Palace Comrades gone.

samedi 30 avril 2022

Palace Comrades has disappeared. I liked having a nose now and again to remind me how much better the BBS is.
Posters on Hol think the site was hacked by the BBS ? I thought Elgin had a problem with another poster, ExPat or something similar.

Always sad to see a site close, even if it was shit.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Watford 07/05 (H)

Will probably post this same line up all the way to the end of the season… I do want to see Adaramola and Rak-Sakyi get some minutes as well though.

Guaita
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
McArthur
Gallagher - Eze
Olise - Mateta - Zaha

Butland, Ward, Adaramola, Kouyate, Hughes, Schlupp, Rak-Sakyi, Ayew, Edouard

Player Ratings And Reviews: Southampton (a) 30/4/22 2-1 Win!

Poll to come.

Song Eze?

Does Eze have song? If not we need to get him one.

Coincidences in football

I always find these things fascinating, anyone else? Plenty of Palace stats but they are football wide when you look. Examples

-Dean Smith Aston Villa manager sacked after defeat to Southampton, a week later appointed Norwich manager first game v Southampton

-Dean Smith relegated with Norwich after defeat at Aston Villa

-Arsene Wenger’s 500th match was defeat away at Mourinho’s Chelsea

-Wenger’s 1000th match was also defeat away at Mourinho’s Chelsea

Must be astronomical odds on these things occurring, there are loads over history

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Signed Shirt and comment - Suggestions

Having had too many ales at a charity event last night, I find myself with the opportunity to get a signed shirt from literally any Premier League player, and a comment / statement of my choosing from that player on the shirt. Apparently the comment should be “within reason”.

And I am looking for suggestions. Best suggestion wins and I’ll ask the guy who is facilitating this to get it done.

So far I have

Cristiano Ronaldo or Harry Kane - I should have signed for Citeh

BBS Goal of the Season 2021/2022

BBS Player of the Season

Voting for player of the season is now open on the club website:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

I'm not really sure there's a need to list all the players like the official site has done so I've shortlisted 8 who you could realistically argue should be under consideration.

I think it's impossible to look past Marc Guehi, who has been unbelievably consistent and even performed well when perhaps the team hasn't.

Mitchell has also been excellent but not quite as consistent to the level Marc has. I also think Marc has also helped Mitchell be better which is why he edges it for me.

Other mentions go to Gallagher who had a good first half of the season but has faded, McArthur who has been outstanding but been injured too much, Andersen has been very good but overshadowed by Guehi, Olise who has been sublime at times, Kouyate who's had some excellent games in front of the back 4 and Zaha who is our top scorer this season.

Will be interesting to see if the BBS is reflective of the wider fanbase.

By all means do your ratings and reviews for the squad for the season so far too. I’ll compose mine later.

Just Stop Oil protests at Cobham and Clacket Lane services M25

‘Protestors’ (using the word very loosely) have targeted Clacket Lane. Storming in and smashing up petrol pumps with hammers in front of terrified customers and staff. Many now glued to the floor causing general havoc

These people are a form of domestic terrorist in my opinion, everyone has a right to protest peacefully but surely this has crossed well over the line?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Southampton (a) 30/4/22

Southampton are always a tough team for us. Would go with the same team we made after the Ayew/Olise sub, except for Mitchell to come in if he is fit.

Quote:

SAN FRANCISCO, April 25, 2022 /PRNewswire/ -- Twitter, Inc. (NYSE: TWTR) today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to be acquired by an entity wholly owned by Elon Musk, for $54.20 per share in cash in a transaction valued at approximately $44 billion. Upon completion of the transaction, Twitter will become a privately held company.

Mr. Musk has secured $25.5 billion of fully committed debt and margin loan financing and is providing an approximately $21.0 billion equity commitment. There are no financing conditions to the closing of the transaction.
So, I guess we can expect Trump to make a triumphant Twitter return.

Made In South London - Palace For Life Launch

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Crystal Palace's charity arm Palace for Life Foundation has launched its latest fundraising campaign, Made in South London, to raise £1 million over the next three years to help transform the lives of over 3,000 additional young people.

The campaign's launch film was written and fronted by the multi-talented creative and life-long Palace fan Ben Bailey Smith (AKA Doc Brown).

