Suggested Team and Formation For: Manchester United (a) 5/12

mardi 30 novembre 2021

Let’s get straight to it.

Ward banned, so I think Clyne straight in. I have an awful feeling Vieira might go for Kelly so that he can carry on playing with the right back tucked in as a three, but let’s hope not! I think the team picks itself apart from one central midfield decision. I would go for Hughes, but I could understand why someone would go for a creative player like Eze or Olise.

Guaita
Clyne - Tomkins - Guehi - Mitchell
Kouyate
Gallagher - Hughes
Ayew - Benteke - Zaha

Butland, Ferguson, Kelly, Riedewald, Milivojevic, Schlupp, Eze, Olise, Edouard

Obviously we’re unaware of Andersen is going to be fit or not so this team is based on the idea that he won’t be.

We’re looking short in defence with 2 players out, would Ferguson be considered fit enough for a place on the bench? He has been said to be in full training. If not, what other players from the u23? O’Brien, Rich-Baghuelou or Adaramola?

Creativity

Not really seeing it, are we? By and large in open play we've been very good defensively but going forward there's a lot of room for improvement. Tonight for example, we only looked dangerous in transition which we should have punished Leeds for and when they were in a more settled shape, nothing came off for us (mostly Wilf) like not much has all season really. If you watch the games and look at the stats nonces diagrams and whatnot, most of the high quality chances have come from catching teams higher up the pitch or pressing them into mistakes, there has been little cohesion between the front 3 to open up a block. Villa at the weekend, we didn't look like breaking them down at all. Even when we get into good positions to create something we're so wasteful (Wilf and Ayew cough)

if I was Rangnick at the weekend I'd have the wankers sitting back and letting us have the ball as we'll only manage nothing chances right now.

Kevin Friend

I've put this in world of football because this is not a knee jerk response to a Palace game, but a serious concern about a bloke I have for a very long time have watched bemused by the serious inability he has as a Premier League referee.

Time and time again I watch him put in inept performances, especially in his control of the game and particularly his management of time.

Tonight was just another exceptional example of how this person who "acts as timekeeper" is not capable of doing the job, let alone at this level.

I went back to check as something didn't seem right with the time added on. Having indicated "a minimum of 5 additional minutes" I started a stopwatch from the 90th minute until the time he blew the whistle. I decided to be ultra friendly to Kevin and generously delay the stopping of my watch for the VAR check, the goal (including sub) and a short period when the Leeds fans decided to play keepball...

Of that generous 5 minutes added time, we played a whopping 2 minutes and 55 seconds!

I won't even bother with cataloguing the numerous incidents across our game, let alone the countless decisions he has been utterly atrocious with during his PL career.

There is a very good reason why when I saw who was reffing tonight my heart sank. When a ref is that bad you know trouble is ahead regardless of the opponent or occasion then there is a problem!

Anyone else not bothered?
Why wear clothes in bed?
Apart from Maidstoned, of course, who has a history with skidmarks. But then, you'd have thought his truss would provide adequate protection.
The only times I've worn these offensive creations have been in hospital, so as not to offend my fellow patients and the staff.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Fixture Information: Barnsley U18 - FA Youth Cup Round 3,

We've been drawn away at Barnsley in the 3rd Round of the FA Youth Cup.

The game is scheduled for Wednesday 8th December, 7pm ko.

I assume the game will be played at Oakwell?

Anyone know what the ticket arrangements might be?

Our attack, xG, and chance creation

Vieira has done a brilliant job, the style of football has been good and we have performed well. We have lots of attacking talent in Zaha, Eze, Olise, Gallagher, Edouard, Ayew and Benteke and yet we aren't creating much. The xG stats back that up. Why is this?

Our main chances seem to be from winning the ball high up the field from a strong press - Gallagher in particular has been superb at this. We are struggling to create despite fairly high possession stats. The domination is not translating into chances created. Taking aside the diabolical decision to pair Luka Milivojevic with Kouyate, which surely won't continue, what are the reasons for this? Even when McArthur was playing in midfield we weren't creating so it's not a recent issue. We have an array of attacking talent. Why aren't we creating big chances from regular build-up play? Is Vieira a negative manager?

Arthur Waite Concourse

I don't usually go get a drink at half time, but given the performance decided on Saturday it was worth it!

Got my pint and then the concourse filled up to the point it was actually starting to become a crush around block W entrance.

