Just in case. Happy birthday mate.

The Great Leasehold Con

Does anyone have any experience of being a leaseholder and either going to self management or appointing a new managed agent? If so, any advice would be much appreciated as to process, cost, is it worth it etc

Ta v much.

Is it time to ditch the stripes?

It sounds crazy to even consider it and I know it's almost tantamount to blasphemy, but is it time that we considered ditching the red n blue stripes as our first team kit?

I've not done full research on it but there must be something in the region of 20-25% of football league teams across the divisions that play in stripes. Yet the last team to win the top league title in stripes was Sunderland in 1935-36.

Today's game is far quicker than 20, 30 or 50 years ago and peripheral vision is a key factor in passing accuracy. Just maybe, stripes are less easy to pick out.

Is it a coincidence that we perform better away from Selhurst when we are often not in stripes due to colour clashes?

I'd be prepared to accept the late 70s sash kit as a first team kit and we must retain red and blue. But how important are the stripes and how much might they be holding us back?

If anyone wants to set up a poll, please feel free to do so.

Manchester bars/clubs tips...

Can anyone suggest any bars or clubs in Manchester that would be tolerant of a large group (10+) of blokes (and one girl)?

Cheers

Harry Kane Golden Boy

I watched MOTD last night and the incident where Kane made that 'deliberate movement with his head' toward Azpilicueta. To his credit Azpilicueta didn't immediately hit the deck like he had been hit by George Foreman. But......am I the only one thinking why was no action taken? No retrograde action is to be taken 'because the officials saw it'. Preferential treatment for Kane?

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

LOST WALLET AT MAN UTD. GAME

Hi,
Just posting on the off chance that someone may have found a dark grey, zipped wallet after last nights match.
I sit in the Arthur, Y, row 20, to the left of the aisle.
Many thanks

Which midfield would you prefer to see

So we are back to a 3 man midfield and Wilf and Andros wide of a central striker, the 4-4-2 seems to be gone.

So what would be your preferred midfield given Luka as captain is a certainty.

Have given the options of what he has been starting with and what many suggest is our best midfield but also an 'other' option.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Burnley (a)

mercredi 27 février 2019

About time we played our best 11 (subject to injury)

Guaita

Awb Tomkins kelly pva

Luka kouyate

Townsend Meyer zaha

Batshuayi

Subs
Hennessey
Ward
Dann
McArthur
Schlupp
Benteke
Ayew

Roy start Max over James!

Max is far superior!

Player Ratings And Reviews: Man Utd

Hodgson at fault for that result really. We must have knew how we were gonna play so first half we play long ball and lump it to Batshuayi against defenders who towered over him let alone Pogba and McTominay. Then we bring Benteke on second half when we’re now playing football because Meyer is on. Didn’t understand it. Personally think Dann should be starting ahead of Kelly. He may be slower but he’s far better in the air and with the ball at feet. Meyer just makes us tick, crazy how under used he is. Hodgson shouldn’t be worried about physicality if he has Milivojevic and Kouyate next to him, tough though as Schlupp looks our best player right now. Drop van Aanholt for him!

I ******* hate that club

Arthur Wait at breaking point

Cannot continue like it is.

The club have got the limit the amount of tickets they are selling in the stand to stop the insanely awful crush at halftime and before the game.

It's getting worse every week and tonight was awful

I don't expect much but it's absolutely horrendous now. It's dangerous and just unfair to charge for tickets when you have to queue for all of half time just to try and get into a toilet, when you then have to queue more.

Multi room speakers

Anyone know anything about multi room speakers?

Ideally I'd like something to stream music over a few different rooms, the ability to play different things in different rooms if wanted. Good sound quality. Play from apple music / Spotify (and as many other sources as possible).

What I don't want is a alexa type smart speaker which will listen in on everything I do, that shit creeps me out.

Also, can't afford Sonos :(

Who was the first Palace player younger than you?

You know once and for all you'll never play for Palace when players younger than you break into the team. Who was "the one" for you?

I don't know if this is easy to look up, but I think I can say with some certainty that mine is John Bostock, who made his debut when he was 15 years 287 days and I was 15 years 318 days old... :hmph:

Kicking off in the Kashmir

These 2 are at each others throats again. India striking terrorists camps and Pakistan shooting down Indian planes and dropping bombs on India.

A bit unnerving as they like a war over the Kashmir and both have nukes.

Will it spread to Uxbridge or even my street.

FA Cup vs Watford - Beamback?

With the much discussed ticket shortage, and large waiting list I wonder if the club would consider a beam back for this? I know it is on BT Sport, but some fans may want to watch it with like minded fans. I have added a poll to gauge interest.

MODS- Fell free to add poll options or merge as necessary

Gough = total t***

On TalkSh*te this morning trying to argue that our game tonight should be postponed on account of United having so many injuries because he "wants to see all these world-class stars playing".

I don't seem to remember him saying that when we had more men out than available.

Now I wonder if anyone here has ever heard such an utter load of bollocks because I'm struggling to remember when I have.

I mean FFS.

We will win today

mardi 26 février 2019

Just awoken from a dream in which Wilf was being chased by a Red Devil but a Bat swooped to save him ....

Got a feeling for us to win today !!!!!! Hitting form at the right time , lots of United injuries .

Today’s the day we beat them!!!!

Earthquake in Gatwick area today

Am working my nights and was having a lie down on the sofa during a break when the sofa started to shake around 0345! I thought I was dreaming as I was dozing off. Weird experience and quite disorientating. Anyone else experienced an earthquake?

