an hour and a half before kickoff in an Irish pub. I had my palace top on and all the Americans in the bar took an interest even though none of them knew who we were. They were still interested and cheering us on even when we were down 3-0

By the time Gayle scored the third the Americans were going mental with me, shouting beers & shots and genuinely stoked by our comeback. There was one scouser in the pub who did a disappearing act at the same time:D

After it all finished and Suarez blubbed on the screen for 15 mins I finished off my beer(s) so I could head back to the hotel. I remember vividly being so full of adrenaline I ended up walking around randomly for about two hours trying to calm down and standing in their Main Street starting a thread about what had just happened

So not only was it my favourite game of the year it was also the best Palace experience

Manager Stats

Sir Steve Coppell managed Palace more times than, Warnock, Millen, Ollie, Freedman, Burley, Hart, Taylor, Dowie, Flemming, and Symmons combined

Pardew is the second longest serving manager in the top flight

Thanks.

James Corden OBE???

Right, that's it. I'm just going to stop interacting with this planet and wait here a while until the stargate reopens and I can get back to my own dimension. They'd never give a national hoour like this to someone as staggeringly annoying as Corden there.

134:

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.

Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.

Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Discussion: Freddie Woodman

If Pardew joins, does he bring Andy Woodman with him as GK coach?

If that happens do we bring Freddie Woodman back to Palace?

A taste of the high life

When it comes to enjoying cheese I love a box of Jacob's 'biscuits for cheese selection' to serve it on. I bought some a while ago and was looking forward to some tonight but the missus told me that she's eaten them all over Christmas. Boo. Anyway, she told me that were some of these in the cupboard that she got in a hamper:

Ooh Waitrose I thought, they'll be nice. How wrong I was. They were horrible and as dry as arseholes. After spitting them in the bin, the Mrs told me there was some Heston Mince Pies from the hamper if I wanted them.

The silence in the house in the house at the moment is deafening.

Who's Everyone's Favourite Palace Fans Faction/Movement?

FA charge Shelvey after the event

How does this work then?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

1) Why is Shelvey being charged and not the Liverpool player for an incident in the same game?

2) Why the feck couldn't the WBA player be charged for the incident against Speroni?

What is the rule here? People can be charged if they clobber a player for a big club, but don't waste your time if you are a club that doesn't matter?

Speroni was just about knocked out FFS.

Sports poster shop

And other posters?

Does anyone know of a good poster shop in London - one that can frame or canvas iconic images.

Google search is not helpful, invariably just pointed to online sites (although I found an excellent online one).

I'd love to pop in somewhere and have a browse.

I remember there seemed to be a place posted on here that had a few Palace pics as well?

Never their fault...

There is only one Steve Parish and 2010

SP I'm sure you look at the bbs and I wanted to say well bloody done on this occasion it was a master stroke move and you deserve credit. You know that you have made the odd error as we all have done in life or business but this is a very well executed plan fantastic stuff. For all you moaners out there have that guys, we just took a top 10 manager from a massive club in the EPL.

Cpfc 2010 keep up the great work onwards and upwards. 3 things left guys

1. Survival in the EPL

2. Stadium

3. Training ground

What would define success with Pardew?

Alright, so we're (highly probably) getting a manager from an established Premier League club. We are currently in a relegation fight. What would you define as success for Pardews tenure?

I would be happy for him to oversee 1. Staying in the league and then our establishment as a proper PL club, one where we don't worry about relegation so much but more how high up the table we can get. A few decent cup runs and pushing the upper half of the table would be reasonable aspirations for me for the next 2-3 years. Style of football evolving to one where we control games with more possession would be very nice too.

Should one expect more than that?

Suggestion: Lasse Vibe

Noticed this fella in the Guardian's list of top transfer targets. Danish international, runaway top scorer in the Swedish league this year, can play on the wing or up front, and comes at a decent price.

Could well be worth a look

Happy Birthday Dave (and others)

Couldn't see a thread on this.

Won't hold it against you for refusing my offer (clearly down to new judge nedd).

Happy Brirthday :p

End of season

Thoughts of where we'll finish under the management of Alan Pardew ?

(if appointed ofcourse ;) )

I feel we will finish above relegation places in 16th place gonna b hard fought second half of the season.

Player of the mid-season 2014-15

We're at the halfway stage of the season, and it's lived up to that old cliché of the 'Palace rollercoaster' alright. Even though our form means we've been heading downwards for the moment, I thought it still might be good to see who people think has been the POTY for the first half of the season, as not all the performances have been bad.

The 15 players in the poll have been chosen as they've all appeared in over half of our games (starting or sub, League and cup). Number of appearances will be in brackets.

Left the poll open for one week!

If Pulis takes the West Brom job.....

....what reception will he get when they come to Selhurst ?

Personally I'm torn. He saved us, but then walked out two days before the season started.

As we don't know what happened (and are probably unlikely to ever know) I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt and clap him.

Both sides have acted with dignity and not had a pop at the other in the press so I'm putting it down to a difference of opinion with both men being strong willed and simply not agreeing.

Discussion: Pardew's Transer Targets

Assuming we get him confirmed today I'm hoping / confident / sure, he'll bring with him a large file of scouted players - the type we don't appear to have compiled in 18m of Premier League life including a year of Moody (still no tangibe evidence of what he actually contributed).

He'll have a lot of contacts and obviously knows the foreign market, particularly France really well.

