Electrician help

Went to replace a light switch today that I thought would be an easy task but whoever did the wiring must have been colour blind. Anyone know which wire should go where. I really don’t want to incur a call out fee and time just for a simple switch. Thanks

Traffic chaos on the A3 last night

Did anyone else get stuck in the hideous traffic problem stretching from Tolworth back to Cobham last night.

We were stuck without traveling for more than 2 miles for over 3 hours and obviously missing the game for the first time of traveling from Guildford for 50+ years.
And just to make matters worse we got back just in time to see Brentford’s horrific equaliser :wallbash::wallbash:

2 people stole money from Simon Jordan

His best friend stole £2 million

He said a second best friend stole £1.5 Million

7:27 very interesting.

5 Subs has changed everything...

Biggest thing to happen since the back pass change 30 years ago.

Its a tactical nightmare for everyone bar Man City. I was thinking last night that at least one of the coaches needs to be full-time on subs alone..... How anyone can keep up is beyond me :confused::confused::confused:

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Pardew returning in advisory role

Not sure how reliable this is, but heard from someone at the game that Alan Pardew is helping out on transfers in an advisory basis now that Iain Moody has gone to Nice. Explains why he was in the box alongside Parish last night. Believe he was doing something similar for a Bulgarian team.

Dunks og countdown to the top

He’s in equal third of all time now of premier league own goals with 6 along with Ryan Shawcross

One more and he joins the company of Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel and Phil Jagielka on 7

Then only four away on 10 by current champion Richard Dunne

Come on big nose, you can get another piece of football history for the weed along with the world famous concourses

2 Midfielders needed now SP

mardi 30 août 2022

Tonight provided clear evidence of how we desperately need two energetic and hopefully quality midfielders . Contrast the energy of Brentford’s subs to ours .

This season with 5 subs it’s about power on the bench and we didn’t have much , even compared to Brentford .

And if that means using Luka ( too slow) or even the largely ineffective Edouard as makeweight so be it .

We had a clear reminder tonight just how thin the squad is . It is no stronger than last year and we got away with it a bit last year , we may not do the same this year.

Ps let Wilf go and it’s probably relegation

New traffic restrictions to be brought in near Selhurst Park soon

Seen this online, apparently it comes into effect on 30th September.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

For my shame, despite having been a car driver for over 30 years, I'm not entirely clear what this means for me when driving and parking near Selhurst on matchdays (or indeed other days)

Is it that unless you are some sort of registered local resident, you cannot drive into the shaded green areas on a matchday? Or any day?

Or is it some sort of CPZ (controlled parking zone)? It doesn't say it is that.

I suspect it is don't drive down the roads covered by the blue CCTV cameras on the drawing (or get a huge fine), but then why are other roads shaded green?

I sometimes park in Bungalow Road, and I can get to that without going past any of the cameras on the drawing, but I don't know if driving down it and parking in it will be allowed?

Yours
Confused of Dorking.

Discussion: Moving players on?

lundi 29 août 2022

Players obviously not good enough we seem to struggle to move on at Palace.... Jaïro Riedewald is a example, do other clubs do something different ?

Lift back down the A3 tonight

Long shot....we fly back to Gatwick this afternoon, we live on the Hampshire/West Sussex border. I can get the train up to the ground, but have only 1 train I can get back, which is pushing it. Is anyone travelling back down the A3 tonight, that could drop me anywhere south of Petersfield? I'll happily contribute to fuel? If so please PM me.

Rumour: Jairo Reidewald Exit?

Tweet from Matt Woosnam tonight

Patrick Vieira says Jairo Riedewald could leave Palace before the transfer window closes.

Said that the midfielder's "head is not in a good place at the moment

"This is a difficult situation for Jairo (but) he is training every day really well"

Wrexham trying to stream games

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Seems so bizarre and backward to me that if a game is not being shown elsewhere then clubs should be allowed to stream (see our cup game).

Personally I think this should be true for the 3pm Saturday games too. Not just from a selfish point of view of someone who lives far away and can’t make games wanting to watch all the palace games.

I genuinely think there is a source of income for lower league clubs that they are being held back from.

Someone streams a game, likes the team, goes to watch, fan for life. I.e. the Spotify model for football.

Can you identify this intro, please

I'm sure the intro is from a 60s somg especially as Big Audio Dynamite "sample" loads even including Mick Jones'/Clash's own song should i stay or should I go

Suggestion: Ross Barkley

Going to throw this one in as I like this fella and think he could do a job for us. Yes he's been wayward over the past few years but I'm Sure Pat could turn him around and get him back to a decent standard. Technical, box to box, can play AM/CM and has good energy. Plus on a free too, we could at least give him a short term deal until the end of the season and see how that pans out.

Will we ever win a major trophy?

