Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

“Your punishment is you can’t play your national anthem or at home”

For real this time. What's with all the Draws?!?

Palace already has more draws this season than they've had in any other season since promotion.

2013/14 6 (15.79%)
2014/15 9 (23.68%)
2015/16 9 (23.68%)
2016/17 5 (13.16%)
2017/18 11 (28.95%)
2018/19 7 (18.42%)
2019/20 10 (26.32%)
2020/21 8 (21.05%)
2021/22 12 (44.44%) with 11 matches to play

44.44% of matches is a shit-ton. They more than double their usual percentage of draws. The closest they've been to that number since at least 2001/02 is the 36.96% you get with 17 draws in the Championship they managed 4 times.

I was going to argue that there is more parity in the mid-table this season but that might not the case, it's just Palace.

Premier League Draws By Season

2013/14 78 (20.53%)
2014/15 93 (24.47%)
2015/16 107 (28.16%)
2016/17 84 (22.11%)
2017/18 99 (26.05%)
2018/19 71 (18.68%)
2019/20 92 (24.21%)
2020/21 83 (21.84%)
2021/22 67 (26.17%) with 124 games (just under 1/3) left to play.

While this year's numbers are a bit higher than average, if you put palace back at "normal" for this time of season (about 6 draws), that drops the league average back down to 23.83% which is closer to what it usually is.

TLDR: Palace has about 6 more draws so far this season than they should. Many would argue 4 of those should be wins (Brighton, Arsenal, Brentford(H), Norwich) and maybe 2 losses (West Ham, Leicester). That's a six point difference.

Now the question is why. I don't know.

Stand your ground and fight?

No doubt everyone admires the heroism currently being displayed by the Ukrainian troops and especially the Ukrainian civilian population.

As someone who's father participated in the last war, it got me thinking about if we ever were in that situation, would we do the same and where would that stand be made?

Irrespective of politicians, what is our thoughts as to where we should get personally involved, be it as a nation and as independent individuals-where do we perceive it to be where our homes, livelihoods, children, our democracy is threatened?

Is it?
A. If Russia steps into a nato border country like Poland?
B. If he advances further somewhere like Germany, a major ally forcewise?
C. If Western Europe is lost ie May 1940 repeat
D. When invasion is threatened, our airspace invaded, or our shores attacked?

Elden Ring

97/100 on Metacritic. Getting rave-reviews. In fact, it’s one of the highest rated games of all time on some platforms.

Didn't particularly enjoy the Demon Souls remake, so i'm reluctant to dump another £60 on a game from the same "universe".

Anyone picked it up?

Arfur advertising ?

Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere but what has happened to the Advertising on the roof of Arfur ?

Sitting in the Whitehorse on Saturday i noticed it was void of anything, save for old paint jobs in the various previous sponsors colours.

Not sure if storm whichever-one-it-was, was responsible or whether we're in the process of gaining an alternate sponsor or even reverting to the good old red & blue stripes but it looked a right mess.

Just interested as to what's occurring ?

Suggestion: Isaiah Jones

Middlesbrough right back. 22. Ex non league with Tooting. Looks brilliant on tele against West Brom tonight, Middlesbrough fans think he is better than Spence who is on loan at Forest.

Going to need a right back in the summer, I’m sure Dougie will have his eye on this kid.

Bury FC

Bury FC fan here - 1st posting, hope my attachment is legible (picture of Palace fans offering support Aug 2019)

A combination of 2 dubious owners and a not fit for purpose EFL destroyed Bury FC and our football community in existence since 1885

A big thank you to all the Palace supporters who gave us support during and after our expulsion from the Football League back in Aug 2019

At the time of expulsion I had attended 85 of the then 92 grounds, with no club left to support I decided to visit the remaining 7. Managed to get up to 90 when the covid restrictions kicked in

On Saturday v Burnley I will be travelling down to Selhurst (Number 91 of the 92)

Any suggestions on where to have a beer in friendly pub before the game?

Thanks in advance

Whitehorse Lane Stand /Family Stand

Hi all,

Have finally bought my first tickets to a Palace game in donkey's years after returning to the area. However, I could only get tickets in the Whitehorse Lane Stand. There were loads of seats free in that area compared to the other stands. I know it's a bit smaller than the others and the boxes are that end, but is there any reason this stand in particular is looked down on/nowhere near as popular as the others?

