Could someone explain how this works please

Derby player gets booked during fight, so ref has seen it. Now upgraded to 4 game ban.

Dawson elbows Speroni but no retrospective action because ref saw incident and booked Dawson.........

Now, as far as I'm aware the "no further action as ref has seen it" is still being said in the media, so that hasn't changed, so what is going on?

The usual make it up as they go along is my guess.

Clyne vs. AWB

Aaron turned 21 midweek and Clyne left us for Saints at about the same age.

Which of the academy products was the better player at this point in their development?

Palace social media manager

jeudi 29 novembre 2018

This could be a long shot, but does anyone know if the person in charge of social media uses this forum?

I have a friend who has a serious heart condition and has recently undergone open heart surgery with uncertain results.

He is unresponsive, but has someone by his side constantly reading messages of support.

Our aim is to get every single Premier League team to Tweet a message. We've only just started out, but so far have Man City on board.

Can anyone help me get in contact with someone at Palace who could do something similar?

Thanks a lot.

Goals

We are quite rightly having a pop at the strikers we have and the ones the board haven't got in but in almost half a season we haven't had a single goal from a defender from a set-piece as far as I can remember.

Our free kicks and corners are rubbish, it always was a strong point

Amigo loans

I’ve just had a call from Amigo Loans to let me know that my ex has taken out a loan with them, put me down as her guarantor and missed a payment. This is all news to me, but if I say anything to them she’s going to be in big trouble isn’t she?

Apologies if there's already a thread. I did do a search but got bored after four pages.

We're thinking of moving to Chichester next year. Just wondering how many fellow BBSers are in and around the area? Are there any designated pubs for live Palace games? Do many travel up to Selhurst together on matchdays? (Direct service to East Croy so I'm guessing a fair few)

Recent match reviews (inc. Manchester United vs Palace)

Found these on the Internet and thought they were worth a share:

replays of 4 matches back to back yesterday on telly, total vegetative state

Lpool 3
Watford 0
lpool are so good to watch. none of this fapping about on halfway, Pablo, to Escobar, back to Pablo bullshit. Straight for the throat. Snotford are good value too

Spurs 3
Chelski
****ign glorrrriousss. was expecting the worst here, given Spurs ponderous overly cagey play this season but OH FAHHK, Alli Kane Eriksen first start together of the season and they shredded the down-tools prima donnas to shit. Greatly aided by Sideshow Bob Luiz actually getting out of the way of a shot to matador it in. Pea-hearted moran. Jorginho, the mega-fapped new Xhelski star, also outed himself as total filth.

Man U 0
Palace 0
palace gave Spurs some horrid gyp in last match, unlucky to lose 0-1. they have a lot of fancy dan tricky fellas. Andros Townshend must drive his teammates batty though, always blinkered runs away from support that end in a panicked cul de sacked flubbed shot

Man C : who ******* cares
West Ham: 0
almost refuse to watch Man C's murderous procession towards coronation, built on the backs of migrant slaves, indentured wimmins, and 2 BILLION pounds worth of hoarded badge-clutching mercenaries. They have spent 2 BILLION pounds in 9 years. W.F.T. Oh yeah, tune in for more of their attack versus defence tedium as some poor Torquay Rovers bogsnot bastards have to park all 10 pricks behind the ball less the galacticos phalange of megabucks asssasins run unholy ******* riot all up and down their collective 10-quid-a-day groin meat.

Suggestion: eberechi eze

Darren Pitcher RIP.

Died today, only 49 years of age. Very sad.
Condolences to his relatives and friends.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Burnley (Home)

No way Hodgson will change the system now, so...

The Henn
AWB Tomkins Sakho PvA
Townsend Kouyate Milivojevic Meyer
Sorloth Zaha

Harsh on McArthur, but we need a striker in there and, if I remember rightly, Burnley are quite a big team. I think we will score in open play Saturday as I reckon Roy has loosened the reins a bit.