Full League Tables

Whatever happened to these?

All newspapers (pre-internet) printed the full league tables with full home and away records every week. This was very useful for assessing the next match.

I think that this would be very useful now with the fantasy leagues and betting that is so prevalent.

I can't find them anywhere and would really like to study the current ones, especially when you consider Palace's home and away form this season. Does anyone know where they can be viewed online?

Palace are 9th in the current form table whilst Brighton are rock bottom in 20th place.

How long can Brighton keep up this superb run of relegation form since they beat Palace in early December.

Mamadou Sakho set to miss rest of season with knee injury

Crystal Palace are braced to be without Mamadou Sakho for the rest of the season after he suffered a serious knee injury during Saturday’s victory at Leicester City.

Tests have been conducted on the France defender to determine the extent of the damage sustained at the King Power Stadium, with the player now resigned to undergoing an operation. The centre-half’s right leg gave way as he passed the ball forward 15 minutes from time under slight pressure from Jamie Vardy and, while the 29-year-old was able to walk off gingerly, he was in clear discomfort as he was assisted to the dressing room by two members of the medical staff .

It's a "funny old game"... I mean the points system.

I am currently placing all possible purchases on my youngest son's season ticket in order to try as hard as possible to bring him up to speed (the gap is so big it feels like he never will mind). In the meantime hoping the 6 or 7 aways my other son and I attend currently are enough without purchases to keep pace.

I think the system needs tweaking to be honest. Old points need to start getting knocked off and attending actual games needs to have more points allocated to it, perhaps 40 and 80 as opposed to 20 and 40. In order to give Consideration to the levels of points alcohol drinkers, lucky enough to have pre match lounge/bar access can hoover up.

Reasons people give to support the wankers

All my family are from Manchester. Except there not are they.

Mike Dean off duty

Its not often I or many other people here speak up for a referee But that it is what I am about to do.

As you are aware Mr Dean refereed Burnley v Spurs on Saturday and erroneously gave a corner against Spurs that led to a corner that led to a goal.

My feelings om seeing this were

! There were about 3 close quarters richochets involved,

2 was this not the Assistants initial call?

3 It took the one of many cameras in the ground trained at the perfect angle to establish the truth (would have been a perfect one for VAR)

4 due to awful Spurs defending and a good header bu Burnley this had finished in the Spurs net. Would there be a discussion otherwise on the merits of the decision

5 When I think of all the incompetences weve seen perpetrated by refs this season this one was way short of the worst.

6 Putting aside general antipathies towards refs that have been expressd on these boards I reckon Dean is far more reliable and less easily swayed than most and this suspension seans to owe much to big club influence than egregious error by the ref . You have to ask whether us, or Burnley for that matter could have got a ref suspended in the same circumstances. We would have fumed, put it down to experience and moved on i reckon. As I said in 4 Spurs failed to defend the corner

I thinjk a terrible precedent has been set. THE PL wouldnt have enough refs left if they suspend them all for calls like this

Song for Batshuayi

can anyone think of a song for michy i thought something to the tune of la bamba:
Michy batshuayi
Michy batshuayi
Michy batshuayi

.....
or rhythms a dancer
rhythms a dancer
batshuayis the answer
he will score anywhere
(however i’ve heard that this is already sung for schlupp).

First game for 10 year old.

First a little back story. My brother is an arsenal supporter but despite his best efforts of brainwashing and bribery I have convinced his 10 year old son that palace is the team to support.(never underestimate the power of the palace). I have taken him to a Basingstoke game and now he wants to go to a Palace game. I am going to try to get tickets to the huddlesfield game. Where would you say would be the best place to sit so he has a good view and can get the most of the Palace experience. I will say he has very slight aspergers.

Meyer v Schlupp

Schlupp all running tough tackling full effort

Meyer holds and shields the ball with accurate pass release

It's Meyer for me, mainly for his ability to be able to offer Wilf support in the last third

A positive goal difference, can we do it?!

If we finished the season with a positive goal difference I would be so happy. Can we do it, what do you think??? :lux:

How to save messages when changing phones?

I have an old fashioned phone Alcatel One touch and am in the process of moving over to an iPhone5s. The iPhone has a new sim and am going to keep and transfer my phone number from the Alcatel to it but am concerned I will lose the messages I want to keep when I do the transfer in a couple of days.

Help, please. Thanks.

Suggested Team and Formation For: vs. Manchester United - 27th Feb.

As we were vs. Leicester City please. Possible Dann in for Sakho swap depending on if Sakho is fit or not.

The injuries are mounting up for United - Herrera has just gone off, Rashford is limping, Lingard was only on the bench but looks like he might have to come on for him now. Mata and Lindelof struggling too, plus no Martial.

How bad is Hartson?

samedi 23 février 2019

BT sports actually employ this idiot as a co commentator.....'of course Palace are without their first choice centre half, Kelly' and 'its strange how Leicesters stadium gets a lot louder AFTER Leicester score'...he actually said both of those and others during the game....really, is there a stadium where it gets quieter after the home team score? The bloke should be nowhere near a commentating job...

Bri**ton game in Singapore

Hi,

Is there a regular venue in Singapore where Palace fans congregate to watch live TV games, please?

Are Sakho and Tomkins the best CB partnership ever.