Thinking about it as I saw a stat the other day that by the all time top flight league table, we are the second biggest English club never to have won a major honour (Fulham being the biggest).

Given that, you'd think that surely - eventually - we'll win one.

On the other hand, we are in the least competitive era of English football as far as I can see. Can only think of Swansea and Wigan that have won a first major trophy in EPL era?

Obviously we aren't Palace fans because we like shiny things. But it would nice to have a major shiny thing just once.

So, will we ever win one? What do you think we'll win if we do? Will we have to sell our soul for blood money?

Shithousery

I enjoy aggro in matches, and can appreciate/understand 'game management' and everything else, but I seem to be in a minority in not enjoying shithousery in football. Watching the Forest-Spurs game (and any game with a team managed by Conte, to be honest), there was Richarlison, Hojbjerg holding his face etc.

It's the classic thing I suppose of enjoying it if it's on your side, but hating it if it's done to you - but to me, the term itself just seems to be another way of saying a player or team acts like a dickhead, and I just don't quite get why it's celebrated to be honest.

To take that Hojbjerg incident, for an example, it always seems that fans are up in arms at players they deem to be divers, but seem to have no problem with such flagrant cheating if it helps them towards a win.

London Weighting

Can't get my head around something so thought I'd see what opinions are.

Officially work in London, have salary benchmarked against London salaries but company bought in post pandemic WFH policy meaning no one has to go into office unless necessary.

About a month later a couple of us have had our official place of work changed to home. This means salary no longer benchmarked against London despite us living inside M25. People working in other offices outside London have not been changed.

They're trying to lower London head count to justify closing the office. I suspect they're also trying to avoid having to offer redundancy when they do close it.

Likelihood now is frozen pay for the foreseeable until we're near the national benchmark. About 20% lower.

Company argument is if you WFH your salary will be the same anywhere you live in the UK.

Anyone else having work contracts changed like this?

App

Sorry if posted already, and I see there is an announcement that new app coming soon...

But, I uninstalled the app cos it did its thing of crashing after opening, which sometimes happens.

In the past, I've just uninstalled it, gone to app store and downloaded fresh and then I'm good again.

But now, I can't find the app from a trusted / store place.

Is there a link to an old version while we await the new one going up on apple / play stores?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Brentford (H) 30/08/22

samedi 27 août 2022

Short turn around for this game. Hoping Wilf is back and fit, also hoping Mitchell could be back, it looked like a muscle pull so hopefully can be nursed back into it, but unlikely he’ll be risked for Tuesday.

Guaita
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Clyne
Doucoure
Schlupp - Eze
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Johnstone, Whitworth, Rodney, Richards, Milivojevic, Hughes, Ebiowei, Ayew, Mateta

If Mitchell is fit, he starts with Clyne dropping to the bench and Rodney dropping out.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Manchester City (A) 27/08/22 2-4 Loss

Poll to come.

O'Neil Out - Neil IN

I know it isn't quite finalized, but does anyone else think it a bit strange that it looks almost certain that Alex Neil is going to take the vacant Stoke City job?
I thought Michael O'Neil did an okay job and might think himself a bit unlucky to get the bullet so early in the season.
Alex Neil got Sunderland promoted and they have had a great start to the season. I could understand him going to a Prem team or back to Norwich but I don't see what the attraction of Stoke was for him.
Sunderland attract better home support: bring bigger numbers away: I would have thought they would be at least on par with Stoke in the financial department: There doesn't seem to be much difference in the two teams playing staffs. Can't figure it out, unless the Makems were being proper cheap skates.
Sean Dyche for the Sunderland job anyone?

Have the set-ups at Liverpool and City been a little too negative?

I like three at the back, and realise it’s a very fine line when you travel to two of the best teams in the world (perhaps the best two), but have we been guilty of being perhaps a little too defensive in these games, and shown our opponents a little too much respect?

Somewhere good to meet an away fan

I might be meeting up with a Brentford fan before the match on Tuesday. Any suggestions for a good place to meet? Chances are we'll both be cycling to the match and locking our bikes in the wonderful (ha ha) facilities near the fan zone, so somewhere near the ground would be best.

Welcome to Wrexham on Disney+

Not a bad watch. I had no idea that their celebrity owners were filming the documentary in parallel with their takeover. It does come across as a bit of a PR stunt or ego trip (to suit if they'd had immediate success). The end of episode 2 shows how ruthless the situation was.

I initially found Humphrey their 'little helper' a doppelganger for Louis Theroux. They certainly didn't hold back on the fans views at the end of the first season and it wasn't pretty.

Ten years ago - summer 2012 transfer window

A couple of Palace social media posts have reminded me that it's 10 years since three apparent panic signings turned into one of the most important transfer windows.