I'm also hoping he brings with him the key members of his back room team.

I genuinely believe SP will give Pardew a decent transfer budget. I think its the appointment he's been trying to make for a while and will back him as he sees him as the future of this club for the next few years. Christ knows we need some stability as I think it's a miracle we are where we are with the revolving door of managers we've had in the last 4 years.

I'm looking forward to a positive transfer window.

Where can I find the best dental equipment in London?

Hi there,

Where can I find the best dental equipment in London?

Thank you

Alan.

Bring them both home. Alan Pardew manager.....Alan Irvine coach.

Incoming.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Aston Villa (a)

in all the Pardew based chaos, this seems to have been forgotten about and there are some real points up for debate. How do we rebuild the side without the beast that is Mile? Where do we go now up front, still no Chamakh and things aren't working our for the forwards right now. Also, is Murray able to play this one?

Villa are a quick team, even without Delph, they have real threat and we need to remain solid - id go for:

Speroni

Mariappa - Dann(c) - Delaney - Ward

Ledley - McArthur

Puncheon - Bannan - Bolasie

Murray/Campbell

need Scott Dann to really step up as a leader, without Mile, a lot of the ugly work needs to be picked up by Joe Ledley.

Blu-ray Player

Apologies if there's another thread on this somewhere.

The PS3 has recently packed up and we are now without a blu-ray player.

I've had a mosey around on the internets and had my eye on the Panasonic DMP-BDT260EB. Seems straightforward, gets the job done to a high standard, with a few frills.

However, I've been thinking it may be better to pick up a portable BD Drive, which I can transport around the house and play blu-rays on the computer upstairs etc.

Would anyone be able to provide advice as to which are the best middle range portable options out there? And will these also function with the Xbox 360 via usb?

Thanks :)

what we really know

dimanche 28 décembre 2014

it's a bunch of crap. wait and see...live your life.

What did Millen do different vs QPR?

My question is what did the squad do different with Mullen at the helm. Most of us felt it was a better effort.

Zaha started instead of Campbell but I think that was because of injury. It seemed different guys were going forward, DP you attribute that to Zaha being in there, the manager or just a lesser opponent.

Mullen does have a more positive and encouraging demeanor on the sideline.

If Warnock had a 0-0 draw he would be criticized so I'd like to know what was different vs QPR. Would have been great to get that last second goal.

Please please be Alan Pardew. That would be the icing on the cake

It's going to happen right? It has to happen. I want it to happen :lux:

Whatever Happened to Electric Carving Knives?

I'm all flexed out on the managerial shenanigans. Need to ponder something vital.

Pulls to Newcastle,pardew to palace

The more I think about it,the more I think it could happen. Or is it just wishful thinking.

How long will it take this time.

Apart from getting Hollowhead in the manager situation has always taken an embarrassing amount of time to resolve. Pulis who was clearly the right bloke but didn't join until a month after he was first contacted, it then took ages to decide we didn't want any of them and got Warnock in to try and be a poor mans Pulis.

The timing here is awful as if we take our customary month to get a manager, the transfer window will be closed or like last time almost closed leading to panic moves like the Murray/Doyle/aj fiasco (Pulis, twice the manager Warnock is obviously rated Muzza?) and the left back debacle.

As others have said, let the manager manage. Set a budget, get the best manager willing to work within that and even if that means a trip to the championship then let the manager pick the blokes and play the way they want please!

Rumour: Youth Loans

Not the most exciting news I guess but don't be surprised to see a few Palace players turn up on loan at Cheltenham. Potentially two from: Jake Gray, Boateng, Kai-Kai (depending what happens with Cambridge) and Connor Dymond. Some experience in League Two would be good for all of them.

“I know this group of players and what they’re good at,” he said.

“We have got to go to QPR tomorrow and be up for the fight. That’s what it’s going to be and I am sure QPR will be ready for us.

“We’re going to have be resilient. It’s always good to wins games. We need to for the football team and the club to get us out of the bottom three.

“That’s the priority for all of us.”

HOLMESDALE FANATICS ULTRAS CPFC

6 hrs ·

Warnock Gone & Yesterdays Atmosphere.

It was a hard decision for the HF not to create an atmosphere for yesterdays game V Southampton. For too many games now it has been clear that the Palace support was not happy with having Warnock in charge. Everyone knew our stance on Warnock, including the chairman who we spoke in depth with when he was appointed. We kept to our word and supported the team no matter what throughout his appointment.

However, yesterday we wanted to let everyone know that enough was enough, things were deeply wrong at the club. It was a powerful statement when the group fell silent, along with the rest of the fan base. It was the first time we have stopped supporting the team since the Fulham home game, where Holloway was also sacked the same night.

It was the right thing for the club to sack Warnock. However, it is more important that we don't make the same mistake again and appoint another "Warnock Type" appointment - we need to be looking at the long term, not a quick knee jerk fix of trying to stay up in the Premier League.

Moving forward, we are looking forward to our next league home game (can't afford QPR away) where we will be offering our full support to the Palace team. The connection between the supporters and Palace players is strong and we want to build on that. CPFC - Together As One.

Dominic Fifield: Time is running out for Crystal Palace to make a real leap of faith

Excellent article from our Dom....To view the link you have to Register or Login

The writing had been on the wall long before the first frustrated murmurings of “Warnock out” were issued from those in the Holmesdale end. The Boxing Day grumblings quickly hardened when the team’s most potent attacker was substituted for a full-back with Crystal Palace trailing by three to dip beneath the cut-off.

