Rumour: Kouyate back to West Ham

Apparently they had a chance meeting not long ago and Kouyate expressed he would be keen to come back. Moyes likes him but Soucek has been bought now and other positions are a priority twitter.com/claretblublood…

Sheffield wednesday minus 12 points

Shefield wednesday will apparently start next season on -12 points for breaking EFLs profitability and sustainability rules. Not sure whats happened but seems draconian considering Man city just about got away with murder for their infringements Oh well some rules for some. Diferent rules for others.

Ok so nobody cares. Anyway, Lyon need to win to qualify for the Europa League. If Lyon don't win, they could be saying goodbye to Depay, Dembélé and Aouar.

200:

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Surprising cover versions

Not long ago I came across this 1982 cover sung by Whitney Houston (As guest singer with Material) of Hugh Hopper's song 'Memories' originally performed by The Wilde Flowers, a predecessor of Soft Machine.

It's an absolute gem of a recording, only made better by the bizareness of it being an obscure proto-prog song sung by an 18yo future pop goddess as part of a funk supergroup.

Any other surprising and brilliant cover versions out there?

Rumour: Bright Osayi-Samuel

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Crystal Palace are considering a move for QPR winger Bright Osayi-Samuel.

The 22-year-old has been mulling over a transfer to Club Brugge since the Belgian outfit recently had a £4.7m bid accepted.

QPR and the player himself have been hoping a Premier League or leading Championship club would come in for him.

Several have been linked with Osayi-Samuel and clubs enquired about him during the January transfer window.

However, none have so far indicated they are ready to pay in the region of £5m.

But Palace, who have long been keen on Osayi-Samuel’s QPR team-mate Ebere Eze, are now pondering whether to match Club Brugge’s bid.

It means both Eze and Osayi-Samuel could end up at Selhurst Park.

Rangers recently triggered an option to extend the contracts of Osayi-Samuel and Ryan Manning by a year. Both players' deals were due to expire this summer.

Osayi-Samuel has rejected offers of a longer-term contract.

That prompted QPR to accept an improved bid from Club Brugge, who previously had a £3m offer rejected.

Manning has similarly kept his options open. The Irishman has been linked with West Ham.

West Ham and Palace have both made approaches for Eze, who has been linked with several other top-flight clubs.

QPR would like any deal with the Hammers to include Jordan Hugill moving to Loftus Road in part exchange.

Striker Hugill scored 15 goals during his season on loan with the R's.

Rumour: Mohamed Simakan

Ed Aarons

Palace and West Brom both interested in Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan, who is also being tracked by Monaco and AC Milan. Expected to cost around £14m

He is 20

Discussion: Palace squad sales - summer 2020

We have a thin enough squad as it is, but if we are to refresh and free up wages then should we also be looking to sell as well as buy?

I thought it might be helpful to have one thread for squad sales discussion.

As a starter some possible candidates listed below:

Hennessey
- don't know his wages but am happy to have him as a NO.2

Sakho - has been brilliant for us at times, but on big money and too often on the treatment table plus we have 5-6 centrebacks

Meyer - is there any point in him staying if he doesn't play? Both for us and him

Townsend - one year left, had a poor season, is it time for one last move for him and a refresh for us

Zaha - this has been discussed to death but if he and Townsend go then even more wingers needed

Wickham - one year left, played a bit at Wednesday Roy seems ambivalent at best

Benteke - one year left, on big big money, little, little goals, I may be one of the few that still like him but you can't ignore the wage savings

Sorloth - 6.5 million in the bank as far as I am concerned

If we were to sell all of the above we would have to buy one hell of a lot of replacements.

Any other first team squad players, that might, or should be moved on?

Selling CDs on ebay

Hello all, I've used ebay to buy a few things in the past, but I can't remember selling on ebay. I'm planning to sell some music CDs there. I have quite a few including some harder to find specialist type ones. My plan is to list a few CDs initially, and see how it works out. I had a few thoughts and questions before I start, and would appreciate any input …

'Buy It Now' or auction?
A lot of items for sale on ebay seem to have the 'Buy It Now' option, but no old-style auction option. I am quite keen to sell quickly, preferably within a few days, but I don't want to lose too much off my potential selling price.

Payment
What works best?

Image of the CD for the listing
I don't have a smartphone or camera, only the webcam on my Apple Mac. Can I use existing CD artwork on my listings if I can find it? If I can find the same CD listed for sale on ebay or amazon, can I easily access the artwork so that I don't have to start from scratch, photographing everything myself.

Any advice or suggestions on the above or anything else welcomed and appreciated :p

Crystal Palace Supporters Club Postcards 1936-1939

5 Subs Next Season ?

I think this is still yet to be voted on - perhaps it will be done once the Championship playoff winners are known (?) - but how do people feel about this ?

Personally, I think it might be the final straw for me where the PL is concerned.

It just so completely loads the dice in the favour of the already bigger clubs that already have massive financial advantages over the rest of the league.

It will also just encourage the bigger clubs to hoard more up and coming talents on golden handcuff deals. I had hoped that with the proposed limits on the number of loans the bigger clubs could loan out would level the playing field, but this proposal just completely distorts it once again.

There was a 33 point gap between the top 4 last season and the Guardian reported yesterday that there was an average 45 point between the top 10 during the last 10 years, whereas it was an average 35 points the 10 years before. How more unequal do the PL want the league to become ?

Personally, if the rest of the league don't vote against this proposal then I just think my already dwindling interest will be completely gone with the PL.

