Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 3* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 7 or more, then a 4th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Better known as the original "Shaft". Died last week at the age of 81.

One of the earlier "X" rated movies we snuck into (I would have been 15 or 16 at the time).

Loved the character, and the music from the movie... got the album somewhere.

Anyone here use a CPAP machine at night?

My wife was recently diagnosed as having sleep apnea after doing a sleep study. She has been given a CPAP machine to use at night, and it’s all a bit overwhelming for her at the moment.

To be honest, rather her than me! I’m not sure I could handle it. Talking to friends, family and ex-coworkers I have been surprised how many people use them… I guess it’s one of those things that people rarely admit to having to use.

I would love to know if anyone using one has any advise or words of encouragement like it’s second nature now, befits outweigh the hassle (improved sleep and well-being) etc., or did they try one and give up on it. At this time a week in of using one, my wife feels it is a life changing, for the worse, and is not a happy camper…

Player Ratings And Reviews: v Spurs (home)

vendredi 27 octobre 2023

If we played with the same energy intensity at the back we we do upfront we’d be ok. Guehi, Andersen & Doucoure try to win the ball back asap.
Parish can be held accountable for games like tonight. He chose to bring back Hodgson after he bailed us out last season. Hodgson is known to just do shape all week, it’s awful to watch. Not inspiring at all, doesn’t get you out your seat. Spurs took the piss second half, allowing the keeper and centre halves to just have the ball, pathetic to watch. I’m looking forward to the season ending already and it’s not even November. I’m sure Parish is delighted with the appointment, as a fan base that pay money to enjoy going to Selhurst, we shouldn’t be happy with the appointment.

Johnstone distributed well but didn’t have much to do
Ward, same every week, just not good enough and that’s the clubs fault as he should’ve been replaced but we’re a charity not an ambitious club
Guehi & Andersen try to take on the creative roles themselves while also defending
Mitchell still getting caught out, poor going forward, gets done on the wing as he’s on the wrong side of the player
Lerma has been poor other than his first game, gives the ball away far too much
Doucoure always makes up for his midfielder partner
Hughes actually tried to make things happen, would always rather see him play than Lerma
Schlupp just adds nothing to the side when he starts. Much better from the bench
Ayew actually scored
Eduoard wow!!!! He wouldn’t anticipate a train moving at him from 100 metres away
Franca didn’t look good

Self-Service Beer Dispensers Trial

Interesting: To view the link you have to Register or Login

Selhurst Park is set to trial self-service drinks dispensers for Crystal Palace’s next three home matches, while an Early Bird Brooklyn Pilsner offer will also be running during Friday’s game against Tottenham.

The self-service kiosks, produced by EBar, will be available for supporters to trial in both the external Fanzone and inside Entrance 3 in the north-east corner of the ground, next to the Holmesdale Road stand.

The kiosks will pour San Miguel in the Fanzone, and both San Miguel and Guinness in the Holmesdale Road end, all dispensed direct from kegs using pressure-pour technology.

To operate the kiosks, fans will first be required to show their ID to prove they are over 18.

They will then:
  1. Select the quantity of drinks desired;
  2. Pay for them via contactless card;
  3. Place eco-plastic cups beneath the dispensers;
  4. Watch either one or two beers be poured – a process designed to take less than 30 seconds.
  5. Each dispenser is equipped with two nozzles to maximise service speed.

The kiosks are designed to reduce wait times for drinks and improve overall supporter experience, and have previously been trialled at other Premier League stadia and top-level cricket, horse racing and rugby matches.

The results of the trial will be used to shape ongoing improvements to supporters’ matchday experience.

You all know the drill. Please provide scoreline, scorers and the attendance for this Friday's clash at home to North London Lilywhites.

Palace v Monaco

All eyes were probably on Franca and maybe we expected too much after all the hype. He looked OK but not outstanding. Played wide left. Got his goal from a near post flick in a crowded penalty area. Only played the first half so guess he is in line for the bench on Friday. To be fair Ebiowei looked more eye catching on the right wing in the first half and scored a great goal.