Darren PItcher

Very sad to see Darren has died at the all too young age of 49. Not always a favourite but a hard worker in our midfield in the 90s, perhaps remembered best by Palace fans for a screamer in a cup tie at Wolves

RIP Darren Pitcher.

Roger Hoy RIP

Rumour: Ajdin Hrustic

To view the link you have to Register or Login

"Palace and Huddersfield eye winger
Crystal Palace and Huddersfield are keen on Groningen winger Ajdin Hrustic.

The Aussie, 22, has impressed in the Eredivisie after making his professional debut last year.

He played youth football with South Melbourne in his homeland and German side Schalke before moving to Groningen in 2015.

Since then he has earned his first cap for Australia, after rejecting the advances of Bosnia & Herzegovina, and his form has now caught the eye of the Premier League sides with both sizing up moves for him in January."

Scott Dann - Emergency Striker?

Seeing that RH not playing/trusting Ayew/Sorloth - why not Dann as target man? He is good in the air and can hold play up. Why not? Can’t be any worse than no out and out strikers right now.

Puma Shirt Sizing

I know there was a long thread on this somewhere but I can't find it.

What is the sizing like on the new shirts? Need to get my old man one for Xmas.

Would usually be a Large but thinking it should be XL?

Any difference between home, away or third?

Thanks.

Bottom 3 this weekend?

A few predicted that we would be in the bottom three by the end of the current run we have had against the top sides. We have managed to avoid that thus far by the skin of our teeth so what needs to happen this weekend:

1 We win and all is lovely - no real chance of either Southampton or Cardiff catching us, even if they win, due to goal difference.

2 We draw - things become slightly interesting.
We go above Burnley if they lose to Newcastle or above Newcastle if they lose to Burnley by four goals.
Cardiff will need to beat Everton and Southampton will have to beat Fulham to go above us.
Huddersfield also need a win against Wolves.
Fulham can't catch us even if they win.

3 We lose.
Southampton just need a draw against Fulham to go above us.
Cardiff just need a draw against Everton.
Huddersfield need a win against Wolves.
Fulham can't catch us even if they win.

So best results for us:

Everton beat Cardiff
Fulham beat Southampton?
Wolves beat Huddersfield
Burnley draw with Newcastle?

Car damage question

Looking to BBS for help please. Quite straightforward, a van from a national company crossed onto my side of the road and took my wing mirror off, driver stopped, admitted it was his fault. So I just took details as I was in a hurry taking Mrs to hospital for her operation appointment.

Brought new mirror and fitted it myself (quite expensive £170 as it has camera etc inside) chased the company for months and finally they said I need to go through my insurance.

just wanted to check this is right as my excess is more than that, would rather them just pay me than lose NCD.

The World is your Oyster

jeudi 22 novembre 2018

Me and the clan are going to be in the UK early next year and are travelling from Dorset to London by train. We need to get from Waterloo to Greenwich at around 5pm on a Friday!

I can buy an advance train ticket for around 3 pounds each or is there a better way to travel?

We plan to travel other places by train and underground over a long weekend.

Do I need an Oyster card? How does an damned foreigner get one? Can I use London's fabulous public transport without one? Do we need one each? Will there be tube strikes in February?

Any advice from the BBS' collective wisdom gratefully appreciated :p

US Investors

Apologies if this is already explained elsewhere but can anyone summarise in simple terms:

How much was paid and when for the US investment?

If it was a one time injection of cash has that already been used in previous transfer windows?

The next question would be do we have any pot of money to use for transfers in the coming window.

I know there are some on here that do look at the filed accounts.

Pogba Football Leaks

Hello. I am a visiting Manchester City fan.

I have just been reading our message board and come across some news about Pogba that I thought you'd be interested in seeing as he might be playing against you this weekend.

