Everton are starting to compile a dossier on Crystal Palace’s exciting right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The Toffees like the look of the young Eagle, 20, who has emerged this year and is now being recognised as a Premier League player and an England under-21 cap.
And the Goodison hierarchy know that they could need to improve that position in the future as Seamus Coleman passes his 30th birthday.
Palace would price Wan-Bissaka out of a move in January as they have to make sure they stay up first.
But it is starting to shape as a long term project as Everton plan ahead for next season after a busy campaign in the transfer market.
Everton also have several players to tempt Palace with.
Winger Ademola Lookman has been admired by the London club for a long time and even striker Cenk Tosun is a swap option down the line.
Coleman missed a long spell with injury and won’t give up his position without a fight but as Everton chart future arrivals they have a new name on their lips.
It would be a big decision to allow Lookman to leave Goodison Park, with many frustrated at his lack of opportunities in the first team.
The 21-year-old has long been regarded as one of the best young talents in the English game having first made his mark with Charlton.
But his move has failed to give him the regular Premier League action he wanted - even though he spent a successful year out on loan with RB Leipzig.
Palace would be desperate to resist any approaches for Wan-Bissaka at a time when he is playing such an important role in the side.
The chance to take Lookman as part of any deal would be interesting, though, given the side's need for more creative options to provide back-up for Wilfried Zaha.