Good points to take away:

Matthew's looked OK and made the saves expected and apart from a wierd slice in the second half showed good distribution. It's not really the panic situation some have implied if he has to stand in for Sam.

Ferguson got through the game OK, but early days.

It's just my opinion, but of all the players Ozoh looked to be the player closest to knocking on the first team door. He looks a power house in mid field, won the ball consistently and was impossible to knock off in possession. Carried and used the ball well.

Happy birthday Les.

mardi 24 octobre 2023

Have a great day Les Butler. 65 years young and looking fine. Also Il Padrino has a birthday today.

Have a good day lads.

CPFC 70's fans...

I saw the great Bobby Charlton just once.... at a testimonial game at Selhurst Park. I think it was in 1973. Does anyone have any memories or knowledge of that game? I have a feeling Bobby Moore also played, but I'm certain Charlton played. I was just a kid, and I was down at the Holmesdale end by the goal, when he hit the ball with such ferocity it whistled past the post and almost took my head off!!!

Music notes

Why did they name the note C and not A ? I get all the sharp stuff and read explanations of why the start with the Note C, but why didn’t they call that note A and it would all be a lot easier?

Ben Garner

Any thoughts on him coming back as U21's Manager?

I have not seen or heard anything before anyone asks, but given his history with the club - specifically the Academy. Coupled now with his first team experience as a Manager I am wondering if it would be a shout.

Trust Meeting with the club.

The last trust meeting with the club was held on 10th October .The minutes are on the trust website

Suggested Team and Formation For: Newcastle (a)

mardi 17 octobre 2023

Hopefully we get a few returning players from injury. Especially in midfield.

It sounded like Doucoure was touch and go in his last game, he didn’t play for Mali in the break despite being selected for the squad, but hopefully that’s just precautionary. So hopefully he is back for us.

Henderson, Eze and Olise are definitely out. Ward is most likely still out if it was a groin strain.

Then it’s whether we have the likes of Schlupp, Lerma, Franca, Jairo and Ahamada make it back.

If we can reduce our injury list from 10 to 4, then the international break will have been a blessing for us.

I don’t think Roy’s ever selecting this side but injuries permitting I’d go:

Johnstone
Richards - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Doucoure - Lerma - Hughes
Ayew - Mateta - Edouard

Matthews, Clyne, Holding, Tomkins, Riedewald, Schlupp, Ahamada, Rak-Sakyi, Franca

I don’t think Richards is going to be selected by Roy at right back, but I was disappointed with Clyne’s showing against Forest when you stack it up to what Ward normally offers us. I think Richards can probably offer us more of what Ward usually brings. I think a solid midfield 3 will be needed against Newcastle who are so strong in midfield when they have runners going forward. So... Tonali seems to be headed for a lengthy betting ban, italian media saying the ban could be up to three years (take the under on that one) but somehow he's being allowed to play this weekend?

And, surprise, Eddie Howe the #$@k is of course gonna play him with no hesitation

Loan: Yann M’Vila - Suggestion

Available on a free. Could be a good on a short term contract until the end of the season to cover the Afcon absentees and any injuries. Got a world of experience and has played over here before.

Live music London and South East

Any suggestions for pubs, bars etc that have live music? Of course I know all the big venues but I'm really just looking for some where to rock up to on the weekend and see some random live band.

ALSO

Any suggestions for dancing/clubbing for older people? like 30 - 50 crowd.

Pubs and Parking Tips for: Newcastle

Only ever trained or flown to Newcastle. Decided to drive this year after all.

Anyone have any parking tips? Is the Metrocentre Gateshead Park & Ride to be recommended?

Suggestion: Jordan James

dimanche 15 octobre 2023

19 years old, over 60 games for Birmingham so far in CM/CDM. Stong but also very technically gifted and loves a first time pass. Has just absolutely dominated midfield against Modric, Kovacic and Brozovic for Wales. Very impressive young player - hope he's on the club's radar

Song Lyrics

samedi 14 octobre 2023

There are some lyrics that you have to work out thair meaning, (even if only to figure out they don't have a meaning at all), but foreign language lyrics can be particularly baffling if you don't speak the language.