We started the season with three straight defeats, and as I say, there looked an element of panic in the signings of Andre Moritz, Yannick Bolasie and Damien Delaney. But all three turned out to be major players in our promotion season, with Yannick and Damien then being crucial parts of our first few years up. Who'd have thought that at the time?

Brighton Away - Trains

Looks like Southern have engineering works across the coast...

Southampton / Pompey / Chichester - Bus replacement from Littlehampton.

(Although when I looked a few days ago, it was giving option of train to Haywards Heath and change)

Time players arrive

Just a quick question what time do the players arrive for midweek games? I know it's 7.30pm ko on Tuesday so thinking of taking son earlier, plus need to sort out season ticket out as qr code has vanished and phone doesn't have NFC.

Cheers

Dave

Improvements under Vieira

Interesting analysis from Gracenote (James used to post a lot of their stuff). It’s mainly about Newcastle, but the positioning of us and Brighton and us in 7th & 8th over 2022 is interesting. It shows the sustained improvement last season and should give us optimism for this season.

2G and 3G being shut down in USA/UK

Just seen that mobile operators in the USA are shutting down their 2G and 3G services. This means that from January 2023, you’ll only be able to make 4G calls in the USA if you have a compatible tariff, sim and phone.

Just thought I would stick a post on here in case anyone was planning on travelling to the USA and didn't have a compatible phone!

Closer to home whilst a formal closure for all 2G and 3G services in 2033 has been announced in the UK, Vodafone and EE have announced they will be shutting their 3G networks in 2023. What that means is that from 2024 only 3 and O2 will have 3G networks in the UK.

Shooting in Liverpool

Can't see a thread on this already.

Absolutely shockingly sad. I thought the man and the mother & daughter were related but apparently no connection. Details below.

"Plenty of information to digest there from the Merseyside Police press conference.

Here is a quick recap of what we now know:

-The victim has been named as nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel
-She was shot as a 35-year-old man with no connection to her ran into their home on Kingsheath Avenue just after 22:00 BST
-He was being chased by a man who was dressed in black and armed with a handgun
-Olivia was fatally shot and her mother Cheryl was shot in the wrist as the gunman tried to force his way through their door
-The 35-year-old man was shot several times in the upper body and then driven away in a black Audi by friends, while Olivia and Cheryl were left behind
-Police say the gunman was approximately 5ft 7 tall, of slim build, carrying a handgun and wearing a black padded jacket, a black balaclava and black gloves
-Detectives make a direct plea to the gunman to hand himself in"

Which current Premier League manager is the biggest twat?

There have been a lot of total knobs out there in the Premier League running various clubs but I feel that right now we have 4 of the best so have decided to pit them against each other in a poll.

Forget their titles and successes and failures, this is about their behaviour.

Conte.
This man is outstanding. He arrives at Chelsea and celebrates goals like they are his boyhood club. A grown man who thinks he's still on the pitch and celebrates like a 20 year old who scored his first for the club in a huge derby. He is so animated he out-performs the club mascot. Such a massive fan he jumps to the club they pretty much hate the most, Spurs, then behaves in exactly the same way. Clown.

Tuchel.
The new boy. Ungracious, arrogant, full of excuses and a rude arsehole to other managers in their dugouts. It's no surprise he's already had a fight with Conte, because they scored a goal, and that was way too much for his ego to handle. Red cards all round. Manchild.

Klopp.
He arrived and had the players hold hands in front of the Kop after drawing to WBA, that was the first sign. It took him a while but he soon realised that as manager of Liverpool he could pretty much say and do anything and the British press would lap it up. Gets his way a lot, but still complains, and complains, and complains. Whinger.

Lampard.
Let's face it. Fat Frank is out of his depth. His ability on the pitch after years of being told how to play doesn't seem to have translated into, well, words and strategies to his players, nor an eye for what he needs in his team. He is honest afterwards, he says what he believes, only none of the blame lies at his feet, he's a master of excuses. Knob.

I could include new boy Gerrard and Eddie Howe but they aren't in the same quality as these 4, though Gerrard has potential. Argue the case though.

Trust meeting with the club (18/8/2022)

The notes from a recent Trust meeting with the club are published online, (please note I am not personally involved in any way with the Trust, I am just forwarding the article):

To view the link you have to Register or Login

The Trust had a meeting with the Club on 18 August 2022, the notes of which are as follows:-

Box Office/ Ticketing

The Trust expressed concern at a number of issues relating to the Box Office and ticketing. Supporters wanted a simple, clear, understandable system that works efficiently. The system seems over complicated with many having issues with downloading of tickets, and not understanding what can or can’t be done.

The Club confirmed that in their view the way forward was the use of NFC via ‘phones with limited use of plastic cards and no alternative QR or e-ticket useage. They had attempted to make this NFC use easier by providing a simple link via an e maiI. It was accepted by the Club that this would not eradicate ticket tout use, but it would limit it. There had been a problem with some copying of QR codes or e tickets multiple times. The first used would work but all of the others wouldn’t. This resulted in many people visiting the Box Office to complain their ticket would not allow entry.