I can't post the link but this is on Twitter @GFFN

"Breaking | Football Leaks Headline: The €22m commission paid by Manchester United to Mino Raiola on the Paul Pogba deal violates UK and FIFA regulations as the agent failed to declare a conflict of interest. More follows. (Mediapart)"

"More: Juventus also paid a commission to Mino Raiola, worth €27m, and a FIFA internal investigation recommended sanctions against relevant parties, but higher ups ignored the outcome of the investigation. (Mediapart)"

Predictably ignored by the English press but if FIFA wanted to sanction Man Utd and UEFA overruled it they this is an issue for the Premier League surely. You can't field players who are ineligible. What if he scores against Palace or lays on an assist that leads to a club getting relegated.

This could be a Tevez argument in the making.

My interest in this is that City have been hammered in the English press for a period for which we have already been sanctioned and other clubs are being exposed by Football Leaks and the press ignores it almost entirely. Apologies if you do not feel this is relevant but I find it really annoying.

Good Luck at the weekend, and hopefully Pogba doesn't score against you.

Albums of the Year 2018

As we get towards the end of the year, end of year lists start to come out. I'm still sorting mine as there's still stuff I need to give more of a listen to.

My list will also be shorter than in the past as i've been listening to a lot more podcasts this year. That and since I finally got Spotify, i've been listening to a lot more older stuff, so newer music has taken a little bit of a back seat.

Ousmane Dembele - Gaming Addiction?

I found this quite interesting as someone who quite often when I get a spare bit of time I often lose track of time gaming and very often get that "just one more game" feeling particularly when I lose, so for a professional club to come out and aim it at one of their players is quite something in my opinion.

Ray Lewington Q&A 26th Nov at Club All Welcome

The trust have arranged a Q&A session at Speroni's Resturant at the club on 26th November at 7.00pm. All are welcome to attend. This is about the one time in the year that fans can come and ask a member of the club about just about anything.

This will be followed by the Trust's AGM and a discussion to guage peoples views on the"Singing Section". The discussion will be held before the AGM and people are welcome to contribute to that Trust members or not. We do have regular meetings with Phil A and other members of the club staff so we can put views forward through a recognised channel.

It would be good to see some new faces. The bar will be open as well.

Brighton v Leicester .....score predictions

I'll go 1-1

We seemed a bit tired at home to Burnley after all the things going on and the flight to Thailand for the funeral but after a short break i expect us to be fresh and up for the fight as we were in our last away at Cardiff........Harry Mcquire may be back after missing Burnley and Englands last two matches and Englands new left back Chilwell will start as hes young enough to play twice a week without moaning...........................Do Brighton still open up the bar in the away end after the final whistle?........any excuse for our coach lot to hang about for a bit before the long trip home.....

Rumour: Lovre Kalinic

According to the Sun on Sunday, we are interested in the Croatian keeper. Sounds like utter nonsense to me when we have two capable keepers on the books (plus Speroni as decent third choice) - we have far bigger holes to plug.

Life before Sky

dimanche 18 novembre 2018

Do you remember life before Sky TV? Was the football less exciting? I don't think so. Has vast amounts of money improved the excitement, the atmosphere or the experience of going to a game. I don't think so. It is now hugely difficult for everyone outside the top sides to compete. Add to that we now cannot watch the national team competing in football, rugby or cricket without it. As for boxing forget it. I will never subscribe. A plague on it.

Lost Argentine submarine found.

At the big naval battle of Jutland, in 1916, the German fleet was put to flight and dared not venture out again. Eventually there was a mutiny, and at the end of the war, the surrendered fleet was scuttled at Scapa Flow in the Orkney islands. The battle itself was a "draw", but the Royal Navy actually suffered more losses than the imperial German fleet. In the post-mortems, one conclusion was that the German fleet was designed for a limited radius of operation, needed less bunkerage and thus could have heavier armour plating than the RN ships - which were required to safeguard a global empire.

There is an echo of this in the cheap and nasty ships/subs being sold by Germany and France to naive navies across the world. There are repeated stories of small, inshore submarines sold to developing country navies where they are expected to operate in oceanic conditions.
One of the strangest stories emerging from the overthrow of the corrupt Najib government in Malaysia, is the story of the French submarines "which dared not submerge" (Indonesia has a similar problem).