I have seen many centre back partnerships over the years. Sakho and Tomkins are the bedrock of the current team and defensively are excellent. The only pairing that were as good in my view were Thorn and Young all those years ago.
Anyone think of a better pairing?

Song for weed

It's starting to look like a win over Bright*n on the 9th would put us very close to safety and leave them right in Diarrhea Mode.

Hopefully, it will be a great opportunity to crow and I think we should try to come up with some songs to sing on the day. How's this;

( To the tune of 'Daydream Believer' ( love the double irony ) By The Monkees )

'Cheer up Tony B,
Oh what can it mean,
to spunk two hundred million
on a crap football team?'

Let's come up with many more for the Shitgulls.

Any suggestions from the Spanish contingent please? Annoyingly the flight leaves at 910pm and the rugby starts at 545pm so will need to be somewhere close to the airport or we'll miss the 2nd half.

So Harry Arter claps the referee today. What are the chances of him receiving any punishment? Won’t hold my breath...

Sad Palace Bastards - post below

(I love doing this)

Jussie Smollett hate crime hoax

Pretty bizarre story to come out of the States even by their standards.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Three weeks ago this famous singer and actor claimed he’d been the victim of a homophobic and racist assault. Today it’s turned out he staged the whole event. Said two white men hurled racist and homophobic insults at him when he went out late at night to buy food from a Subway, then they punched him, poured a chemical substance over him and put a rope around his neck.

Also claimed the men said "this is Maga country" during the assault, a reference to President Donald Trump's campaign slogan, "Make America Great Again".

Hired a couple of guys to pull the whole hoax off. Police saying he also sent a hate letter to himself and that it was motivated by him trying to raise his career profile and earn a bigger salary. What a bizarre thing to do.

1969 Promotion run in from 22nd feb 1969

50 years ago today Palace embarked on a 16 match unbeaten run which earned Promotion to the first (top) division for the first time in our history.

After almost a months break caused by bad weather (snow and ice) we faced Hull City at a fast changing Selhurst Park. A 2-0 victory with a goal from Mark Lazurus and a rare strike from Big John McCormick gave us a comfortable win.

Palace were mid table but with games in hand, Derby were top and on their way to the championship under Brian Clough, Cardiff second, with Millwall, Charlton, Birmingham, Middleborough all in the mix for the second spot which would secure promotion. Just two teams promoted and no play offs back then.

Bert Head had set the team a target of 26 points from our remaining 16 games (only 2 points for a win in those days) We had to play two games a week to finish the season on time and catch up with the backlog.

I don't recall a great deal from that game it was strange being back in the match day routine after a month without football. I was glad I had my army issue Parker from the local Army Surplus store to keep me warm, it was a very cold day.

The Arthur Wait stand was rising from the old Park Road terrace and the 1969 version of the Holmesdale singers moved on mass from the Holmesdale Terrace to under the superstructure of the new stand as the roof was now on (underneath was a mix of terrace and a building site) and at last we could really generate some noise from that match onwards.

I was in my tenth season of watching Palace and seen two promotions already as we clawed our way from the basement old 4th division to the top division in ten short years. Magic days.

Sheffield WWII US bomber crash memorial story

jeudi 21 février 2019

In a period of time where the news stories are so devisive, sad, etc, its lovely to see the BBC champion, and the rest of the world follow in their footsteps, the brave US crew who died crashing their burning plane into a Sheffield field avoiding scores of houses.

Tony, has been looking after the memorial of the 10 US airman in the park ever since until Dan Walker was walking his dog in the park and talked to him discovering the story.

Today there is a large fly past from the US military in remembrance of the 10.

Peter Took RIP

For those of us that remember when Saturday morning was a big thing, this is very sad news RIP Peter and thanks for the songs and laughs

Drag Queen Story Hour

A new thing that is gaining popularity in the US (and over here, they are doing it in Clapham, Brixton and West Norwood) - drag queens read stories to kids in libraries. Seems like a bit of fun.

Seems to be kicking off in America though, armed police guarding the libraries, big protests, threats of violence etc

Would you take your kids to drag queen story hour? I would definitely give it a go I think.

County Cricket 2019

Just a few weeks to go now.

Surrey to rip the Championship up again, right?

Kent to finish bottom having had their bums spanked every week, yep?

Away you go. Have a good summer of willow against leather, everyone.

Just a shame that the ECB have titted up the fixtures so badly that there is barely any red ball cricket being played at weekends.

Discussion: Christian Kiuamé

Probably more nonsense, but there is a report from the Italian Calcio Mercato site that Palace are looking at Genoa forward, Kouamé, 21, only appears to be breaking through this season at Genoa after spells at lower league Italian clubs.

Would be fun to see the obvious confusion that will occur with Benteke and Kouayate and is also born in Ivory Coast, though not apparently capped at International level yet.

Phil Alexander Palace CEO To Give CPFC Representation On The PGB Board

He should have a word about the way that Palace are getting a raw deal from some officials and how some of our players are treated by them and some of the media.

Hopefully his views on these matters will carry some clout due to his position on the board.

Sky Fibre/BT Mastersocket Problem

Hi All. I hope this all going to make sense!

I moved house 2 months ago and got Sky Fibre. The Master socket is right by my front door, which is absolutely useless.
The Sky Hub they give is next to useless. In the room where the Router is, I’m getting about 40mbs on average. Once I’m out the room it’s about half that (at best).

My TV and Playstation are in the corner of the front room, so get a pathetic signal making streaming or playing games a bit of a nightmare. And obviously don't want to be running cables through the hallway just to maximise their potential.