It was confirmed that last season 10,000 had digital tickets on ‘phones, this year it is 14000. 2500 plastic cards have been issued.

In answer to various questions the following points were confirmed by the Club

Season ticket holders can transfer tickets to other members and friends and family free of charge.

Season ticket + holders can transfer tickets to other members and friends and family free of charge.

There is a charge of £10 for any transaction carried out over the ‘phone or if the transfer/sale is to a non-member.

There will now be no cut off time for the transfer/sale of tickets.

For the Arsenal game 400 season tickets were transferred to others and 500 sold on.

The Club made it clear that other than the specified groups, (juniors, seniors and those with disabilities) plastic cards would be issued only on a rare and exceptional basis. They hoped some card holders would transfer to digital tickets which could be done at any time.

The Trust welcomed the fact that ticket sales for away games now seemed to be taking place reasonably well in advance ( with the exception of Oxford United! ), but expressed concern that although received, the Man. City tickets had remained in the Box Office for a week without being sent out. This hopefully is now resolved.

In respect of Oxford United tickets there was a concern again about late sale and sending out and whether they would be received in time.

Brighton tickets should be on sale early next week (w/c 22 August).

To balance the work of the Box Office tickets for games would go on sale on-line before being available in the Box Office. The Club agreed that this needed to be made clear to supporters to avoid wasted journeys to the Box Office etc.

The Trust welcomed the removal of the premium line telephone no. to the Box Office. Since this time the Club noted that the number of calls and their length had increased significantly. The Trust highlighted that although the old system had a queuing system in place (i.e. you knew whether you were no.1 in the queue or 101) the new system did not confirm this. This will be re-instated as soon as possible. The Club committed to replacing the ‘Glad all Over’ waiting time music.

The Trust identified that there was considerable concern about the telephone call answering (and efficiency of the ‘call back’ system) and the response to e mails by the Box Office. It was confirmed that at the time of the meeting 3 staff were dedicated to answering the ‘phones and 2 staff to answering e mails. The Club indicated that each telephone call can take 5 – 10 minutes to deal with. Often they received multiple, duplicate e mails which take time to sift through. New systems are proposed to link and combine e mails to save time taken by staff.

Academy Training Ground Developments

It was confirmed that the stand roof was now being worked on. Completion of this would enable supporters to attend matches at the Training Ground.

The new pool building on the site should be complete by April 2023, marking completion of the development (apart from the ‘founders wall’).

Invites to Academy Founder Members to do tours of the Academy would go out soon. There would be an option to go now or wait until all works are completed.

Internal works are now nearing completion on the main training ground so that the changing rooms and restaurant areas reflect and are comparable to the Academy site.

New Stand

The Trust referred to the various documents recently submitted to Croydon Council amending the Planning application for the new stand, and questioning whether a new ‘lobbying’ firm had now been employed. The Club did not wish to confirm details but indicated that they were fully committed to the scheme and matters were moving forward much faster than previously.

1861

The Trust asked about the recent confirmation of the historical development information of the Club and changes to badges etc. Although some evidence for this date existed it did not seem it was universally accepted. The Club were convinced of the validity of the date and the Club historian supported the position. Changes to badges etc. had to go through certain FA procedures and the new badge had done this, so the Club indicated there was FA acceptance of their position.

Womens’ supporters group

The Trust had indicated (a number of months ago) that it had been approached by a group who wished to form a formal group supporting the Women’s team and wished to develop links with the Club. The Trust had immediately passed on details and wondered what had happened to this request. The Club confirmed that contact had been made a day before the meeting and would now be pursued.

Supply of Shirts

Although there was a national issue regarding the supply of replica kits, the Club thought it was well placed to deal with issues compared to some, with the third kit being available by the Montpelier game, the home kit at the Arsenal game and the away kit at the Villa game. By the end of September all the shops should be fully stocked.

Caleb Kporha

I try not to get too excited too soon but for those that haven't seen him yet I would definitely keep an eye open for Caleb Kporha. Young lad breaking into the U18s. I think he has played left wing, left back, in midfield and now right back in his appearances so far and seems to have caught the eye in all of them. It's way too early for 'excitement' but he has certainly had an impact.

Can't remember what they said when he came on in terms of how long he has been with the club or how old he is but he is a first year scholar which puts him between 16 and 17. Not sure if he has been with us through the age groups or joined recently. I don't remember him from the Floodlit matches and tried to look back to find lineups for the finals but couldn't find them.

TBH there are a lot of good looking players in this group already.