Argentina's San Juan, was a lightweight vessel, built in Germany in the early 1980s, and sent to operate in the tough conditions of the South Atlantic/Southern Ocean. The hull collapsed, killing the entire crew.
The wreckage has now been located and the debate has started as to whether the boat should be raised. Several interested parties will probably ensure that there is no open investigation.

Incidentally, the UK ministry of defence has now decided to build a class of lightweight frigates as "filler-in" vessels for routine patrols in areas like the Mediterranean and the Persian/Arabian Gulf, and with one eye on "export sales". The Navy is not very happy.

Art - a discussion

So Hockney's painting makes a shed of money
To view the link you have to Register or Login

"A celebrated painting by British artist David Hockney has been sold at Christie's in New York for just over $90m (£70m) - an auction record for a work by a living artist." (BBC website)

I understand the concept of people 'investing' in art, to eventually realise a good profit.
But the concept of 'good' and 'bad' art has always evaded me. I had a discussion with an architect friend of mine, who stated that "Art was anything that is in a gallery". Jackson Pollock kind of spoiled the concept of art for me.
Hockney never really floated my boat. I saw his painting of a BMW, which just make me think it had been covered in graffiti.

May be I am too thick to "get it". I suggest people take a look in Tate Modern to maybe understand my thoughts a little better.

I can appreciate Roman art in sculptures and mosaics, and paintings of the renaissance.

Modern art just doesn't do it for me.

Housing advice (lying council)

Some people may know my situation after reading the depression thread.

I have a flat through housing and everything was perfect until May. A neighbour moved in and has ruined my families lives. It started with noise, loud music, homeless coming in and out etc. We live on the ground floor so hear everything.

In June there was an attempted break in and my son had a torch shone in his eyes. He has suffered awfully since and cannot go anywhere in the flat or outside without us...he can't even go to the toilet without us.

Since then, we have reported everything. The lady is a drunk who weed herself outside our flat whilst banging on the door on drugs, caused issue after issue etc until it all came to a head last week. My wife asked her to keep the noise down as and her and a man attacked her leaving her with a bruised neck and wrist. The police were called and they were both arrested but went mad.

I have had depression etc for years and was dealing with it. I was on citilopram and since this have been put on 4 lots of medication. I had CBT etc but nothings worked. I put in a homeless application as couldn't cope which they rejected without a letter or anything.

We stayed in hotels last week which the housing association helped us with but have been paying ourselves this week. I can't rent privately because of my credit and can't believe this whole situation.

The neighbour now has an injunction in place until a hearing in a few weeks. Long story short as there is a lot more to it but the council have done EVERYTHING they can to hurt us and not help us. I am going to lose my job and genuinely don't want to live sometimes but love my family so much.

Citizens advice etc can't believe what's happening and we went to another council who also can't believe it.

They responded my letter to the old homeless application today which was done ages ago and have lied all over it. Mentioning the police shining a torch through which never happened, not mentioning the assault and belittled the anxiety saying we can't prove its because of this.

I can't understand it and don't know what's going on, it feels like a personal attack. We are seeking legal advice but does anyone know why they would act like this or give advice? I'm stuck.

There's a lot more to it and thank you to everyone who responded on the depression thread. I'm not eating and it's ruined my life yet this response etc is a joke.

VAR to be introduced next season

To view the link you have to Register or Login

TBH I'm mostly just pro/against VAR if it favours us.

I don't think we've been especially hard done by by decisions this season (Watford should have had a man sent off, The Arsenal handball vs the penalty we should have given away against Fulham), so I'm kind of in favour of it but not exactly screaming for it.

Jokanovic gone

Seems that Fulham have ousted Jokanovic and replaced him with Ranieri. A good move or risky.