"Steve Parish, the public face of the board, had made an unexpected appearance at training over Christmas to observe the preparations being put in by Warnock, Ronnie Jepson and Kevin Blackwell for the Southampton fixture. It is safe to assume he was unimpressed with what he witnessed in Beckenham".

Let the manager manage

I really don't care who we get as manager but please can we just give him a budget and let him manage.

Would be nice to go 5 minutes without seeing our chairman on Sky Sports.

Employ someone and just let him do the job. End of.

Horrible news which leaves me cold. :(

Not Chris Coleman !

Plea to CPFC2010

Please do not compound the previous error of appointing Neil Warnock by now going for another Managerial failure with Palace connections in Chris Coleman.

That would see us relegated for sure.

So how long will it take to appoint a new Manager ?

Obviously not a well thought out or pre-planned sacking as Parris said he woke up this morning and thought todays as good a day as any to sack Warnock .

Still no pressure as we are in the relegation spots about to play 2 relegation rivals and the transfer window opens on Thursday :D

When will we appoint someone?

By what game will we appoint a new manager?

Mark Bright on football focus

Did anyone else hear him? I thought he was pretty damming of warnock to be honest and if parish had a chat with him then he would certainly have encouraged him to get rid of Colin. Comments like someone to give the players more confidence, and bring back Murray I think said a lot about his opionion

Live Com and Updates: Warnock Sacked.

:lux::lux::lux:

BBC Sport @BBCSport

Neil Warnock has been sacked as manager of Crystal Palace. More to follow.

Crystal ball v Qpr (a)

Here we go again, hoping for the best:

Qpr 0-1 Palace

Puncheon 14

Att. 17,922

Early goal, then defend for our lives.

Neil Warnock on MOTD

Watching Match of the day last night Colin looked like Ian Holloway after the Fulham game. Colin looked totally deflated and was scathing of his defence which is not going to help him keep the dressing room. It looked like he was done especially as one of his strengths is his fire in the belly lets go get them attitude.

I hope he can lift them for Qpr but not sure he can as his body language was similar to Hollways.

From the horses mouth Glenn Murray

Had the pleasure to bump into Mr Murray a month ago as I've noted in another thread but feels it needs emphasising. I asked him if he was coming back to Palace as a lot were under the impression he was joining Reading on a perm in Jan and he said that was not the case as HE had to agree to it. He said if club wants him he would love to stay. I told him the fans were gutted he had left and that a lot of us were looking forward to seeing him and Gayle together this season after there exciting finish to the last term. He said he had hoped that would happen as it felt like a partnership was developing. I must admit I did express my feelings on the fact he had been replaced with AJ and Doyle in a colourful way !

I have met him on three or four occasions briefly and one things that comes across is that he has a special bond with Palace. I just hope the clown(s) that allowed him to leave will make sure hes made to feel wanted as I cant believe that we will start feb 1st with 4 better strikers than him.

The man scores goals and deserves a run in the top flight and if we did go down he would guarantee 20 goals next season.

Its not sentiment we haven't got better players

The season so far - trying to get some perspective

vendredi 26 décembre 2014

It’s difficult to find a sense of perspective after a game like yesterday’s, but I thought I’d look back to see how we’ve stood up across the full 18 games to date. Here’s my summary:

Arsenal L – conceded a late goal, but probably didn’t deserve the point

West Ham L – abject performance

Newcastle D – scored a late, late equaliser, but a defeat would have been an injustice

Burnley D – couldn’t find a goal, Speroni’s late penalty save got us the draw

Everton W – probably the only game this season we have been a bit lucky with the goals, albeit in a very good performance

Leicester W – a deserved win

Hull L – awful second half cost us

Chelsea L – well beaten, but could it have been different if we had been given the early penalty?

West Brom D – a game we should have won

Sunderland L – pretty even up to 79 mins, but they went on to win it

Man Utd L – not at the races at all

Liverpool W – best performance of the season

Swansea D – we came back to get a deserved point

Aston Villa L – we huffed and puffed but couldn’t find a goal

Spurs D – we were by far the better team and deserved to win

Stoke D – they got a somewhat fortunate equaliser, just huff and puff thereafter

Man City L – played well first half, blown away second half

Southampton L – very poor

I look through that and I count:

4 matches that we got nothing out of and we were never realistically likely to (Arsenal, Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea)

3 really poor performances (West Ham, Hull (second half), Southampton)

4 matches where we got the points we deserved (Newcastle, Leicester, Liverpool, Swansea)

Then

4 homes matches where we weren’t a million miles off – and in which a decent centre forward would have made all the difference – but ultimately only accumulated two points (Burnley, Sunderland, Villa, Stoke)

2 games where we were unlucky to come away with only a draw (West Brom, Spurs)

1 game where we were perhaps a bit lucky to win (or maybe not, I can’t decide) (Everton)

That adds up to 15 points. But I think you could argue that the performances might have been worth more like 16-20 points?

This, of course, doesn’t change the fact that we can all see some quite alarming problems developing all across the pitch. But perhaps it means that it isn’t completely impossible to turn things around?

Atmosphere Cure (guaranteed)

In light of the criticism regarding the atmosphere at todays match I have come up with an idea that, and I hope that you will agree, will once again turn Selhurst into a cauldron of noise and, as an additional added bonus, will also allow the HF some much needed R&R.