Countdown to next humans on the Moon

Quote:

The Artemis program is a human spaceflight program led by NASA to explore the Moon, aiming for its first touchdown on the lunar south pole by 2024. If successful, the Artemis program will perform the first crewed lunar landing mission since Apollo 17 in December 1972, the final crewed expedition of the Apollo program. The program is expected to be a multinational collaborative project between governmental space agencies and private spaceflight companies.
Quote:

NASA's huge Artemis 1 rocket is counting down to a planned Aug. 29 launch to the moon. The space agency will host a series of Artemis 1 webcasts this week and next leading up to the uncrewed launch on NASA's first Space Launch System megarocket from Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The briefings start on Monday, Aug. 22, and run through launch day and include special guests like actors Chris Evans, Jack Black and Keke Palmer.

The last time a rocket this powerful thundered off a KSC pad was back in 1973 when a Saturn V moon rocket carried Skylab into orbit, marking the end of the Apollo era.

This momentous uncrewed dress rehearsal around the moon will clear the trail for a crewed moon-bound flight test with 2024's Artemis 2, and an actual lunar landing by 2025 as part of Artemis 3.

I'm know other countries have plans in place (or are in the middle) for robotic missions but I'm not sure about any other manned missions.

Brendan Rodgers gone?

dimanche 21 août 2022

Strong rumours in Leicester tonight that Brendan Rodgers has won the sack race this season.

Club is not in good shape with rumoured money issues and players wanting to leave. Squad needs a major overhaul. Have been awful so far even though it's early still.

Thoughts? Roy would do a good job for them as an interim appointment.

Man City are playing a friendly in Barcelona this week

Very odd, it might be for charity but given they played today ans our game is Saturday too, surely it gives us an advantage?

"Guardiola said City will take a first-team squad for the game"

Of course when they say first team, perhaps that will be a stretch?

Match bans

This has probably been discussed before but I have never seen it.

The Darwin Nunez sending off against us got me thinking.

So, he will get a 3 match ban. This will be served against 3 of our opponent teams, potentially helping them achieve points and their relative league position against us.

I think any bans should include the return fixture against the team the player was sent off against.

I realise that this doesn’t work if it is the second fixture but maybe it could be rolled over to any future match against the club where the player was sent off. This could be a future season or with a different club if the player is transferred.

Thought?

David Boateng - Queen’s Park Loan

Alan Nixon:

Crystal Palace right back David Boateng is ready to go to Owen Coyle’s Queen’s Park on loan - and team up with namesake Malachi.

Palace midfielder Malachi made his debut for the Scottish club last week and may now have company in defender David. The pair are NOT related.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Oxford (a) 23/08/22 Carabao Cup

So Vieira likes to play a strong team in the cups but I think we’re in a position to play very good players while still resting key ones!

A lot of the players that have been on our bench are all mostly top flight professionals and some even internationals, so should be enough to see off League 1 opposition.

Riedewald and Plange not in the squad vs Aston Villa, may indicate that they’re off on loan (or injured!) hence why I have not included them. I find it strange that Vieira would include Whitworth over either of those 2 players.

Johnstone
Clyne - Ward - Richards - Mitchell
Milivojevic - Hughes
Ebiowei - Olise - Edouard
Mateta

Whitworth, Andersen, Guehi, Doucoure, Phillips, Schlupp, Eze, Zaha, Ayew

With Butland, Tomkins, McArthur and Ferguson all injured, along with Jairo and Plange not playing, it does make the squad quite small! D. Boateng has been training with the first team while not playing for the U21s so there’s every chance he could make the squad too.

Wilf's statue.

So when Wilf stays, and signs a new contract, which I hope and pray he will, I think that Palace fans should raise the funds for his statue. It'll show how much he means to us and that we are truly grateful for everything. Any excess to be donated to his football schools.

It would be great for the board to do it, but even better if us fans do. He will know. He will appreciate it. Such is the love we have for our south London
hero.

Thames Water, estimated bills, no meter after repair

mardi 16 août 2022

Help needed if possible please...

We have had an estimated bills for 5600m3, which I queried, I can't get an accurate meter reading as I have just discovered when we apparentlyhad a leak which was repaired in the street by thames, they don't seem to have reconnected the meter.

I've rung thames three times, it's difficult getting them to understand and we still haven't had meter put back.

Any advice?

Problems 'forwarding' a season ticket

Hi, has anyone had any problems 'forwarding' a season ticket for a game you can't attend to a family/friend?

I can't make the villa game due to hols and just tried this on phone and laptop but once I select 'forward' no further options for progressing the process appear.

First points of the season - Predictions

Given our tough set of fixtures to begins the season, with a couple of additions still to come in, hopefully. Where are we thinking our first few points are likely to come from? I was eyeing Brentford for at least a point but them demolishing Man United has got me a tad worried. I can’t unfortunately see us getting anything up at Anfield later. So I’m going to say maybe a point against Brentford and then another point against Newcastle going into the United game, where anything could happen.

