Crystal Ball: Can the Eagles eat the Foxes?

I'm probably going blind, but I looked high and low, but couldn't find a thread. So I started one. Please merge if I missed it

Usual rules, scores, scorers and attendance please

Any help appreciated

I am not a techie . Got loads of CDs ( old fashioned i know ) which i have copied many to PC . I enjoy transferring to my Nokia 3.1 Android and listened using bluetooth . It was quite an old phone and the USB port was damaged so i have just replaced with a Nokia G22 .
Quite happy with new phone but i am having problems transferring music from Media Go on pc . I had no problems before using a USB cable with A and micro connectors . However my new phone has C Connector at one end of USB cable ( as most do now ) . I have bought an A To C Adaptor and a USB cable which has A and C connectors . However although my PC does recognise the Nokia 22 it will not allow me to transfer the music - the message i get is

Media Go has detected the Nokia Device but cannot access the device storage .
Any ideas please ?

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Least watchable in Europe? According to ESPN

jeudi 30 mars 2023

Sorry if posted anywhere else. Not usually a fan of ESPN but hard to argue here: To view the link you have to Register or Login

Don't watch unless you have a rooting interest (Grade: 0-1)
98. Crystal Palace (0.4)

Three of the bottom-five teams are from the low-scoring LaLiga, but the bottom team overall hails from South London.

There's nothing worse than growing worse and less watchable at the same time. Palace haven't won a match in 2023 and just fired Patrick Vieira after spiraling into the relegation fight. Replacing Vieira with the 75-year-old Roy Hodgson is entertaining in its own way, but it probably won't make them much more entertaining. They don't create good shots (especially against good opponents), they don't press much (or well), they attempt verticality, but aren't very good at it, and they don't even have the decency to be outright terrible in defense -- their matches average just 2.1 total goals.

BBS 6 a side at Selhurst

On Saturday 4th June we will be holding our BBS 6 a side cup again.
For those who don't know this is for Palace fans ran and organised by Palace fans.
We have full use of Selhurst so use of the changing rooms and of course the chance to play on the pitch.
It is £150 per team with a maximum of 9 players per team.
If you would like to enter a team please post here or PM me

Mods please can you make this a sticky

Chat GPT

mercredi 29 mars 2023

Just wondering how many people on here are using this in their working lives.

I've got a feeling that I should keep up with this technology as it could be far more intrusive and important in our daily lives than people seem to realise.

My youngest daughter uses it daily in her working life, which is basically training executives and CEO's to utilise the geo-mapping services her company provides, A CSM role.... So she sets up lots of templates (and spreadsheets for some reason) etc with it. The thing is it's reduced her workload by 60pct or more. Plus she says it seems to anticipate her questions now. Which is why I'm asking if others are using it?

Is this tech even more important, or life-changing than the development and implementation of the internet in people's lives?

Chat GPT seems to be at the forefront and the best example currently of AI technology that seems to have some of the top IT bods in the world issuing warning statements.

I think we all need to keep an eye on it and for us over 50's maybe keep a proper handle on it, otherwise, we'll be potentially disabled in a sense when it comes to the world of IT, asking offspring and others for help with it etc.

Learning the guitar

Bought myself a 2nd-hand guitar and I've got my first lesson next week. :)

As a lefty, it's been strung the other way for me.

Just wondering what advice any BBS guitarists would offer to a total novice. How to maintain motivation discipline to practice when things get tricky etc... :p

Bring a Scarf To Selhurst

Bring a Scarf to Selhurst
Just an idea. We need to really raise our game for the remaining 10 games especially at home, always thought it looks good when scarfs are raised in abundance or twirled,
I was thinking for the remaining home games we all bring our scarves!
Something all four sides of Selhurst can get involved with
Young - Old - boy - Girl etc etc

I recently went to Germany and saw most teams do this and it visually looked great and at the same time raised the atmosphere.
Pretty sure most fans if not all fans have a scarf.

Good news after talking to the club there is now a flash sale on scarves / gloves / hats ending on Sunday ❤️💙 #cpfc

3 ..Got Lazy under Pat like half the team did...

We need the match winner GOAT to save us again !

Any pub suggestions?

F.A.0 Dog owners locally.

