Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Discussion: Walters hands in transfer request at Stoke

Do we read anything into this?

Five years ago this weekend...

We lost 3-0 away at Scunthorpe.

It's fair to say we've come a long way

The best is yet to come

Given our position and I know this makes no sense, but does anyone else think that we still have more to come and we've not yet reached our full potential?

Sako has been amazing and will probably be the bargain of the season. His performances are going to push Bolasie, punch and zaha.

We have chamakh to return.

Wickham seems to be settling in with a great deal of improvement to come.

Our defence is starting to look quality.

I'm starting to see why we bought McCarthy.

Of course there's always the cliff edge that Palace have a habit of falling over though!!!

When will Speroni be back?

Lots of rumours about Hennessey leaving. Does anyone know when Julian will be fit again? We obviously need two Premier League quality keepers.

Team of the Weekend

Sorry if posted elsewhere!

I know that comment will be made, but have always bought The Sun (for football write ups only)!

And so to their Team of the Weekend today! How many Palace players - 0. Did anyone there even watch the Palace match or are they too busy hiding their blue shirts!!!

And two of the Team of the Weekend were for West Brom - Lescott (difficult to defend against 8 rather than 10 outfield players) and Rondon (again, to score against 8 outfielders...and only 1 goal for them as a team with 50 odd minutes against 9)!

Very poor - all we seem to hear is about players going - Murray (wants to stay), Gayle (wants to stay), Dann (signed a 5 year contract rather than leave as suggested he wanted) and Bolasie!

And the write up heading 'Con trick' - although identifying Connor Wickham as their nemesis having been in the two teams to beat Chelsea at home under Mourinho, has a sub plot too!

Try facts, not c**p!!!

Palace v Chavton.

The League Cup tie is approaching.

Being brought up in the Palace supporting era I was, Millwall and The Scum have always taken precedence in the hatred stakes.
However, this cup tie throws up more (fairly local) hatred.
Me and my son were there for the last game of the season in 2005 when them scum celebrated like they'd won the prem, fa and league cups, Champions League and Croydon Sunday League titles all rolled into one.
I can't wait for us to shove this straight back down their clown throats.
Especially after this....

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man City (Home)

Can you change a winning team?

-----------------Mccarthy------------------------
Ward-----Dann-----------Delaney-------Souare
----------Cabaye---------Mccarthur--------------
Zaha------------Puncheon-------------Sako
------------------Wickham-----------------------

Subs:

Speroni
Kelly
Jedinak
Mutch
Bolasie
Bamford
Chamakh

Don't think you can change the XI, although Bolasie vs Zaha is a big call. Puncheon and Wickham need a goal.

Rumour: Wayne Hennessy to Norwich

£3m fee.

Rumour: Hennessey to Norwich

BREAKING: Sky Sources: #CPFC goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy is also due at #NCFC for a medical today. Fee believed to be £3m. #SSNHQ

Palace kit at Chelsea

Did anyone else, on seeing the white shirt (not with sash admittedly), white shorts and blue socks as they came out of the tunnel, immediately think of Peter Taylor and the 1976 3-2 FA Cup win there when we also wore white (sash) / white / blue? I did, and for some strange reason it all just felt right before the game.

Or was it just me?

Rumour: Jedinak to West Brom or Watford.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Quote:

Watford and West Bromwich Albion are interested in a late transfer deadline swoop for Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedinak.

The Eagles midfielder is out with a hamstring injury that he suffered in the Capital One Cup victory over Shrewsbury last week - but that will only sideline him for a couple of weeks.

And both Watford and West Brom - managed by ex-Palace boss Tony Pulis - are ready to pay around £3million for the 31-year-old.

The Australian international has been central to the Eagles’ rise from the Championship to becoming an established Premier League outfit.

But the competition for a central berth has been ratcheted up by the arrival of Yohan Cabaye from PSG in the summer.

Jedinak had to settle for a place on the bench for the opening games of the season - although he did come on as a late substitute in the wins over Norwich and Aston Villa.

The World according to WillCPFC thread

I had a few things I wanted to ask you and thought why not have a thread dedicated to Q and A? would you be opposed to that? :)

1st question, Could you expand your own ideology a bit? I know we've discussed a lot but I'd kind of like to see a clearer picture of the kind of things you believe.

I've gathered you're for a small state and probably lots of devolution? would you care to comment and expand?

Statistics

I thought it might be interesting to look at some of our stats and keep a running total throughout the season. I'm just using percentage possession, number of shots, number of shots on target and number of corners.

I know the possession stats are unlikely to tell us anything (it's what you do with your possession that counts) but certainly shots on target are a good indicator of how well a team might be doing. Certainly true if you look at our first season where we had few shots on target in some of our games.

I have decided to split it home and away and post an average:

Home:

Team ----- W/D/L -- Score -- Possession -- Shots -- On Target -- Corners

Arsenal ----- L --------1-2 ------ 41% --------11 -------- 4 ----------- 6
Villa ---------W -------2-1 -------50% -------- 16 -------- 6 ---------- 6

Average ------------------------- 45.5% ----- 13.5 ------ 5 ---------- 6

Away:

Norwich ---- W ------- 1-3 ----- 37% -------- 11 -------- 7 ---------- 4
Chelsea ---- W ------- 1-2 ----- 36% -------- 13 -------- 6 ---------- 7

Average ------------------------ 36.5% ------- 12 ------- 6.5 -------- 5.5

Eddie Izzard last night

I saw Eddie Izzard in Providence RI last night--a near full house, who loved him. In the middle of a bit on the crusades he changed his routine a bit: "and then in the second half on came Bolasie and Palace ended up winning 2-1 to go second in the table." Everyone looked baffled; I yelled 'Eagles' all the way from the top, my wife went 'woo,' which he heard as 'moo' and ended up, in his genius way, switching to cows. He then did a Q&A in the lobby afterward and I asked him how he liked being a director of the club; he corrected me, said associate director, then talked about the club's history for a little, how much he likes the owners, and how great it was to beat Chelsea. In 20 years living in the States I've never seen a Palace shirt, but I think that's going to change sometime soon if this keeps up! Great evening, and great show, needless to say.

