Prioritising the Cup Competitions this season

mardi 25 août 2015

From Steve Parish;s programme notes last week:-

"It is a priority of mine and Alan's to target the cup competitions this year and try to emulate the success of those legends I listed earlier" (team of the 90s)

"It would be fantastic for this club to add a trophy to the cabinet in the nest few seasons and we'll do our best to achieve that"

For anyone who dreamt of the unimaginable in 1976, 1990 or even in Cardiff in 2012 (fecking Jermain Easter's feeble penalty!), this has to be their ultimate Palace dream.

Being runners up in the FA Cup no longer means a European tour any more, like it has done in the past for the likes of Hull and even Milwall (spit!)

I remember in 2006 at West Ham, Pardew clearly set out a plan for his mid-table West Ham team to try and go all the way in the FA Cup. They even rested their strongest team in preceding league games so that they could give the cup games their very best effort, and came within a whisker of winning the thing.

Obviously you cannot legislate for a rotten cup draw along the way, but with a focussed effort, if there is no pressure in the league, then who knows what a concerted effort could achieve with a few goes? Over the years unlikely teams have managed to win cups through sheer will to succeed.

Mayby 2016 might be just that year? :)