The film sees Bailey Smith walk the streets of south London, bumping into some familiar Palace first-team faces in unfamiliar roles, including Wilfried Zaha (the driver), Marc Guéhi (the lollipop man), Eberechi Eze (the barber) and manager Patrick Vieira, en route to Selhurst Park.

Free Shirt

Hi all.

I've got a 11-12 yr old (Size 152) brand new yellow away shirt for anyone who wants it.

It would be nice if it went to someone who's kid otherwise wouldn't get one but appreciate that's hard to determine! 😁

Let me know if your kid wants it and I can post it out this week.

"Moment of the Season"

Just got an email from the club (assume it's gone out to all S/T holders) inviting me to vote for Moment Of The Season.

Some of the events up for nomination are our away win at Man City, our involvement off the pitch with Hartlepool in the Cup etc, etc.

Only when you click on the link, it becomes apparent that you can only vote if you've signed up with $ocios and bought fan tokens...

What next - you can only vote for Player of the Season if you're mug enough to joi n this virtual scam?

F*ck off Palace - and take this grubby money making scam on loyal fans with you!

Inflation and the cost of living crisis

A thread to report, moan, despair and advise over the cost of living and price rises.

Like many my heating and electricity costs have just risen by 250%.

And the bread I prefer to buy is now £4 a loaf.

Help! Legal advice

Need to pick a few brains for some advice.
In Nov last year I fell down a pothole in a car park managed by Croydon Council.
I was left with knee issues (ongoing physio needed), a damaged shoulder, several cuts and bruises, concussion (I head-butted my car!!!), and a damaged foot (potential surgery).
When I emailed the council to report the accident they immediately gave me the brush off. 6 monthly inspection reports have highlighted no issues, and the council have fulfilled their duty of care in completing the inspections. The pothole I reported will be filled by end of Dec. Case closed

However, since then I have revisited the car park and noted 30 potentially serious pot holes/areas in need of repair. I have photographed and mapped each issue. Also, to date, the pot hole I tripped in has not been repaired.
I have the inspection reports for Feb21, Aug21, Dec21(after my accident) and Feb22. None of the issues I have detailed have been recorded. From reading the reports I would doubt that anyone has actually visited the car park.

And so to my point. Would I be best contacting the council again, or should I take legal advice? Given the Council closed the matter as soon as I contacted them.

I’m the far from an ‘Ambulance Chaser’, but this has left me thousands out of pocket, what with missed work and medical assistance.

Support the Palace Women (Final Home game of the season)

jeudi 21 avril 2022

Their last home game of the season on Sunday at 14:00. It has been a great season for them and the football they are playing has improved so much. They often come to the men’s teams games and were there at Wembley too, they really appriciate the support from us. Last Sunday despite the result our support was excellent, I think the Women’s team deserve to experience a bit more of it as well

Crystal Ball: Leeds (H)

Palace 1-2 Leeds
Guehi
Harrison, Raphina
24,567

Suggested Team and Formation For: Leeds (h) 25/04/22

mercredi 20 avril 2022

This is potentially one of the toughest ones this season.

Guaita
Clyne - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Hughes
Gallagher - McArthur
Edouard - Mateta - Zaha

Butland, Ward, Tomkins, Kouyate, Eze, Schlupp, Olise, Ayew, Benteke

This may be unpopular, but I shall explain.

I think the players in midfield will give us the best chance of getting on the ball and the best chance of matching a very dynamic Leeds side, even despite Bielsa’s sacking. Kouyate is an important player but this may not be the game he starts in my opinion.

Olise came off due to an injury according to Vieira, keep him rested unless we really need him.

I want Vieira to give Tayo a go in the PL at some point, maybe against Watford.

Is our squad really that good ?

I read on here that we should be doing so much better with the squad we have .Also on FYP podcast i regularly hear it mentioned that outside top 6 there are not many better squads than ours . Is this really the case ?
I agree that 4 of our additions have been excellent , Guehi and Andersen in particular . The energy and goals from Gallagher has been so important ( however i do feel he is being a little over hyped by the media - although i would love to sign him permanently ) . Olise has huge potential and has quality . However he is still very inexperienced and against some teams can be bullied out of the game .
We lost a lot of experience in the Summer ( had to be done ) . However those players could grind out wins . I also think that playing behind close doors last season helped us . Generally the games were surreal and lacked intensity - which helped our ageing squad .
Looking at our squad , i am not convinced many other Premier League teams would come in for them if they were available . Out of the 22 outfield players , would there be a stampede for the following

Ward , Clyne, Kelly , Tomkins , Ferguson , Milivojevic , Hughes , McArthur , Riedawald , Schlupp , Benteke , Mateta , Edouard , Ayew .

