Discussion: Football Managers : Genius and Idiots in the Transfer market

lundi 1 février 2016

Managers past and present - UK or elsewhere. Strategies, tactics, mindgames, stories etc.

The transfer window is a game of chess. Dont you love it when clubs pretend to be interested in a Donkey, and then open the champagne when their competitor club buys him for an exorbitant sum of money.

I heard that in the past if Glasgow Celtic were looking at a very good Catholic and Protestant player they would sign the latter on the understanding that the Catholic was off limits to Rangers. Not sure if the rumour is true.

all managers seem to tell lies about who they are watching or bidding for. Likewise they will sell expensive broken goods with all the compunction of a second hand car dealer.

Mourinho appears to be a disaster in the transfer market - giving away talent and then overpaying on donkeys. Dougie Freedman seems to have been very good for us. Likewise Mick McCarthy has done amazing things with very small money. Alex Ferguson seemed to only want to pay big money after trying the goods for a few months.....which turned out to be a fairly good strategy. Harry Rednapp seems to spend money like my ex girlfriend.....

stories, anecdotes, observations ?