Which TV sound bar system...?

I have an LG 42" smart TV with optical out, but I'm not using any sound set up for it, only the in built speakers which suck and the TV even resonates to some voices when watching. I know little about systems and need some advice.

My requirements are

1. Not top end expensive - I won't be paying out 3 grand for some service fitted Bang and Olufsen system. It's bang for buck for me.
2. I don't want wires trailing all over the room
3. As above, not that bothered about 7.1 surround, it's over-rated, you have to sit in a limited place to get the sound right for those
4. Clarity and volume please.

Tbh a 2.1 system will probably do, but interested in hearing from anyone who has recent experience of this stuff.

thanks

Luton Town Moving out of kenilworth road

LUTON Town FC has announced the purchase of land near Junction 10a of the M1 bringing a new stadium a massive step closer to reality.

The fans were told first in today's matchday programme.

While it has not been confirmed that this is the new location for the new stadium, it is an important step forward for the club in what has been a long discussed proposal to find a new home for the Hatters.

Looking at the current league table

How many times is it okay to look at the current league table without being considered obsessive and in need of help?

btw only a 4-0 win over Man City will take us to even dizzier heights.

Joel Ward to Centre Forward?

samedi 29 août 2015

Given his recent struggles, although Chelsea DIDN'T confirm it for definite, I would say he is being found out playing at full-back, especially against wingers with pace. May he be the centre forward we've been looking for? He's a decent defender, no question, but his lack of pace would be less exposed if playing up top. Also he's not bad on the ball, and he is excellent in the air from six yards at waist height. Thoughts?

Congratulations from a Chelsea fan

Hey everybody.

Just wanted to pop my head through the door to say massive congratulations on beating us today. Absolutely deserved in every aspect. I have to say I massively envy your fans. Best in the country by miles. Unlike the typical Chelsea fan that just sits there and claps when we score and apart from that are totally silent. Honestly the togetherness you lot have is fantastic and I really hope you can push on this season and maybe get a European place.

Looking forward to the game at your place on 2nd January now, should be a good one.

- Charlie.

Jan Wawrzewski

I went to watch Beckenham Town FC play in the FA Cup today(they lost 4-0). In the clubhouse there are pics and info of notable Beckenham players including Jan Wawrzewski who played for them from 66-81 and scored 52 years in one season. It also said he was on Palace's books.Couldn't find him in Nigel Sands book Player By Player, perhaps a reserve player? Anyone know?

Chelsea away 82, 3-2 win

Today was the first time we have won at Stamford bridge since March 1982, I was there that night, and remember Jerry Murphy match winning free kick. Was wondering who else went that night and what are there memory's .

At the game today... And at the white horse in parsons green after.

Still in a bit of disbelief as to what happened at the bridge and how we played and how far we have come in a year.

Pardew

Hi Newcastle Fan here and i posted when Pards went to you lot he would do well and i never wanted him gone and it is good to see what he can do when he got his own Players in.

I know its early days but i wish he had 50 million to spend on his own Players when he was up here . We will still finish above you lot as we have Steve the tactical genius up here now:confused: Happy days anyway and good luck

Time to change the words to the song?

Whenever I hear 'South London's Number one' sung at Selhurst I kind of think, hmmmmm, so what - let's face it, the only other candidates are Millwall and Charlton, and they're both sh*t. Time, I believe, to change the word 'south' to read 'we're', as the league table shows. Who's in? :)

Player Ratings And Reviews: Chelsea v Crystal Palace

Poll to come.

Chelsea.

Respect when it is due.
Brilliant effort today, fair play and very well done.

We're second

Take a moment and let it sink in.

We're 4 games into the season, just beaten the champions, away and totally out played them. Our second goal was out of this world.

We're second and don't look bad for it EAGLES!

Was this our best ever premier league performance??

We've nicked a win or draw against the "big boys" before but this win for me was our most deserved by miles. Outstanding football against the champions from the 1st to last minute and we deserved the three points

Match Updates: Premier League 29/8

Newcastle vs. Arsenal 0-0 with 25 gone.

Three yellows and a red already for Newcastle and Arsenal should have had a penalty.

Mitrovic's challenge was late but I thought it was a harsh red to be honest.

Tarquins or Quentins?

For me Traquin evokes some sort of old Etonian schoolboy, whereas Quentin is more resonant of a wanna be cool DJ who jumped ship and went to live in Sodom and whose wife fecked an even less talented DJ.

"Selhurst Park will blister your soul"

There was a nice exchange today on American radio regarding Selhurst Park so I added some visuals to it and uploaded to YouTube. Gotta say I love Ray Hudson even before today.

Horror Films - best ones

Always liked wrong turn and hills have eyes sort of ones. Any others worth watching. Newish/recent ones

Getting fed up with girlfriends soap nights, only so much corrie, emerdale, east enders you can take.

are bald women sexy???

Bald on their head I mean!

Just seen Gail Porter in the paper, she looks really pretty and no head hair.

Also Amber Rose, well fit and almost a bone head. Looks awful with head hair.

Even that bird who sang no one compares to you looked not too shabby when she had a cropped hairdo.

And they'd save a fortune on hair care..........

