Apologies if this is posted elsewhere but Martin Lewis the Money saving Expert has this to say about the so-called rebate:
Everyone will get a £200 rebate on their bills in Oct whether they want it or not.
Everyone will then have to pay it back at £40 a year from April 23 for five years whether they want to or not.
This raises possible scenarios such as:
You buy a house from someone who has received the £200 rebate and then have to pay it back yourself because the bill is on that property.
A landlord receives a £200 rebate on their energy bill and the tenants are asked to pay the £200 back when the landlord switches bill paying to them.
Students paying bills on a house get a rebate on their bill one year and then the students moving into the house get to pay it back for five years.
Seems like a good idea to me.