Benteke's Return

Will it be the case that as Benteke's return is likely to coincide with the January transfer window that the clubs board will convince themselves that a new striker is not required. Especially if Wickham finally declares himself also fit?!!

A bit of a long shot, but here goes...

£5m golden goodbye for Scudamore

Richard Scudamore is set to received £250k from every PL club as a farewell gift. This is on top of his £2.5m annual salary. While he's clearly done a great job he hardly needs this money and I'd rather see it spent on grassroots or in the community.

Limiting Foreign Players To 12 From 17 In A 20 Man Squad

Plans are being discussed to limit the number of foreign players in a squad from the current 17 to 12.

This is long overdue and will hit some clubs who have taken the foreign player route very hard whilst the value of English players will rocket.

Many of the big clubs have literally filled their first team and academies with foreign players and now the value of these players will fall as only the best will be worth keeping on their books.

Added to the loan limit of a maximum of 8 players allowed to be loaned out this will really hit the clubs that use stockpiling foreign talent for loan purposes for financial profit and stop them hoovering up these young players for solely this purpose.

Volume 4 of the Palace History Book

It's time for me to make my annual appeal for material for the next volume of the Palace history.

Volume 3 of the Origin of Crystal Palace FC has just been published and is available in the club shop. It covers the period 1909 to 1912, with the Crystal Palace Company facing liquidation, and Palace looking nervously at an uncertain future, and is ram-jam full of never-before-seen Palace memorabilia and history.

If your family, like mine, are asking you for hints about what you would like for Christmas: Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are now available on Ebay as full colour, hardback deluxe editions - and are now also on Ebay as affordable, full size, softback, black and white editions for £19.99. A perfect post-Christmas-dinner read.

Volume 4 is in production and will record the history of Palace’s eviction from Crystal Palace Park due to WW1, through the club’s time at Herne Hill and its relocation to the Nest in 1918.

If any BBS contributors would like to play a part, and have any original materials from this period they would like to be considered for inclusion in the book, I’d be delighted to hear from you. You may use this thread or PM me with your information.

Obviously items of especially keen interest for Volume 4 are any memorabilia pertaining to the Herne Hill stadium (thus far there is not even a single surviving photo of Palace playing there) or the Nest, but don’t be limited by that. Absolutely anything of interest to Palace fans - before, during or after this period - is always welcome.

Photographs, letters, documents, maps, share-certificates, yearbooks, newspaper cuttings, cigarette cards, souvenirs. I just require a good-quality scan or photograph of the document or item. The only proviso is that you must own the original document or object, and the document is not a scan from any already-published Palace history book.

I can’t offer any payment but I can guarantee to credit the contributor by name next to their document (only if they wish, of course) and you can be a small part of Palace’s history for ever.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man Utd (away)

-------------------------Hennessey--------------------------
AWB----------Tomkins-------------Sakho--------------PVA
Townsend----Kouyate-----------Milivojevic----------Ayew
----------------Sorloth---------------Zaha--------------------

1) Sorloth must start. he deserves a run of games to see if he can score. The team plays better with him as a focal point. We've spent £9m on him, we may as well give him a chance. He's raw, but if he gets a goal his confidence will soar. He's 6'4", he's a handful, and left footed which suits a strike partner for Wilf.

2) I'd play Ayew wide left mid. That's where he played for Swansea and did well. He works very hard for the team. But if they want to be more defensive then go for Meyer or even McArthur.

3) This game is a free hit because we are not expected to win, but we must have a chance if we can perform to our best - Man Utd are nothing special, and AWB will nullify AWB. COYP

Right Wing "Think Tanks".

To view the link you have to Register or Login

"The uncontested claim has stated that the TaxPayers’ Alliance is responsible for Elliott’s Brexit Central website as part of nine “linked” high-profile rightwing “thinktanks” that operate in and around offices at 55 Tufton Street in Westminster and coordinate media and other strategy.

In Sanni’s case, they also coordinated with Downing Street.