Suggestion: Ismaila Sarr - Summer 2020

Ismaila Sarr is by miles the best player from the 3 relegated sides.

I was disappointed Palace did not get him ahead of Watford last summer.
(old thread) To view the link you have to Register or Login

Some (agent probably) rumours about Liverpool 'monitoring' him, but Watford will want to start a bidding war of course.

Obvious Zaha replacement, who may actually be an upgrade too.

Taylor Swift

No discussion of her on the Music Forum?

So how about her new single, Cardigan ...

Discussion: Troy Deeney

lundi 27 juillet 2020

Looks like he wants a fresh challenge, just turned 32 but probably another decent season in him..

He would add to forward options but we would obviously need more, big character in the dressing room

Rumour: Borna Barisic

Will he be willing to leave Rangers to be an understudy to PVA? If yes then will Mitchell be loaned out? Is PVA leaving to make Barisic first choice left back?
Is this just a rumour or actually happening? The silly season where we are rumoured to be buying and selling loads of players has begun.

Rumour: Tobias Figueiredo

Currently living in Nottingham as I play the role of Little John in the Robin Hood experience. Was disappointed to miss out on the part of Robin Hood but can't complain best job I've ever had. Anyway my mate who plays Robin Hood knows a few on the inside of Forest and big rumour is Tobias Figueiredo is off after missing out on promotion. We are leading the chase.

Would make sense with Dougie's previous connection with the club. Expect this one to get over the line.

Dougie Freedman - Next Manager?

Just got a feeling that if Roy Hodgson goes Dougie will step back into management for the second time. He had ambition when he left to go to Bolton but chose the wrong club. Now older and wiser and understanding how, what and where we need players, and moving on from the hurt our fans felt, including me, when he buggered off when we were flying, how do we all feel about this? At least he knows the club top to bottom. Thoughts?

Pre Season

As there is only 7 weeks between the end of this season and the start of next, I wonder how pre season will work. Maybe two weeks off and then back to it or as their fitness should be ok, maybe they get 3 weeks and they start at a higher fitness level than normal.

Also I wonder how many friendlies they will play. If they are trying to sign a few players then these will be really important to integrate them into the way we want to play. Will be tough to try and change the style in such a short period of time.

Would love to know that I'm not going mad. Surely this is sh*t housery of the highest order from Birmingham? He's played one season of senior football for them, making a grand total of 41 appearances. I get that he's their youngest ever player but Jesus, he's leaving at 17.

Just imagine if Bostock had stayed and played a full season before somebody coughed up and we sold him. He might have left with our best wishes sure, but retiring his number!?

Why Can't We Be Foxes?

God, I'm almost somewhat nervous to be starting a thread being a relatively new Palace supporter in the USA.

I know it's very hard to reach Europe. Why can't we dream just a bit? How about going into the final match day out of Europe by a point and feeling like we're in it to the very end?

This was a satisfying, albeit interrupted campaign. I never really doubted the relegation drop from day one. But, it's been a while now... Why can't we be Foxes?

Suggestion: Loans

Not normally in favour of them as you are in effect helping the big teams improve their youngsters, but if they are really good they can have an impact and help with a push up the table - RLC for example had a massive impact and but for the start under FdB and with Hodgson finding his feet we would have finished that season in the Top 8: we were playing champagne football at the end of that season.

Still think we need some serious pace and skill in the team. Others have suggested that Sarr is no longer realistic, and I have to agree given he is being linked to Liverpool and Man Utd. Not sure there's anyone else available on a permanent who has enough pace and Premier League experience. So how about Reiss Nelson on loan from Arsenal? If they lose the FA Cup they won't be in Europe so fewer opportunities for the youngsters, and they are stocked with wingers like Pepe and Saka who are ahead of him in the pecking order so he might struggle for game time.

Another possible option for a loan is Callum Hudson-Odoi. Seems to be struggling for starts under Lampard. Even if Willian doesn't sign they still have Ziyech, Pulisic and potentially Werner who can also play wide ahead of him in the pecking order. Not to mention Mount is deployed in a front 3 sometimes, a player Frank seems to love. We get on well with Chelsea apparently. Could he be available for a season? I think along with Greenwood he's England's finest prospect.

Any other suggestions?

Reparations

Just read an article on the bbc. To view the link you have to Register or Login

At the end he mentions reparations. It seems some companies have already paid this. I have two questions I know people that have a better understanding that I can answer. Where do these reparations go to? How far back do you go? Should we ask for reparations from Italy after peoples ancestors where taken as slaves 2000 years ago or the Swedes 1500 years ago the French from the Norman conquests 1000 years ago?
I have learnt so much with the BLM momentum. I realise that education is the key for each generation, and hopefully this will continue, so that we can make greater equality strides. I do have hope for this at least here in the UK.

Once in a lifetime trip

mardi 21 juillet 2020

First things first, I hate this phrase. Quite simply because many years ago, I had the privilege of dealing with complaints for an airline, and this phrase was used very often by complainers to dramatise their issues. And often, it was used by people who had flown to Orlando, and when you actually checked their flight history, they had done the exact same trip 10 times, all within the last 5 years :D

But what would your ultimate 'once in a lifetime holiday' be?

I would love to follow the England cricket team around Australia for The Ashes. I would also quite like to drive across the US, doing all 48 contiguous states in one trip.

Rumour: Palace scout spotted in Middlesbrough

My stepson has been working in Middlesbrough and this week shared the same hotel as Steve Montgomery, who he found out happens to be a scout for us (just verified it on his LinkedIn page).