I feel that lack of genuine pace and also real quality in midfield / attack is still an issue . Also young players will lack the know how that only experience will give them .
At the start of the season , i was wary and staying up was the aim .
However we look better on the eye and generally look more composed . There is though , a big Summer coming up for us and i just hope we have finances to bring quality in .

First time season ticket holder

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct area of the bbs to post but wanted to know what the general deal with season tickets is. I have been a Gold member for years and go to about 12 home matches a year and a few away (I live in Oxford so not always easy/expensive to go to every home match etc.)

I was thinking of getting myself and my old man a season ticket next season but wondered what the deal is in terms of not being able to to attend home matches - can you sell that specific match day ticket back to the club? Also is it easy enough to let a mate (probably one of my siblings) use my season ticket if I can't attend? I have never been checked when entering the ground with a ticket in all the years I have been going to Selhurst so presume they don't particularly check that the season ticket being used belongs to the person going through the gate?

Cheers all :)

Crystal Ball: Last Six Kiwicumulator

As part of the Crystal Ball competition, we have two Kiwicumulators, one for the first six matches and another for the last six matches. It's time for the last six matches after tonight's match.

Credit to Hughff from New Zealand who created the "Kiwicumulator" many years ago.

Predictions must be in before KO on the first of these last six games, i.e. just before kick-off on this coming Monday evening.

Just Win/Draw/Loss for this: no need to predict the score, scorers or attendance. There will be individual threads for each match for that.

Crystal Ball points are awarded for:
no predictions right - bonus point
3 predictions right - 1 point
4 right - 3 points
5 right - 5 points
6 right - 7 points

The matches that are the subject of this Kiwicumulator will be the last six league games thus:

Leeds (H)
Southampton (A)
Watford (H)
Villa (A)
Everton (A)
Moan U (H)

Get predicting.

Property lease

I have posted about this before but when I signed a lease on a shared ownership property twelve years ago they adjusted the lease on the property from 125 years to 99 years from the draft lease to the original lease.
Having contacted the leaseholders they have agreed to amend the lease but I have to pay for my solicitors fees of around £800.
Being currently out of work i have been chasing this up and my original solicitor who did not notice the change has agreed to deal with this for £800.Having contacted another solicitor they have said that really the leaseholder and their solicitor who drew up the agreement and my original solicitors should be fronting the cost as they drew up the lease and my solicitor did not notice it.

This new solicitor would try and get the solicitors to pick up the bill but if they did manage that will the acting solicitor pick up the recovered money or would they pay it back to me?
Not sure if I should go back to my original solicitor to act for me and try and get him to amend his £800 fee as he did not pick up the mistake in the first place even though it was 12 years ago.

Reasons to hate Wembley

lundi 18 avril 2022

Thought the Palace support and display was fantastic but can’t stand the place, even when we have won.

Transport to and from the stadium - has it ever had any of the promised investment?

The whole corporate environment around and inside the stadium sums up everything wrong with modern football.

The big teams don’t give a monkeys.

Price of refreshments and waiting an age for cans to be poured into plastic cups - can’t they just use taps?

Confiscating balloons and anything else that doesn’t fit their world view.

The acoustics are awful - compare it to somewhere like the Millennium which cost a fraction of the price.

The thousands of empty Club Wembley seats.

I suppose it’s a fitting debt mountain for the FA incompetents.

Block 548 - Thanks

In case they come on here wanted to say a big thank you to those who helped out yesterday when I was clattered from behind in the second half. To the lady who went to get the paramedics and those around worried. Got a couple of ice packs after the game and is nowhere near as bad as I expected it to be this morning.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Newcastle (A) 20/04/22

Player Ratings And Reviews: Chelsea (cup)

Let’s have the discussion in one thread then…

Palace fans behaviour and pockets of trouble

From what I saw yesterday Palace fans did our club proud. Tidying up Covent Garden Japanese style showed class and generally we were in good spirits.