There is an extended phone cable, that can go from the master socket, to the front room, which runs outside (something like this To view the link you have to Register or Login) . The problem I have, is that the router/modem can’t work from this cable (assuming that the cable can’t carry the necessary data).

I’ve got Wifi Extenders, which aren’t really working (I think this is due to the Router being Dual Band). I’ve plugged in another Router, which is providing slightly better reach, but we are not getting the best out our internet whatsoever.

Is there anyway, that I can make this cable work with my Router, so I can have it in the front room? What other solutions do I have?

Other than spending the best part of 150 sheets on BT Moving the master socket.

I’ve tried to read a lot of forums. Some suggestions don’t work, and the others make zero sense at all!

Millwall vs Brighton - Yuck

Been mulling this one over and finding it difficult to stomach the thought of either of these getting to the Semi Final.

Everytime I think I've decided what would be the lesser evil I change my mind again!

So with a gun held to your head, who would it hurt less to see go through and who do you think will progress to foul up Wembley?

For me, head says Brighton will beat Millwall but I just think it would make me that much more sick if we did get through and lose out to them either for a place or actually in the final (most likely the former)... I can't see that with Millwall.

Quarter-finals: Guaita or Hennessey?

In Roy's interviews after the Donny game he claimed Hennessey had a good game (wtf) and seemed to suggest he intends to play him in the next round.

For me we need to go 100% full strength regardless of who we draw. There is a place at Wembley at stake and a good goalkeeper could make all the difference.

Does Wayne deserve another shot after his clean sheet, or would you bring Guaita back in?

Palace Heroes

dimanche 17 février 2019

I've just been rewatching the FA Cup run of 2016 and the play off win.

So who makes your list of Palace heroes from your generation?

I will kick off with a couple of obvious ones from very recent times. Add yours some that perhaps wouldn't be obvious in a golden generation but have been so important in recent times some obvious and some less so.

Speroni - needs no explanation

Joel Ward - absolute class, promotion season, several PL years and FA Cup... Not forgetting last minute clearence off the line I in the PO final itself.

Your turn...

Palace Cup run checklist (2019 updated version)

So here we go. The template is well established.

Looking like we're going all the way to final once again, folks

Team from northern craphole
1990 - Rochdale
2016 - Stoke
2019 - Grimsby

Team finishing in top 3
1990 - Liverpool
2016 - Spurs
2019 - Spurs (likely top three at this stage)

Away win v lower division team
1990 - Cambridge
2016 - Reading
2019 - Doncaster

Team from south coast
1990 - Pompey
2016 - Southampton
2019 - (The Seaweed are ours for the taking)

Team whose name ends with D
1990 - Huddersfield
2016 - Watford
2019 - (Watford still sitting there - shame Brentford not still in it!)

United in the final
1990
2016
2019?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Benteke & Batman Up Front

It’s so obvious! playing either Benteke or Batman up front on their own is NOT working.

They need to have another striker next to them in a 4-4-2 formation IMO.

Why did Hodgson not play them together against Donny today?

It’s driving me mad....anyone else agree?

Jeffrey Schlupp

Our second best performer all season after AWB.

Has been the most underrated player by some of our “fans” since we’ve been EPL.

Top, top player. With his value increasing every week, he really needs to be tied down to a new long term deal ASAP.

Free Sport/ Liga Nos

Occasionally enjoy watching Portuguese footy, but it disappeared from free sports schedule..

I'm assuming they've lost the rights, but a bit weird mid season?

What is Jeffrey's plan?

I hope it's to win the FA Cup myself

FA Cup Quarter Finals - who do you want?

1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

2 Millwall

3 Crystal Palace

4 Manchester City

5 Chelsea or Manchester United

6 Swansea City

7 Watford

8 Brighton and Hove Albion

Squad Players

I see so many players ( especially at big clubs ) that seem content to have bit part roles . Looking at our squad not sure that is the case , I feel some will be questioning their future at end of season as I suspect they want
more playing time at this stage in their career . Along with players we may not want , could we be having a major change in our squad soon ?

Speroni Retire ?
Ward Feel he will want to go with AWB clearly our no 1
Kelly Will he be content to play just a few games a season ?
Dann As above
Souare Will be released
Reidawald He knows he will not be a regular here
Meyer Hope he stays just have doubts
Sakho Rumours he would be open to a move
Sako Short term contract - will be released
Ayew Loan finishes
Benteke Feel we will try to sell but he may run down contract
Wickham We would sell - but would anyone buy - wages an issue
Zaha Crunch time
Hennessey Maybe he feels he can reclaim place
Batshuayi Loan finishes

Busy Summer ?

Doncaster Rovers Information

Hello everyone

First, can I introduce myself I am the Supporter Liaison Officer (SLO) at Doncaster Rovers. I am here just to post a quick message and some information regarding your visit to the Keepmoat Stadium.

On Sunday the Crystal Palace fans will be allocated our North Stand. I believe the coaches will be dropping fans off directly outside. The turnstiles will be open around 14:30 which food and drink available in the concourse. Outside the stadium, there will be some street food available, with Devon’s Kitchen serving Jamaican food.

Unfortunately, all Car Parks are fully booked. There are a small number of local businesses that often open up for people to park, but these are left at the owners' own risk. I would strongly advise fans not to park in the Lakeside Shopping Village. At around 6 pm they do lock the car park down and any cars that are left in will be locked in.