Any ideas who he could be looking at?

Montgomerys spots include Drogba so has a decent eye!

Suggestion: PACE (Let's help the Palace scouts out)

The midfield is devoid of creativity, but without pace in the attacking third that's almost irrelevant anyway. I'm incredibly concerned that Hodgson thinks we just need a goalscorer and all will be fine. It won't be, we need youthful exuberance, we need legs; above all, we need pace.

So, who do we suggest we could sign who has proper pace? Right back, attacking midfield, winger and striker suggestions please. Bonus points if they are realistic. I'll start things off. If Watford are relegated we must go for Ismaila Sarr. Very quick, and a serious attacking threat. Decent age as well.

Partial refund didn't work yesterday

Anyone else have problems?

At about 7pm yesterday, so well before the cut-off of 23:59, I applied online so that of my eight pro-rata match season tickets (I have two tickets), two of them (the two in my name) get donated to the fund (in exchange for the various incentives) and I get refunded for six of them.

However, when I clicked on the Options to bring up the refund screen, it was disabled already!! It's as though they decided to manually stop it when the box office closed rather than automatically stop it at 23:59 as they promised.

I tried on an iPhone, and on a PC (Edge and Chrome), no joy. I took screen captures and emailed box office at about 7:30 with my predicament and membership number and screen captures, so hopefully they'll honour it. Anyone else leave it to the last minute and have problems?

Application

lundi 20 juillet 2020

After a career of more than 40 years, I would like to apply for a transfer. We have had our ups and downs, but the psychological effect of supporting Palace, even at a distance, has worn me down. A fresh challenge, at this stage in my career, would do me the world of good. It is rumoured Bognor Regis Town F.C. have expressed an interest.

Does this run of losses show us how important our fans are?

I’ve just been thinking about this. We were having a really solid season but since we returned our form has been awful. Is this a demonstration of how important our fans are to team performance?

Furlough question

Been looking online but guidance doesn't seem to really spell it out clearly.

My fiancé works in TV and was working on a contract when mess hit the fan. They were all placed on furlough but have also been told that they will be have their contracts ended 31st July when the next part kicks in. Fortunately today she's been offered work elsewhere on another contract starting tomorrow.

The question is does she need to be taken off furlough at her 'current' employers to start the work or does she remain on furlough while working for the others?

The government guidance seems to indicate as long as you aren't breaching the conditions of your contract with the first employer you can go work for another while still on furlough?

Anyone got a grasp on this?

When Palace were denied Europe - Documentary

samedi 18 juillet 2020

Decided to make a You Tube documentary about the time Palace missed out on Europe in 1991. I know, I can't let it go. :D

Not sure if some of the younger fans will even be aware of it, but those of us around at the time will never forget the disappointment and feelings of anger at the end of such an amazing season for our club. It just didn’t feel fair and 29 years later, it still smarts.

Done a bit of digging around in old newspaper reports and other interviews and media stuff I kept from the time, and have detailed as many of the facts surrounding the events leading to Liverpool getting their European ban overturned.

In those pre internet days, it was something that was very quickly swept under the carpet by the football world; Liverpool finished second – us third, so what were we moaning about? Liverpool were cheered back into Europe by the media, while everyone at Palace stood there fuming at the total unfairness of it all.

It was the beginning of the end of the best team in our history. (Sorry Team of the 80’s – you were the most exciting).

It’s part of our history that I feel has largely been forgotten, so thought I’d detail the events even just to get closure for myself if nothing else!

Why did In Exile vote Leave?

In Exile has kindly offered to provide us all with his astute analysis into the reasons why he voted LEAVE.

He is convinced that Brexit will better for the UK or for him and the people he cares about most.

It is nothing to do with not liking immigrants.

It is nothing to do with the promised millions for the NHS. He saw through that littleruse straight away.

It is unfair to suggest it is because he is a gammony little islander.

He has some sparkiling and surprising analysis he wishes to stound us all with...

What is the strangest injury you have suffered celebrating a Palace goal?

As the thread title says - hopefully a bit of light relief amongst the current doom and gloom.

My entry isn’t likely to be the winner by any stretch, but self-inflicted none the less.

Whilst celebrating a rare Joel Ward goal against QPR, I believe, back in the Championship days, I routinely spilled out into the aisle of Block B and C of the Holmesdale to give myself a bit of room to jump up and down and wave my arms about like a lunatic. The benefit of having an aisle seat, of course.

On this occasion my excitement teetered over my usual level, and after throwing my fist in the air from the hip to give a ‘Dowie Pump’ I managed to clump myself full force on the forehead. After a couple of seconds of embarrassment and pain, I realised nobody had seen it happen, so I did what anybody else what do in that situation and kept my shut and shuffled back to my seat whilst half heartily clapping to Glad All Over.

Half time arrives, and my mate hands me my pint and clocks the lump on my forehead the size of a £2 coin. I should have blamed it on someone else but I froze and sheepishly admitted it was my own doing.

So that’s my strangest (and lamest) injury, what’s yours?

Tyrick Mitchell discussion

With Tyrick now having made his second (brief) appearance for the first team, I think it's probably right he has his own thread. With the injury to PVA, surely (like AWB did when Ward got injured) his time has arrived for the final two games of the season.

I know it's possible Jairo might take PVA's position but surely there's never a better chance to play Mitchell with nothing to play for....

Will Roy trust him though being so inexperienced?

Obviously many people (particularly those in the vulnerable category) will be unsure about returning in the current climate, although I suspect the majority won't really give a shit.

