I love watching Yannick play for the sheer entertainment value and energy he brings to the whole Palace experience. I was extremely concerned at the thought he might leave over the summer, mainly because he's so much a part of everything CPFC - but, also, because I was genuinely concerned about how another team's crowd would react to his regular moments of "eccentricity".
Watching back the early part of last week's game, he was truly woeful in all honesty. An underhit shot here, an overhit pass there and failed attempts at tricks when a simple pass would do the job. Later, of course, he produced a thumping centre forward's finish for the goal, grew in confidence, and arguably proved our matchwinner.
All of which has got me wondering. Is YB a cracking footballer who suffers from occasional duff moments? Or is he a gifted but average player prone to occasional bouts of dazzling brilliance? I'd love it to be answer A, but wonder if I've been a little blinded by the great stuff he does to the point where I'm missing the bigger picture (while still very keen we should keep him). Thoughts anyone?