Forgotten password - email deleted (not me)

Wonder if a mod can help.

Beatleboy, who as most can guess is pretty old and senile, has managed to wipe his login details from the computer.

He can't remember what his password is and the email he was registered with appears to have been deleted.

Is there anyway for someone to put a new email on his account or let him know a password?

I'm sure the thought of no Beatleboy will fill most of the bbs with untold joy mind :D

MOT - advice please

Today I am happy, doesn't happen very often, but my car has jst passed its MOT, very surprised as it has a chip in the drivers area of the windscreen.

But it passed and it was a manufacturer garage that passed it (Mercedes).

Reason I didnt get the screen done before the test was because my previous Merc had screen replaced and it leaked when wind and rain were in certain direction.

Anyway, does anyone know how garages measure the chip, I went on line and it seems it can be up to 10mm???

This chip must be nearly that - yet it passed. Do they use anything other than a standard tape measure?

And would it be best to get the chip repaired anyway even though it has MOT??

Anyway Im happy, it passed, got cleaned and vacd and i got 2 free teas and 4 biscuits!!!

IP Phone for dummies

We just moved into a serviced office. Previously we had IP phones, so all calls were basically free and if there was any problem we dialed 9 and went over a BT line. Would this work in an office where you are linked into a larger system? we have our own router so no problem plugging in both thw internet and BT line. I'd just like to know if it will work before I buy a handset.

Stevie Ray Vaughan

27th Aug 1990, Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed when the helicopter he was flying in, hit a man-made ski slope while trying to navigate through dense fog. Vaughan had played a show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wisconsin with Robert Cray & His Memphis Horns, and Eric Clapton. Vaughan was informed by a member of Clapton's crew that three seats were open on a helicopter returning to Chicago with Clapton's crew, it turned out there was only one seat left; Vaughan requested it from his brother, who obliged. Three members of Eric Clapton's entourage were also killed.

Discussion: Selling players for a fee

mercredi 26 août 2015

When are we going to start receiving transfer fees for our players?

By my reckoning we have only actually sold 2 players for a fee in the last 2.5 years since we sold Wilf to Man U in Jan 2013 :

O'Keefe - approx £750k
Campana - approx £1.2m

I know our squad is a lot better now and worth a lot more but we are never going to get a better stadium if we cant start getting good money for our players.

Lewis Grabban suspended by Norwich

What it says in the title. Lewis Grabban has been suspended by Norwich for his refusal to appear on the subs bench for last nights cup game. Sounds like he wants off. ?

Saturdays visit to the library!

Been thinking how we could piss off the chelsea on Saturday.....

Thought about taking some books along for the fun but they would be considered a dangerous weapon so next best think would be a printed book cover on paper!

if we all printed one each or a few each and all take part in a mass sit down and pretend we are reading!!

who's in? :D

S21 Notice to Quit - Help

Ok im a bad guy (landlord). Yea yea yea.

I need to give a notice to quit today and have been all afternoon online trying to figure it out. Anyone out there suitable qualified to give some help?

The tenancy started 27/10/2014 and ends 26/10/2015 I want to give the two months notice (hence today). My question is what date do i put on the form for when i want possession "after".

Apparently a big % of these are done incorrectly and cause delays at the end.

Thanks (unless your a left-wing layabout in which case you can **** right off). :lux::lux::hi::love:

2nd Left Back

After watching last night its clear we need a 2nd choice left back, both Kelly and Ward looked ropey there. Ward is in poor form at the moment so would be disaster to play him there if Souare got injured. Fryers obviously is not going to be considered and both our junior left backs are on loan; Binnom-Williams and Scales (not John Scales son ... This aggravates me asmuch as people who cant get the simple premise of the 25 man squad)

So maybe we need to sign another left back to complete with Souare (who is looking quality)

happy birthday lanepe

Happy birthday Mr Catty xxx

Last Night

Gutted but proud of our lads last night, quite impressed with your fans behind the goal making a noise and the flags etc.

Nice to see some colour at a Premiership stadium, we had Arsenal away in 2011 and that was dull as hell!

Old stadiums are always better, enjoyed last night despite the score, but proud as I said.

Palace fans I met were all a nice bunch, saw a load on the train as I only came from Crawley as work at Gatwick so wasn't that late a night for me.

All the best in the Premier, keep up the good work behind the goal with the flags etc.

Gayle injury?

Can't see this anywhere else...

Towards the end of extra time last night I noticed Gayle holding his right leg, and with a few minutes left to play he came off, leaving us to finish the game with 10 men.

Anyone heard anything further? Hopefully just a bit of cramp and a precaution. Seemed to be walking OK as he went (but then Jedi walked off too).

Looking a bit thin for strikers on Saturday as it is.

Ex Miltary vehicles

Has anyone bought an ex military vehicle? I have my eye on a soft top Defender 11 Seater for use abroad, basically a work horse going to and from beaches and I have found a left hand drive that seems to fit the bill. Any thoughts gratefully received.

Suggestion: Ryan Woods

Worth a punt ?

Looked good last night.

Happy Birthday to ammiller, 50 today

Ammiller, also known as Aidan is 50 today.

Many happy returns.

Spurs away

In true Palace style they seem to be selling tickets to this match now. Just logged on and can buy one on my ST and one on my old man's.

Fundraiser walk for REMF

This is already in the away fans section but a lot of people do not go there. REMF have organised a memorial fund raising walk in memory of Jacob Schilt who died in the Shoreham air crash. In case there are more Palace fans who would like to donate I hope the mods do not mind if I move the link here.