Selhurst's concourses aren't exactly designed for easy social distancing so I can't imagine what measures they can put in place to put people's minds at ease. Probably a few half-full hand sanitisers and some overpriced Palace masks.

If fans are given the green light in October will you be going?

What should we do with Zaha next season?

Last night against Man Utd we saw Wilf turn in another MOM performance, playing further up the pitch as a forward in a 2, rather than tracking back and playing deeper and wider in a front 3 as he has for most of the season.

So I’d like to know people’s thoughts as to whether we should sell him because he has already peaked and is not the same player, play him wide and sign a new striker because other than last night he’s had a good season and been creating lots for the central striker playing wide left in a 3; we just need someone more prolific up front to convert all those chances (this is what I think the Palace management think), or play him up front in a 2 and sign some decent wingers/attacking midfielders as we need a talent like Wilf on the shoulder of their last defender and able to help us play decent counter attacking football.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Wolves (a)

Guaita
Ward Dann Sakho Mitchell
Kouyate Riedewald
Zaha Meyer Schlupp
Pierrick

With PVA's injury and Mitchell's short-but-impressive cameo last night he has to play. If he shoves Schlupp or Riedewald at LB I give up.

Luka's passing is so poor I don't think I can take another 90 minutes of it. McArthur and Ayew must be knackered so give them a day off. We already know what both can do. Let's give Riedewald, Meyer and Pierrick a proper chance to perform rather than a measly five minutes here and there.

Of course Roy won't do any of this, but it's nice to dream

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 0-2 Man United

jeudi 16 juillet 2020

A 6th defeat on the spin looks bad for Palace, but like the Chelsea game, I thought we played well. This was a huge contrast to the dross against Liverpool, Burnley, Leicester and Villa. We were unlucky with the timing of the opener coming so shortly after an incident where the consensus seemed to be we should have been awarded a penalty.

Palace returned to a 442, not too dissimilar to one that lined up frequently in the 17/18 season. It resulted in a bright, positive, attacking play. Townsend, Ayew and most of all Zaha gave United a lot of problems. Mcarthur was perhaps the odd one out in midfield, but he used the overlapping Van Aanholt well to provide the pace. United were always going to cause problems on the break, but we generally had an answer for their approach play when we did have men back. Wan-Bissaka isn't particularly dangerous out wide and Fosu-Mensah playing as an inverted LB meant we could crowd around their front three.

I have to say, I'm not surprised that the dropping of the limited Kouyate saw Palace play better football. I'm not a fan at all.

Guaita 7 - Good handling and saved what he realistically could
Ward 7 - Much better from Ward in possession this time out. Solid defensively as well.
Dann 8 - Classy and composed in possession. He's put together a nice run in the side. I hope he stays fit for the remaining two.
Sakho 6 - Really struggled with Maguire at set pieces. Reasonably good distribution from the back.
Van Aanholt 7 - Was having a good game until the injury. I hope Roy uses Mitchell in the final two.
Townsend 7 - A much better performance from Townsend. He played some intricate, one touch and clever football.
Milivojevic 6 - Better than recent weeks, but it's still not the high standards he has previously set himself.
McCarthy 6 - Put in a real shift.
Mcarthur 6 - Used Van Aanholt well on the overlap and supported the attacks nicely. Loses a mark for not taking on the shot when well placed.
Ayew 6 - Worked hard, but the wrong weight of pass once too often tonight when we had players in advanced positions.
Zaha 8 - A classy performance from Zaha. Should have had a penalty, was a mm away from a great assist and generally caused them problems all night long.

Mitchell looked composed which was nice to see.
Riedewald didn't seem to into the pace of the game.
Schlupp looked rusty, but I think he'll give us some nice balance to end the season with.

For the rest of the season I think I'd like us to line up with:

Guaita
Ward Dann Sakho Mitchell
Townsend Mcarthur Milivojevic Schlupp
Ayew Zaha

Why is there no ambition within the club?

I dont mind defensive football but when you dont have a purpose to win a game its embarrasing. Also embarrasing parish blaming it all on VAR. If it wasnt for VAR we would of lost quiet a few points. Where is the ambition. Why do we always settle for the least. Since we have been in the prem burnley have been promoted and got europe while we havent event got past 9th. Bari Weiss NYT Resignation Letter

I found this to be a superlatively constructed resignation letter; accurately depicting the culture of advocacy that has replaced journalism at the NYT. Advocacy journalism, of course, should properly be blamed on Republicans, because it all started with the repeal of the 'Fairness Doctrine' under Reagan but has become a powerful tool to push ideological orthodoxy. The prime and most effective example of that has been the pushing of Identity-based politics and extreme forms of Leftism.

In the letter, the attempts at character assassination and intimidation against a journalist, specifically hired to supposedly lend at least some countervailing perspective to the extant monoculture at the NYT, a supposed organ of balanced, public information, is plain to see. It is another sad example of how destructive the focus on Identity over objectivity -as a means to define what 'justice' is -has become. In this case, a talented writer who could have remained an asset to the paper was deemed an intolerable presence among supposedly learned people and felt her life had become unbearable at the NYT as a consequence. I expect the paper will be pleased not to have had to fire her and face the financial consequences.

As before, this letter below is for people who want to think and consider. Those who seethe at someone daring to write something here that presents the slightest challenge to the efficacy of their ideology are free to club together and bond and bask in the mutual condemnation of a dissenter. Like with my last political thread, they can arrogantly assume that my daring to write something that vies with their own politics represents an actual 'hate crime' and, after that feat of mental gymnastics, declare I need banning. I salute the mods for recognizing a sane distinction.