The network includes the Adam Smith Institute, the Centre for Policy Studies, the Institute of Economic Affairs and Leave Means Leave. The shadow chancellor, John McDonnell, is calling for a full inquiry into the groups’ funding and said that in the interests of “openness and accountability” the BBC must make clear they are lobbyists, not thinktanks” as they are sometimes referred to."

So all these supposedly independent think tanks are actually linked organisations which carry out political lobbying. On behalf of who? It's probably about time we knew and also time that they are prevented from having such a prominent position in our media and government.

Rumour: Dominic Solanke set to be loaned out with West Ham and Crystal Palace keen

Quote:

LIVERPOOL are ready to let forgotten man Dominic Solanke go out on loan — and that has put Crystal Palace and West Ham on red alert.

The striker, 21, has slipped down the pecking order at the Kop and Jurgen Klopp is poised to sanction a temporary exit.

The Anfield boss has not given up on Solanke just yet and the former Chelsea kid still hopes to push his way into the plans.

But a spell away may be the best for all parties.

Daniel Sturridge is still ahead of him and likely to stay there despite being subbed against Red Star Belgrade last week.

But the fact Divock Origi has replaced him as next man in is a blow.

Sources close to Liverpool claim that Solanke will go on loan if there is no offer to buy Belgian Origi soon.

Palace are big fans and he could be the answer to their problems up front.

West Ham are also keen but they would have to convince Liverpool and their young forward that he would start.

In the meantime, Palace director of football Dougie Freedman flew to Brazil last week to watch Gabriel Barbosa playing on loan for Santos.

Groundhog Roy

We seem to experience the same old things under Roy
- lift our game against a top six team and get less than we deserve
- miss a sitter
- concede a soft goal (probably from a set piece)
- waste every set piece we have ourselves
- don’t turn up against the teams we’d beat easily if we played with the energy we do against the top six
- our centre forwards can’t score

Player Ratings And Reviews: Spurs

I’m fed up with losing. Can’t keep saying we played ok. We’re in trouble and anyone who can’t see that is delusional. We are simply not good enough. We rarely keep a clean sheet & can’t score. I’m more than worried. Unless we spend on quality on 1st Jan, we have problems

CARS

Or the Croydon Area Resignalling Scheme...

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Big block of text...will bullet point this bad boy:

1. "about implementing disruptive infrastructure improvements in the Croydon area in order to provide long term benefits to rail services."

2. "Topics relevant to this particular consultation include the impact of the scheme, in broad terms, on the local community with issues such as over-platform development at East Croydon, station entrances and changes to the local road system."

3. ...Signals don't like tunnels or the wet..."A consequence of the direct route of the Brighton Main Line at its southern end is there are a number of tunnels. Major engineering work is planned for Balcombe, Patcham and Clayton tunnels. This involves not only a multi-million pound cost but also a closure of the southern end of the Brighton Main Line for nine days in February 2019. "

4. ...Its not just rail disruption..."Nowhere will this be more apparent than Windmill Bridge itself which is a road-over-rail bridge that currently spans the five tracks present at that location. "

5. "Windmill Bridge forms part of Lower Addiscombe Road which itself is part of the busy A222. Whilst not a TfL road, its closure would mean more traffic on the A232 (Addiscombe Road) which is run by TfL. Furthermore, the Addiscombe Road is a major bus route onto which four of the busier routes serving areas to the east of Croydon converge."

6. ...Norwood Junction realisation... "The plan now is to have six tracks through Norwood Junction with four platform faces at the station. The station would be rebuilt so the dingy subway between the platforms will be filled in and new overbridges built. This in turn creates an opportunity to make the station step-free which will be welcomed by many locals as well as Croydon Council and TfL.

If Norwood Junction station becomes step free, almost all London Overground stations south of Surrey Quays will be step free."

7. ...update to track layout plans in Selhurst and Norwood Junction...
To view the link you have to Register or Login

"On current timescales it looks like the Thameslink Programme will be complete and running a full timetable around the end of 2020. Passengers will then have three years of a relatively stable and reliable train service before the next prolonged phase of disruption.

