Volume 4 of the Palace History Book

mardi 13 novembre 2018

It's time for me to make my annual appeal for material for the next volume of the Palace history.

Volume 3 of the Origin of Crystal Palace FC has just been published and is available in the club shop. It covers the period 1909 to 1912, with the Crystal Palace Company facing liquidation, and Palace looking nervously at an uncertain future, and is ram-jam full of never-before-seen Palace memorabilia and history.

If your family, like mine, are asking you for hints about what you would like for Christmas: Volumes 1, 2 and 3 are now available on Ebay as full colour, hardback deluxe editions - and are now also on Ebay as affordable, full size, softback, black and white editions for £19.99. A perfect post-Christmas-dinner read.

Volume 4 is in production and will record the history of Palace’s eviction from Crystal Palace Park due to WW1, through the club’s time at Herne Hill and its relocation to the Nest in 1918.

If any BBS contributors would like to play a part, and have any original materials from this period they would like to be considered for inclusion in the book, I’d be delighted to hear from you. You may use this thread or PM me with your information.

Obviously items of especially keen interest for Volume 4 are any memorabilia pertaining to the Herne Hill stadium (thus far there is not even a single surviving photo of Palace playing there) or the Nest, but don’t be limited by that. Absolutely anything of interest to Palace fans - before, during or after this period - is always welcome.

Photographs, letters, documents, maps, share-certificates, yearbooks, newspaper cuttings, cigarette cards, souvenirs. I just require a good-quality scan or photograph of the document or item. The only proviso is that you must own the original document or object, and the document is not a scan from any already-published Palace history book.

I can’t offer any payment but I can guarantee to credit the contributor by name next to their document (only if they wish, of course) and you can be a small part of Palace’s history for ever.