I'm going to the game against Stoke on Tuesday - so hoping I haven't snagged the worst seats in the house!

The Football Metaverse

I couldn't see a thread on this but came across the news that Manchester City and Sony "building" a virtual Ethiad Stadium which in the future will allow fans from all over the world to watch their matches. Whether than pans out or not with TV rights etc... I don't know but that seems to be the end goal.

But with technology becoming a bigger part of the game I guess something like this was inevitable as a way of getting more money into clubs pockets.

FA Cup final dilemma

lundi 21 février 2022

I know we are still an awful long way from reaching the Cup final, and am not in the slightest counting any chickens or anything (and am fully aware of how many good teams remain in the competition) but...

Myself and some friends have been discussing heading away for a long Weekend somewhere in Europe (most likely Italy). I'd been lobbying for late summer, but the weekend of May 14 was the favoured date. I agreed, before I realised it was the weekend of the final.

It seems madness to be baulking at booking flights or anything else at this stage of Palace's run, but then again, beat Stoke and we'd only be two games from the final...

I'm not massively flush with disposable income at the moment, so don't know whether to book now and then try to reclaim should we make the final, or hold off and book at a later, no doubt more expensive date when it's confirmed we haven't reached the final (should that occur). This latter option has the problem of messing with potential accommodation booking for the others. I don't even know how easy or otherwise it would be to claim a refund for flights, accommodation etc when it's not Covid-related (and there's some discussion of getting a couple of trains on the way out, which would presumably be even harder to claim back than a flight)?

Of course many people, especially those who might not get sport, would say just go on the trip and watch the final wherever you are, but come on: this is Palace and a potential FA Cup final we're talking about, which is clearly a very rare thing for our club (it will be a great trip that I really want to go on, but equally it's not a once in a lifetime holiday or anything like that). I simply couldn't comprehend not being at Wembley should we make it - especially in a circumstance like this, where nothing is currently booked; it's not like a long-standing engagement or a family wedding or anything is on that date.

So what would you do. Book? Hold off? Other?

Trust meeting with the club - 17/2/2022

Once again the Trust have highlighted a raft of issues with the club, a significant percentage of which relate to the quite unbelievable level of service from the Box Office this season

Minutes can be read at:

You can draw your own conclusions and discussion from them. Personally it comes across to me that the various criticisms by the fans seem to take the club by surprise!! It's like they think things are pretty much hunky dory!

(Never did receive my Millwall tickets in the post by the way!)

UK is sliding towards authoritarianism

There's a couple of threads about the policing bill but none I can see bringing the various strands of deeply concerning creeping UK authoritarianism together.

1. Government putting itself above the law. E.g. changes to judicial review; prime minister & gov officials breaking the law with relative impunity; coercing police to ignore or go easy on gov law breaking.

2. Government reducing media's ability to hold it to account. E.g. changes to official secrets act criminalising publishing whistleblowers.

3. Government reducing public's ability to hold gov to account through protest. The policing bill giving police sweeping powers to criminalise protests & snuff out dissenting voices.

4. Government putting itself in charge of the previously independent Election Commission. All sorts of scope for abuse of power here, reducing the ability of the people to hold the government to account at the ballot box.

5. Government guidance on education that it considers acceptable. See recent 'guidance' on politics and 'balance' in the classroom; presumably meaning that teachers are required to point out that colonial imperialism was quite good for the the colonised, as well as having the odd problem; and that black lives do matter, but so do white ones.

There may be other strands I have missed but these are the ones that immediately spring to mind. I don't think it's a stretch to suggest the present government is essentially authoritarian, and is enacting a series of measures to remove democratic guardrails aimed at the indefinite preservation of power. And that once these measures are in place there'll be more put forward to tighten the noose around democracy's neck.

Can anyone advise who I should contact ( with details) regarding the awful conditions I endure in my season ticket seat. This has been going on for some time but yesterday I was unable to sit in my seat without getting soaked, if it was not so cold I would wear flip flops

Hypothetical: Roy keeps Watford up at the expense of Patrick

Football may look good, but this is a results game. How would you feel?