What’s everyone’s points prediction after the W@nkers game and where are the points coming from?

4 points after the United game is my prediction.

Is this possible please? Thanks

Football Fanatic Builds $1 Billion Bet Against Game’s Mega Rich

Just seen this on my screen at work and thought I would share!

Football Fanatic Builds $1 Billion Bet Against Game’s Mega Rich

US investor John Textor now owns clubs from London to Rio
Textor sees multiclub model as antidote to big money ownershipBy*David Hellier
(Bloomberg) --*John Textor*has taken just 12 months to go from fanatical football fan, watching hundreds of games a year, to one of the sport’s biggest investors.
He’s acquired stakes in teams from London to Rio de Janeiro, building a football empire like a business to cast himself against the game’s mega rich elite. It’s a second act for Textor, who forged his*reputation*and wealth over decades as an investor in disruptive digital technologies.
The switch to football has been rapid even by the current standard of Americans*piling*into the sport. And he isn’t done yet, having recently*entered*talks to buy French Ligue 1 team*Olympique Lyonnaisin what will be his biggest bet on the game to date. If it completes, Textor’s football stable will have a value of about $1 billion including debt.
“My football plan is to create an ecosystem of cooperative top-tier clubs that will benefit from the sharing of a global footprint of talent identification,” Florida-based Textor said in an interview.*
Read more: The Florida Financiers Buying Up Europe’s Soccer Teams
The 56-year-old’s journey as a football owner began a year ago*this week, when he bought into English Premier League team*Crystal Palace FC. Investments in Brazilian club Botafogo and Belgium’s RWD Molenbeek quickly followed via his*Eagle Football Holdings LLC*vehicle.*
This multiclub model is favored by other US-based investors looking to bring down the costs of football ownership. They believe that by sharing players across teams, the need for spending millions of dollars on pricey transfers, wages and agents’ fees is largely eradicated.
John Textor prior to the match between Botafogo and Fluminense during Brasileirao 2022 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 26.
Textor sees the approach as an antidote to clubs like Paris Saint-Germain FC,*Manchester City FC*and Chelsea FC, whose recent successes have been bankrolled by energy-rich states and billionaires.
“Ted Lasso could win with Manchester City’s roster,” Textor said, referring to the fictional coach played by Jason Sudeikis in the popular Apple TV+*show. “I am merely hoping to demonstrate that alternative approaches to competitiveness must be explored and encouraged.”
Big Clubs
Critics*of the multiclub model say it creates farm teams with the sole purpose of serving a trophy asset within a group. But Textor has been bold with his choice of clubs and it’s unlikely supporters of Crystal Palace and Lyon, in particular, will want to play second fiddle to each other.*
Quite the opposite: the fanbases will likely demand investment in squads and infrastructure to help win trophies and qualify for more prestigious and lucrative competitions.
Crystal Palace finished last season 45 points behind Champions Manchester City. The team, which hasn’t won a major trophy, began its current EPL campaign last week with a 0-2 defeat to Arsenal FC. Lyon, more accustomed to success in its domestic league, has been outmuscled in recent years by Qatar-backed PSG, while Botafogo is seeking a return to glory after a period of financial turmoil.*
“If we build controlled, integrated pathways between countries and clubs, we can be recognized by aspiring players in our markets as a great place to develop, allowing us to sign players before the major clubs can buy them,” Textor said. “Developing players is better than trading players, for competitive success and for our business.”
Passion, Profit
A former competitive skateboarder, Textor’s passion for sports is easy to see, especially on social media. The frequent Twitter user has already*called*for a Brazilian referee to resign after he awarded a penalty against Botafogo -- an unusual move for a club owner -- and*poked fun*at Lyon’s Ligue 1 rivals*Olympique de Marseille, joking that the nine-time champions are a “small club.”
While his early football bets were funded primarily with his and his wife’s money, Textor now has other investors to keep happy. The Lyon deal has the backing of*Cannae Holdings Inc., an investment vehicle controlled by*Bill Foley, owner of the Vegas Golden Knights NHL team.*Jamie Salter, the head of Reebok owner*Authentic Brands Group LLC, has backed Eagle Football, Textor said.
Unlike traditional European football owners, US investors have shown themselves to be more focused on generating a return on capital in the sport and Textor is looking to leverage his experience in digital tech to find new ways of generating revenue from fans of his clubs.*
“Football is in the dark ages when it comes to fan engagement,” he said. “The audience is more valuable than the team.”
Face Time
One of Textor’s most high-profile deals was the 2020*merger*of streaming platform fuboTV Inc., where he was once executive chairman, with Facebank Group, a company he founded. Facebank specializes in facial recognition technology, which Textor said can be used to bring fans closer to the clubs they support and, crucially, make it easier for them to spend on merchandise.*
He’s rolling out a face recognition system at Botafogo that supporters can use for ticketing, stadium entry and matchday purchases. The plan is to offer the same at Crystal Palace, where Facebank already has a sponsorship*deal, and Lyon in the future.
“With the Facebank fan engagement system you can join with your face, pay for your hot dog with your face,” Textor said.*
To be sure, Textor’s business record is not without its blemishes. Ten years ago, Digital Domain Media Group Inc., a visual effects group he led that created graphics for movies including “Titanic,” filed for bankruptcy. “I didn’t lose money on that deal,” he said. “But I lost everything else that mattered to me at that time.”
Looking further ahead, Textor hasn’t ruled out investing in more football clubs or eventually pursuing an initial public offering of his investment vehicle.*
“As a next step, large sources of equity will be introduced into Eagle Football,” he said. “I’ll take partners with a common vision.”

