If YOU were England manager and had the power to make this decision, would you?
For me, Wayne Rooney has been on the decline for the last couple of years. Any pace that he used to have has completely gone, and his overall ability to take a game by the scruff of the neck and really affect the outcome seems to be minimal at best. For England especially, he simply doesnt fit into the system/style. We are never going to dominate possession, so we heavily rely on our ability to win possession and hit teams on the break quickly. Rooney just seems to slow everything down.
10 years ago, Wayne Rooney was the most exciting English player Ive seen since Gazza. He now looks like a player that is going through the motions and isnt capable of the brilliance he once was.
Is he worth a spot ahead of the likes of Sterling, Barkley & Oxlade-Chamberlain?