Let's hope it doesn't get to this, but would be regretful as I'd say it would show PV has stepped up to the big leagues too quickly.

Let's hope we smash them at Vicarage Road, or at least a slender win will do lol.

Crystal Ball: Twatford (a)

Take two.

Oh how I wish Roy had actually retired.

Relegation Avoidance Calculator 21-22 (with more than a hint of mid table Comfort)

So really this is not something that I think we are going to need ,but in order to show just how unlikely it is this is the return of of the calculator. Looking at points so far and considering form it could well be as low as 31 or 32 points to stay up but I am going for what should be a comfortable 36. Midtable is going to be around 45 and that would be a good solid performance. I expect as this goes on to be moving away from the 36 total towards the 45 but I have so far been spectacularly unable to guess our results at all this season so who can say. I do wish we had played Watford at least once before Roy was appointed though.

What I would say is this is not what I necessarily think we will score or actual predictions - it is just a general estimate of where we probably need to be between now and the end of the season.

So:-

Team...................Predicted ......... Actual .......... +/-

Watford(a)................L
Burnley (h)...............W
Wolves (a)................L
Man C (h).................L
Newcastle (a)...........D
Arsenal(a)................L
Leicester(a)..............L
Everton(a)................L
Leeds (h)................W
Soton (a).................L
Watford(h)..............W
Villa(a)....................L
Man U (h)................L

Leaving Early

If you want to leave early, fair enough, go; but don't then stand around to watch, blocking others' view, and then get the hump when they ask you to move.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Watford 23/02/22 A

samedi 19 février 2022

What I’d go:

Guiata
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Kouyate - McArthur
Ayew - Olise - Zaha
Edouard

Butland, Ward, Kelly, Milivojevic, Gallagher Schlupp, Eze, Mateta, Benteke

Obviously Butland in for Guaita if he’s injured.

I’d still persevere with Zaha, I think he’ll improve with Olise next to him and a striker in front of him. I’d keep Clyne. Harsh on Gallagher but that midfield performed wel against Chelsea.

Olise as a ten?

Despite the loss, today provides 'food for thought' regarding Olise as a potential number ten.

Since our transfer policies left ourselves so vulnerable in the middle and JMac got injured, we've suffered two problems. One was attacking through the middle. Second, that we lacked CMs able to play our system and was forced to play Schlupp.

What if we were to stick with Olise as a ten? We could add that extra threat through the middle via his superb through ball passes. As a bonus, we would only require two deeper-sitting CBs, behind. That would give us four players ( JMac, Gallagher, Hughes and Kouyate ) vying for two spots. We would finally have actual midfield cover and the ability to make high-quality substitutions for tiring midfielders late on. Ayew is a fine shield for the full back and Ward / Clyne would be happy to see him on the right. Ayew is also so tricky and gets us up field very well, even if end product is lacking.

Or is that a bad idea? Would the midfield be weak with Olise behind the striker and only two sitting midfielders? Would we miss Olise's crosses too much?

Thoughts?

Rumour: Eze to Newcastle?! £45million

mercredi 16 février 2022

NEWCASTLE are lining up a fresh £45million summer swoop for Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze.

The newly-rich Toon offered the Eagles £5m in the January window to take their playmaker on loan for the rest of the season with a view to a £35m permanent switch at the end of the season.

What are you giving up to offset the massive energy and cost of living price rises?

Personally, I am dramatically reducing my alcohol intake, down from three bottles of wine a week to one. At Lidl prices this saves for the two of us, around £80 month.

I have also re-programmed our central heating timer to save a bit of oil for the burner (price of domestic heating oil has doubled in the last six months, - no gas in our village).

My wife has gone on to an Extant diet, and to help, I have gone back to a 5/2 option, and this has saved around £20 a month on food, and make us feel a bit healthier.

In retirement, and adding in an additional measure of voluntary covid isolation, petrol consumption has been reduced significantly as well.

This just about covers the current increases I think.

Trudeau has taken the unprecedented step of invoking the Emergencies Act which will allow them, without a court order, to force banks to freeze the personal accounts of anyone linked with the protests.

So a government can take away your ability to basically survive in the modern world even if you haven’t broken any law?