If you are travelling by train, exit the train station and walk to the top of the car park. Once you reach the main road turn right and cross over the first 3 roundabouts. As you drop down the hill and approached the 4th roundabout, turn left and follow the road and the stadium will then become visible. Alternatively, you can turn left out of the train station and into the bus station, there is a shuttle bus that makes regular visits to the stadium.

I have tried to attach our away fans guide that was produced by the club with information regarding the Keepmoat and the surrounding areas. However, I am struggling to upload it, if any of the admin staff can help I would appreciate it. In the meantime, if you wish to see the guide please drop me an email and I will happily forward it on to you.

If you have any questions then please leave a comment, my email address is dean.medcalf@clubdoncaster.co.uk or you can tweet me at @drfc_away.

Thank you for your time and I hope that you all have a safe journey.

Kind Regards
Dean Medcalf

PC / Gaming PC

My 12 year old son is wanting a PC for his birthday.

He says that it is to do general computing on - school homework/watching youtube/possibly editing youtube videos etc

He also wants to be able to play games on it - namely fortnite at the moment.

He is not an avid gamer or anything, mainly just plays with his mates on xbox.

Would a normal PC package (including monitor) in the <£500 bracket suffice for this or does he need something more powerful.

When people say gaming pcs, are these needed for fortnite type games or the more heavy duty ones?

Any help would be gratefully received.

How bad do you feel when Palace Loose

Being older now , at least I can get over a defeat without it ruining the day after the result. The one that still gets me is the gut feeling we’re not going to loose this one , my inner believer tells me it’s going to be a win my very sole tingles telling me it’s a no brainer. Then we loose. I guarantee the next morning my eyes open it’s the first thing that smacks me in the face , another day in misery. I know it makes winning away at Man City feel like every good day you have ever had, but this is Palace ,why can a football team rule my life. Anyone else on the same level or worse than my feelings or grammar ? .

On this day ...... Feb 14th 1976

Another year on .... 43 years ago ... where have the years gone??

No apologies for posting this one more time ......yes, it's that time of the year again ....

Forget Valentines day, I remember this date for one reason, and one reason only.

Stamford Bridge, FA Cup fifth round. Feb 14 1976.

Chelsea 2 Crystal Palace 3.

I was 15, my first exposure to football hooliganism first hand, and remember the whole day as if it was yesterday!!

From getting on the bus in the morning for the 2 hour journey, the intimidation queing to get in, Allison going to the Shed and doing "thumbs down, 3-0", going 2 nil up, horses on terraces, Peter Taylors winner, my Chelsea mates not waiting for me afterwards, the game on MOTD, coats for goalposts isnt it???

And for all you unluckly people who havent seen it yet ...

Watching Palace in Alicante / Benidorm

I'm in Cabo Roig (though possibly get into Alicante or Benidorm) for the Leicester game.

Does anyone know if its likely to be shown on TV and if so where would be a good place to head?

Appreciate it's out of the holiday season, and have no knowledge of how much of the Premier league is shown in Spain so any pointers would be much appreciated.

Discussion: the Brentford Way

Their recruitment strategy of buying cheap and selling high , centres on identifying out of favour players who fit their style of play , but most importantly have development potential.
To develop the players they use a variety of coaches along with analytical data. Individual coaching ; certain skills coaching - crossing , shooting , passing - they even use a sleep coach. Interesting approach utilising a variety of experts .

FA Cup @Donny

If there is anything any of the Palace supporters need to know about your visit to Donny then ask away . Pubs, Directions etc ?

Football shirt lettering / numbering help

Bit of a random thread. But my old Spain 2010 shirt was for some reason gathering damp mould, so I gave it a wash as per the label. Had this problem with a few old shirts where the printing particularly from that 2008 - 2011 period for Adidas seem to come away now. Anyway long story short most of the bloody lettering and numbers came away. So I have managed to get it all off now. But the shirt still has the DAVID VILLA name and number 7 outline in glue.

Does anyone have any ACTUAL methods to try and get rid of the glue outlines where the printing was so I can at least get the shirt back to looking vaguely plain and a decent condition please? :) I know its bit random but it is one of the favourites in my collection and I'd quite like it to at least be wearable again.

Cheers.

Any Palace fans in Lancashire?

Me and gf are looking at moving up to Lancashire in the next few months. Currently we live in Ipswich and we can basically sell our small flat here and buy a nice little house without having to have a mortgage there.

We have looked at Blackpool as it has the most houses in our budget. Before anyone calls it a shithole, i know there are some rough edges and Ipswich is hardly paradise!

Positives for us would be being able to get into Manchester, Liverpool, The Lake District within an hour and a half using the trains. London / Glasgow / Edinburgh are only 3 hours train as well. It would be nice to live by the sea and be financially much better off. Manchester airport under 2 hours train away.

We can also watch all the Palace away games up North which i assume are easier to get tickets to than the London away games.

Any opinions would be great, thanks :p

Toasters

I bought a new toaster for my digs, it has a bagel setting. Whats the difference between the bagel setting and the bread setting? Should I toast my crumpets on the bagel setting? I have never had a bagel.

The wifi in my digs is pretty hit and miss, so I am using a mobile wifi box that I bought for a recent holiday, it is fitted with a sim card from 3, for some reason, both the BBS and the official Palace sites seem to be blocked, it just goes to the boxes' log in page, they are the only pages I have found so far to be blocked*. Any ideas why?