From what I saw, there was a bit of aggro after CHE scored both goals with a couple of Palace fans fighting each other and another Palace fan climbing up into the Club Wembley seats hitting Chelsea fans (after initially hitting a palace fan).

Some minor skirmishes on Wembley way afterwards too.

As for Chelsea, I saw them singing at Baker Street with flairs etc then not a peep at the ground. Overall they were pretty well behaved bar some antics on Wembley Way.

Up the Palace!!!

Kaleidoscope Vision

mercredi 13 avril 2022

Has anyone else on here ever had it?

Only in one eye, and only for five minutes, but it was vivid and a bit freaky tbh. Foolishly, I went straight to google and, predictably enough, one of the first results implied that I may be about to have a stroke. This also freaked me out as my cousin who's the same age recently had a life-changing one himself. For now I'm going to plop with google's more restrained explanation which suggested it was probably the onset of a migraine. I don't think I've ever had one of those but kind of hoping I do.

Kings Lynn taxi (to Ely)

Bit of a long shot here.

I'm travelling down from Norfolk (Kings Lynn) for the semi. It's a 2 bus rail replacement service between Kings Lynn and Ely, so just wondering if anyone is interested in sharing a taxi from Kings Lynn to Ely on Sunday morning (been quoted £55 - so not too bad if a cost is split 2-4 ways). If there's more i'm happy to see about a minibus.

Reply here or PM.

Palace club-funded marketing banners at Wembley

mardi 12 avril 2022

Looks like the Palace marketing team are trying to muscle in on our support-funded display at Wembley - a tradition our support has since back in the 1990s. Surely they will think twice on this?! It'll look wank having this shiny club marketing banner bolted on to the supports display. Leave that corporate shite to Chelsea.

Singing Section Ticket Collection

Hi all

If anyone has bought tickets via the CPFC box office and is waiting to collect them, I have been having a moan at the guy in charge about not being able to pick them up to date. I am also a bit annoyed that when I bought mine they stated collection at Wembley which was not true.

This is what I received back

Hi, I’m sorry about this, we didn’t receive most of the tickets until today and our main priority was to get all the tickets posted, there was no way we could start looking for individual tickets whilst trying to get 2000 pieces of Mail out before 3pm. We should have everything ready for collection by Thursday.

New York Subway Shooting

There has been a shooting on the New York Subway in Brooklyn.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

•At least 13 people have been injured, including at least five from gunfire.

•The incident took place at a busy subway station at 36th Street and 4th Avenue during rush hour.

•Firefighters at the scene were initially responding to reports of smoke on a train. Once there, they found gunshot wound victims.

•Police say there are no active explosive devices at the scene.

•No arrests have been made. Initial reports suggest the suspect was wearing an orange construction or Metropolitan Transportation Authority vest and possibly had a gas mask.

•Local authorities have urged the public to stay away from the scene, which has been swamped with police and emergency crews.

Socket that can tell you if you are using sustainable energy - real or a clever scam?

To view the link you have to Register or Login

When I first saw this, I was sceptical. How can a socket distinguish between energy supplied through a grid system, know for example, whether or not it came from a gas fired power station or say, a wind farm?

It seems, that the fact that there is a power socket involved here, the claim has nothing to do with the socket at all in its normal function of connection to an appliance, but is simply a socket with an additional built in chip board with a wireless connection to the internet.

The chip can tell by having access to the national grid network information, pinpoint the source of electricity generation at any given time, and send a green or red light signal to display on the socket. The green light means at that moment you are using green energy, and the red, vice versa.

The video is obviously being used for marketing purposes and seems to be geared to offices and industry, rather than the individual household.

I really can't see the advantage of this product. For the following reasons.

Firstly, are individuals working in offices where the energy is being paid for by their employer, going to bother to turn stuff off when the red light shows, and even care that much when they are up to their ears with their normal day to day problems?

Secondly, why have more than one of these sockets, when possibly a simple app on a smart phone, or a desktop could do the same job and provide the necessary info and warnings. All the socket is doing is telling you what the local supply scenario is from a central grid computerised system, and any single device can do that.

Oh dear we do seem to have upset them up north. I've noticed recently a lot of fans of other clubs seem to think we're uppity bastards. We must be doing something right then with our recruitment, squad development, playing style and general ethos.

