Its not often I or many other people here speak up for a referee But that it is what I am about to do.
As you are aware Mr Dean refereed Burnley v Spurs on Saturday and erroneously gave a corner against Spurs that led to a corner that led to a goal.
My feelings om seeing this were
! There were about 3 close quarters richochets involved,
2 was this not the Assistants initial call?
3 It took the one of many cameras in the ground trained at the perfect angle to establish the truth (would have been a perfect one for VAR)
4 due to awful Spurs defending and a good header bu Burnley this had finished in the Spurs net. Would there be a discussion otherwise on the merits of the decision
5 When I think of all the incompetences weve seen perpetrated by refs this season this one was way short of the worst.
6 Putting aside general antipathies towards refs that have been expressd on these boards I reckon Dean is far more reliable and less easily swayed than most and this suspension seans to owe much to big club influence than egregious error by the ref . You have to ask whether us, or Burnley for that matter could have got a ref suspended in the same circumstances. We would have fumed, put it down to experience and moved on i reckon. As I said in 4 Spurs failed to defend the corner
I thinjk a terrible precedent has been set. THE PL wouldnt have enough refs left if they suspend them all for calls like this