Discussion: Summer 2022 Squad Refresh Pt 2

Carl reckons that PV has said he wants:

Keeper
RB
2 CM

in the summer.

Looking at the current squad and taking into account the above you would possibly think..

Most likely staying:

Butland, Matthews
Ward, Guehi, Andersen, Mitchell, Ferguson (pending fitness)
Hughes, Schlupp
Mateta, Edouard, Olise, Eze

Out of contract (according to Stigma’s list but a couple of doubts on Ayew & McArthur)

Clyne - would be expected to leave
Tomkins
Kelly - leave?
Jach?
Kouyate
McArthur
Ayew
Gallagher

Possible sales/departures or in WZ’s case a new deal…

Guaita - based on age and PV wanting a keeper
Zaha - last year of contract
Luka - last year of contract
Benteke - last year of contract
Reidewald - nowhere near the team

Academy possible promotions..

Adaramola
Rak-Sakyi
Banks
Plange
Others?

Academy becoming overage -some out of contract I believe?

Dreher
Hannam
Kirby
Spence

Looking at all that, we seem to have another busy summer, beyond the 4 mentioned by Carl.

Suggestions and discuss away…

Energy tariff

Hi all,

This probably seems like a dumb question, sorry in advance....my energy tariff is fixed until June. I currently pay 22p per KWH for leccy and 4p something for gas. I've got an EV now, so I would be interested in swapping to octopus go. 30p peak and 7p per KWH off peak. My question...can I split my supplier? So I'd move my electricity to Octopus and keep the 4p per KWH with British Gas until June? I can't face ringing them and being on hold for 45mins to find out.

Forget Valentines day, I remember this date for one reason, and one reason only.

Stamford Bridge, FA Cup fifth round. Feb 14 1976.

Chelsea 2 Crystal Palace 3.

I was 15 and remember the whole day as if it was yesterday!!

From getting on the bus in the morning for the 2 hour journey, the intimidation queing to get in, Allison going to the Shed and doing "thumbs down, 3-0", going 2 nil up, horses on terraces, Peter Taylors winner, my Chelsea mates not waiting for me afterwards, the game on MOTD, coats for goalposts isnt it???

What a great day and I shall be texting said Chelsea mates today to remind them.

Million & 1.

I was thinking of a charity event for darts, trying for 1000,000 and 1. My maths is shit, and wondering how feasible it is given average score, number of participants, and how long it might take etc. Is there some sort of realistic formula to work to as a goer? Finishing on a double of course!

Dip in form; so how do we get out of it? Feb 2022

Reading a number of current threads most agree we are in a dip. Ok fine

How do we get out of it?

Does PV need to stop changing the strikers?

Do we need to rest Ward? If so who plays?

The midfield is inconsistent, Jeff Schlupp is he the cause or the cure?

Should Zaha play 90 mins?

Can we play Ebez Olise and Zaha in the same team?

Ayew yes or no?

Thoughts welcome!

Player Ratings And Reviews: Brentford (Away)

Guaita - One nice save, nothing much to do after that

Ward - Shaky again
Guehi - Should have given a pen
Andersen - MotM barely over Mitchell and Hughes
Mitchell - Nice game

Hughes - Did his job
Schlupp - Invisible as usual
Gallagher - Not suited to this role

Wilf - Dragged our offense down, bad
Edouard - Didn't need a shower after the match
Ayew - Ineffective

Mateta - Nothing much to do
Macca - Looked good in limited time
Olise - Not enough time to make an impact

PV - Forget the lineup, our strategy is bizarre and not working

The Hiking Thread

OK it's not a sport but it's physical and it's probably better here than in GCC. Maybe it'll die but maybe it'll be a place to share adventures, advice and experiences.

I was out in Snowdonia last week for an overnight impromptu backpack with an old work pal, we 'climbed' the Devil's Kitchen and camped overnight in the col between Y Garn and Glyder Fawr. As you know there was a bit of a storm last weekend so instead of staying on the mountain we decided to descend because by the afternoon winds were 70mph sustained gusting to 100mph and we didn't fancy an accident, the gutless ponces we are.