Afternoon all , 2 dogs have sadly died after suspected poisoning at Millers pond in Shirley and several dogs taken ill after going over nearby ( for me) high elms. Farnborough church fields appears ok currently. Just thought I’d give fellow dog owners the heads up.

The Grateful Dead

Is anyone on here a Dead Head? Just finished Scorsese’s long film/documentary on the band on Amazon - Long Strange Trip and found it fascinating. They never really came on my radar in the 1970/80s although I recognised the album covers. But watching this, and hearing the less “off the wall” music got me interested in the songs, if not the whole counter culture, LSD trickster thing. There is some really good and interesting stuff there that you can trace influences to music today.

Which relegation hurt you the most?

Relegation seems to be on everyone’s mind at the moment.

So which of our seven post war relegations, broke your heart the most?

Here’s our Graham with a quick reminder…

1972/73

After our first years ever in the top flight and three seasons of struggle, we finally succumb at the fourth campaign. A season of change behind the scenes with Big Mal and Ray Bloye replacing Bert Head and Arthur Wait as manager and chairman respectively. A late Norwich goal in the penultimate match of the season relegates us.

1973/74

Successive relegations. In the first season of three up, three down, a draw in the final game at Cardiff keeps them up but relegates us to Division 3.

1980/81

A tumultuous season sees four different managers, two different chairmen, and relegation from the top flight, finishing rock bottom and mathematically down a month before the end of the season.

1992/93

The Oldham season. A 3-1 home win to Ipswich a week before the end of the season sees us 7pts clear of the drop. To survive, Oldham would have to win their last 3 games (one, away against title chasing Villa), and hope we didn’t get more than a point in our final 2 games. Virtually impossible. A week later we were relegated at Arsenal, on a record 49pts with Ian Wright adding to the pain of it all. Two years after finishing the 3rd best team in the land, we take our place in the second tier. Typical P…..

1994/95

The only time four teams are automatically relegated from the top flight and we finish fourth to bottom. A defeat at Leeds in midweek leaves survival improbable. A defeat at Newcastle on the last day seals our fate.

1997/98

A season that started so promisingly, ends in disaster. Goldberg replaces Noades and three different managers - one of them Noades, sees us relegated in bottom place, after a home mauling to Man U with still three games left to play.

2004/5

Survival Sunday, when the bottom four teams all had a chance of saving themselves. Norwich and Southampton are being beaten out of sight, and with 10 mins to go we are staying up, leading Charlton 2-1 at the Valley. Charlton equalise on 82 mins and bottom placed WBA leapfrog us and Dowie’s men are relegated.

Diablo IV (Open Beta)

Anyone downloaded this?

Have been in the queue to connect for 45 mins. Got another 20 or so minutes to go, depending on who gets impatient and/or drops the connection :)

If it's like the closed beta, then you can get to L25 in the Beta; at L20 you can get a pet.

More Bus Strikes?

Before the bus strikes started, I saw people yelling at the bus drivers about not driving the bus because they cant get to work. But its not really the bus driver's fault is it? They want better pay because of inflation, is that too hard to ask. I think its good there standing up for themselves. Are there any bus drivers in this forum that can comment on this

Seaweed scouting tool

To view the link you have to Register or Login

This is apparently the service that the seagull twats use for scouting, as seen on an argus news article warning that Bloom could want his money back at some point, or have some bad business etc. That's the reason I read the article, honest! ;)

Anyway, someone get on the blower to Dougie, pronto :)

I know there are a couple of scouting databases out there, not least Opts and also some use the Football Manager database!

Anyone know of any other scouting systems to help Dougie to get great players in cheap? :)

Resident Evil 4 remake

It’s out tomorrow, 24/03/23 and has received rave 10/10 reviews from all corners to the best of my knowledge. Has anyone else played the free ‘Chainsaw’ demo on PS Store and imagine similar on Xbox. I loved the original, and feel this was well overdue a remake especially after the success RE2 remake which was awesome - not played RE3 remake - but understand that was a tad disappointing

Iconic Palace moments

Forgive my self-indulgence and this having no doubt been done endlessly already but as we are going back to the past (hi Roy) I was talking with my son about my most memorable Palace moments as a supporter and these are they for all sorts of reasons, in no particular order.
Some overlap I know but I was at most of these from 1979 onwards:
Would be keen to hear others' thoughts.

