Loan player we later purchased

Looking at the Bamford thread it made me wonder...

Loans were / are still (?) a way of testing a player before signing.

Who was the last player (before Wilf Zaha on loan from Utd)) that we did this with?

I can only think of Paul Stewart and we never even signed him (we should have done though!)