Is it always like that - or was Saturday particularly bad. A guy passing said in jest 'hope there isn't a super spreader about' and actually looking back in it he had a valid point.

John Sewell - A mark of respect

dimanche 28 novembre 2021

I was very disappointed that no black arm bands were worn on Saturday. I can't think of any reason why they couldn't have been. This was a man who played a significant part in our club's history. I hope they will be worn in his memory against Leeds this week to make up for the omission

I was also disappointed, given his standing, that there was no minute's silencer for him. We've observed a minute's silence for players with no connection to Palace, so I am surprised that no-one saw fit to arrange one for the first player who lead us in the top division. I would like to think it was simply because nobody had time to organise this for Saturday, and it will be done at the next home game

I've opened a separate thread on this issue (to the one marking his death) in the hope that, if nothing is already in hand, someone from the club will see it and take the appropriate action

Whinging fans

I used to sit in block E and don’t remember anyone moaning much and definitely more chanting.

Now in upper tier and less chanting, which is a shame, but more than that a bloke a couple of rows in front is just moaning and angry all the time.

At the villa game he was moaning about the players, the drum (said he wanted to smash it up lol), the chants. I mean WTF how can you moan about people singing and chanting at a ******* football match.

I really don’t get it. If you find the matches that frustrating and you moan that much why go? It’s also not good for the morale of the team and annoys other fans.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Leeds (away)

samedi 27 novembre 2021

——————————Guaita—————————————
Ward———Tomkins————Guehi———-Mitchell
—————————-Kouyate———————————
—————Gallagher————Eze/Olise——————
Ayew———————Edouard——————-Zaha

Subs:

Butland
Kelly

I know most people won’t go with Ayew but he’s essential against such a hard working side, and if we want to press ourselves. Maximum mobility in the front 3. Gallagher slightly deeper and Olise or Eze to help us pass the ball and win the midfield.

Happy birthday Garronrav

Have a great day mate.

Ticket Refunds

Bought two tickets for Palace v Southampton earlier this week and now I can make it..

What is the clubs policy on refunds in advance

3 at the back.

Why dont we go three at the Back?We have three very good centre backs. (Although a little harsh on mitchel)

Guiata
Ward/tomkins - Anderson - guehi/mitchell(i think there might be a centre half in there
CHEIK
Gallagher. Macca/hughesy
Eze

Zaha. Tekers/edwoard. Ayew/olise

The changes PV have been very very good. With the game changing there is more emphasis on fullbacks getting forward and whilst i think wardy and mitchell are great they are definitely better going backwards. With connor and macca covering the full back positions with the right and left centre back.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 1-2 Aston Villa

Dreadful performance with the midfield selection from Vieira being incomprehensible. Luka and Kouyate were absolutely garbage, but Luka in particular put in the kind of performance that means he shouldn’t feature in the first team again for a long time.

So much pointless sideways passing with no cutting edge all game. It was very tough to watch and Villa probably deserved it as we didn’t trouble their keeper.

Vieira needs to do something about the midfield as it’s all wrong with Luka and Kouyate in there together.

One More Point - Issue 61 - On Sale at £2 v Villa (H), Leeds (a) and mail order

Never thought I'd be doing one of these threads again!

But, the 34-year fanzine tradition at Selhurst will continue this Saturday v Aston Villa

A cracking 52-page issue One More Point will hit the streets pre-match, half time and post match against Aston Villa this week.

It'll also be on sale at Leeds on Tuesday night as well.

(Possibly Man United (a) and Everton (H) depending on how sales go.)

If you can get to the games it's £3 (inc P&P). Just PM me for details on here or via @onemorepoint1 on Twitter.

Whether you're a 'legacy' reader from the 90s, a FYP reader or just someone who loves reading Palace articles, this will keep you entertained and informed plus has a few ideas for Christmas presents for the Palace people in your life.

"£2 paahhhhhnd yer fanzine" :p

Alexander Isak - now at Real Sociedad

jeudi 25 novembre 2021

Ex-Palace striker Alexander Isak is considerded the 'New Zlatan' by Real Sociedad - he even has Alexander Sorloth (on loan from RB Leipzig) for company.

I don't remember him as a Palace player.

Brentford Kit

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Personally I think this is commendable from Brentford. I would be in favour of all clubs doing the same with home, away and 3rd kits. Would like to see Palace do the same. I've not purchased one for a few years but would be more likely to buy one I really liked if it was going to be the current kit for more than 1 season.

Does capitalism actually work?

