Palace Radio Goal of the Season. Please cast your vote.

vendredi 8 mai 2015

On an earlier thread, you helped nominate those goals to go on the shortlist. Taking your views into account, plus those on Twitter, we ended up with a list of six. We'd be very grateful if you now vote for you favourite.

Unlike some years, there is no obvious winner, and I can see it being a very close contest, so your vote really counts! Please use the poll to cast it, but we will be reading out some of the comments, so by all means explain your reasoning for your choice on the thread.

I append below brief details of each, in case you can't recall any. They are taken from the match reports on the website, in chronological order – so as to display no favouritism!

1. Jedinak. Home to Liverpool. This was the 3rd goal in our 3-1 win. “The Palace fans were in dreamland as Gayle won a free-kick after Skrtel pulled his shirt 30 yards from goal and Jedinak stepped up to bend the ball into the top corner, leaving Mignolet no chance and put the result to bed.”

2. Puncheon. Home to Spurs. This was the winner in our 2-1 win, coming about 10 minutes after Gayle had equalised. “That lifted the crowd and the Palace players, and after plenty of pressure with 10 minutes left they went in front. Pardew threw on Wilfried Zaha and he wriggled past two Spurs defenders to allow himself the chance to find Puncheon, and he whipped the ball first-time into the bottom corner from 18 yards to send Selhurst in delirium”

3. Gayle. Away to Burnley. This was the late winner in our 3-2 win, coming back from 0-2 down. “But with three minutes to go Palace incredibly, but deservedly, edged ahead. Puncheon drifted a fine ball into the box for Gayle, who allowed his first touch to get away from him before sliding the ball past Heaton into the bottom corner to send the travelling Eagles fans into raptures, and the visitors held on to claim a huge three points.”

4. Chamakh. Away to Southampton (FA Cup). He scored twice in this game, but the nomination is his second goal, which turned out to be the winner as we came from behind to win 3-2. “But it was Palace who would get their noses front for the first time in the contest on 38 minutes. After some fantastic build-up play from Zaha, Ward’s clipped ball over the top of the Saints defence found Chamakh inside the area who controlled the ball on his chest to take it past Forster and slot into the net.”

5. Puncheon. Home to Man City. This was the second goal in our 2-1 win. “And incredibly four minutes after the break Pardew's men went two goals ahead. Murray was bundled over by Fernandinho 25 yards from goal and in Mile Jedinak's absence Puncheon stepped up and brilliantly curled the ball over the wall and into the net with Hart grasping thin air.”

6. Bolasie. Away to Sunderland. This was the game when he got a hat-trick. The nominated goal is his second (our third) in the 4-1 win. “He only had to wait a couple of minutes for his next on 52 minutes when he raced onto the end of Mile Jedinak's raking pass, and Bolasie managed to get in front of John O'Shea to brilliantly loft the ball over all 6'8'' of the Romanian shot-stopper to net the Eagles' third goal in a manic five minute spell.”