Ca plane pour moi is frequently on the telly in the Kellogs ad and I remember it when it came out in the 70s but never had a clue what Plastique Bertrand was going on about. I decided to look for a translation and it's a little clearer now! :D

"Wham! Bam! My cat, Splash
Is rolling around on my bed
He swallowed his tongue as he drank all my whisky
As for me, I've hardly slept, I feel empty and reprimanded
I had to sleep in the gutter
Where I had a flash of inspiration
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
In four colours
[Verse 2]
OK, let's go! One morning
A babe came round to my house
She looked like a cellophane doll with curly hair
She was wearing a plaster and had a hangover
She drank my beer in a large rubber glass
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Like an Indian in their igloo
[Chorus]
It's all working out for me, it's all working out for me
It's all working out for me, me, me, me, me
It's all working out for me
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
It's all working out for me
[Verse 3]
OK, let's go! That babe was such a bitch
What a vibration!
Coming on the doormat
Filed down, ruined, empty, but happy
"You are the King of the Divan!"
She says to me in passing
I am the King of the Divan
[Chorus]
It's all working out for me, it's all working out for me
It's all working out for me, me, me, me, me
It's all working out for me
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
It's all working out for me
[Verse 4]
OK, let's go! Mind your own, keep your nose out
Don't harm my planet
Today's not the day the sky will fall down around my ears
Or that I will have to go without a drink
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
It's all working out for me
[Verse 4]
OK, let's go! my baby upped and left
She walked out on me, it's a shitty situation
She broke everything, the sink, the bar
And she left me all alone
Like a total jerk
Stuck here faced with the aftermath
[Chorus]
It's all working out for me, it's all working out for me
It's all working out for me, me, me, me, me
It's all working out for me
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
It's all working out for me
It's all working out for me, it's all working out for me
It's all working out for me, me, me, me, me
It's all working out for me"

Life after Guehi & Andersen

vendredi 13 octobre 2023

I don't usually start threads, but with Andersen making noises about leaving for Champions League football and Guehi, well, just being that bloody good, I am finding myself concerned about life without them. It is surely inevitable that both leave us shortly, no?

For me, these two have been the reason for our solid start to the season in very difficult circumstances. At Old Trafford these two put in one of the best (if not the best) CB performances I had the pleasure of seeing live. The thought of life without them sends a shiver down my spine and given the well publicised struggle (for whatever reason) to strengthen key areas over a number of years, I worry about the 'R' word next season.

Am I being over the top, or do others share the same concerns? I rate Richards, but cannot put him anywhere near the other two.

Thoughts?

Palace collection looking for a new home

I am currently clearing out my dad's flat, and have a collection of programmes and other things that I would like to pass on to someone who would appreciate them.
There are approximately 150 home and away programmes, mainly from the 70s/80s/90s, all in really good condition. Including cup finals, play offs etc. There are also some annuals and other stuff (including a signed Vince Hilaire photo!)
They are currently located in North Devon, so unless there is a random Devon Eagle, they would need to be posted.
Not looking for payment, just want them to go to someone who would appreciate them. Let me know if you're interested.

Bing Co-pilot (beta) CPFC Poem

mercredi 11 octobre 2023

Thought i'd question if for a laugh.

go on then write me a poem about how good cpfc and their players are

Generating answers for you…

Generating answers for you…

OK, I will try to write you a poem about how good Crystal Palace and their players are. Here is what I came up with:

Crystal Palace, the Eagles of the south
You fly high with pride and clout
You play with passion, skill and flair
You make your fans cheer and swear

Your colours are red and blue, like fire and ice
Your crest is a phoenix, rising from the ashes
Your stadium is Selhurst Park, a fortress of noise
Your anthem is Glad All Over, a song of joy

Your manager is Roy Hodgson, a legend of the game
He has led you to safety and stability
He has given you an identity and a name
He has shown you respect and humility

Your players are a mix of youth and experience
You have stars like Zaha, Eze and Guéhi
You have leaders like Milivojevic, Cahill and Ward
You have fighters like Benteke, McArthur and Ayew

You have a history of ups and downs, glory and pain
You have reached the FA Cup final twice, but lost both times
You have been relegated and promoted several times, but never gave up
You have been in the Premier League since 2013, the longest ever run

You have a bright future ahead, with ambition and vision
You have a new owner, who wants to invest and improve
You have a new academy, to nurture your own talent
You have a loyal fan base, who will always support you

Crystal Palace, the Eagles of the south
You are more than a club, you are a family
You are not afraid of anyone, you are brave and bold
You are Crystal Palace, you are glad all over.