Match Updates: Feb 12/13/14

It’s Champions League, Europa Cup and Championship football.

When the Champions League draw was made in mid December, it looked odds on Man U would fall to PSG. The very next day Jose was sacked and now you’d fancy United to win this tie.

Disastrous Dates

I can't believe this hasn't been done on here before, but - as proposed by El Aguila and seconded by Golf Boy - this is the thread to recount your dating disasters, whether single events or a sequence. And since I was asked to kick it off, I'll contribute a very tame one, which is all I can immediately remember after the passage of years:

Sitting at my office, minding my own business, one day the 'phone rang. On answering a female voice said that she was a work colleague of a female friend (who was renting a room at my home at the time) and would I like to go out for dinner one evening ? Reasoning that my friend was very unlikely to stitch me up, I accepted with all the coolness I could muster (probably not much). I quizzed my friend that evening, who was a little evasive, but assured me that my mysterious date was very attractive. Given that she sounded very up-market, I booked somewhere nice to go (the Criterion on Piccadilly Circus, if memory serves me correctly) and turned up bang on time. Initial impressions were good - she was very attractive and charming. However, the evening started to go downhill when I realised that she wasn't looking at her menu - when I asked why, she said that she suffered from food envy, so would just have what I was having. At this point, I must have sought confidence in couple of quick glasses because I then received a lecture on how she didn't drink - for the wholly-understandable reason, tbf, that both her parents were alcoholics. This left me in something of a quandary because I had already ordered a bottle of something nice and was of an age where I hated "wasting" drink on principle. I therefore tried to surreptitiously drink the entire bottle myself quickly to get it out of the way which, with hindsight, was the wrong thing to do, because not only was it probably more obvious to my companion than I fondly believed, but my fine sense of judgement may have become a little cloudy. Although I thought we were having a great time, my companion became more and more edgy, to the point that I realised she was actually rather odd (although my own behaviour was undoubtedly not helping). She also, clearly, did not like my food taste, which led me to, belatedly, fear that she may also have suffered from an eating disorder. My efforts to make light conversation were becoming more and more strained, and I soon abandoned my original idea to take her on to a second venue. Finally, as I walked her to a cab, more out of politeness than anything I asked her if she would like to meet up again, and was very firmly put back in my box.

My friend was very apologetic when I returned home, explaining that the girl had pestered her for my number despite having never met me. That was my first and only experience of a blind date.

Hopefully others can come up with more interesting revelations from their youth. For some reason, I am particularly fearful of contributions we may get from little Al & Stella ...

Suggestion: Kangin Lee (17-year old Valencia striker)

He is the wunderkind of Valencia, only 17, originally from South Korea though has been in Valencia's academy since he was 11.

He's not for sale (he has an €80m buy-out clause and has committed his future to Valencia) but he wants to play regular football and Valencia have suggested he could go on loan for a year next season to somewhere where he is guaranteed to get more minutes.

Valencia is my other team, and I do not want to see him leave. But if he goes anywhere on loan, I hope Palace might consider him. He's very good, but because Valencia have Cheryshev and Guedes playing in a similar role, he's not getting much first-team experience.

Pre Match Songs at Selhurst

Just a thought this season a few classics seem to have been dropped from the pre match playlist at Selhurst.

No Clash, no Jam etc.

The songs they play now don’t have the same buzz. Allot more modern music which doesn’t sound great imo.

Bread Making

Anyone else make their own bread at home, whether in a bread making machine or by their own fair hand?

I've started this weekend, made just a couple so far, a basic white loaf, followed by a half and half basic loaf last night using a bread maker.

The bread tastes so good and nothing like the mass produced stodgy loaves you buy in the supermarket. Make exceptional toast too.

I'm going to try some mixed grain and oatmeal loaves this weekend.

A quick note from the BBS Treasurer

Everyone

As you may have noticed the BBS is advert free to members, and subscription free. The only reason we have been able to operate like that is because of the unique way the BBS is funded, being the generous contributions of members to the running costs of this site.

As a result of a significant increase in our hosting costs, recently we have been spending quite a bit more each month than we currently collect, and the BBS is now running at a fairly considerable loss (over a grand a year). We have burned through all our existing cash balances (and some) so to date this loss has been met by one of two very generous individuals. Unfortunately that support is going to come to an end and consequently we need to raise some more money to ensure the continued success of the BBS.

We don’t want to introduce advertising because who wants to see banner ads when they are in the middle of a consideration of what type of fruit a fat man can or cannot draw, or a ponderance of a “Thing” or “Things”, or even where might be nice for afternoon tea (not the Ritz), and we certainly don’t want to move to any form of formal subscription service.

So basically we are asking if anyone who uses the BBS regularly, who can afford to help a little, and would like to, to consider contributing to the running of the site as it would be really appreciated (and frankly now is really needed)

Regular monthly payments are preferred, because this allows us to budget more easily as we know roughly how much we will be receiving each month, but one-off payments are also welcome. £5 is the suggested, regular, monthly contribution, but we do have a number of Members who contribute more than this, so please do not be dissuaded from making a larger payment if you can afford it (and if you feel you want to help out).

If you choose to contribute you will be given BBS Angel status, which provides a few minor extras such as a larger PM capacity and bigger avatars etc.

Contributions can be made via PayPal or directly to the BBS Bank account.

For PayPal either click on this link (To view the link you have to Register or Login) which will take you to a subscription set up for PayPal, or simply log into PayPal and either set up a monthly subscription or send a one off contribution to contributions@cpfc.org.