And just when you think that you've seen it all, just when you think "oh well let's get off the mountain in case we die" we pass this guy on the way up. I'm not kidding, the wind was proper strong! He said to us "I want to feel distressed".......

I'm planning another trip to introduce one of my daughters to the wilderness in a longer term plan to thru-hike the walkers Haute Route Chamonix-Zermatt with her later this year fingers crossed (120 miles).

Suggested Team and Formation For: Chelsea (19/2) H

Gallagher not in, McArthur and Kouyate back, I’d say it’s a perfect excuse to completely shake up the midfield.

Hughes knee twist didn’t look great, if he’s out then I’d get Eze in the side, please not Schlupp!!!

Guaita
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Kouyate
McArthur - Hughes
Olise - Mateta - Zaha

Butland, Ward, Tomkins, Milivojevic, Schlupp, Eze, Ayew, Edouard, Benteke

Bungalow Road or Holmesdale Road end?

Father in law watched Palace in the 50s, he said he used to watch them from the Bungalow Road end. Few people I know brought up off of Portland road call it the Bungalow Road end too, everyone else I know calls it the Holmesdale road end.

Anyone shed some light on this?

Help ! Advice needed with a will issue

My stepmother passed away in May 2020 and her will left everything to be split equally between my two stepbrothers, my sister and myself. One of the stepbrothers was named as the executor of the will.

The house has still not been put on the market, with various reasons offered. The executor is claiming emotional difficulties and is unable to perform his role and his brother has tried to take over those duties. He expressed an interest in buying the house himself, but does not have the funds. He has recently come out of prison, and has now moved into the property.

My sister has persistently encouraged him to put the house up for sale but he is refusing. She is seeing legal action as the only option, but her solicitor is asking extortionate fees with no guarantee of success.

I have health issues and have to move out of my current house into a bungalow and need the money to do this.

Where do we stand legally ? Is he breaking the law moving in to the house ?

Guaita
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Hughes
Gallagher - McArthur
Olise - Mateta - Zaha

Butland, Ward, Tomkins, Milivojevic, Schlupp, Eze, Ayew, Edouard, Benteke

With no injuries we have so many options now, competition for places at an all time high.

Poor Performances

It’s hard viewing Crystal Palace.

The changes Viera made tonight absolutely nullified us.

Joel Ward needs to get on that training ground to start practicing whipping balls into the box. 10 years a player and I can’t recall him putting many “decent” balls into the box. I mean if he’s training to put the ball into the keepers arms or over the bar, he’s done a brilliant job.

Eze has gone from a promising player to an absolutely bang average player after his injury. It’s a shame, but it’s costing us.

Zaha’s penalty is up there with Jason Puncheons. Very costly.

Positives:- The fans, brilliant and none of our players kick cats.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Norwich (away)

Thought we tried hard, had good possession and played fairly well in the second half after a disappointing first half:

Guaita 6 not much to do, goal close to him but off post

Mitchell 9 MOM outstanding. Won penalty, aggressive, overlapped, good defending
Guehi 8 rock solid. Tough
Andersen 8 also rock solid. Classy
Ward 5 he’s tough, but too slow. Dominated in 1st half

Schlupp 8 I thought he was very good after not getting the pen. He was furious and it seemed to fire him up. He has pace and power, he can tackle he can run with it. He should be doing more, and this just shows he can. But he is all too often playing in 2nd gear

Hughes 7 defended well the area in front of the back 4.
Gallagher 6 below par but usual work rate

Zaha 7 excellent goal. Didn’t go past, slipped on the pen. Tried.
Mateta 6 pace in behind. Excellent disallowed goal
Olise 6 no support. He’s a wonderful player but he lacks pace so he needs help

Subs:

Ayew: rusty
Eze: n/a
Edouard: n/a

We are in a good place. They are trying for Vieira but Ward is the weakest link again. And the midfield lacks quality, but hopefully Eze can help there. We lack pace out wide so I can see why we like Mateta down the middle but when Norwich were pegged back the sub to make was the much maligned Benteke. But we move on, it’s not a disaster and this team is in transition.

Happy birthday Pat of the Palace

Have a great one, you welder you.

Axel Kei - Youngest Player in MLS History

lundi 7 février 2022

So, Real Salt Lake (owned by David Blitzer and my home club) recently signed the "Youngest PLayer in MLS History."