I believe that we should expand the current trend, of holding one minutes applause at certain relevant times during a match, to the full 90.

As it's my idea, I shall start -

1. For Jules

2. The exact amount of time I've ever felt relaxed watching Palace.

3. Kenny Sansom. ( get off that bench and get your boots on, we need a left back.)

Please continue ....

Suggestion: Bertrand

Go fight for this player who is precisely the type of left back needed.

Out bid Southampton and offer higher wages. He's available is he not, surely outright purchase trumps loan?

Southampton Game Sold Out Email ...

Loads of empty seats all over the ground today - and yet there was an email saying the game was nearly sold out.

Cant remember seeing so many empty seats previously for much lesser teams - wonder whats going on there?

Should've Stayed in Bed

So aside from that dire performance today I had the following happen to me throughout day.

1. Nightmare getting to the game

2. Wallet stolen from pocket whilst at west Croydon leaving me some £4.35 change and my season ticket

3. Phone died so couldn't meet pals as agreed

4. Walked from Croydon

5. Got harassed by a group of Somalians for a spare cigerette or 5.

6. Had to watch that game sober

7. Had to tell the mrs where my cash stash was to pick me up.

8. Come home and the dogs had the leftover turkey off the side and what they have of it is left scattered on the kitchen floor.

9. Warnock out!

Tottenham.....big club....

Won't hide cause we're doing shite.....first half hour or so we stood off and they played liked Barca....i missed the goal as i was still under the concourse but when i did come up in the so called kop skipped taking my seat and managed to stand at the back so happy days in that respect.....i felt then we woke up and basically battered the Tottenham....they were always dangerous on the break but we more than matched them....but probably luck, bar and post, and that bit of quality done us..........be interesting to hear a [football]...yid take on it....

Fans.....in the away pub,we only have one so they all converge on the pub i use....i drink there on non match days now and then including events so why should i change pubs because some bod designates it an away football fans pub....after a livener at a pub in Clarendon i went Counting House....we left in dribs an drabs ....Tottenham took the pub through numbers....i left 1-20....in the ground Tottenham were shite....when we made it 1-1 not a peep...worst away fans inside so far....my opinion...:D

Press Conference Live: QPR Away

Despite today's very disappointing performance and result, Sunday was always going to be the more important game. We have every shot to get three points against a poor team that will be tired from defending for 90 minutes today at Arsenal.

--------------Hennessey--------------

Mariappa - Dann - Hangeland - Ward

-----------Ledley-------Jedinak-------

Puncheon------McArthur-------Bolasie

---------------Zaha---------------------

Speroni has been relatively poor all season, but since we had been outside the relegation zone, people were afraid of making the switch and affecting team confidence and chemistry. Now is the time to make the switch. Sends the team a message.

Hangeland has been strong the last month and should get his place back.

Striker is the biggest question mark. Chamakh and likely Campbell out injured. Gayle simply is useless in our current system. Doyle? Yikes. I think we should take a shot with Zaha. Obviously we would need to change our tactics to match the player (which we have not done a great job of this season), but Zaha looked bright today when he came on.

Match Updates: Arsenal v Rangers

Rangers are bad.

One nil Arsenal

Leaving early

What I witnessed today was pathetic. I'm sorry but we give it the big one about how great fans we are and how great our atmosphere is and people are leaving in their droves with 20 mins left. Pathetic. Support the f***ing team!! And we mock Brighton. Stones and glass houses comes to mind.

There was no signing, no passion, just moaning and booing from the first minute.

What's happening!?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Southampton Home

We are too open, going to to toe isnt a good idea when the opposition is better than you technically, we need to get men behind the ball and stay compact

Final ball was shocking

Corners were piss poor, either along the floor or straight at the keeper, not a difficult skill, even I could take better corners that our players.

Lack of energy in our play, our combative players like Jedinek and Ledley look 5 yards off the pace, they never get close to their men at all.

I actually we would stay up this season because I thought we would keep more clean sheets than the rest of the teams around us, now im not so sure!

Speroni - Needs to be replaced imo, I think just a change would be good for defensive moral, he's conceded alot of goals and his confidence is low.

Ward - Deserves to be dropped, lets be honest he's been shite all season, yes he's playing left back but he'd a professional fullback and shouldnt be making basic errors.

Delaney- I really cant comprehend what he was doing for their first goal

Dann- Better than Delaney

Marriappa - People were giving him stick but I actually think he did ok, going forward alot better than Kelly

Jedinak- completly off the pace, never got close to their men when in posession, really dissapointed in him, looked dissinterested

Mr Average Joe- Like Jedi completly off the pace, really dont rate him, he plays every game like he's going through the motions, we need some bite in the middle.

McArthur - Not as good as recent games but still the best midfielder at the club

Bolasie- Obviously couldnt be bothered today- piss poor

Puncheon- Getting alot of stick but I thought he looked our most likely scorer, obviously instructed to get some shots off and why not, no-one else will, feel sorry for him as he's a give and go player and no-one else can do that.

Campbell- Thought he looked lively if a bit raw, another forward injured!

Zaha - Changed the game when he came on..

Kelly - Worse crosser in world football, another few beauties today, obviously been working hard on the training ground.

Warnock

Got to get us compact and defensively solid Neil, we looked open from the start.

WORNOCK OUT!

This may of already been posted but after today's performance I think Parish should take this into consideration

Sack or back ?