For those who want to do something directly to the bank account, be it a standing order or a one off payment, PM me and I’ll send you the bank account details.

Please do consider making a regular contribution to the BBS and thanks again to all those who are already helping, or who are considering doing so.

Thanks

Adlerhorst

ps. There are old some bank account details published somewhere in the bowels on the BBS. Those are out of date and will be removed when I work out which button to press, so if by chance you come across them please don’t use them.

I split with the wife after 29 years a couple and 22 years of marriage, not what I wanted but anyway.......

I'm 46 and I signed up to Tinder to see what it was about and to stay alive, but after my first experiences of swiping I feel like I've been thrown into prison unjustly, I just shouldn't bloody well be here.

I'm on probably 85% 'Nope' atm because they seem to be made up of 20% minger, 10% nutjob, 20% overweight and 35% trout-pouting idiot or using filters to change what they actually look like. Will any of the 15% reply?

This hasn't exactly filled me with confidence, so dear BBS, is there light at the end of this tunnel?

4-4-2 at home please

We created some real chances in the 2nd half vs West Ham. Whilst we have created some good chances in most games, this was for me one of the first home games when we've created so many clear cut opportunities. However the first half was poor. We put ourselves on the back foot with such a negative formation. The set-up is all wrong. We are at home, and it's winnable.

We should play with 2 strikers, and Wilf wide midfield in the home games. Also we should play Max Meyer in the home games because we are going to have more possession and we need the extra passing and technical ability. He made a big difference in just 10 minutes against West Ham. I'm all for the solid defensive formation of 4-3-3 when we are away from home or playing the top sides at home. (In fact I'd go 4-4-2 with a target man and Zaha up front, but a defensively solid midfield of 4 in behind.) Yes, we need to be organised away from home especially. But the mindset is wrong for home games. We are a very good side and we start the first half hoping to get in at half time 0-0. It's way to negative.

I'd rather lose the same number of games but at least give it a go. No coincidence that we won against Fulham with a more attacking 4-4-2 and scraped to a 1-1 draw against West Ham with the 4-3-3. Just saying.

Discussion: Midfield 19/20 Season

How would you like to see our Midfield line up next season, and what players?

Also, would any of the potential relegation threatened teams players improve our Midfield? Mooy/Billing/Seri/Cairney/Romeu/Lemina?

Mystery of Palace victory featured in Rotherham Hall of Fame

dimanche 10 février 2019

My wife's aunt is a Rotherham season ticket holder and to celebrate her 80th birthday yesterday we all went to the Rotherham game and afterwards went to a party in their function suite in the main stand. It's a very impressive facility overlooking the pitch and next to the Boardroom and during the party they showed videos of the manager and squad wishing my wife's aunt a happy birthday.

When I went for a stroll to look at their Hall of Fame, I was surprised to find a photo of our away game from 2003. It was memorable for a few reasons. Firstly because we won 3-1, secondly because we sat in the home end with my wife's aunt and thirdly because her son-in-law nearly got chucked out for cheering Palace's goals too enthusiastically (he's a Wednesday supporter).

The date was a bit mysterious though as accordding to records that was the date of our home game. The away game was in December. Alternatively it could have been our away game against them in April 2004 which we also won (2-1). More of a mystery is why they would want to highlight a defeat to the mighty Palace in their Hall of Fame.

Sony Experia XZ1 GPS issues

About a year ago the gps started to play up on my XZ1 Compact. It only works randomly and then that's very rare.

Looked online and it's quite a common problem but Sony aren't admitting there's an issue.

It's definitely a hardware?operating system problem and not the individual apps.

Anyone have any clues?

I really can't justify forking out for a new phone just because the GPS doesn't work but it's a real pain.

Vestibular neuritis

Has anyone had this or know anything about it? I’m pretty sure it’s what I’ve got as the symptoms seem to match up. Basically I had a cold/flu all last week and towards the end of the week I noticed that when changing position in bed I would have 10 seconds or so of the room spinning. I’m still getting that, and if I get up too quickly I feel dizzy when walking.

From what I can gather from reading about it, there isn’t really any treatment and it should get better on its own, but could take up to 3 weeks. I’m not sure what I should be doing about work though as I guess I can’t really drive. Would the doctor sign me off work? If so would I then need to report it to the DVLA?

Any advice gratefully received. Thanks.

Places you visited that don’t exist anymore

East Berlin
In the late 1950’s I lived in West Berlin, British Sector. My dad was stationed there. One day the family went to the Russian Sector. Went along Stalinallee, which was pretty much restored. But we turned off down a side street and I remember all the still bombed-out buildings. Finished up at a War Cemetery, maybe Treptower, and remember the guide pointing out different mounds and telling us how many thousands were buried in each one.

World Trade Center
Back in mid 1980’s went to the top of the WTC. Pretty windy and exposed up there, but great views. Mind you didn’t go too near the edge.

Too many clubs, pubs and bars to list, but I did visit Studio54 once, but that’s another story. :sunglasses:

So, what places have all you BBSers visited that don't exist anymore?

Rhodri Giggs Paddy Power ad

Fair play to the guy. The public humiliation of what his brother did can’t have been easy and quite a way to get revenge. This Paddy Power ad is so well done. Look out for all the little sly digs. My favourite - the poster behind the barmaid. :D

Where’s your famous atmosphere?