Axel Kei. His birthday is listed as 30 December 2007 meaning he just turned 14.

He's 13 in this clip (#80 scoring the goal) from a youth game. Yes he's playing against U16s which makes him look bigger but he's already over 6 foot.

Have the Weed reached their pinnacle?

Crystal Ball: Norwich Feb 9 2022

Norwich are on a hot streak with three wins in a row against Everton, Watford and Wolves. Over those three games they've only allowed one goal. They have done this by ceding possession and staying behind the ball defensively. Against Everton and Wolves they only had 40% and 35% possession. Their goals in that stretch have come from largely from crosses (including two own-goals).

I expect a tight low-scoring match with plenty of Palace possession. If Palace can keep from getting sloppy they have a good chance.

I'm going with:
Norwich 1 - 2 Palace (Idah, Zaha, Eze as a sub with the winner)

Chelsea pay out on racism claims

Chelsea have decided to pay out damages to former youth team players who were suing the club after having been allegedly racially abused by former coaches Graham Rix and Gwyn Williams.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

When i googled the story i found an old piece in the Guardian by one of the old players and the crap he had to put up with from these two was incredible especially by Rix.

What has amazed me though that even after being put on the sex offenders list and after reading the players account, Rix is still allowed to work in football at non league level.

Watching from the Holmsdale

I normally sit in the main stand but Saturday I sat in the lower Holmsdale block H. First of all there were a bunch of guys who insisted in standing up in the centre blocks which meant that we couldn't see what was going on in our RB position without standing up. Then 5 minutes before half time there was a constant stream of people coming up the stairs to get onto the concourse for whatever reason, so once again we were up & down like a whore's draws! At half time the concourse was jammed with people either trying to go to the bogs or fighting to get served at the bar.

After half time it got better but we were still up & down like a yo yo when we attacked that end. There was a 6.6 foot man who insisted on standing for most of that half right in front of me. I'll be glad to get back to the M S next game. I don't envy H S season ticket holders if it's like that every week.

Thank you for watching - a grumpy old man.

Bogs in the Arthur

Was in there for the game yesterday for the first time in years. What's all the fuss about? Way better than the WH, where anyone over 5'6" has to bend over to take a piss.......

The “myth” that we don’t score enough goals?

Without going down an xG rabbit hole…

There are lots of posts on match day threads, player ratings, the Viera thread etc saying basically that we are not good enough in front of goal, if only we converted more chances, if only we had a better goal scorer etc etc. One yesterday said that we would never push on until we convert more chances.

But it isn’t really true…

We are the 8th highest scorers in the league.
We average just under 1.5 goals a game

And I put this on the match day thread yesterday..

We are 7th in the PL for shots to goals conversion ratio according to Transfermarkt. 9% converted, top are Leicester with 10.8%. Others ahead of us are..

Liverpool
Chelsea
Man City
WHU
Villa

The league average is 8%.

I’m really not sure what more we can do but some seem to think we should be banging in goal after goal after goal. Yet there we are above the majority of our peers in both goals scored and chances converted. Who’d believe it?

Rumour: Joe Aribo in the Summer

samedi 5 février 2022

HAPPY WORLD OF ARIBO Crystal Palace lining up £10m transfer for Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo to fill void left by Conor Gallagher next season

CRYSTAL PALACE have put Rangers star Joe Aribo on the top of their shopping list for next season.

Londoner Aribo could head home this summer as Eagles boss Patrick Vieira looks for a midfielder to replace loan star Conor Gallagher after his return to Chelsea.

Palace sporting director Dougie Freedman watched Nigeria star Aribo, 25, in the midweek Old Firm clash with Celtic.

Rangers would want about £10million for ex-Charlton man Aribo and Palace have the funds available.

The Scottish giants may have the Champions League to offer.

But the lure of London and a chance to play in the English top-flight could tempt Aribo.

Palace are also facing the loss of some players who are out of contract in the summer and many of them are midfielders.

Aribo - who has 18 months left on his deal - has been at Rangers since 2019 after a £300,000 move from Charlton.

Coincidentally the Addicks replaced him with Gallagher on loan from Stamford Bridge, giving the now-England star his first senior action.