Barcelona in deep trouble

Barcelona have not been able to register Franck Kessie, Andreas Christensen, Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde.

Additionally, as Ousmane Dembele & Sergi Roberto contracts expired and were subsequently renewed they're also unregistered.

The club have been told they need to reduce their overwhelming wage bill immediately. They're in serious trouble.

Lamont Dozier

The sad passing of Lamont Dozier has been announced this morning.

Lamont part of the iconic Motown songwriter trio of Holland, Dozier, Holland have given us so many great songs through the 60's on the Motown label for so many Motown legends.

Motown was so much more than just a record label it was then a huge part of the sound track of the 60's & is a large part of my record collection.

Motown mostly ignored by the BBC TV & radio it was mainly the Pirate stations who opened up our ears to all those wonderful tunes & artists. Tony Blackburn always big promoter of Motown & Soul Music helped to bring those sounds to us and of course the much missed Dusty Springfield who persuaded Ready, Steady, Go to broadcast a Motown Special show on ITV.

RIP Lamont and than you for the wonderful songs

Suggestion: Callum Hudson-Odoi

samedi 6 août 2022

Didn’t know whether to give this a “rumour” prefix because we have been linked, albeit hardly rock-solid sources. But, surely we are interested if we can persuade him? He went to Whitgift School, is from Wandsworth, he has Ghanaian roots like Schlupp and Ayew, and has seen RLC, Gallagher and Guehi make the England squad after playing for Palace.

Zaha is almost certainly in his final season with us. Players of CHO’s quality rarely come up so we should get the replacement in now - both can be accommodated in the XI. Is left wing a priority position? Probably not. But it almost certainly will be next summer so hopefully we can plan ahead. CHO has serious quality - skill, pace and can put a good ball in. (Think Werner would be the perfect striker for Vieira’s system as well, the new AJ. But wages obviously a huge issue there, hopefully less so with CHO.)

RIP Archie.

Why stop him going to a Hospice..?
Why stop the family taking him overseas if the offers were there...?
Why did the Hospital feel the need to take legal control of his care at the very first court hearing..?

I get the feeling more will come out on this boys treatment by the Royal London..!

Joachim Andersen

vendredi 5 août 2022

Deserves his own thread. His performance against Arsenal will be looked at in the future as legendary despite the result. Best player on the pitch by miles and usually underrated because of Guehi next to him

Suggested Team and Formation For: Liverpool (A) 15/08/22

Due to the joys of TV scheduling we now have to wait 10 days before our next fixture, away at Liverpool.

The last time we played them, Killian Phillips put in a masterclass in midfield, not sure he’ll play this time round, though. :D

Assuming Olise is back. Would prefer McArthur in that midfield.

Johnstone
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Doucoure - Hughes
Olise - Eze - Zaha
Mateta

Guiata, Ward, Richards, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Schlupp, Ayew, Ebiowei, Edouard

Email from club to all Lower Holmesdale Season Ticket holders

Email just sent out to all LH ST holders:

Dear (SuttonExile)

We hope you are looking forward to what promises to be an exciting 2022/23 season.

We are writing to make you aware of a very serious matter, one that we hope you will support us on.

For context, Selhurst Park is licenced by the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) and Croydon Council as an all-seater stadium. Unfortunately, the club has now come to the attention of both organisations due to persistent standing in the Lower Holmesdale. Both the SGSA and the Council have informed the club that if persistent standing in this stand continues, it is within their rights to impose sanctions of a capacity reduction. This could mean around 500 supporters would have to be moved out of the stand, and as a result you could be directly affected.

Persistent standing can have a negative impact on the safety of supporters due to the increased risk of crush injuries, aisles and gangways being blocked, which also affects emergency exit routes. The enjoyment and matchday experience of other supporters can also be adversely affected by having their view blocked or the space around them being crowded.