1 Cup Semi Final 1990
2 Stockport Dougie 2001
3 Burnley promotion 1979

Selhurst matches
1 Blackburn 3-0 Play Off 1989
2 Armstrong header and Southgate worldie vs Portsmouth 1993
3 Crowd trouble vs Birmingham 1988

Away matches
1 4-5 loss vs Blackburn 1988
2 6-0 win vs Birmingham 1986
3 Stockport - Dougie 2001

Cup matches
1 Liverpool 4-3 Semi 1990
2 3-3 Man Utd Final 1990
3 1-0 in the snow vs Forest 1987 - Irvine goal

Worst ever
1 Claridge shin 1994
2 Relegation in 1993
3 Administrations

Bizarre Moments
1 Cantona 1995
2 5 penalties vs Brighton 1989

Multiple injuries after ship tips over at Edinburgh dockyard

Not a good look for the British ship repair business.

Some heads will roll for this I'm sure.

Hope injuries were minor, and the ship can be saved/repaired.

Bring a Scarf to Selhurst

Just an idea. We need to really raise our game for the remaining 10 games especially at home, always thought it looks good when scarfs are raised in abundance or twirled,
I was thinking for the remaining home games we all bring our scarfs!!
Something all four sides of Selhurst can get involved with
Young - Old - boy - Girl etc etc

I recently went to Germany and saw most teams do this and it visually looked great and at the same time raised the atmosphere.
Pretty sure most fans if not all fans have a scarf.

Thoughts?

replacing oven door glass

Just a quick question for anyone more DIY savvy than me, which means basically anyone. The inner glass on my hotpoint oven shattered. Hotpoint no longer stock spares and can't suggest an alternative. Anyone know if you can get replacement glass made anywhere?

CPFC Evolution , starting NOW

I remember hearing that CPFC was a ‘Sleeping Giant’ because of the catchment area that we have , well that hasn’t changed has it , we are just not presenting football of a high enough quality to attract more fans , i can recall crowds in excess of 30,000 - 40,0000 at Selhurst in the recent past (OK that was a long while ago) but my point is we are at a split in the road at the moment & we have crucial decisions to make in the next 2-3 Months.

Another thing that , IMO , Needs to change is the old Boys Club we have here , Freedman , McCarthy , Salako , Bright , Derry (these sort of appointments) were they hired because they were the best available or bacause they “understand” the club , whoever that means , we could massively benefit from fresh ideas & new faces that could take us forward.

The Board is a MAJOR concern at the club , 3 of our 4 Shareholders already have an interest in another team or have shown that they wish to have an involvement in another team , this doesn’t & wont benefit us going forward because it hasn’t worked in th past & wont in the future , it’s holding us back.

We will benefit massively from identifying signings based on our actual playing style , which is currently up for question , we are not an attractive enough club , at the moment to draw the players who can take us forward.

Player exodus if relegated

I wasn’t particularly worried about relegation prior to Veira sacking but apparently we are deep in a relegation battle.

So as Palace are not hot on forward or succession planning, thought it be worth considering which players would likely be off if we go down, and keeping in mind that Hodgson couldn’t stop Watford’s freefall, and who are the ultimate panic button pressers

Zaha / free
Eze / seems distracted after reported toon interest prior to WC

Too good to stay ;
Ghuei
Olise
Mitchell
Andersen?

Also which younger players maybe offered new contract, that may not have been kept on if retain premier league status ;
Banks ?

Quote:

Gwyneth Paltrow is in a US court as a civil trial begins over claims she seriously injured a man in a "hit-and-run" skiing accident in Utah in 2016.

The actress is being sued by retired optometrist Terry Sanderson, who has alleged Paltrow crashed into him at the Deer Valley resort in Park City.

The original claim, filed in 2019, said: "This case involves a hit-and-run ski crash at Deer Valley, Utah, where defendant Gwyneth Paltrow skied out of control and hit the back of Terry Sanderson, another skier, who was downhill, knocking him down hard, knocking him out, and causing a brain injury, four broken ribs and other serious injuries.

"Paltrow got up, turned and skied away, leaving Sanderson stunned, lying in the snow, seriously injured."

Here's what I really don't get. How come she didn't just heal him with some of her "The Goop Lab" alternative medicine? Surely there was some ointment she could of put on his wounds?