Players aside :D I'm pretty impressed - it's a solid 8/10 from me!

p.s. why isn't there a pre-fix for Bing-generated, Palace Poems? Hmm? :)

Richards, USA v Ayew, Ghana

It is possible that Chris Richards and Jordan Ayew will play against each other in the scheduled friendly between USA and Ghana in Nashville, USA on Wednesday 18th October.

Not an uncommon occurrence I suppose, but I can't remember the last time Palace players played against each other in an international.

Would you buy a clocked car?

Went to see a second car at the weekend and said I would buy it. But having done a check it has come back as clocked. Mileage is pretty much double what it displays.

Everything else about it is exactly what I want - make, model, age, spec, colour. It's recently passed its MOT.

Obviously if I go for it I will reduce the price and will have to try to get the mileage corrected.

What other implications are there? Insurance, selling it on in the future...???

Palace Participants Wanted!

Hi there,

My name is Jessica Wylie and I am a student at the University of Birmingham. I'm currently in my third year of University and I have been a Palace fan my whole life!

Since it is my third year, I am working on my dissertation at the moment, where I am looking at women's experience of watching men's football. Therefore I am looking for female football fans (18+) who would like to talk about their experiences of attending men's professional football matches.

If any female football fans would be interested in this study, I would love to hear from you! The study would only be an hours conversation online via Teams or zoom.

If you have any questions or would like to participate or know any other women who would, I would really appreciate it!

Please contact me through email (jxw1403@student.bham.ac.uk)

Many thanks
Jess Wylie

Our home kit is Yuck and not Palace!

With it being Vince's birthday today this video always pops up.
If our Owners have to keep changing the kit every year to sell move shirts then instead of the Non Palace horrendous half and half shiter that we have this year, why can we not have this as a home kit?
A thing of beauty and history !

Palace V Everton 11/11/23

lundi 9 octobre 2023

Hi all Palace fans :)

Everton fan here. Live in the Channel Islands so flying to London is much easier than Liverpool.

My fiance is looking into taking me to a match and Everton away tickets, especially in London are not easy to come by.

We are looking at maybe doing a hospitality package, how are you when it comes to welcoming (or not) away fans?

Any advice for getting tickets/hospitality, also where to stay. We would be flying in and out of Gatwick and my fiance really would like to visit London Zoo :D

Hope you are all enjoying the week :)

Thanks in advance!

Consumer Rights Question - Motor Industry

Hi Folks

Looking for some advice please! I purchased a brand new vehicle from a dealer which has a rather fundamental issue with it...namely it's a campervan that leaks significantly from the roof and in to the living area in the rain. It's a known issue on this specific model and before I collected my van the dealer assured me over email that mine would be tested 'thoroughly' prior to collection.

It became apparent after my 30 day automatic return period given under the Consumer Rights act that it does in fact leak in the rain. Under the CRA I have to give them an opportunity to resolve the issue before I can reject the good as I've owned it for longer than 30 days, my question is does them stating in writing that they'd test it thoroughly prior to collection change my rights in any way? It's pretty apparent it was not tested thoroughly as described. I am sick of the whole saga so would just prefer to get rid at this point.

Thanks.

Hard Shell or Soft Shell Carry-On Suitcase?

jeudi 5 octobre 2023

And the award for the most boring thread of 2023 goes to….

I’m in the market for a new small carry-on sized suitcase as the zip on my trusty old soft shell is buggered. Seems all the rage these days is for these newfangled hard shell cases.

Thing I like about the soft shell is the additional little pockets on the outside that give you quick and easy access to wherever you are. Seems to me that to access inside your hard shell is a bit of a palaver.

Having said that, if on a plane I usually also have a backpack for all the odds and ends I need access to, so it might not be as bigger problem as I’m thinking.

