Sorry if this is the wrong place to start this thread,as apposed to Memory Lane, but With all the recent Man U Wankfest on the BBC,including them doing a 'Match Of The Day' type special for Beckham's charity game yesterday,in which Ferguson returned as manager of the GB & Ireland XI,why has our very own Legendary ex manager never been honoured??? :grrr:
After all Sir Steve did spend a grand total of 11.5 years,in 3 different spells & at 3 differing points in our history over the last 30+ years,in charge & he done it all,84-93 he built the team & club up from the farce of the Mullery era to attain our highest ever league finish,a maiden F.A. Cup final appearance & win the ZDS! ;) Shame it all went downhill after Wright left.
March 97-March 98 He done great in continuing Bassett's team into the playoffs & promotion, ultimately injuries & lack of squad depth & Goldberg's imminent arrival as chairman led to him moving 'upstairs' at the time.
January 99-July 2000 was for me his finest hour, ravaged by administration, players leaving, going on Strike (Miller!) He used all his knowhow & experience to lead us to 2 midtable finishes with a bunch of kids alongside 2-3 old pro's,a quite fantastic achievement!
We all know Sir Steve is a quiet, unnasuming man who hates the limelight & is totally not 'all about me' but I feel,25 years after the F.A. Cup final & 15 years on since he left us for the final time, that the man deserves to be honoured with a testimonial to thank him for all his efforts & achievements with us,he will be 60 soon & the sands of time are slowly slipping away as is the fresh memory of those years,So,I wonder whether anyone else on the BBS shares my view? & if CPFC2010 have ever thought about such an idea???
With our superb present & exciting future ahead maybe now is the time to pay some attention to the past & say thanks to our all time greatest manager???
