My home practice amp is a Kustom Tube 12A using a 12AX7 valve.

It now turns on but I get no output, I have tried other leads and another guitar so I'm beginning to suspect that the valve has died. It suddenly happened, not whilst I was playing though, and the amp never gets moved. So, what happens when a valve dies? Does it just die like a light bulb or fade out?
I'm wondering because I'm either going to buy a new valve or it is something else which has popped and it needs to go to the shop for fixing....
Thanks for help and advice
