Tory Election Promises - Will They Deliver?

lundi 11 mai 2015

This is not to discuss the right or wrongs of these pledges, merely a way to see if they stick to them. Might be fun to revisit this in 5 years time ;)

This is purely about the promises that were made in the election campaign, not existing policy. So here's what they said they would do (according to the Beeb). Feel free to add any that have been missed:

1) Introduce a law guaranteeing no rise in income tax rates, VAT or national insurance before 2020
2) Invest an extra £8bn a year for the NHS by 2020
3) Hold a referendum on membership of the EU by 2017
4) Open 500 more free schools
5) Extend the right-to-buy scheme to housing association tenants in England
6) Build 200,000 starter homes
7) Ensure all people who work 30 hours per week on the minimum wage pay no income tax
8) Double free childcare allowance for three and four-year-olds to 30 hours
9) Increase the inheritance tax threshold on family homes to £1m by 2017
10) Make sure there are no above-inflation rises in rail fares until 2020

Obviously some more controversial than others if not acted upon. Personally I think 1, 3, 7 and 10 are the ones to keep an eye on in particular.