Most trips requiring a small suitcase these days are by car, so again I’m torn.

I see there are brands of hard shell cases that do have exterior compartments, but at best you could put documents or a small laptop/tablet in. I suspect even glasses/sun glasses might get crushed in these pockets.

What say you BBS?

Palace 1983/84 videos needed

Apologies to MODS; i know this should live in Memory Lane, but just putting this out on here as I know more posters view GPD than there.

Some may have seen already, but I've been editing together YouTube Palace season review videos from 1969/70 season, using all the footage i've been able to unearth online, and had in my collection too. To view the link you have to Register or Login

So far, i've got up to 1983/84. Now this particular season, I know every home game was videoed and sold/rented in the club shop for some reason.

So far I have the following goals:

27/08/83 H. Man C 0-2
26/11/83 H. Sheff W 1-0
21/01/84 H. Newcastle 3-1
28/01/84 H. West Ham 1-1 (FAC)
31/01/84 A. West Ham 0-2 (FAC)
25/02/84 H. Grimsby 0-1
07/04/84 A. Derby 0-3
28/04/84 A. Sheff W 0-1
12/05/84 H. Blackburn 0-2

Have had a few hopeful contacts but so far, no more games have surfaced.

If anyone has, or knows anyone that may have, those dusty old videos (or digital copies) from 83/84 still in their attic; i would love to use them to complete these YouTube reviews.

Obviously, digital copies sent would be great, but if not, i am more than happy to pay for postage both ways, to receive them, digitise and of course send them back straight away.

If anyone has any info then please PM me.

many thanks,
Bubbs

Selling season tickets - where’s the best place

Please can someone point me in the right direction for selling my 2 season tickets for games I can’t attend? I know the box office do a buy back option but this is only when games are sold out. I also, wouldn’t want my ST’s get in to the wrong hands.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Is Everton sold out? Can't see any availability online

Tickets for Everton are meant to have gone on sale to Members and ST holders a few days ago.

Whenever I look on the ticket page it doesn't show any availability whatsoever. Has it completely sold out already or is the system not working properly?

Could we get more out of Andersen if he didn’t play in a conventional back 4?

Here’s another “crazy and mad” thread. Want to keep the few fans I have left happy. Anyway, I’ve been open that Joa Andersen has been my POTY for the past 2 seasons, since he arrived in fact. Guehi is the better defender because he has the mobility to get there, which also helps him defend better in one-vs-ones. And he is younger. But I am in no doubt that Andersen is the better all round player because he is a cultured footballer. His technique on the long passing is incredible and helped set up far more attacks than we’ve ever managed to do playing through midfield. But that technique is not limited to passing, he can cross well and he is as pure a striker of a ball as we’ve seen from a centre back since Coleman imho.

I am not saying he should play up front. But he should be freed of the shackles to mark in a conventional back 4, something that doesn’t suit him in any case. He should be put on the ball as much as possible, and allowed to roam forward more, like a traditional sweeper. I don’t see him as a DM because he lacks the ability on the half turn, and the mobility you need for the position imho. But I think we could get more out of him if he had freedom to express himself further up the pitch. I’m not saying we even need to play a back 5 - it could simply be the case that we play a back 3 when he is allowed to move forward. I’d be interested to hear people’s constructive thoughts about how we could get more out of him. Because he is a serious footballer. He is a leader and in terms of technical ability for a centre back he must be verging on world class I reckon in terms of that facet to his game.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Nottingham Forest (H) 7/10/23

Can’t see Roy changing it after a 1-0 win away at Old Trafford. But let’s play the game anyway:

Johnstone
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Ayew - Doucoure - Hughes - Eze
Mateta - Edouard

Matthews, Clyne, Richards, Holding, Riedewald, Ozoh, Schlupp, Rak-Sakyi, Ebiowei

Forest have mainly played 3/5 at the back and I’ve always thought 4-4-2 plays well against that formation.

Assuming that Edouard is the only returnee, due to the nature of Roy’s language when discussing Edouard before the the Man Utd game. Hopefully we can get Lerma back too, and then get mostly everyone back after the international break against Newcastle!