Standing during the following is not classed as persistent standing as long as supporters return to their seat as quickly as possible – and we fully expect supporters to stand during these times:

At times of excitement during play (eg. a goal chance)
During a controversial incident
During VAR decisions
When goals are scored
Half-time
Full-time

To support the club and to avoid us all being impacted by the proposed sanctions, we ask that you do not persistently stand this season for the safety and enjoyment of fellow supporters around you and to help ensure we can keep the stadium at full capacity.

Thanks for your understanding and support on this matter.

CPFC

A couple of issues with this email for me:

1) install rail seating/safe standing
2) over half of the lower stand for the whole game good luck implementing it

Watching Palace v Arsenal in Copenhagen

I'm going to be in Copenhagen tomorrow. Are there any places showing the match that Palace fans in Denmark could recommend? Or, indeed does anyone want to meet up for a few beers?

The Economy of the UK

Can someone please enlighten me?

We have just had the Governor of the Bank of England trying to justify his announcement of another 0.5% increase interest rates.

He was asked why.

His reply blamed the energy crisis that is set to cost every household £3500 by the end of the year, and so has fed inflation.

This level of cost is taking vast sums of cash out of every household in Britain, so it seems the governor thinks that the old remedy of raising interest rates is going to solve the problem.

This is going to take even more money out of the household budgets if you are a home owner with a mortgage, so how is this going to help?

We also have a lightweight candidate for PM, like Truss, who is likely to be the chosen one, to cut taxes, in opposition to the Bank of England, to give generous tax cuts, to put money back into households again.

This for me, seems totally irrationally counter productive, and displays a dis-jointed policy that will all end in tears.

Can somebody on here give me, and anyone else who cares, some hope that this will not turn out to be the disaster it is likely to be.

How to get your ST onto your phone.

Just resending this in case people are still struggling to download digital season tickets!

I have a workaround for the forbidden error on smart phone. Please follow the steps below:

1) Use a PC or MAC (not your phone) and find cpfc.co.uk
2) Under Login/Signup (top right) login using your Palace email address & password
3) Under Tickets & Memberships (scroll down, on right) click on Manage My Account
4) On the left select Season Tickets
5) Scroll up and select your season ticket
6) Top right select Add to mobile wallet
7) Open your camera app on your phone, hold it against either Apple QR code of Google QR code
8) Yellow link will appear on your phone, tap it
9) This will take you to the wallet, follow the instructions

BINGO. season ticket will then be in your wallet!!!!

PS> I have only tried on Apple iphone !!

Good Luck All.

Former Latvian football national team player Andrejs Rubins , known to "Delfi" portal, passed away unexpectedly.

Rubin left this sun alone at the age of 43.

Rubin participated in the 2004 European Championship together with the Latvian national team. During his career, the footballer playing in the position of midfielder represented the clubs of Latvia, Russia, Sweden, England and Azerbaijan. Rubin became the Latvian champion and winner of the Latvian Cup several times.

In the Latvian national team, Rubīns played 117 games, in which he scored nine goals. According to the number of games played in the national team, he is behind only former team captain Vitaly Astafiev. The former midfielder also holds a record - he has played in 59 matches in a row for the Latvian national football team. He made his debut for the national team on November 10, 1998 in a test match against Tunisia, but his last game was in October 2011 at the end of the European Championship qualification cycle against Croatia.

Rubin started his career in "Auda", playing in the first league of Latvia, but in 1997 he joined the Swedish club "Osters". The following year, the football player returned to Latvia and strengthened " Skonto ", where a successful three-year period was held, but then Rubin's journey abroad began. He first joined the famous English club "Crystal Palace" of London, followed by moving to Russia and playing for the famous " Spartak " of Moscow, "Shinnik" of Yaroslavl.

At the end of 2007, Rubins returned to Latvia, spending half a year in "Liepājas Metalurgs", and then played in Azerbaijan for the next five years, representing Baku " Inter ", "Qarabaq" and "Simurq".

In March of this year, Rubin's autobiography "I sat only once" was released. In recent years, the former football player had turned to coaching.

But not in a good way. I raised this a few times in relation to our pre season abroad. I've not seen any commitment from the club to offset our footprint for this trip, let alone a standalone strategy in relation to net zero carbon.

We are sadly lacking in this area it seems.

Net zero (or even carbon negative) operations are possible. See my local club, Forest Green Rovers, as evidence of that.

PL clubs like ourselves have a responsibility to lead on this issue. We should and could be doing much, much more.

Hey BBS, leave us boomers alone

We used to play Trivial Pursuit at Christmas and at some point we had the baby boomer edition. I'd never heard the expression before and it wasn't really of any interest to me. I didn't feel the need to identify myself with a generation so never gave it any more thought.

I have now learned from the BBS that I'm part of an evil group of people and all the problems of the modern world are my fault. If you want to criticise people for being racist, greedy, stupid and reactionary then please do.I hate all those things too. You wouldn't generalise about race, religion or gender so why would you do it about an entire generation?