Always makes me smile when away fans sing this (and they do most home games). It’s good to know our atmosphere is still ‘famous’ despite what we think this season. The Grimsby fans were excited to come to Selhurst for the atmosphere too and Doncaster fans were pretty chuffed with the draw given the fans we’d bring and the atmosphere we’d help create.

At times we beat ourselves up on this forum but (thanks largely to the fanatics) we’ve created a fantastic reputation that marketing could not buy and most other clubs are desparate to try to replicate.

We should already be safe

Reckon we’ve dropped 12-15 points from missing sitters alone.

We’ve been on top in so many games and lost or drawn.

Roy has to take the blame for this. I have no doubt we’ll stay up - but it’s very very poor that we’re even in the dogfight given the players we’ve got and the way we’ve been playing.

If you're going to Selhurst today...

...let us all greet Craig Pawson's every wrong or questionable decision with a standing ovation.

Get those hands up and get them clapping. Let us serenade the FA with our own sarcastic message and show Wilf that he's got our support.

The fact Wilf has a ban and Barnes got nothing, for very different types of dissent, it's terrible. What message does the 'governing body of English Football' want to send to kids? It's OK to show passion and yell "F**k off" multiple times at an office, but to smile and sarcastically clap is not acceptable at all. I'm no excusing Wilf, but he has had such a rough time from fellow professionals on the pitch, ex-pros off the pitch, the media and the FA. There is an underlying level of racism here, not the kind that people are actively deciding to use, it's buried deep and I really think it's exposed when you connect all the dots.

Kai Havertz

Possibly a random thread, but my God this kid (he's still only 19 ffs!!!) is going to be something really special. I know not everyone follows the Bundesliga but to be as good as he is already... We talk(ed) on here last Summer about Wilf being worth £60-70m at 24 years old, Havertz has to be pushing the boundaries already of £100m. I'm interesting to see if any of the big clubs in England or Spain get their wallets out come the Summer. The one problem Bayer Leverkusen have is their wage structure won't allow them to keep him forever.

Absolutely amazing player who can only get better. Cue Bayern buying him for £3m next year though knowing German football. :hmph:

Julian Brandt too... :lux:

Happy birthday me old mucker.:love::sunglasses:

Have a great day.

Why we need Roy Hodgson to remain at the helm this summer.

Scrumpy’s post(60) Page 3 of pre match press conference and Palaces financial power.
With ffp cycle about to refresh this summer imo it’s important that we carry on as we currently ie being careful with money as we have to live within our means.
Roy’s views and understanding of this are exactly what we need. We’ll grow from stability and Roy gives us that for sure, of course this season hasn’t gone to plan but injuries to the frontmen has been a big factor in this and you only had to look at last Saturday to see the confidence return to the side as we finally had options up top. Roy isn’t perfect no manager is but he’s a perfect fit for us.

Cheers to Stumpy for highlighting this issue .

Is participation in the BBS on the wane?

Seems to me the daily number of posts are down or going down lately. This is just an observation on my part, with nothing to back it up. Are there statistics available?

Also, the core group of posters seems to be dwindling or maybe a changing of the guard… I’m not sure which.

Looking at older posts, it’s amazing how many members don’t seem to post anymore, be it flounced, banned, bored, got a life, or God forbid passed away. Probably inevitable due to the age of the site… it really is creaking around the edges a bit, but still head and shoulders above any other football fan site I have ever seen, be it Palace related or any other teams.

While working I was told that 65% of our company workforce was over 55… I suspect this number is pretty consistent with cpfc.org’s membership at this time.

Maybe we need another administration to stir up the masses!

Thoughts/observations?

About 60 strangers turned up to the funeral of a man they had never met after an appeal from the vicar.

Terence Filer, 85, died at St Martin's House Care Home in Camborne, Cornwall on 2 January.

The funeral directors and Cornwall Council attempted to find people who knew him but with no success. This prompted the vicar to appeal for people to attend his funeral in Redruth.

BT Sport Documentary - The Team of the 80s

Hi all

As some of you may recall, with the kind assistance from many staff, players and supporters, I directed and produced both our Centenary and subsequent History DVD’s for the club back in 2005 & 2011 respectively – projects I am immensely proud to have been involved with.

Back in 2008 I approached the club with an idea to create a film celebrating our golden generation of youth team players from the 1970’s which were nurtured firstly by Malcolm Allison and his team of coaches and then by Terry Venables, who ultimately gave us a team capable of challenging (albeit briefly) at the very top of the Football league.

Sadly, the club couldn’t move forward with the project at the time but over ten years later and with kind support from Steve Parish I approached BT Sport with the idea. Given their brilliant work on creating a raft of quality sporting documentaries I felt the channel would be best placed to support the project and I’m delighted to say they have decided to commission my idea.

This BT Sport Documentary, entitled The Team of the 80s, is now in production and I will be hoping to speak with as many of the main protagonists as possible to dig deep into an era that defined our great club. The story begins with Malcolm Allison’s arrival in 1973 and continues throughout the 1970’s with relegations, cup runs, promotions, a table topping moment and of course the spectacular fall from those dizzying heights. Plus - everything in between!

This is where the good ship BBS can help.

I would love to hear any stories you may have from that era that could help crystallise what was an incredible period for the club. Also, if you have any personal photographs or cine film that can help illustrate the club and or area at that time I would love to be able to include some of that work in the film and would of course keep any items shared/loaned to the production completely safe.

Any and all thoughts welcome.

Cheers
Al Ryan