I won't be replying to anything written here because there will be no reasoned argument ( let alone neutral discussion ) any more than there would be any polite tolerance for those who can't join with the methods and tactics of Identity Politics / Political Correctness, even when having sympathy with at least some of the goals and while remaining loosely within the same political spectrum.

Hope someone finds this letter linked below, and the perspective it gives from someone who actually has lived the experience of trying to be an objective observer in these tribal times, interesting. If nothing else, it's a triumph of prose, IMHO.

Does anyone REALLY care?

lundi 13 juillet 2020

Extra ordinary times, no fans, games every three days, nothing to play for...I personally, really don’t care what happens this so called ‘season’ now that we’re safe. I don’t mind missing games shown on TV which would never happen in a ‘normal’ season. I don’t care if players aren’t giving 100%, I don’t care if they are already on the beach, the season should have been cancelled 3 months ago. I suppose the only argument you could have is that Roy could play more youngsters but that doesn’t bother me particularly either. To get all hot and bothered over these last few performances is completely pointless in my opinion. Unprecedented times just underline the importance/unimportance of sport in our lives just be prepared for games behind closed door ALL next season too!

Jordan Peterson - A sane perspective on PC / Postmodernism

If only this was taught to more young people and and given airtime within establishment media, instead of the usual ideological programming and untruths being disseminated by the continuing march through our institutions by an extreme, Leftist culture of division, revisionism, hatred and madness.

Too many people fail to understand why the glaring contradictions and double standards exist within Leftist narratives, which require them to utilize control systems such as shaming, cancelling, doxing, rioting and lying in order to enforce conformity upon those who can't be intellectually captured by dogma, a cultish insistence on obedience and a personal need to consider ( and declare ) themselves morally superior. As this video demonstrates, it comes from a uneasy confluence of Marxism and Postmodernism. It is brilliantly explained here how a genuine attempt to bring about a better, more sophisticated and caring world, via sane levels of 'Political Correctness,' has been hijacked and warped into an intellectual tyranny that wants to tear down pretty much the entire fruit of The Enlightenment and damns and destroys even the well-meaning and moderate dissenters that it cannot persuade or cow.

There's a lot to unpack in this video, as to the genesis and pathology of the modern PC / Identity Politics / Outrage Culture / Marxist hodgepodge that has driven the Left insane and made it something I can no longer stand beside. However, the best bit for those too busy to watch, is from about 15.58 to around 18.36, when Peterson relates how Nietzsche foresaw, more than 150 years ago, the level of hatred, revenging and historical revisionism that is sweeping through the West right now, with a clear Scorched Earth, take-no-prisoners policy; the kind of thinking which led to the cultural and population purges that destroyed tens of millions in the U.S.S.R., China and Cambodia. ( something that those radicals and Marxists have excuses for, when they aren't screaming 'Nazi' as a supposed rebuttal )

This video is for people who still have the courage and desire to think and won't be bullied into conformity. Hopefully a few sitting on the intellectual fence will find something in it. I just wanted to advertise this discussion video. I won't be commenting on this thread and certainly not replying to whatever, Ad Hominem garbage that inevitably gets thrown back by certain people, in lieu of having any real, objective intellectual leg to stand on ( or facts ) to justify their politics. I've come to accept the wise words of Thomas Sowell ( yeah -he's black so is clearly an Uncle Tom ) when it comes to the futility of trying to reach the captured and arrogant minds of SJWs; “It is usually futile to try to talk facts and analysis to people who are enjoying a sense of moral superiority in their ignorance.”

Admittedly it is Roy and Ray’s job to motivate the squad and they deserve a lot of criticism but the players, particularly the senior pros, have let us down badly.

Since beating Bournemouth and securing safety they have simply downed tools.

Over the past few years we have kicked on and finished strongly and looked like a squad of hard working, honest characters in the dressing room.

We had two extra days rest on Villa today and could not complete a 6 yard pass.

Nothing to do with fitness or an ageing squad, just a total lack of commitment and desire.

Hodgson must take a fair share of the blame but the players (on huge wages) should not avoid a lot of the flak.

Javi Gracia

Hodgsons has to go now.I would love dyche but would be very difficult to get before the end of season. Gracia would be a great move. He did a great job at watford and led them to a fa cup final. I personaly think he would be brilliant as a long term option for the club. Also if we get him now he would be able to evaluate our squad and know what he needs for next season. The players that want to stay will work there backsides of to give a good impression which could help carry us over the line. Would anyone else take him?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Vill 2-0 Palace

Well, even by some post-Restart displays that was sheer crap from us. Wow.

Villa were lucky with the early VAR call - didn't even look like his shoulder - more like his back. It then seemed most of the XI took that as the moment to go "**** it, we have tried enough today" and start to contemplate their summer hol destinations.

Guiata 7 - Did nowt wrong. My heart breaks for him each time he collects the ball then looks to begin a quick counter attack only for him to sigh then frown then hold on to the ball for 15 seconds before hoofing the ball towards hyperspace. Was good aerially today.

Ward 4 - Just send him holiday now. Play Lewington at RB for all I care. He is an injury waiting to happen and it isn't his fault. He will have tricky challenges whichever winger Wolves, Wankers and Spurs put out against him.

Sakho 6 - Can be excused I think but hardly a commanding performance. None of the grit we rememeber about him from yesterday.

Dann 7 - Did the best job of caring today alongside perhaps Benteke on the trying stakes.