Palace in Japan

mardi 25 août 2015

Following on from To view the link you have to Register or Login (mods feel free to merge if necessary) and the Palace in Hong Kong thread, I think it's about time we had a Palace in Japan thread. Obviously most people are in Tokyo, but I thought I'd keep the title more general in case anyone wants to watch a game in Osaka.

I'm thinking of coming to Tokyo to visit a friend the first weekend of October and the West Brom has a sociable KO of 8:45pm. Looking at To view the link you have to Register or Login it looks like nothing has been released for October yet, but I think every early Saturday kick-off is being televised this month so hopefully it should be on at the Aldgate. Anyone up for coming out for this game?

Burger van

Where has it gone? We seriously need to consider bringing back the promotion season burger van's. Every game I'd get a burger from there, absolutely delicious, then Angus Burgers came along which was expensive and but tasted okay, sometimes pretty cold.

Bring back the burgers!

Match ratings please :).

For those of us at work or couldn't make it for whatever reason can those who were present please do some match ratings cheers:p.

Top Goalscorer

With goals coming from so many different players and positions, rather than just the strikers, it may be exciting to keep track of who our top goalscorer is throughout the season. Has anyone scored 2 yet?

Slightly boring pension question

So I'm moving jobs in a few weeks for the first time in nearly three years.

I have a small pension gained the last two years of employment, but my pension knowledge is nearly zero.

What happens to this when moving jobs? I've not had to worry about this before. Does a pension gained so far move across automatically, or would any new contributions from the new employer or me after the start date continue into the existing pension/provider? (assuming I provide the details of the current pot) - but then I guess the new employer will use a different scheme/provider. (I just went with the default scheme when I started it a few years ago)

Googled a little bit, but it's still not that clear.

Any advice welcome!

Shewsbury Programme

Anyone with a programme season ticket (if that's the correct term!) - can you download the programme for tonight's game, or is it stating you have to pay for this one?

Prioritising the Cup Competitions this season

From Steve Parish;s programme notes last week:-

"It is a priority of mine and Alan's to target the cup competitions this year and try to emulate the success of those legends I listed earlier" (team of the 90s)

"It would be fantastic for this club to add a trophy to the cabinet in the nest few seasons and we'll do our best to achieve that"

For anyone who dreamt of the unimaginable in 1976, 1990 or even in Cardiff in 2012 (fecking Jermain Easter's feeble penalty!), this has to be their ultimate Palace dream.

Being runners up in the FA Cup no longer means a European tour any more, like it has done in the past for the likes of Hull and even Milwall (spit!)

I remember in 2006 at West Ham, Pardew clearly set out a plan for his mid-table West Ham team to try and go all the way in the FA Cup. They even rested their strongest team in preceding league games so that they could give the cup games their very best effort, and came within a whisker of winning the thing.

Obviously you cannot legislate for a rotten cup draw along the way, but with a focussed effort, if there is no pressure in the league, then who knows what a concerted effort could achieve with a few goes? Over the years unlikely teams have managed to win cups through sheer will to succeed.

Mayby 2016 might be just that year? :)

Jermain Defoe's Helper

lundi 24 août 2015

Media reporting he's looking for a personal assistant to do pretty much most things for him other than take him to the toilet, to bed or play for him.

24 hours on call each day, along with planning and running his life between nine and five. £60k per annum.

Hearing the job spec at tedious length on Talk Boll...Sport last night, it struck me how little some of the top footballers want to do for themselves, or are capable of doing.

Anybody fancy applying?

Corner/free kick taker

I know everyone is excited for cabaye this season, but i think puncheon should take the set pieces. last year palace had the most goal off of set pieces and for many of those was because of puncheon. This season cabaye took all of the kicks as i thought he would. I was not impressed. Im not sure if he helped us score a set piece yet. Last game after cabaye got taken off, puncheon got his shot from the corner and dann scored. For this reason i think punch should take at least half of the set pieces. Im not a hater of cabaye. i actually really like him, i just think punch is better in those circumstances.

A Minute's Silence at the Shrewsbury game

At tomorrow night's game against Shrewsbury there will be a minute's silence to remember those who died in the Shoreham plane crash at the weekend - and in particular the two young Worthing FC footballers who so tragically lost their lives.

One of the lads, Jacob Schilt, played in the REMF charity match (Brighton fans v Palace fans) and was known by some of our players including my son Ben (who is pictured with him on the BHA web site). Our sincere condolences to their family and friends at this sad time.

Keshi Anderson Scores 4 Goals As Palace U21's Beat Watford 6-2

This afternoon Palace U21's blitzed Watford U21's 6-2 with Keshi Anderson grabbing 4 goals in this emphatic win.

Paddling to New York

Ok, so a take off of swimming to Cambodia, but seriously, I paddled 32 miles around Manhattan island on Saturday. Took me ten hours but it was fantastic. Didn't sleep well the night before as i rarely do in hotels, and got up so fast when the alarm clock went off, that I had a bout of vertigo and almost didn't make the trip. There were just under 200 of us that put in at the north end of Manhattan. Went down the Hudson past hells gate and the battery, up the east river and back up the Harlem river before reaching the Hudson and the point where we put in. Put in at 9am and got back at 7:30. Had two patrol boats escorting us and four jet skis, plus we were in touch with the coast guard. Every one had a two way radio. Best part was the four or five foot swells from the ships that went by. Stopped for three breaks and had TV cameras following us at one point. No one capsized, not even me, but a couple of people had to drop out. Fantastic trip!

Transferring money from the UK to NZ

As per the thread title - I have no experience of this and would welcome any advice on the safest/cheapest way to go about it.

Many thanks in advance. :)

Sako's goal..

Whats the bloke ,standingin the white shirting saying ?

"FFS Sako don't shoot from there

...oh you have...

GREAT GOAL !"