This season

I know things are far from perfect right now. We all wanted Vieira to work out, we all thought we'd be further down the route of progress, we all expected the club to invest in a couple of new additions to the squad where it's blindingly obvious we don't currently have PL quality, no one expected Roy back, no one expected us to be deep in a relegation battle.

Let's just get behind the club for the last 11 games, then in the summer let's hope we're still in the PL and demand more ambition, a progressive manager, good investment in players and hopefully a new start.

It is what it is right now, let's give the team everything we have.

Hodgson and Parish out!!!

lundi 20 mars 2023

Absoloutly disgusted!!! Was right getting rid of vieira but what the hell is parish playing at. I don’t usually rant but I am so ashamed and disgusted. I will not be buying another ticket till hodgson is gone. Worst football I have seen end of his tenure. There are so many decent managers out there!!! Parish as totally contradicted everything we have been doing. I couldn’t care less if there are issues in the boardroom if there are any. He needs to grow some b******s and come out and tell the fans what is going on. No way should we be appointing a 75 year old manager that has no ambition other than to keep us up. We are well past just staying in the division. We could start a project now with a new manager and still stay up. There aren’t words that describe how much of a disgrace this whole situation is!!!

More likely to go down without Veira?

Can’t see the logic in sacking Veira, as predicted low return of points in the run we just had was universal expected except for a few blind optimists. That makes the decision all the more worrying

Also conclusive evidence that we didn’t/don’t have a replacement lined up, So how the **** does that help us stay up? Are we going to wheel in Hodgson…

If your going to reply about sleepwalking into relegation etc etc maybe divebombing into relegation now!

Warsaw, Polish eagles

Hello, don’t suppose there is a Palace fan contingent in Warsaw is there? Moving out there this summer.

Palace attack fallacy under Vieira

This deserves its own thread. There seems to be some weird notion that because we didn’t score or create it was Vieira’s fault and that our attacking players are superstars and underperforming.

The attacking players aren’t good enough, and our best one was out injured for a huge chunk of our poor run. This is one of the misconceptions that I think Parish has, and it is colouring his decision making, culminating in sacking a fantastic young manager who needed support rather than the boot.

Olise is superb, but lacks pace for wing + underlying goals nos not there.
Zaha is our GOAT but can no longer do it on his own (down on pace)
Eze is talented but lacks pace to do it in the PL, especially post injury
Edouard lacks pace and strength to do it in the PL regularly. Can finish
Mateta is one of the worst signings of recent times. Totally shit.
Ayew can’t score. Lacks pace.
Schlupp is a 1 in 10 player that plays for ten minute bursts.

Can you see the theme there? Where is this ******* attacking talent everyone talks about that’s going to score all the goals? I can’t see it. Edouard might get a few with proper service, Zaha should get enough of the rest to keep us up this season now fixtures are easing. Olise will be a fantastic 8 or 10 in time. We just aren’t good enough in the attacking third. There’s no pace once you take Zaha out of the equation, and even he is down on the decent pace he had 4 years ago. The rest of them are Championship standard when it comes to pace levels. Even the clubs below us in the PL have a pacy front line and will score more goals than us. We have lots of tricky players, but even if they were all goalscorers the lack of pace would cause problems with the balance of the side. Olise will be a superstar for us in midfield. But the entire front line needs replacing in the summer with new FIRST XI players:

1) New left winger
2) New centre forward
3) New right winger

That’s what we need, but whether we will get it remains to be seen. Mateta, Edouard, Eze can all be sold and Ayew and Schlupp can go too if they are not happy to be squad players. Keep Olise, but understand he won’t ever be the flying right winger some people think he will be. He’s not that type of player. He didn’t beat Zinchenko once yesterday, he’s not a goalscorer. He is a creative type of player who will score 5-8 goals a season playing behind the front 3, and run hard box to box linking the play. Gallagher papered over our attacking limitations by chipping in with lots of goals which made it seem we were better in this area than we were. The truth is we struggled to create last season unless the press robbed the opposition high up. We created nothing ourselves from having ball in our own half. Even before that we were a counter attacking team relying on Wilf to do it on his own. You have to go back to when we had Bolasie and Zaha before you find a decent attacking Palace side.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Arsenal 4-1 Palace

Just got back and what a depressing afternoon, as soon as the first goal went in we caved and players were niggling at each other. Mitchell was completely schooled by Saka, as destroyed as I’ve seen any full back for years, whoever made the decision that for two years we didn’t need any backup or alternative for him has a lot of explaining to do. Tomkins over Richards was baffling, made zero sense. Eduoard is the most weak willed footballer we’ve had since Julian Gray. Schlupp, god bless him, was actually pretty good today.