PVA 5 - Has patches of looking our most creative threat down that left flank with WIlf then patches of hitting the most half-arsed crosses, passes or free-kicks for a few minutes. At least he looks like he may net us a goal before Xmas. Was a bit lucky with the pen. Grealish was "clever" in a way and he came hurtling in like a steamtrain to that challenge.

McArthur 4 - Pooped. Poor display just off the pace, so off the pace. Such a shame, even Mr. Reliable is now in terrible form.

Kouyate 4 - Only noticed he was playing when he conceeded the free-kick for their goal, the first time I'd spotted him since just after kick-off.

Luka - 1 - About 5mins in spray two good floated passes in quick succession, one towards each flank. Other than that it would have been a 0. No leadership, well off the pace. He finds a way to piss me off more each week, much like the team he leads.

Zaha - 4 - Is it him, or is it the team that have just lost any cohesion? Never the correct weight or pass, never the right call to look for the foul or just get on with it. So, so easily rattled. It was a league one performance from Villa really. He wouldn't have been picked up by Coventry on that display.

Ayew - 4 - Needs a breather, will be leading the line vs. Man U - lets see how he gets on having been given little time off at the end of that game.

Benteke - 5 Not that bad, stupid to be sent off, annoying he didn't listen to Dann's shout. I still want him replaced in the summer. He is surrounded by a woeful other 9 outfield played in the same kit as him but he hasn't shown enough to make me feel he can play for a midtable Premier League outfit for a long time to me. That is the bulk of it.

McCarthy - 4 - Nothing of note, good or bad. As per.
Townsend - 6 - Starting to impress again in these cameos, looking quite tough in the tackle too.
Rieldweld - 5 - nothing notable.
Meyer - 5 - Turned the tempo up after he came on. STILL undecided about him myself tbh. We need a Puncheon type figure of the bench to not only dictate the last third of a match but stick the ball in the net, or tee someone up.

Typical Palace...

5 games ago we we're getting excited about the prospect of European football. In Roy we trusted.

5 straight losses and we are lucky to not be relegated and people want a new coach and a squad overhaul.

What I dont understand from you all is - what did we actually expect ?

Look at our finances - we are not a top half team.
Look at our depth. - we are not a top half team.

You got the big 6. Liecester, Wolves, Newcastle, everton and West ham. 11 clubs with money. To finish better than 11 in theory is our best case. Bottom 9 is a realistic finish

Our mission is to SURVIVE. With many sustained years in EPL we get better exposure, finances improve, more support etc.

Roy is a perfect manager who will deal with the cards that he has been given and makes sure we don't get relegated. NOTHING MORE. So let's not have a go at him. He did his job.

if palace want to splash the cash and overhaul the team next season - go get a new manager but I highly doubt this will happen

If they want to buy 1 or 2 players to replace the ones who leave. Stick with Roy and let's face another relegation battle.

Anyway I am not from England so maybe I'm out of touch here. I get the frustration but I also think we are sitting exactly where we expected from the beginning of the season

Making use of squad

Leading in to the post lockdown fixtures , RH said with so many games in quick succession we are going to have to utilize our squad and youngsters will be given chance . Just do not understand why he has not at least made more use of Townsend . Riedawald , McCarthy and Meyer . If the players are that fatigued why not freshen starting 11 .
RH obviously does not rate the youngsters but it appears he is not keen on Meyer or Riedawald .

Next manager discussion (summer 2020)

It’s becoming clear after 5 straight defeats and probably 8 by the time the season ends it’s time for a freshen up and a change.

Roy has done a tremendous job but it’s not working anymore so we must look forward and thank him for his time and achievements.

Who’s (realistically) next for you?

could we train without the ball?

Have you ever seen a group of players more devoid of any ability when they actually have to kick the football, you know, the bit when you use your foot to move the ball - the reason it isn't just jogging on grass for 90 minutes.

Does Roy have any interest in the actual ball related activities involved in football? These include:
- passing (kicking the ball to one of your team mates)
- crossing (moving the ball from the wing into the area to create a chance)
- shooting (trying to score a goal*)
- dribbling (moving the ball with your feet)

We continue to invest x3 players in the task of keeping our shape. 3 defensive midfield players, who are incapable of moving the ball around quickly or creatively. They actually inflict more damage by returning the ball back to our opponents (Luka).

Are Crystal Palace just a shape not a team?

When Guita collects the ball he seems drilled to just roll it to a defender who is stood 5 yards away, that player then stands still and puts a pass out wide, the ball comes back, we get closed down and lump it long. What is the point?

We get a free kick on the sideline with 1 minute to go, chasing a game, we turn back and pass it 3 yards, the ball then comes back to the taker, he steps forward by 1 yard and crosses it - what is the point?

We jog forward a few yards, stop, put our foot on the ball, look left, look right, then turn around and pass it backwards, before trotting off slowly into no space. What is the point?

Fed up with our team being set up to do nothing engaged with actually taking control of a game, or trying to damage teams with pace and counter attacks - we play "football" that has nothing to do with feet hitting a ball. We have no spark and no sense of unpredictability, spontaneity or flair. We do not need the ball to play like Crystal Palace and that is a painful identity to have.

It is dross.

Fewest goals in the league, apart from Norwich. Fewest goals at home.

goal = these are the things you need to win a game, more goals for your team means you win.

What is the point in Palace at the moment?