Can we really afford to ne without a manager for the second transfer window running?

Terrible performance- Forget about it and get 3 points vs QPR

Terrible game. However points vs the #5 team would have been a bonus.

With Hull City winning Palace will likely be bottom 3 at kickoff Sunday. Getting 3 points is even more important. I'm amazed how defeatist everyone is. Even before this swoon people were acting like palace was lucky to be in the premier league.

Half the season is to played with a huge match on Sunday. Let's not wave the white flag yet. The team needs support.

And it looks like gayle will have to start so I can't complain about anything.

Where did all the ribena go?

Can't find any shop selling the little cartons. It's an outrage

The Trews

Thought that these daily You Tube videos from Russell Brand were worth a thread of there own, to spark debate and to discuss the many issues he brings up; and of course as a service to those with an irrational hatred for the man, so they can vent their spleen and decrease their high blood pressure.

In case you've somehow totally missed these short videos; they feature Brand offering his viewpoint on the media: news, politicians, equality gap, 'democracy', etc... He also features interviews on these subjects with activists and other celebs as well as responding to comments from viewers.

Some find him ridiculous, attention seeking, frivolous, insane and hypocritical; others insightful and promoting social consciousness. I find it very interesting the wildly different views towards Brand from the people I know in my sphere. When his name has popped up on these boards, the reaction has reflected that dichotomy also. I'm sure there will be posters questioning why I've even started such a thread.

The Trews has only been running for 10 months but has already amassed nearly 1 million subscribers and has caused quite a bit of a stir, especially on America's Fox News, which actually went out of their way to discredit him on their shows, as did The Sun recently in their publication.

Personally; in a society where the media reports broadly from one angle and mind set, it's very refreshing to have someone actually question this, whether you think it's self serving waffle or not.

Here's the latest 'Trews' (Ep219), where he looks back at the impact his shows have had this last year.

Glaziers

jeudi 25 décembre 2014

May be a re-tread topic...was it a big deal when the nickname was changed? Why was it changed? Felt a need for change in marketing at the time? Glaziers to me is so unique and cool. Maybe at the time it was too blue-collar or something. Why the change?

December stats comparison

Having looked at Speroni's stats in some detail on the Speroni thread I thought it only fair to take a look at the other players in the squad to see how they compare too. It will take a while to do it as thoroughly but I thought it worth opening a thread with some initial comment and then add to it over the coming week or so. To repeat the caveat that stats are numbers, not conclusions and require interpretation and any assumptions arising require validation. Taking one stat in isolation is normally a great way to reach the wrong conclusion. But it's interesting nonetheless.

The Speroni stats showed a marked shortfall vs last season. This seems harsh in the numbers but does reflect the deterioration I had noticed. Comparison with the other Premier keepers and perhaps more to the point his own form last year is not so good. So what about the rest.

Well in terms of overall performance score (averaged out to a per game figure to make a fair comparison) only Jedinak and Bolasie have improved their 'performance' score. This passes the 'what I see test' for me personally. Jedinak has improved, adding goals and flashes of inspired and improved passing even. Bolasie is obviously better too. The rest, not so much. It might be worth pointing out that out of our top 10 ave performance scores this year, only 5 were here both years. 3 of them are new (BH, JM, WZ) and 2 are on loan (SO'K, JW).

Ledley is scoring pretty much the same.

Speroni shows the biggest drop in ave performance (-22.7) but Dann has dropped 17.3, Delaney and Mariappa over 12 and Chamakh over 8 and Gayle 3.

I havent finished looking at that but these are from taking the top 15 (ish) of each year as a starter.

Does this feel 'roughly right' - I think it does. Dann gets a lot of praise on here (rightly so) but he has been involved in more 'slips' than the Villa one.

re the new guys - Hangeland has the best score moving into third position in our team behind Ledley and in front of Williams (cue uproar but it is just 2 games) and McArthur.

Sorry this is a bit rushed but I thought better to dump what I discover as I go. :)

Corruption Kings

mercredi 24 décembre 2014

Those in the highest positions just don't get it, do they?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Spain's new King Felipe VI has attacked corruption across the country in his first Christmas Eve message.

The king refrained however from directly referring to his sister, who is due to stand trial for tax fraud.

Princess Cristina and her husband Inaki Urdangarin are accused of embezzling millions of euros in public funds.

The investigation into Princess Cristina - which began in 2010 - is one of the reasons why her father, Juan Carlos, abdicated in June.

King Felipe said during his speech that public figures did not deserve "to profit or become rich'' because of their office.

Neil Warnock's red and blue army

I would like to see this sung, starting with the game against Southampton.

There have been a lot of opinions for and against Warnock and all are equally valid but I feel that the differences of opinion have resulted in the club losing some of it's unity that we successfully built up since 2010. This unity has contributed heavily to our success.

To those that don't like Warnock I think it's time to accept that he is our manager and we need to give him our full support and backing. As a season ticket holder that attends all home games I don't feel the atmosphere this season has been anywhere near as good and one of the reasons is that not everyone has been in favour of the manager.

The margins between success and failure in sport and very small. The one thing all Palace fans know is the impact we can have on the team's success when we get behind the team and manager. Hearing the manager's name sung will show that the club is united and that we will pull together and show the bottle required to survive relegation.

Obviously not every Palace fan is on the bbs, but it's something that I would like to see happen and I hope people will start to get behind Warnock.

