I find this story surprising. The little boy taken to Spain by his parents, who have now been arrested under an EU warrant and held for three days.
Obviously, the full rights and wrongs depend to a great degree on just how sick the child is, and whether the British hospital are able to offer effective treatment. And child protection, so topical at the moment, is key. But, on the face of it, arrest and potential deportation, separating the child from his parents and the release of confidential medical information seem very heavy-handed. He has, after all, been taken to another hospital within the EU. If the use of Spanish police is good enough, why not trust Spanish doctors too?