This isn’t a knee jerk thread, it is a point that quite a few have mentioned but not as a thread. I like football but I love Palace, season ticket holder for as long as I can remember followed Palace since the late 70’s. Yes we have have dire seasons but I can remember being as depressed as I have by our performances. Even through the poor performances I have still turned up to the games with that hope that this will be the game that we start to turn things around, but it just doesn’t happen. Our game plan is defend well and hope Wilf can do something, it is so poor, no ambition. If we lose we lose, but let’s show a bit of fight. It looks like the players show up to the games as complete strangers.
We had a run just before x-mas but let’s be honest the performances weren’t great. Rescued by Schlupp, Ayew and Zaha in that run.
We have players who are just not there, no passion, no skill and it almost seems a complete lack of direction. They can’t even do the simple things. This was a season when an average mid table team could end up in Europe and even playing as poor as we have we were one of those teams but the players were just not up for it. You have to ask why.
There will be people who will say that the games we have played have been against top teams, but a few years ago we had a horrendous run in and managed to pick up quite a few points.
I am just wondering what is the point at the moment.
Saying that I will still buy my season ticket when I can but I am going to have to go to the games for some other reason than to see people play football.

DAB+ radios

samedi 11 juillet 2020

A few months ago, I bought a new DAB radio from Tesco. This model ...

When I first got it, I could get Talksport and Talksport 2. But now I can only get Talksport, not 2. It's a similar thing with Talkradio. I've re-scanned endlessly, but Talksport 2 and Talkradio just don't appear. (I use Talksport 2 to listen to some football commentaries, which aren't available elsewhere.)

Just reading through this page on the Talksport site

To view the link you have to Register or Login

... it looks as though it's related to DAB+, as I think Talksport 2 and Talkradio are now on DAB+. The page says: "Most modern DAB radios can receive DAB+ so your ability to listen to talkSPORT 2 shouldn’t have been affected."

I'm pretty convinced that my Tesco DAB radio doesn't work with DAB+.

Looking at John Lewis own brand DAB radios, this one does DAB+ and looks quite good, so I guess I will end up having to fork out for something like this if I want to get DAB+ ...

I suppose the benefit would be that DAB+ is supposed to give better sound as well as more stations.

Anyone else had experience with this sort of thing?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Title being ironic of course...pretty sure most (if not all) of us have gay friends and gay colleagues and none of us care a jot. Pretty sure most clubs also have gay members of staff on the non-playing side. So why is this still an issue in football? Would this person actually not be picked, or be signed, or be shunned by his teammates if he came out? In pretty much any other walk of life I’d say no (perhaps naively), so why football?

Far Cry 6

The Playstation Store in Hong Kong To view the link you have to Register or Login is scheduled for release next year. It will be released on PS4 (and I assume Xbox and PC), with a free upgrade to the PS5 version. The story centers around a Latin/South American country ruled by a dictator who I assume will get his comeuppance via the user-controlled character. Ubisoft plans to reveal more details this weekend.

Rumour: Alex Bass

Apparently launched a 'surprise bid to land Pompey keeper Alex Bass' according to twitter. 22 years old and PompeyPedro would drive him here himself for £100 a packet of gruit gums. Sounds positive.

Rumour: Alex Bass

He is 22 years old, and broke into their team this season, winning the League One Player of the Month award in February.

Who will be on their way I wonder?

2020/21 to start on Sep 12th?

According to BBC (To view the link you have to Register or Login) 12 September is the most expected start date for next season.

Any PL side getting to Europa League of Champions League final would have just 3 weeks between that and the start of the season.

For Palace it would give us a 7 week break.

3 weeks off and back in for a 4 week pre-season?

Discussion: Rhian Brewster

mercredi 8 juillet 2020

Noticed he has scored 8 goals in 16 since joining Swansea on loan from Liverpool . Admittedly only Championship , but still impressive return . I would imagine Liverpool will want him out on loan again next season but would want guarantee that he will play regularly , not seen enough of him to comment if he is good enough for Premier .

Suggested Team and Formation For: Aston Villa (away)

-----------------Guaita----------------------
Ward-----Dann--------Sakho(c)-------PVA
-----Kouyate---McCarthy----McArthur----
------Zaha------Benteke-------Ayew------

Desperate times call for 'The Soldier' to lead us out of the trenches. Let's freshen up midfield and see if we can improve the corners at the same time. COYP.

Rumour: Steve mounie

Now I know most of these links usually go no where but this is getting silly now ..... Crystal Palace are lining up a move for Huddersfield Town stiker Steve Mounie as a replacement for Alexander Sorloth who is currently out on loan at Trabzonspor.

With Huddersfield also keen to move on the 25 year old. [Sport Witness]

Rank our centre backs from most to least essential

mardi 7 juillet 2020

One, two, if not three will probably be moved on in the near future. Centre backs can play for a long time, but for the long term security of our squad a bit of youth would be nice. So taking wages, ages, injuries, ability, everything into account, who is the most and least important to keep hold of?

For me, from most sensible to keep to most sensible to move on:
Tomkins
Kelly
Dann
Cahill
Sakho

Player Ratings And Reviews: Chelsea (home)

Guaita 7 Some top saves, handling much better. Good response

PVA 8 I thought he was fantastic going forward, so much class. He needs to come forward in other games more often
Sakho 7 fantastic distribution as well as decent defending.
Dann 7 Solid and unlucky to hit the post
Ward 7 Solid and not supported when the ball was at his feet - scary when we know he is limited on the ball

McArthur 6 Usual huff and puff with limited quality
Milivojevic 4 Just a complete passenger at the moment
Kouyate 8 MOM ran the midfield with physicality, pace and effort. Well done CK

Zaha 6 Bonus point for a great strike but for 85 minutes he looked average. Came to life at the end
Benteke 8 Bullied their centre backs. So pleased he scored. Hope it is the start of something, we are a much better side with him in it.
Ayew 6 worked hard but nothing came off

Subs:

Townsend 6 tried to inject some quality that we know he has
McCarthy 6 a couple of decent tackles.