Freedman out ?

Could be the problem , sucsession of disastrous signings , promising recruits farmed out on loan and never heard of again , mediocre players signed for too much money ,while the likes of Fulham , Brighton , Villa and Brentford seem make shrewd signings and keep moving the club forward without spending Man u or Chelsea money .

Ferguson, Banks , Meyer , Sorloth , Jach , Reidewald , Edourard, Mateta, Plange to name a few

Olise Andersen and Guehi were already well know and established

looking for a Wilf replacement why is Malcolm Ebiowi not back here getting minuets ?

McCarthy Out

Has taken us backwards in his time in charge. Time we looked in a new direction.

If we win the Arsenal game I will...

Wear my palace shirt every day this week including to the office

Wanting scummy teams to win games so that it benefits us

I absolutely hate it and I can't really bring myself to do it on a regular basis. Eg, I have just watched MOTD and I didn't know the Chelsea - Everton score. I laughed out loud when Everton equalised.

Towards the end of the season, I will accept that it is just part of the position we find ourselves in. I'm sure I'll want Chelsea to beat Bournemouth and Man Utd to beat Wolves. But now I just feel dirty about this sort of stuff and I can't bring myself to do it.

Anyone else feel like this?

Leicester (h) Saturday 1st April 3pm

I see the Leeds game has now been moved as mentioned in the other thread.

Slightly m off topic, but what’s the score these days with the Leicester match - is it still a full blown rail strike on the 1st April or are some operators serving?

Are Palace fans part of our problem?

WHAT? HOW DARE YOU? I hear you all say.

I am proud of the Palace fan base on the whole, we tend to be a passionate but sensible bunch, but, is that a problem to achieve success?

Are we too sensible to get this club on its toes to compete? Do we accept too much?

I tend to find most palace fans value a stable and well run club, not to overspend (like the money is coming from our own pockets) and continue to support our manager and players far longer than most clubs appear to.

In your opinion - should we not be much more demanding of our players, manager and board? Should we be more unreasonable in the pursuit of success? Should we insist on higher quality signings?

vendredi 17 mars 2023

Lets be honest, our playing style isnt going to bet Arsenal. Arsenal is at the top of the league and they don't seem like they will lose a game any time soon.

Don't get me wrong im always rooting for palace but come on. I think we will lose 2-0.

Yep, will be interesting. I imagine Paddy would have taken first team training this morning, although players are usually done quite early before they move into the gym, so he could end up doing both! Hopefully Brighty is on commentary today, would love to hear what he has to say!

Goodman could well play and still be on the bench for Sunday. Izquierdo has been trusted on the U21 bench for the majority of the season, so we could see him. The U18 squad also has Shala and Eastwood so plenty of goalkeepers to go round still!

DF out!

Has let Viera down. A total shambles of a football director. Can anyone really say he has done anything positive? Good goalscorer but lets be honest, other than a few brief moments, he was a poor manager and he is out of his depth in this role. Also heard he is on the take with a few agents which is probably why we have been shambolic in the market.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Brighton 15/03/23 1-0 L

mercredi 15 mars 2023

Some views away from the live comms.

Can already tell who’s going to be MOTM. :D and rightly so.

What did we do the first 10 minutes of the game?

I’d like someone more astute to tell me what we did the first 10 minutes vs the rest of the game. We had chance after chance.

Was what we were doing not sustainable? Ie we just went all out ?

Or did Brighton adjust?

The 1-0 losses hopefully are about to end!

Did they really?

OK, we may have been beaten by the marginally better team, but did my eyes deceive me or;

Did "they" really get their phones out like it was a ******* Adele concert when the floodlights flickered?

Was the ground half empty with 5 mins to go

Did the remainder of their fans head for the exits bang on final whistle, leaving Steele to try celebrating in front of an empty stand with those remaining having their backs turned on him.