PS I am not Warnock!!!!!! :D

Sami Hyypia GONE, David Burke GONE, Tony Pulis IN

It's going to happen surely? I can feel it in my waters.

Tony Bloom Secret Billionaire

As we all know TB is a gazillionaire with unlimited cash but manages to hide it totally from the power that is the World Wide Web.

Given that in a couple of days it will be the quiet post Christmas let down phase it might be a good time for us to post (non NSC) evidence of his wealth and try to piece it all together once and for all :p

If you look at the entire evidence on the internet then you find;

1. He's made c1m in poker winnings (not bad TBF)

2. He sold Premierbet for 1m

3. St Minver /St Enodoc sold for c30m

4. Tribeca table sold for c50m

Well, even assuming he was the largest shareholder in items 2-4 above (unlikely) thats still only 50-70m ?

Articles state he is involved with Star Lizard which has a net worth of 2.9m

So, I'm struggling to get to the 750m - 1bn that he's got unless he plonked the whole lot on Palace to stay up last season ?

Confused :(

Suggestion: Luuk De Jong

If we are looking to spend 5-7m on an unproven striker in the Prem, why not take a punt on 24 year old Luuk De Jong? I know he didn't score in his brief spell at Newcastle, but not many of them did. He's got 10 in 15 and 3 assists for PSV so far this season and he would have a lot more resale value if it didn't work out compared to Gomis.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

While it may not be Christmas in the UK yet, it's Christmas in Australia and that's all that matters.

Merry Christmas to Everyone!

Neil Warnock doesnt like zaha

Neil really seems to dislike zaha, he's very quick to sub him when he starts bang on 60 or hesitates to bring him on until the last 20 or often has to be reminded that Wilf is on the bench by palace supporters singing his name! Frankly its a total waste of a loan and people seem to think his heart is not in it even though he hasnt been given a run of about 5 games. The stoke game was shocking, none of the back players wanted to pass him the ball literally, at times they preferred to run back in their own halfs with the ball than pass it to zaha. Clearly being told to pass the ball only to Bolasie who could only do so much. Bolasie and Zaha o the wings has proved to work well for us in the past, and zaha in the team creates a lot more chances than Puncheon and has improved his tracking back, i truly believe had he started or come on slightly earlier against man city we would not have lost 3-0. NW has to remember that he is an aggressive attacking player and has to have a vision of winning games not just aiming for a draw. stats show that palace mainly stayed in their half for most of the game, yet man city managed to dribble through and net 3. Wilf came on with 23 mns to go and yet managed to pass the ball to bolasie to set up the disallowed goal and create 2 more chances. Neil Warnock only aim in life is for palace to stay in the premier league before he retires. staying in the prem was our last year objectif and should not be the same objectif every season. we should have higher aims and this man is going to drag us down.

Bizzare phone line problem.

Became aware yesterday that people were ringing our home telephone number and it was ringing and ringing but we could hear nothing at our end.

A little bit of further investigation reveals that not only have we been allocated a new number but we even have a new service provider.

We were with BT but now have a talk-talk number on which we can dial out on (we have checked this by ringing our mobiles and other numbers) but which when we dial it comes back as being out of service. Our BT account is still live so that has not been canceled and our broadband is still working.

Have reported this to BT via their automated fault service who tell us they have found a fault on our line and will deal with it but it is all very strange.

Should we send Wilf back in Jan?

It's obviously not working out with him at Palace and his heart doesn't really seem in it. Should we cut him loose and let him go in January and save some wages on a player with more fight and passion?

Don't get me wrong Wilf has been a saviour for the club, but I just feel he wants to play at a higher level and his heart isn't really in it at the moment.

Greedy former landlord

After a 5 month wait since moving out I have been told my former landlord who not only received over 20k in rent over 1.5 years from me, has now been granted another £350 from my deposit. To say I am fuming is an understatement!

Anyway to cut a long story short, the landlord gave a number of complete bullshit pathetic reasons why they thought they were entitled to a chunk of my deposit. I am convinced its out of pure greed and the property was not left in any worse state than when I moved in aside from general wear and tear.

Been through the DPS dispute service and it seems I am bound by their judgement which feels like it has gone massively in the landlords favour. Any experts around know if there is anything I can do?

Lesson to renters or future renters out there, be careful what you sign and look out for these bastards adding clauses in to catch you out. I paid £200 for end of tenancy clean which apparently wasn't good enough so have had to pay again. That's not the only charge.

On a more light hearted note, any fun ideas how to get back at the former landlord? Nothing illegal or that could get me into trouble of course. I am tempted to slip a note through the door to the new tenants telling them all about their landlord to try to prevent this happening to them.

Meeting between HF and Scudamore regarding ticket prices

We have just posted up this statement;

*TICKET PRICE PROTEST UPDATE*

We are pleased to announce that following on from Saturdays protest at the Premier League HQ a meeting has been put into place between members of the Holmesdale Fanatics and Richard Scudamore, Chief Executive of the Premier League on the 14th January 2015.

We have also had contact from various supporter groups who are keen to work alongside us on a united front should we not get the outcome we want after the initial meeting.

We realise this is only the start of a fight during a potentially long battle with the Premier League, FA and football Chairman but the HF members who will be attending the meeting will make sure our voice is heard on behalf of every supporter that has been priced out of following their club. We are determined to achieve the goal of lowering ticket prices across the country and to make a massive step in giving back the game to its real owners – the supporters.