2 season tickets found at Balham Station

After the Villa game I found 2 season tickets at Balham Station under the names Stuart Woolmer and Christopher Woolmer. If anyone knows them please get in touch.

I've got hold of them at the moment and can arrange to return them at the next home game or by post.

Suggestion: Attilio Lombardo

After seeing him in the crowd on Saturday (was he introduced to the crowd at HT?), could we be lining up the dapper Legend for a DOF, Coach or similar role?

It would be great to see him involved with us again at some level, possibly European scouting as the man just oozes class and would be a great attraction to prospective players.

Another part of the CPFCFamily to re-welcome to the club.

Just One Lombardo

REMF fundraiser Jacob Schilt killed in Shoreham airshow crash

It appears that one of the REMF team has sadly been killed in the crash on his way to play for Worthing.

Jacob Schilt 23.

RIP.

Is it time to solidify the midfield?

First of all, I would like to take the opportunity to congratulate CPFC2010 on the finest transfer window in the history of the club. We have signed a top class goalkeeper in Mccarthy who will be a Premiership regular for a decade or more, we have brought in a midfielder Cabaye who oozes class, a striker in Wickham who will cause havoc, and a winger in Sako who has a hammer of a left foot. Not to mention Bamford who will I am sure have a part to play as the season progresses. We have unquestionably the best squad Crystal Palace have ever had in their history.

It appears difficult even now, despite missing players for various reasons, to accommodate all our stars, such is the embarrassment of riches on offer. Going forward we are a dream, and we will score goals. Already we have scored 3 goals from set-plays, and 2 goals from counter-attacks, plus a screamer from Joel Ward. I don't expect teams to be able to contain us, and we must remain positive, especially at home.

That said, however, it is worrying how little control we seem to have in the midfield. Mccarthur is putting in huge shifts, Puncheon is pulling the strings, and Cabaye will only get better with more game time. This is not a slur on the personnel currently deployed but we look porous in the midfield. There's no protection for the defence because everyone is so far upfield. We are not creating more by having an extra player in the opposition half, and all it means is that other teams are cutting through us at will. The balance is slightly wrong.

I know it's hard to reign in the attacking intent when the manager is so passionate about the team getting forward, especially as the personnel on offer is conducive to this as stated above. But I feel that we need to protect the defence better. No clean sheets in our first 3 games is concerning, despite it being early days for the new system. I'm happy for Cabaye to play box-to-box, but the other midfielder next to him needs to hold, for the good of the team imho. I'd be interested to know other people's thoughts, and have posted a poll too.

How to lift the curse of Shrewsbury

dimanche 23 août 2015

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Bit drastic maybe. But this curse calls for drastic measures. Maybe during the warm-up ?

Sako to striker?

I know everyone is thinking this is a really stupid idea but hear me out. Sako had 6 shots in one game (!) i know that bolasie is out and we will need another winger to fill out our formation. Fot that reason i think that he should play out wide, but i wouldnt sleep on a position change for him. He lacks speed but is strong and has a beautiful shot

Should players flop?

Soccer is filled with people that flop. Every 20 mins someone is on the ground acting like they tore an acl. While sometimes this works to get a free kick, players like zaha get back up and keep playing. I love when zaha gets clearly knocked down and he just gets back up and doesnt give up on the play. He doesnt whine or complain till after the play is done. I feel like palace need to train the players to be more like that.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Shrewsbury

What sort of team are we going to put against Shrewsbury ?

Can anyone recommend a handyman?

I've always tried to pass work into tradesman in the Palace community - anyone know of a reliable handyman in the Croydon area? A few basic jobs (putting up shelving, a few fittings in the bathroom) that I'm unable to do myself because of an injury.

If you're able to recommend someone (or are up for doing a couple of hoursnwork yourself for a reasonable rate), a PM would be much appreciated!

Cheers guys

Sean

Standing Block E Lower holmesdale

A lot of people have now started standing in block E especially near the front and stewards don't seem to do anything about it. At the arsenal game one man tried to get the stewards to do something about it and nothing got done, was the same again against villa. I don't understand why you need to stand up when your in the first 6-7 rows and stand the whole game, when the ball comes towards the holmesdale especial when palace are attacking we all stand up to get better view of what's going on but to stand when the balls down the other end or it's the opposition attacking is pointless and unfair to the people behind. If you want to stand up all the time go join blocks A-C, something needs to be done by the club.

Watching Palace in Pyongyang

Yes I know it's unlikely but we will be there for the Shrewsbury and Chelsea games (assuming war doesn't break out). I am sure there is no way to watch Premier League football there but wanted to start the thread because not sure I would ever get the chance again. Taking some Palace merchandise to a school we're visiting. Will try and post some pictures if we make it back!

Suggested Team and Formation For: Shrewsbury Town

...................................Hennessey
Mariappa. .........Kelly. .........Hangeland. ..........Souare

....Zaha. ...........Jedinak. .......Ledley. .............Lee

..............................GAYLE. ......Bamford

I like 4-4-2

Subs
Mutch
ward
Bannan
Sako
Campbell
McCarthy

Suggested Team and Formation For: Shrewsbury Town

Hennessey
Mariappa-McCarthy-Hangeland-Kelly
Jedinak-Ledley
Zaha-Mutch-Lee
Bamford

Bench:
McCarthy
Ward
Bannan
Guedioura
Williams (is he fit?)
Gayle
Appiah

I would have Bolasie instead of Zaha if he is up for it because he still needs to get his fitness up. I would also consider Kelly at CB and Ledley at LB as McCarthy really shouldn't be playing for us even in cups.

Terry out next week

With John Terry being sent off this week and suspended against us for next week, I just can't see where our goals are going to come from.