If all goes to plan, by around 2028/9 CARS should be delivering tangible benefits although it will not be fully complete before the early 2030s."

roger hoy

Roger Hoy, Crystal Palace and Spurs legend of the sixties, has died in an aged care home in northern New South Wales from the side effects of dementia. The former tough tackling defender fought the disease in typical rugged style but finally succumbed early on Friday morning (Nov 9) with family and friends at his bedside. Spookily, Palace and Spurs meet at Selhurst Park this weekend. Hopefully, fans of both clubs will give him a rousing farewell either before or during the game. Roger was 71.

Walking Football

Anyone here tried it? Talking to some people here, it's apparently one of the fastest growing sports in the UK etc.

I still play the "proper" version (albeit in old fart Over 45s), but as it's our off season here I thought I'd give this a try for something different, as my local Association has started it up for over 50s. And I'm loving it!

Rules are simple: usual rules except no running obviously (you have to keep one foot on the ground), no over head height, kick-ins instead of throw-ins, and non-contact. You play with goals about 2/3rds size with GKs. It looks quite comical at times with people speed walking to try and get back to make a tackle, or to move into space.

As I said, I still play the running version, and the two things that took a session or two to adjust to are: 1) you have to pass more or less straight to feet, because if you play the ball in front of them, unless it's only one stride in front they can't run so won't get to it; and 2) shooting from a standing position feels a bit odd - you need to change technique a bit to generate some power. It's also quite difficult to dribble past someone, by far the best way to move forward is through passing it.

So...anyone else?

Pubs for: West Ham

Think we'll have a beer somewhere central and then tube to Stratford before taking one DLR stop back to Pudding Mill - worked well last year. Will also try that post match. Where are people drinking pre match? Around London Bridge seems near enough yet far enough whilst still being accessible, if that makes sense.

Suggestion: Phillip Billing

Central Midfielder for Huddersfield.

May have to question the likelihood of whether Huddersfield would sell to a rival, but it is clear they like most sides down the bottom will be looking for cash to purchase a forward in Jan.

Great physical attributes, good passer, strong in the tackle and still only 22. Would be an upgrade on both Puncheon and Ridewald given the 'style' we play

Rail seating (safe standing) installation in Holmesdale Lower at Selhurst Park ?

On 1st November 2018, the latest edition of the “Green Guide” was published by the Sports Grounds Safety Authority. This has been described as ‘ground breaking’ because from now on, clubs in the Premier League and Championship are allowed to install “seats with rails” (sometimes known as ‘safe standing’) provided they are not locked in a closed position.

The “flip seats” with rails such as those installed at Tottenham’s new stadium are now permitted, as they are classed simply as “seats”

Crystal Palace has previously been one of the clubs at the forefront of the campaign to be allowed to have an installation of these seats with rails.

The main proviso of installing these seats is that clubs need to have a management policy “to get fans to sit down in those areas”. However all clubs already have such a policy in place, and would effectively turn a blind eye to standing in these areas as is currently the practice.

One of the main benefits of ‘seats with rails’ is that there is minimal chance of a dangerous incidents of standing fans toppling over each other, such as when celebrating a goal. There has previously been a petition to Government signed by 111,000 people calling for such areas to be allowed in the top two divisions, in the hope that it will help improve atmospheres in grounds.

A further benefit of such an area is that the fans who wish to stand know where it is acceptable, and fans who wish to sit, know where to avoid getting tickets.

I personally believe that the current plan, to evict 400 fans from the back of block E, which would ‘cost’ the club circa £100k in compensation is not the best solution - not only because of the cost to the club, but because it does not solve the issue of fans standing at the very front of E block (in front of sitters), plus fans who sit in block F will have lateral sightlines adversely affected by fans standing in the new singing section (back half of E)

If the club could split the stand horizontally into standing (ie rail seats at the back) and sitting (front half left as normal seats), then all fans in the Lower Tier could re-choose their positions depending on their preference, nobody need be evicted from the stand, and the £100k of compensation could go a long way towards paying for the new rail seats.

