Given our horrendous injury list (and Wickham's ban), AP now has to really earn his money and get the best from the squad. Thank goodness our back 4 has remained largely stable.
We are without
Wickham (back for Spuds)
Bolasie (back for WBA)
Macca (out for season)
Cabaye (back for Spuds)
Sako (back for Spuds - maybe Watford)
Ledley (back for Watford)
Puncheon (back for Liverpool)
Time to be more old school and rely on two central midfielders (Mutch and Jedi or possibly one of those plus Boateng) that rotate DM duties, two wingers (Wilf and CYL or KaiKai) and two strikers working as a pair (2 from Gayle, Ade, Chammers or Campbell). For me Gayle and Ade.
Got to be more direct and stretch the offensive game wide, whilst narrowing the game when defending. Went out of fashion 15-20 years ago, but slowly coming back into view (Watford notably). Needs a strong pair of strikers upfront to work the defensive back 4 of the oppo.
Being positive, the injuries will enable the squad (and promising youngsters) to show what it can do, and that we can improve, despite our injury issues. Other teams have done it in the past, but our squad has not been tested like this in the PL before. Time for heroes to step up, and for AP to be brave and go direct. Just saying.