Sherwood on Saturday

I went to yesterday's match already in a state of fervent dislike towards Sherwood but I was astonished yesterday by some of his incitement of the main stand (where I was sitting). Did anyone see this???

After the disallowed goal, he turned and made a clear effort to antagonise what was obviously a very angry crowd. After Villa's equaliser, he also turned to the crowd with an expression of mockery designed to wind us up...

I was just surprised because I sit quite near the dugouts and have never seen an opposing manager being quite that brazen in their aggravating behaviour before.

I remember turning to the guy next to me and saying that if we went on to win I would find it amusing but right at that moment I was incensed. (And it was certainly all the more satisfying a victory to see that smile wiped off Sherwood's face!)

But I'm curious as to how to interpret this incident: are I and the rest of the crowd just missing a sense of humour in such instances and ought we to be receiving such banter in a lighter spirit? Or is Sherwood irresponsibly inciting the crowd and deserving of contempt? What are people's views on this?

Whatever the feeling, I have left with an even poorer view of the arrogant, attention-seeking rodent!

May Villa plummet.

Watford u18 0 CPFC u18 0

Draw was probably a fair result.

Watford had a lot of chances in the first half hour and could been 3 or 4 goals up but finishing was pretty awful. Palace didn't have much shape but got better in second half and were more solid and had a couple of half chances but couldn't make them count.

Watford's 2 strikers and no.10 were best I have seen technically for a while - no.10 was from Arsenal but interplay caused problems for palace defence who were all over the place for first half hour.

Second half Palace played a DM and it helped break up play so not much threat from Watford although could have benefitted from a couple of goalkeeping errors.

Corie Andrews played right wing and caused a few problems along with Lumeka on other wing. The Palace CF didn't really offer much.

Palace team: Pain, Wynter, Woods, Jones, Sturgess, Phillips (Hogan 35), Dreher, Andrews (Coker 70), Flanagan (Yehoah 80), Lumeka, Fundi

A bit of a punt, but is there anyone out there who works in this area, please would you PM me as I would be most grateful for some advice about who I should contact about an company who has failed to care.

Newbies/Tourists in the LH

In Block B today there was a chap in the pink away kit of Real Madrid with his gf wearing something... Not sure what it was but it barely covered her arse. Along with a young kid in a Palace shirt with (presumably) his Dad?

Real Madrid fan and gf were asking after 2 minutes to be moved because she couldn't see and was intimidated with everyone standing up.

The son/dad got moved from the front to stand next to them on row 9 (I think) making that overcrowded, the Madrid fan and gf then stood on the steps talking to the steward through the whole game and wanted to move.

Why did the stewards not just move all 4 to the numerous empty seats in the AW?

That way the couple wouldn't of have had to stand when they didn't want too and the Dad could concentrate on the game rather than making sure his boy didn't fall off the seat he was standing on?

Weird situation given how much time the stewards spend telling people to move in off the stairs yet here they actively encouraged it?

Digital Programme

Anyone know if there is any way of saving these to either tablet/phone or computer?

Crystal Ball v Shrewsbury

samedi 22 août 2015

As soon as I can find out what the attendance was, I will update the table and post it To view the link you have to Register or Login Until then, we have a cup game against our historical bogey team.

Because this is a cup game, you need to pick scorers and attendance as per normal. However your score pick is BEFORE a penalty shoot out should one be required. Therefore correct result/score points are awarded for picking the winner at the end of 90 or 120 minutes, if the game is decided by then, PLUS a bonus point for picking if it is in normal or extra time. In the event of a penalty shoot out, that is considered a drawn game and the bonus point is awarded for predicting which team wins the penalty shootout.

Get rubbing your balls and see what pops out...

Suggested Team and Formation For: Chelsea (away)

I'm more confident with each passing game that I know our strongest team. This one is a doddle, especially with Chamakh and Wickham out:

--------------------------Mccarthy---------------------------------------
Ward-----------Dann-----------------Delaney--------------Souare
----------------Cabaye---------------Jedinak-------------------------
--------------------------Puncheon-----------------------------------
Zaha-----------------------Sako-------------------------Bolasie

Subs:

Hennessey
Kelly
Ledley
Mccarthur
Mutch
Murray
Gayle

We need to play a HOLDING midfielder - either Jedinak or Ledley - or our midfield will be ripped to pieces when we don't have the ball yet again. Sako is our biggest goal threat, and so should start upfront. What a signing on a free!

'Football Academies - A side of football no-one talks about'

Speakers in the Holmesdale

Ok - two weeks running the tannoy/music has been virtually inaudible in the holmesdale and it's now pretty obvious none of the speakers at the top of the stand are working...

I know some may see this as a blessing in disguise but I don't think its conducive to building the atmosphere...

Anyone know anything about it or better still, know when it's getting fixed!?!

Condolences to Yannick

Only just heard that Bolasie's dad died, hence his exclusion from the squad (which I'm sure many thought might be because of the press speculation knocking about). Very sad news for him. May his father rest in peace.

Zaha and Murray bust-up

Not seen this mentioned elsewhere.

Murray and Zaha had a huge swearing match at the 'drinks break'. Not your usual type that occurs during a match. Was sad to see and no surprise when neither re-appeared in the second half.

I'm not even sure they sat on the bench for the second half? Sent home by Pardew?

Match Ticket Information Tottenham (a), Sunday 20th Sept 1.30pm

Presumably these tickets must go on sale soon.
Any ideas yet on cost of tickets or how many ParishPoints are needed?

Mile Jedinak said Goodbye today

Mile Jedinak made a fleeting appearance for the closing stages of today's game and his reaction to the final whistle looked very much like a farewell salute to the Palace fans .