Sir Steve perhaps a Sir Patrick on the way

Whilst it’s only his first season, PV has taken our relegation favourites to a whole new level. To mention anyone in the same breath as sir Steve is dangerous but there are similarities. First and foremost when sir Steve joined I wrongly assumed he was serving his apprenticeship to manage Man Utd. I had the same feeling regards PV and Arse but did you notice the joy he showed, when we scored and at full time must of stung the gooners fans. I honestly believe he is very happy at palace and has a great relationship with Mr Parish and Mr Freedman.

The build up to Wembley (team talk, formations etc))

With one game before the semi final, it's hard to know how Pat will line up this weekend ahead of the game a week Sunday.

Obviously I really hope we win on Sunday but if we were to play the fringe players, who could blame Pat. That said, Pat's not really the type not to got for the kill every game as has been shown in the early rounds of the cup. Hopefully Conor will go all out this Sunday given he'll be absent whatever. I'd be tempted to play Benteke/Ods this weekend too and save JPM and give him a rest.

That said, we're really getting a head of steam the more the team play together so maybe we should keep that going.

I think we'll ultimately get beaten at Wembley as Chelsea have such a strong squad, but the longer we don't concede the more confident I'll be. I can't really see the Madrid game having too much of an impact on them given it's 5/6 days before ours.

At this time, I'm can't decide who I would play instead of Conor, the main options would be Macca or Eze. It certainly would be very apt if Eze was to play and score at Wembley after all his issues the last 12 months.

Airport Transfer in Ireland

Hi all

Looking to see if anyone has any experience with any taxi companies in Ireland?

Looking to get from Cavan back to Dublin airport on Sunday 17th April (back for our Semi Final game!). Hire cars for some reason are beyond a joke (>£500 for two days).

Any local or recent knowledge much appreciated!

Jairo Riedewald

Spurred by a comment in another thread about how hard it can be to adjust, and that he deserves credit for keeping his head down.

The lad has been here five years now and has 65 appearances (2 goals) in a stop start Palace career. Arrived as a CB, morphed into a DM and has performed well at LB.

What are people's views on his future? Does he have one with Palace? He's still only 25 years old. For my part I wonder whether he may go full circle and, in this new ball playing side, offer an option as back up CB to Guehi and Andersen?

£40 million+ players in our squad

mardi 5 avril 2022

It's just hit me how good a position we are in with the current squad. Obviously we want everyone to stay for a long time but if the worst happens and we have to sell some of our best players, I think we are in a great position to get some huge transfer fees back so we can then reinvest and go again.

Guehi
Andersen
Mitchell
Eze
Olise
Zaha

Surely all the 6 above would command fee's of £40 million or above per player if they were to leave.

The future really is bright :lux:

Teams making us kick the 'wrong' way at home.

lundi 4 avril 2022

In the last two home games against Everton ( FA Cup) and Arsenal (Premier League), they have made us kick towards the Holmesdale in the first half.

I personally think this showed both of these sides were scared of us. It made me feel more confident of a win, and I assume the players were the same!

Final Results:

Palace 4-0 Everton

Palace 3-0 Arsenal

Lampard and Arteta's plan didn't exactly work!

I prefer seeing us attack the Holmesdale in the second half. Hopefully our future opponents won't embarrass themselves with pathetic gamesmanship to try and win in future. It doesn't work!

Is the current XI our best bargain team since promotion?

Gallagher - Loan / Hughes - £5million

Fish & Chips

Love a bit of Cod & Chips but don’t have it that often because there aren’t any decent shops near me , anyhow I was at the coast recently and popped in a fish and chip shop and asked for Cod & Chips twice and was charged £19:20p , I was shocked at the price but the portions were big and the Cod was delicious , this was at the Coastal Fish Bar in Greatstone in Kent, I went back about 2 weeks later and asked for 2 small portions of Cod and chips ( still pretty decent size ) which was £16 , The cheapest I can remember buying a bag of chips is 6p when I was about 7 years old ,
Beach 48 chip shop in Dymchurch is also very good ,
Anyone else’s favourite fish & chip shop or stories on prices ?

I'll be staying down in Brixton in July for a quick visit to the o2 Academy - does anyone have and recommendations on hotels and pubs in the area?