HF05

If anyone has got anything they think may be useful for the meeting get it posted up here and we'll keep checking this topic.

We won't be just talking about our own clubs ticket pricing (although it needs mentioning) but pricing in general across the country.

Cheers.

Housing Valuations and LTVs

I'm currently in the process of moving house, where we have sold our property and are looking to find our next home. We have taken some equity out of our sale, but with savings are still looking at a mortgage within the 90% - 95% LTV band - therefore limiting our options and increasing the rate.

However, one of the houses we have come across appears to be significantly undervalued - it is within our price range as it stands, and we would be able to do it on a 95% mortgage, so affordability is not the question.

We have viewed the property, and despite needing a fair amount of cosmetic work, it seems as though it is on at the price it is due to the owner's personal circumstances - we suspect a divorce and need to sell. We're guessing it's at least £20k under where it should be priced, based on past prices and comparable examples in the area.

When we are looking at mortgages, obviously they are done on an LTV basis, so my question is this - will the lender take into account the fact that the property is worth more than we would potentially be paying, thus adding £20k or so to the value and lowering our LTV by a reasonable amount (saving us a considerable amount of money in the process), or do they only take the lower of real valuation and purchase price?

Thanks

Festive Period Games

I see in the metro today they are predicting we get 0 points during our 3 x-mas / new year games. What do people predict? I am desperate for us to get 5 so we can get back to 1 point per game average but I think we will get 2 with draws against Southampton and Villa.

4-4-2 against Dover !

With our up and coming match against Dover in the FA Cup coinciding with players leaving and a certain G Murray hopefully coming back I'm suggesting a confidence boosting win.

We should comfortably beat them with,

Speroni

Kelly

Dann

Hangeland

Ward

Puncheon

McArthur

Ledley

Zaha

Gayle

Murray

This should give us the springboard we need to take on the teams around early jan !!

Modern day away support

Is it justified to slate an away support for taking small numbers to an away game in the PL now what with ticket costs, Sky & crap kick off times/days.

This got me thinking after me & some mates were chatting about the 2/300 odd QPR who went to Everton last monday night.

Imo Monday night game up in the north west at Everton, live on Sky just before xmas i think its hard to slate anyone who didnt or couldnt go, saying that they should have taken more than they did.

Wigan bought about 150 to us a few years ago Monday night game live on Sky, £48 a ticket how could we slate their fans? they are the Wimbledon of the north, ex non league club, competing for fans in an area dominated by rugby.

I think its also difficult to praise up the top 4/6 PL clubs for selling out away games even like last night at Stoke, Chelsea sold out, vocally had good support but numbers wise we should be selling out, if a club cant sell out when their top of the PL then something would be wrong.

Its like my mate said the thing with QPR at Everton is if they were top of the league all their fans would no doubt find the money & time to go so that cant just be an excuse, facts are they hadnt won away all season which more than likely played a part in their small turn out.

Thoughts?

Parish said: "We are looking to bring in one or two targets but you have got to find a club willing to sell.

"Not every player is available. I know fans think every player is available - but they are not.

"There are a couple of areas we are looking to strengthen. But we are now at a point where we have got a good squad and we have got to bring in people that are definitely, definitely, definitely going to complement us.

"Anyone we bring in can't be also-rans. It is going to be difficult trying to buy quality that is worthy of the squad we've got. That isn't that easy."

Suggested Team and Formation For: Southampton Home

Few changes for me

Delaney in for Hangeland

Need to go back to basics and start churning out clean sheet after clean sheet, Brede hasnt done alot wrong but I think Dann and Delaney will keep more clean sheets, I dont think its any coincidence than Dann has lost form while playing with Hangeland, he just doesnt look as settled, I think Dann and Delaney just seem to have a better understanding.

Mariappa in for Kelly

Im going back to last seasons back 4, one of the best defences in the country, Kelly imo is no improvement over Marriappa so I see no reason to keep him in the side, plus I think him and Puncheon have a half decent understanding.

..........................Speroni

Mariappa.....Dann......Delaney......Ward

................Jedinak.........Ledley

.........................McArthur

...Puncheon.........................Bolasie

........................Campbell

If we are losing than easy change of Puncheon going central, Zaha on the right and Gayle upfront.

3-4-3 Formation PLEASE!

I think we should consider changing our formation a little & 3-4-3

would IMO be a good fit for the players we have. It would give us a bit more

field position up top, without making us totally open at the back.

The team would look a bit like this.

speroni

Kelly Hangeland Dann

Ward Jedi Ledley/JMac Punch/ledley

Zaha Campbell/New CF Bolasie

When the Asia/ Afcon is on we can bring Jmac in for Jedi

and play punch higher in place on Yala. Thoughts?

Suggestion: Paul McShane

Sounds as though he's fallen out with fatty Bruce at Hull. Might be able to pick him up on the cheap? Was solid enough when he was last here and could provide good cover for CB.

16th May 2015 Liverpool's Revenge

2nd last match of the season, lets make sure that we are well clear of the bottom three when this match is played,

Otherwise Liverpool could get the last laugh over us (and our tears will fall instead of Louis Suarez) ,by pushing us into relegation and the Championship.

Happy Xmas and a successful new year to the Eagles

Cat advice please

I am turning to the good people of the BBS for advice. I moved house three days ago. When leaving we tried to place cat into basket but she went crazy and legged it. I have been returning to old property and current owners are supportive. Fearing the worst since, I found her behind shed on property backing onto my old garden earlier this afternoon. She is struggling to recognise me and looks frightened and hungry.