He walked to the crowd alone applauded the fans before throwing his shirt to the HF end .

Aston Villa - Arthur Wait Stand

What happened with the fan in the AW that left in the second half and there was like 6/7 stewards with him?

DWIGHT GAYLE must stay

Great tactical switch by Alan Pardew at half time today changed the match in our favour.

Dwight Gayle's introduction at the start of the second have added energy and threat to the Palace front line and turned the game against Villa in our favour .

Want to see the disallowed goal that he struck on MOD tonight . He is the best natural finisher at the Club and has pace, energy and a great first touch . He will continue to improve and can become a Class striker to feed off Chamakh.

He transformed a listless first half Palace display today and the welcome that his introduction received from the Palace faithful today showed how much they appreciate him.

He was our top scorer last season from less than a full season of starts . He has bulked up in Pre Season and we need to keep him at Crystal Palace .

Please AP don't sell Dwight . We need him.

AP went to DG straight away at the final whistle . I hope AP decides he should stay.

Atmosphere v Villa

Was it the sun coming out or the later kick off, but the atmosphere today was so much better than last week v Arsenal.

People seemed so much more up for it ... Could well also be less tourists and more locals attending today?

Either way ... Great day at selhurst!

Display refused for today

Just seen this on HF Facebook;

Unfortunately after all our efforts this week in an attempt to produce another positive display following on from last weeks dissapointment, we have had our display for today's game against Aston Villa refused by the club & council. Next week we are having a meeting with both parties to try and make sure that one of the most unique & positive elements of the Palace culture is not lost to health & safety and petty bureaucracy.

This negativity will be put to the back of our minds for 90 minutes today in order to get behind the lads and to ensure we get our home form up and running. Let's hope for some much needed unity and support from the whole fan base. CPFC - Together our spirit is unbreakable.

Galaxy S5 help please

My wife has one of these phones and there are two problems with settings that we wish to correct. However we are not succeeding and Google is no assistance.

The first is that when we set it up, we used my gmail account to transfer her contacts. Now it is linking to my account. Whenever I get an email on that account, she gets an alert. I tried to delete the account from the phone but it only offered me the option of deleting my google account entirely. Does someone know how to disconnect the account from the phone without deleting my (useful) account?

Secondly, she set up a fingerprint swipe. Then she decided it was a pain because if it failed to read her finger (probably about 80% of the time) she had to type in a full password. Google does tell you how to turn it off but when I follow the instructions (eg from here To view the link you have to Register or Login ) the "None" option which is the key step is "disabled by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage." Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Spanish football

Not just a thread for the Primera Divison, but all Spanish football as I appreciate there are a few on here who go to follow local teams etc. Also we tend to get match specific threads pop up particularly for the Classico matches, would be nice to try and get a proper thread going.

Tonight the proper Spanish season kicked off (not sure if they class the Supercopa as a proper competition or a friendly like the Community Shield) with an Andalucian derby which finished 0-0 between Malaga and Sevilla, Steven N'Zonzi quick to pick up his first red card on his debut.

Back at Palace after a few years

Hi guys, tomorrow is my first time back at Palace for about 5-6 years. I stopped going when my dad got ill and passed away. It was always something we did together and once he passed decided it just would not be the same. Tomorrow is going to bring back a flood of memories both good and bad but mostly happy ones. So if you see a middle aged bloke shedding a tear for no apparent reason it is probably me reminiscing . Obviously things have changed in the past few years, where's the best place to get a couple of beer before the game. Really fancy trying Cronx, any suggestions? Oh I will be sat in the Arthur.

We need your help

Dear Palace fans

I’m a Leyton Orient Fan and come in peace.

In 2012, London hosted a fantastic Olympics, but the legacy of that event could be the very future of smaller football clubs with a long and proud history. The bill for reconversion of the stadium stands at £272m with West Ham United only contributing £15m. Boris Johnson, the LLDC and the government, refuse point blank to publish the rental agreement that sees the taxpayer forking out for repairs, water, electric, pitch maintenance, stewarding and even policing costs, meaning a massive state aid giveaway – an unfair subsidy on competition between ALL clubs, and not just those closest to the Queen Elizabeth Park.

A joint London coalition of several fans trusts including Crystal Palace Supporters’ Trust have started a petition which we urge EVERY football fan and taxpayer to sign – the link to the petition appears below – and to share with friends, family and work colleagues.

Side-o admitted to hospital

Legendary programme seller, Clive Waters, better known as 'Side-o', has suffered a second stroke and is currently in Farnborough Hospital near Orpington. I have been informed that his speech has been affected, but that he is in a stable condition. I am sure that many of you will join me in wishing him a very speedy recovery.

Incidentally, on a less serious note, and I know Side-o won't mind and that he loves to flaunt his celebrity status, if you imbibe copious amounts of magic mushrooms and read the word 'sideburns' in the following text as a name, it throws up some bizarre facts about Side-o's exhilarating life and times:

Recommendations?

Pardew, England the bursting the bubble

there have been several posts about how this wonderful period for Palace fans might crash and burn in the way so many have done before. I think someone called this option a lot earlier but the rumblings of Pardew's suitability for England candidacy have accelerated significantly over the past few weeks.

It fits so well - squad shaping nicely, players citing Pardew as the reason they are here (albeit standard fare these days), big investements all round and life feels good. Nothing can go wrong. Ahhhhhhhh, it's Palace, come one. Media decides it's ready to start the Hodgson out campaign (so boring and FFS why can't they just report the news instead of creating it). Pards gets whiff of it and ego kicks in as it would with most and the campaign starts.

It would be nice to have a manager for 5 or 6 years but I am not sure we will finish 2 seasons.