All in all, they are a pretty sorry bunch

mardi 14 mars 2023

Yes I know, League 2 but he has scored 5 in as many games and the one I was present to see a week ago in a defeat against Mansfield was a little Wilfesque as He carried the ball forward , stopped, stood the defender up and then burst past the defender like he wasn't there before cutting in and burying his shot inside the near post. It was more impressive seeing it live but check out the video link below from about 35 seconds He is a young Iraqi international and worth a look if nothing else. Not sure about his work rate and the Dons did lose this one 3-1 but he certainly has some talent. Ed I note he also got t the Dons goal tonight v Newport

Do or Die on Wednesday

This really feels like a last chance for Vieira on Wednesday. I don't agree we should get rid of him, however, if we take a pasting mid-week, it wouldn't surprise me.

The players simply need to step up now. It will be an extremely tough game, but we have to get this win from somewhere, surely?

We've seen too many half hearted performances this season - so what better game than Brighton to prove to the fans they care?

Google Wallet question

Hoping the BBS can answer this, because there's zero chance of finding the info through Ticketmaster.

The new smart-phone type of concert tickets have a bar that sweeps across the barcode which updates itself all the time, so you can't take a screenshot of the ticket any more. The Ticketmaster App keeps telling me to "Save to your phone and beat busy network connections at the event".

My question - and I can guess the answer - is this: if I save the ticket to Google Wallet, will it still work through the Ticketmaster App if I go that route, or does adding it to Google Wallet effectively invalidate the Ticketmaster App ticket?

I suspect it doesn't, and that either will work, but need to know for sure as it's a long way to go from Sydney to California only to find out I've fecked it up with the ticket.

Anyone know (definitively)?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 0-1 Man City

Defensively, not that bad. Infuriating that we have no transition. Both full backs can’t pass forwards or run with the ball. Ayew was horrific today so does not deserve his place against brighton but we all know he will start.
Eze looked ok in the short cameo and ahamada liked committed. Doucoure back as well should be good to switch some players out. Need to attack rather than just sitting and waiting to be beat

What is our playing style?

What do people think our playing style is?

It's pretty easy to see the style of play/tactics for most teams in the league Possession-based (Brighton) High press (City) counter-attacking (Liverpool) etc. I honestly don't think we have a clear game plan and style of play, we look so lost, and it's clear the players lack any clear direction out there. I am sure we used to be a counter-attacking side that most teams would be wary of if exposed. These days we definitely don't pose the same threat. :S:

Supporters Trust Announcement

jeudi 9 mars 2023

An open letter to all Crystal Palace Fans

As you may know the Trust was first set up at the time of the first administration under Mark Goldberg and was given fresh impetus when we went into administration for the second time under Simon Jordan. As a Trust we are very proud of all that we did to help save the Club both times and the work that was put in by all our members.

Since 2010 the Trust has continued as a vehicle to put fans concerns to the club and also to bring important football issues to its membership and the wider fan base. We have also supported various Palace related initiatives, had input into the Ground Safety and Advisory Group and continued to have meetings with the Club down to the present day.

However there is a problem. Over the years the Trust board has shrunk and new members have not put themselves forward to replace retiring members. The situation now is that the Trust has no Chair, Secretary or Treasurer and the last one of those positions has been vacant for several years. This may well be the result of the club’s apparent stability and the increase use of social media to allow fans to put their views forward but whatever the reason it means that the Trust is no longer viable in its present form. There are two remaining board members interested in being part of a fans’ body going forward

We want to give anyone out there who wants to be part of a fans representation organisation the chance to step forward and start afresh but with all the contacts the Trust has together with some funds that are held by the Trust. Additionally, over the years we have gained a wealth of expertise that we would be happy to share with anyone looking to start up an organisation and the Football Supporters Association also is willing to help a new organisation be set up.

If you are interested then please contact us on CPST2023@outlook.com. We would be happy to discuss it with you and also to put people in touch with each other.

Don’t panic! Wait til April

I know it’s a frustrating winless run this year but we have the top 2, and potentially another champions league qualifying teams next up!

Their will be a lot of Chelsea fans putting their toys back in their prams this morning, let’s not have the same sense of entitlement.

The prediction of points from this run of 10 games was generally between 3-6 points and we have 3 so far with 3 to go, so this is expected.