In a nutshell, I want to know how best to capture her and place her in my car. I tried enticing her out with food but she won't come.

Any advice (sensible) great fully received.

Thanks in advance.

Rumour: Palace bid £2.5 million for Pape Souare

Crystal Palace have made a £2.5million offer for Lille left-back Pape Souare.

Manager Neil Warnock has made the move as the 23-year-old Senegal international falls into Palace's budget, although Lille want £3m.

Palace have asked about Neil Taylor at Swansea, Morocco left-back Achraf Lazaar of Palermo and discussed an ambitious move for Roma's Ashley Cole but have settled on Souare as he will snub joining up with Senegal for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Pair of specs found on the 17.15

Someone left a pair of glasses on my table in coach E on the 17.15 to Euston yesterday. Given the convivial and noisy atmosphere with almost the entire coach Palace - I suspect someone may have woken up today with a hangover but without their glasses! Great trip home!

If it's you - PM me and I will arrange to return!

Suggestion: Re sign Chris Martin?

Doing well this season at Derby, scored a few last time he was here?

Suggestion: Townsend

Heard that Andros Townsend is available on loan from a friend that supports Spurs. I think he would be a quality addition. Is that a good idea or not?

Lacking a goalscoring striker is not the problem

Only one side in the bottom half has scored more goals than Palace (QPR, by one). We've scored as many as Liverpool to score 9 more goals than last season.

Only two sides have conceded more than Palace (QPR and Leicester). We're on course to concede 12 more goals than last season.

Is it really a striker that we need?

The difference a striker makes

I think we're all agreed on the need for a striker but I've just watched QPR on MOTD. 0-2 down and nothing to write home about, they ended up winning 3-2, the difference being Charlie Austin who scored a hat trick. It seems that when he scores QPR pick up points. Benteke does a similar job for for Villa.

So who do we buy in January? Personally I think we should spend whatever Blackburn ask for Jordan Rhodes. Yes, he's not proven in the Premier League, but is a goal scorer and bagged 2 yesterday. A natural goal scorer will score in any league given service (Ted McDougal anyone?) and we have the players to provide decent service.

I've seen European strikers mentioned but have we got time for them to adapt? I don't think so.

We've been playing well recently and lack of goals is costing us dear so I think we need to gamble to preserve our Premier League status.

Suggestion: What about this dude !!!!

Did no one else see the stone wall penalty in first half?.

samedi 20 décembre 2014

From a dead ball situation corner I think and it might've been tied in with Jedi's header but Campbell was being held so tightly he literally couldn't move at all. Now there's always pushing and shoving in the box that's part and parcel of the game but this was basically a proper bear hug giving Campbell no chance of fairly going for the ball . Penalty all day long :(.

HF ticket price protest at Premier League HQ

In response to being priced out of yet another away game, members of the HF marched to The Premier League HQ in the heart of London today to protest against the absurd ticket prices football fans across all divisions face when following thier team. In addition to this a letter was handed over addressed to Richard Scudamore, the Chief Executive of the Premier League, the contents of which can be read below outlining our disillusion and anger with the current state of affairs. Now is the time to reclaim our beloved game and make it impossible for the media, FA, Chairman and the Premier league to keep on ignoring fans on this issue.

Dear Richard,*

Today’s protest was a direct result of the anger and frustration felt by football fans across the country, a feeling that has been growing over the past few seasons as a consequence of the continuously alienating ticket prices that permeate this league. For too long now the cost of following your football team has been on the increase whilst at the same time the atmosphere that once made our stadiums famous across the world has all but vanished, the soul removed from the sport and the working man driven away from his own game.*

Today we wanted to be following our club away at Manchester City, however yet again we have been denied this privilege due to the cost, a situation well known by fans of many teams who weekly have to deal with the disproportionate prices involved in following their club.*

The creation of the Premier League and subsequent international marketing of its brand, along with the billions of pounds poured into the game via pay per view TV, has led to the pricing out of the working class and the move towards a corporate, money driven game all but complete. Tickets for our match today were equivalent to a day’s pay on the minimum wage, in what world can a man spend a full days wages on a match ticket alone whilst still having travel, food and beers to pay for on top? Football without fans is nothing and those who give the most to support their teams are being pushed away from the clubs that have been handed down to them from father to son, generation to generation.*

We regret having to mask our faces today, but in city of unprecedented CCTV coverage, a government overseeing an era of restrictions on protest without prior notification, a police force that have run amok with Football Banning Orders all backed up by a court system that can hand them out without criminal conviction, you can excuse our paranoia.*

There have already been supporter-led actions against ticketing prices both inside and out of stadiums across the country and newfound sense of unity amongst fans who are willing to come together in order to stand against that which is preventing them from following their team. This action represents the first from our group outside the stadium and the continuation of the mobilisation other supporter groups up and down the country to take direct action on behalf of all priced-out supporters that will no longer be ignored.

This is a rallying call to football fans of all clubs, ticket prices have gone beyond crisis point, the loyalty that has been shown by us to our clubs has been spat back in our face. The knowledge that we will follow our team throughout the good and bad used against us and we are being driven away from our stadiums by those who govern our sport. Enough is enough and now is the time to act.

If you would like to arrange a meeting to discuss ways of ending the exploitation of supporters please contact us on holmesdalefanatics@hotmail.com