Hopefully the poll above will give an idea of people’s preferences and the level of demand, not only for standing amongst current lower tier fans from a proportion of those polled, but also the level of interest in rail seating (standing) from fans elsewhere in the ground, as a full conversion might be possible further down the line when other stadium developments have taken place.

On this day ..... November 4th 1972

samedi 3 novembre 2018

Always love bringing this one up .....and another year has passed.

Don Roger's debut on November 4th at home against Everton.

I can still remember it as though it was yesterday.

On 23 minutes, Rogers broke away from inside his own half, racing onto a through ball from John Craven, as England fullback Henry Newton chased in vain, Don coolly chipped Everton goalkeeper David Lawson into the Whitehorse Lane goal.

Is it really 46 years. I remember so much about the day ….. my 8 mates and I as 12 year old cycled the 4 miles or so to play football against a local village, Ampney Crucis.

It was a horrible, cold freezing grey day.

I played in goal and had the radio next to one of the “jumper for goalposts”, listening for updates ......

I even remember stopping on the cycle ride back for a drink of orange squash …….. halcyon days indeed ........

Rumour: Everton eyeing Wan-Bissaka

Everton are starting to compile a dossier on Crystal Palace’s exciting right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

The Toffees like the look of the young Eagle, 20, who has emerged this year and is now being recognised as a Premier League player and an England under-21 cap.

And the Goodison hierarchy know that they could need to improve that position in the future as Seamus Coleman passes his 30th birthday.

Palace would price Wan-Bissaka out of a move in January as they have to make sure they stay up first.

But it is starting to shape as a long term project as Everton plan ahead for next season after a busy campaign in the transfer market.

Everton also have several players to tempt Palace with.

Winger Ademola Lookman has been admired by the London club for a long time and even striker Cenk Tosun is a swap option down the line.

Coleman missed a long spell with injury and won’t give up his position without a fight but as Everton chart future arrivals they have a new name on their lips.

It would be a big decision to allow Lookman to leave Goodison Park, with many frustrated at his lack of opportunities in the first team.

The 21-year-old has long been regarded as one of the best young talents in the English game having first made his mark with Charlton.

But his move has failed to give him the regular Premier League action he wanted - even though he spent a successful year out on loan with RB Leipzig.

Palace would be desperate to resist any approaches for Wan-Bissaka at a time when he is playing such an important role in the side.

The chance to take Lookman as part of any deal would be interesting, though, given the side's need for more creative options to provide back-up for Wilfried Zaha.

Match Updates: Nov 3rd - 5th

Bournemouth v Man U to kick things off.

Leicester v Cardiff

Anyone else think it’s wrong that this game is going ahead today

I know life goes on and that but there is no way Leicester have been able to prepare properly for this game.

To me the league should have called this off

Football Leaks revelations

vendredi 2 novembre 2018

Worth a thread of its own.

Football Leaks, football's answer to WikiLeaks, via DER SPIEGEL, in cooperation with 14 other European news organizations, will publish a series of disclosures about the "dirty deals" of the football world. Dozens of articles will dive deep into the business of European football -- a billion-euro industry. German public broadcaster Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) also participated in the project and will air a 60-minute (German language) documentary on Sunday, Nov. 4 at 21:45 p.m.

The main revelations are Manchester City and PSG's financial doping and the attempts by 11 clubs to form a European Super League beginning in 2021.

It can't be long now and I for one would embrace these clubs finally jetting off and allowing everybody else to regain control and ownership of the game we love.

For Club & Country

With some of the negativity around the club at the moment, it’s important to put things into perspective. Great to see this from the club

Fireworks

jeudi 1 novembre 2018

It’s always been my view that fireworks should only be available at public displays and not to the general public.
However, the fact that anyone could now buy potentially unsafe fireworks on the internet means I’m now not so sure.