I am not panicking at this stage because surely they wouldn't pick a Manager found guilty of head butting a player on TV? No surely not going to happen. .........

Roller coaster it is then. Let's enjoy the good bit for now and worry about it when it happens.

Why are Palace addictive?

I am personally obsessed with Palace. I suspect a lot of others on here are too. For illustration only, and not for comparison: I will watch the match highlights on palace player at least 3 times even if we lost. Palace websites always come up first on any wireless device in the house even ahead of CBeebies and Disney difficult when you have kids under 10. But why?
Why?
Is it because we play skillful football?
I tell myself to it is because we are either up down or on a cup run. But am I right? Please discuss.

Decent bars

Hello all,

I am going to The Oval on Friday to watch the Ashes with a friend (both male).

We are both from Sussex and fancy hitting a couple of decent bars after the cricket (by decent I mean good atmosphere, fairly lively, bit of style etc).

So here lies the question, can anyone recommend an area/street with some decent bars fairly close to The Oval (doesn't have to be on its doorstep but being close is an obvious advantage).

Thanks in advance :p

Probably my favorite player. Showed great for Columbia and for Fiorentina. With the departure of bolasie we could be able to afford him. For all you camera buffs, which is the best camera for a complete beginner? It'll mainly be used for still shots, but probably a few action shots.

Which is the most robust and idiot proof? ie which one won't break if I get it wet or drop it

And do I really need the 3 lenses that the Sony is offered with? I know SLR lenses ain't cheap anyway, but I'm only using it for recreational photos...

Dogs in Restaurants ?

Discussion topic on palace fan Matthew Wright's show this morning.

One lady phoned up to say that she would take her dogs to a restaurant for a night out! Even if the people next to her were allergic to dog fur, tough we all have allergies. Am I alone in thinking WTF!

Not only do they cause people to heat up and come out in rashes or choke, they smell, drool, bark, wander around under tables and good luck with that piece of rare kobi on your plate. Not to mention the owner asking for a plastic bag scenario!

Its bad enough people take their babies and young kids into restaurants after 8pm in an evening, this is beyond selfishness. I WANT WANT WANT, F THE LOT OF YOU attitude. This happens in the US, but sorry fellow eagles stateside, that don't make it a good thang.

Guide dogs accepted of course. You never see a badly turned out guide dog, which is remarkable considering the state of the owners eyesight.

If you look at how strong our second 11 payers are now, you truly see the depth in the squad and just how far we have come in two seasons. Where we started Dobbie & Garvan in the first prem game.

Call to punish GPs over antibiotics

News report headlining today on the BBC News website.

Whereas it is a given that bugs are becoming more and more resistant to antibiotics, I seriously doubt the figures that are being quoted regarding the number of "inappropriate" prescriptions from GPs.

"The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence's Prof Mark Baker said 10 million prescriptions a year in England were inappropriate."

He offers no evidence for these large numbers at all, and also says later in the report:

"..... 97% of patients who asked for antibiotics ended up getting them, often by identifying a "soft-touch" doctor."

All very well but then he concludes by saying:

"Prof Mark Baker, director of the organisation's centre for clinical practice, said: "We are proposing that evidence is collected so the finger can be pointed at people who are a soft touch."

So the inference from that last statement is that evidence has not yet been collected, so how can he make all his previous statements, and be believed.

No doubt, there is a huge problem, but these kind of unsubstantiated statements leading to calls for GPs to be punished, are not helpful.

I also worry a bit that NICE's raison d'etre is to keep down costs for the NHS, but do they always do this in the best interests of us, the patients, rather than for the government of the day.

View from the back of the Arthur?

I'm planning on making my first trip down to Selhurst (aside from Jules' testimonial) this Saturday. It's my first league game down at Selhurst for 3 years since I had held a season ticket in the Lower Holmesdale for 9 years. (I've been to a few games up North in the past few years.

Ideally I would like to have had my old seat back! However I'm going to have to sit in the Arthur as there are no tickets left in the Holmesdale. I'm trying to get the best seat possible so I'm wondering if people can give me some advice. I like to sit reasonably far back in the stand so I can get an overview of the pitch. I'm aware that all seats will have an impact on the view because of the pillars. There are quite a few seats in the back sections of quite a few of the blocks, however does the relatively new commentators box impede the view from back there. Alternatively there looks to be some decent seats around 22 rows back in the block next to the away fans.

Any help on what the view is like from the Arthur would be appreciated. I don't want my first trip down in a few years spoilt by a poor seat!

Thanks

Found My Home at Selhurst Park

I'm 33 years old. I grew up as an FC Bayern supporter. As an American growing up in a German family, I thought that's what I was supposed to do. Only now I realize after my recent conversion, you don't pick your club - it picks you. It's a strange thing for my to explain any better than that because my whole life has been structured, to include my football support. But ever since CPFC beat Watford in the playoff, I knew this was my football home. I wish I could explain in greater detail, but there's no words to sum up your home. You just know when it when you're there. I can't wait to make the pilgrimage this season to Selhurst Park. I had to convince the wife and a few of my friends (and their wives) to do it - but we're coming. See you there. - Jesse

Suggestion: Joleon Lescott

Block E section - Shrewsbury cup tie

For our upcoming cup tie against Shrewsbury we have secured Block E for the main vocal section that is available to all Palace fans.

Being behind the goal is the perfect place for the atmosphere to spread across the whole Holmesdale and another good opportunity to see what it would be like having the main vocal support in that area. Get your ticket online now from the club and select Block E. Its not the biggest glamour tie but being behind the goal should make sure that the players will still get a decent support.

WE ARE THE HOLMESDALE!