Aribo played a starring role in last season’s Scottish Premiership title win.

He has so far helped himself to 23 goals in 125 games for the Glasgow outfit.

That form earned him international recognition with Nigeria, who have capped him 15 times.

Aribo started in three of their four matches at the Africa Cup of Nations before being dumped out in the last-16 by Tunisia.

He returned for the disappointing 3-0 Old Firm hammering at against Celtic at Parkhead.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 2-0 Hartlepool

We got the job done which is the main thing without being spectacular!

You have to give credit to Hartlepool though big blow to concede so early but they hung in there and gave us a fair bit of trouble 2nd half.

Hopefully the Hartlepool fan that was taken ill is ok.

Their fans were brilliant today fair play to them.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Norwich (9/2) A

Guaita
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Hughes
Gallagher - McArthur
Olise - Mateta - Zaha

Butland, Clyne, Kelly, Milivojevic, Schlupp, Eze, Ayew, Edouard, Benteke

I know I’m crazy for starting McArthur after such a long injury, but to be honest I see no other option. I don’t think Luka or Schlupp have been performing. Riedewald is a no go. Eze is probably regarded as not ready and still needs easing back in.

It depends whether Kouyate is happy to come straight back in after winning the AFCON! Which regardless, he’d be knackered.

The great energy bill rebate.

Apologies if this is posted elsewhere but Martin Lewis the Money saving Expert has this to say about the so-called rebate:

Everyone will get a £200 rebate on their bills in Oct whether they want it or not.
Everyone will then have to pay it back at £40 a year from April 23 for five years whether they want to or not.

This raises possible scenarios such as:

You buy a house from someone who has received the £200 rebate and then have to pay it back yourself because the bill is on that property.

A landlord receives a £200 rebate on their energy bill and the tenants are asked to pay the £200 back when the landlord switches bill paying to them.

Students paying bills on a house get a rebate on their bill one year and then the students moving into the house get to pay it back for five years.

Seems like a good idea to me.

FA CUP 5th round who do you want?

Well not many new grounds for me so I`d like to progress to round 6 so Stoke at home for me.

Boiler question

Going away for a few days so was planning on turning off the mains water at the stopcock and set my boiler to Holiday mode on the Hive Thermostat so it only comes on if the temperature drops below 7 degrees. However it’s a combi boiler (Worcester Bosch, about 2 years old) so I am a bit confused if the heating will still come on if I turn the water off, and whether it can damage the boiler if not?

BBS CUP 2022

We hopefully will be able to run the BBS 6 a side cup at Selhurst Park again this year. The date Thursday 2nd June, however this is not an absolute definite and needs to be confirmed by the club in the next couple of months.

Inflation

After posting how much my shopping has gone up on another thread along with the rising fuel, power, national insurance and council tax I have just worked out I will be £2640 worse off this year. That’s an astounding figure. I’m just thankful I have a job and I won’t starve or go cold but Fking hell this is going to be rough.

AS always, punt your score, scorers and crowd. I think this is the last round that goes to a replay if drawn.

Karma of a sort. Kevin Friend has been demoted , at least for a week over that penalty decision. Might make some peoples day anyway

Discussion: Diego Costa on a free.

Thoughts?

Once in a lifetime date/time today

That is all

A younger squad

Based on their age at the start of next season we could field a team with an average age of under 25:

Butland, Ferguson, Guehi, Andersen, Mitchell, Olise, Hughes, Riedewald, Eze, Mateta, Edouard.

Add in the potential young talent like Banks, Rak-Sayki, Plange etc., and it shows how much the team has been revitalized.

Two seasons ago we had the oldest squad in the league and currently we are 15th. It can only get better.

Beer Festival 2022

Afternoon all, is there any news on this years beer festival? I haven't seen anything but its entirely possible that I might have missed it. Cheers.

David Goodwillie and Raith Rovers

Goodwillie has just signed for Raith Rovers yesterday.

Today the women's captain has quit and Val McDermid has cancelled her shirt sponsorship for next season.

As a reminder, Goodwillie was judged to be a rapist in a civil case.

Was a stain on this club that we took him on loan (albeit before the civil case)
