Frank Lampard confirmed Olivier Giroud could leave Chelsea in January

Lampard’s young side have struggled in recent weeks, winning just four of their last 11 fixtures in all competitions and losing to struggling West Ham, Everton, Bournemouth, and Southampton.

The poor run has convinced Chelsea they need to splash the cash this month and, according to the Daily Express, Lampard has identified Barbosa as his ‘priority’ signing for January.

Inter Milan have joined the race to sign Olivier Giroud after manager Frank Lampard confirmed he could leave Chelsea this month.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also keen on signing the France striker on loan during the January transfer window.

The Frenchman has had a frustrating season so far at Chelsea, with Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi ahead of him in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

He has only featured seven times for the Blues in all competitions so far this season and was an unused substitute as Chelsea defeated Nottingham Forest 2-0 in the third round of the FA Cup, casting more doubt over his future in west London.

The 33-year-old is out of contract in the summer and he is keen to leave the Blues due to his lack of game time as he wants to make a bid for the France squad that will play at Euro 2020.

Giroud scored five goals under Conte during the second half of the 2017-18 season, with Chelsea finishing fifth in the Premier League and winning the FA Cup.

Barbosa:lux:, who has been given the nickname of Gabigol, is enjoying a sensational season on loan at Flamengo, scoring 25 goals in 29 league games for the Brazilian club.

A prolific goalscorer, Barbosa is said to be seen as the perfect player to reduce the pressure on current Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

Abraham has largely impressed in his first full season in the Premier League – netting 15 goals – but at 22 will need support to get through the rest of the campaign.

The Daily Express says Chelsea is considering using out-of-favor forward Olivier Giroud as bait in a deal to bring Barbosa to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard’s side is currently fourth in the Premier League.