Take a chill pill or a walkabout in the snow. Plenty of pitfalls in pressing the panic button, not everybody has to do it

Suggested Team and Formation For: Manchester City (H) 11/03/2023

samedi 4 mars 2023

Await all the ‘it doesn’t matter’ and ‘play the kids’ comments. But it’s understandable why at this point. 3 super tough games in Man City, and then Brighton and Arsenal away. The near future is looking pretty bleak.

The next game we have to play players who are going to put in a shift in, particularly in midfield seeing as we’ve lost Doucoure.

Suggestions for a new manager if Vieira goes

The time is coming and we might as well...

I'd be tempted by Hasenhuttl. Probably refreshed now after his break after Saints, punched above his weight for ages with a side that spent little until the last summer there, would add some kind of structure to us in possession, had an identity on the pitch (which we don't)

New Vieira Poll (4th March post Villa)

I mentioned this a couple of weeks back but nobody started it so this is as good a time as any.

As I said on the match thread, the more we play together, the more it looks like we are footballing strangers across the pitch. This has got to come from the top IMO.

Jordon Mutch

I see he has joined Crawley Town until the end of the season.

Is anyone scared for the future of AI?

I've been hearing that some experts are scared of AI. However, I think there scared because the movies have scared them. For all, they know AI may be never aware of itself and never kill the human race. What are your guy's opinions on it, because it's an interesting topic?

Worst ever loan signing

The Lokonga thread got me thinking about Palace loan signings. We often focus on the best, but who was the worst?

Loic Remy was awful, as was Sanogo. Camarasa too. And let's not forget Rakip.

RIP Steve Mackey

He really was different class :frown:

Clattenburgs a cheat edition #2678

Danny Simpson has said that Clattenburk told him (during a game) that he should have sent one of their players (Drinkwater) off but he wanted them to win the league.

He really is a prized ****.

"They always get a worldie against us!"

Well it seems it's true!
BBC asked fans to pick their club's best goal -and three teams' goals were against us! Everton, Fulham and Spurs.

1967 to 1981

mercredi 1 mars 2023

Obviously I don't get to go to Selhurst Park anymore, and pretty sure I will not have that opportunity again, but those 14 years I did go regularly got me to where I am today.

As a true nerdy 12 year-old, after my first game I started to log every game I went to in an exercise book including scores and what league or cup it was. I kept this up to the very end when I left the UK in 1981, and even added to it as the odd game was attended when I was back in the UK.

I always felt this should be transferred to an Excel Spreadsheet, and today due having time on my hands enforced by heavy rains outside and being retired, I finished that task.

Thanks to Excel here are the numbers:

Total games attended (All teams and competitions including friendlies and testimonials) = 408

Total Palace game attended (excluding friendlies, testimonials, reserves and youth games) = 309

Palaces Games at Selhurst Park (excluding friendlies, testimonials, reserves and youth games) = 260

Palace games away (excluding friendlies, testimonials, reserves and youth games) = 47

Palace games on neutral grounds (1976 FA Cup Semi and 2016 Final) - 2

Palace results: Won - 115, Drew - 107, Lost - 87 (Pretty surprised at that!)

As I was entering the data, it was interesting how some games really came back to me, and other were totally oblivious to me... like I wasn't there. Also some of the results are pretty depressing reading... some of those 87 losses are pretty galling back in the 70's. Also sad to see some of those teams that beat us are either in the National League (or lower), extinct or reconstructed as an AFC club. There but for the grace of God... etc., etc..

Also recalling some of the games brought back great memories of a time and place and good friends.

I suspect some on here must be in the thousands of games attended, if my measly 14 years yielded these sorts of numbers. I know many of you have been going for 40-50 years!

Peter Taylor and Ian Evans in South Croydon

Palace legends Peter Taylor and Ian Evans will be at Croham Hurst Golf Club, South Croydon, on Friday 10th March, speaking about their careers and life and times with Palace :lux::lux:

Time is getting short, and this really is an evening not to be missed!

Tickets are available at the Past Heroes website (I can't post a link) or email me at mike@pastheroes.com

How easy is it to buy tickets with a Gold membership?

I doubt I'll be renewing my season ticket next year due to other commitments but I still want to get to a few games. How easy is it to buy tickets with a gold membership? How quickly do the tickets typically sell out after their release?

Best Saves

I thought there should be a best / funny saves thread. It'll be fun to see what videos people have.
