Discussion: 2019/20 Season Decisions

dimanche 3 mars 2019

As we are getting ever closer to being confident of staying up (never 100% until the maths are there), it’s interesting to look at the decisions for the staff.

Loans - do we want to try and get Ayew & Batyshuai on permanent? Is Perri looking good to convert to permanent?

Ayew I suspect not. Bats, bit early yet and his agent was talking ludicrous wages in January but a season loan could be an option? No idea on Perri but the club seemed to be viewing it as a prelude to permanent when he arrived.

Contracts - Speroni, Sako, Innis, Souare, Puncheon out of contract

Would be amazed if any got new deals.

Assets - will we sell Mama, Wilf, AWB to free up wages, raise funds?

SPs track record suggests we won’t unless any of them really push for it and we could get top dollar. The three combined would probably raise well over £100m and Wilf & Mama are both over £100k pow, which does raise the question however.

Strikers - CB and CW will both be in the last year of their contracts, Sorloth seems to be scoring regularly in Belgium.

Do we go for a total change up front and try and raise funds with 1, 2 or 3 of them? I would hope 2 stay and a new, smaller more mobile striker may come in, regardless of what happens with Bats.

Buys

Defence needs a second LB - Sessegnon for me

Central Midfield - probably one, younger addition, plus a decision on Jairo’s future

Wide Midfield - at least one addition

Strikers - see above

So much depends on what we do with those three key assets I suspect.

Personally I would also like to see someone like Steven Reid come in alongside RH, and be earmarked as his successor.