Unlucky to lose Cahill and the goal so early on. We dominated midfield, just shows that experience and physical presence counts. Just a shame we are limited in talent but a much better performance. We are not as far away from being a good side as some people may think. But whether we can identify and recruit the young talent we need will determine our level of success. There's room in our side for a RLC or a Hudson-Odoi or another similarly talented youngster. They'd play regular football here. We could slot a couple of them straight in and improve massively. The point is we have the experienced honest pros around them to deliver points on a consistent basis if we had them but we don't. That's the harsh reality. Massive summer coming up.

Saudis and Yemen conflict ,,,,again

Got to keep the UK economy going, eh ? at any price, or cost ?

[Link]

"The UK is to resume arms sales to Saudi Arabia despite concerns they could be used against civilians in Yemen, in violation of international humanitarian law.

Sales were suspended last year after a legal challenge by campaigners.

A subsequent review found "isolated incidents" of possible violations but no pattern of non-compliance and "no clear risk" of future serious breaches.

The Campaign Against the Arms Trade said it was a "morally bankrupt" move."

(BBC website 7/7/20)

At least British workers are employed in the arms industry and the burden of 'foreign aid' is reduced by these killings abroad.

Have I go tthis right ?

Suggestion: Fikayo Tomori

Rumours are that he’ll look to leave Chelsea in search of more first team football should they sign Rice to play at centre half.

Would be great alongside Cahill as an apprentice, then sign him permanently to inject some youth into the defence as a starter.

A man can dream, can’t he?

Rumour: Luke Woolfenden and Flynn Downes

An Ipswich site (I know) has said that Dougie has been scouting centre half Luke Woolfenden and midfielder Flynn Downes of late.

I don't know much about Downes, but have seen Woolfenden's name touted around as a very good young player. A 21 year old, 6'4 centre half. Downes is a central midfielder, apparently.

Just to try something different:

--------------------Guaita--------------------

-------Dann-------Cahill-------Sakho--------

Townsend-----------------------van Aanholt

-----McArthur-----Meyer-----Milivojević-----

------------Ayew------------Zaha------------

Subs: Hennessey, Ward, Mitchell, Woods, Kouyaté, McCarthy, Riedewald, Pierrick & Benteke

Suggestion: Scouting idea

Hardly a "Moneyball" idea but why not look at players who have won Player of the year" for their respective teams across England, Europe, even worldwide, create a shortlist and offer them a chance to play for an established team in the best league in the world in the best city. I can't see how difficult that is.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Leicester (away)

No MOM thread (hardly surprising) but here's my twopennyworth;

Dreadful performance, worst of the season (i.e. both parts) IMO.

VG - 4- Whats happening Vincente ?
JW - 4 - looked very tired and off the pace
GC - 5 - only one that looked half interested
MS - 4 - there's always a goal in him, every game - for the opposition
PVA - 4- a few forages forward but it just wasn't clicking with whoever he tried to combine with.
Jimmy Mac - 4 -see JW
LM - 4 - awful - I'd honestly forgotten he was playing at one point
JR - 6 - why on earth was he the first one sacrificed ? For goodness sake try and give the lad some confidence. He wasn't letting us down and showed some lovely touches - more than any of the others out there.
JA - 5 - yes he holds the ball up well but he also slows the pace of our attacks so much.
WZ - 4 - dreadful. Doesn't deserve his wages.
CB - 6 - Tried his best , but with no support and no decent cross's what on earth is he supposed to do ?

CK - did he touch the ball...? awful decision Roy.
James Mc - got a few tackles in but it was a lost cause by then.
TM - bless...feel sorry for him, coming on with that sorry bunch.

Roy - lost the plot today I'm afraid. And I hope he gave the players some stick.

Rumour: Conor Gallagher

samedi 4 juillet 2020

CRYSTAL PALACE are ready to bid £10million for Chelsea’s midfield dynamo Conor Gallagher.

Manager Roy Hodgson sees the 20-year-old as an ideal prospect as he tries to strengthen his squad.

He hopes Blues boss Frank Lampard will allow Gallagher to leave permanently after loan spells at Charlton and Swansea this season.

Gallagher — who has two years to run on his Stamford Bridge deal — has shown his potential at Championship level with his strong running and goal threat.

He has represented England at all levels from Under-17 to Under-21.

Gallagher is a Chelsea academy graduate but Lampard already has a good choice of midfielders.

Palace are keen to take him either as a buy or loan.

Stamford Bridge has been a happy hunting ground for the Eagles with Gary Cahill a recent addition and Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Michy Batshuayi both coming to Selhurst Park on loan.

Hodgson has been moaning about a lack of options in his tight squad and Gallagher would have a far better hope of playing for him than he has at Chelsea.

Palace have money to spend and would fork out about £10m if they get the nod.

Football team not very good at licking the football

*licking or kicking

I'm drunk

A team that can keep a shape but can't kick the ball to each other at a speed greater than a really slow slug, can't come up with any ideas to get the ball in the opposition's goal, love to turn around and pass backwards and generally look worried in possession.

Great we will survive, but this squad is on borrowed time.