This is possibly politics actually, but it's economics.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

So this is yet another company that has been propped up with public cash, taxpayer money. Normally they are banks, this time just another big company. Capitalism should be about profit off your own earnings but can any of these companies even operate without cash handouts? We slash corporate tax rates and pay ever decreasing wages, cheapen everything possible and still the government hands out tax breaks and grants and sweeteners. Do most companies even make their own money anymore? This isn't really capitalism as I understand it.

Adlerhorst needs to explain.

Crystal Ball: Steven Gerrard's Aston Villa (H)

mardi 23 novembre 2021

From the makers of 'Frank Lampard's Derby County' and 'Wayne Rooney's Derby County' FCs come the media darling's S.G's.A.V.F.C. Not sure why but I am happy we aren't known as 'Patrick Vieira Crystal Palace' just yet.

It seems that every opponent this season has just started to hit form and/or has new manager sydrome prior to us playing them, I hope that from January this season or even next season this is levelled out and we play a lot of sides in hopeless form.

Palace 5-3 Villa
Olise 2, Edouard, Andersen, Luka.
McGinn, Watkins, Ings (obviously).
Att: 24,321

Referee: Michael Sailsbury. Assistants: Ian Hussin, Wade Smith. Fourth official: Martin Atkinson. VAR: Paul Tierney. Assistant VAR: Sian Massey-Ellis.

At least the Asst. VAR is good.

Ashes 2021

lundi 22 novembre 2021

It is that time again and we need a dedicated thread to discuss this

Pre pandemic I was planning to visit Oz with Barmy Army to watch the Melbourne test but maybe next time.

We did thump them in the World Cup t20

But come test matches I think Australia will be a different beast altogether

Here’s is to a month of cricket festival and it is on BT this time round and I am dreading who will be doing the commentary.

Maybe like football they need to do a fan’s commentary

Why are we conceding so many?

Now I know xG is a stat some people do not like but for those that do......

Our current xGA, the number of goals we should have expected to concede from the opportunities we have given up, is the 3rd best in the league, only behind Man City and Chelsea! However we are the worst performing team in the division on this measure though, having conceded almost 5 more goals than would have been expected.

So why? it is not that we are playing badly in terms of restricting the opposition, we are. We are not giving up many opportunities, certainly good ones, so why are we conceding? Is it just bad luck that they are going in?

If we look at Burnley it is a great example. The 3 goals they scored came from chances rates as 0.08, 0.06 and 0.06. Across all their 15 shots they amazed and xG of just 1.04 yet scored 3.

The first 2 right in at the post, the 3rd a worldie that 9 times out of 10 goes nowhere near the goal.

Bad luck, or poor play?

The Origin of Crystal Palace FC Volume 6

The new volume of Palace's history, The Origin of Crystal Palace FC, Volume 6, is now available in the club shop and on Ebay.

401 pages, an inch thick, and full colour, it covers the period 1915 to 1918 and illuminates the club's exploits during the First World War.

Are your family asking you what you want for Christmas? As always, this volume is stuffed-full of fascinating historical Palace artefacts and rigorously-researched history, entirely from primary sources, including:
  • How much compensation money did Palace receive for their eviction from Crystal Palace Park?
  • Who won the power-struggle for control of the new wartime London Combination league?
  • How keen was the rivalry between the fans of Crystal Palace and Croydon Common?
  • Why did a man plan to jump out of a balloon into the Nest?
  • How did Palace cope with the catastrophic collapse in income caused by the First World War?
  • Why were Palace reported in the newspapers to be top of the League when they weren’t?
  • Why did the Kent League request that Palace return their trophy?
  • Why did Palace repeatedly refuse to merge with Croydon Common?
  • Which Palace player had a sweet-shop on Thornton Heath High Street?
  • Why were Palace refused entry into the Nest?

Suggestion: Cornet

Again, fresh in the mind. Can play multiple positions, works hard, scores goals, could even be left back cover for Mitchell. Should he be someone to target in the summer if Burnley go down?

Suggestion: Tarkowski

Fresh in the mind after his performance against us. Commanding, and available on a free transfer in the summer. Could help our weakness at defending set-pieces?

Do we need to talk about Luka Milivojevic?

What an impact the guy had when he arrived in January 2017, he has done well for the club. It is also clear he has had recent off-field personal problems, for which he has our sympathies. He remains a decent bottom 5 Premier League defensive midfielder.

However, our "skipper" is responsible for almost everything that was wrong against Burnley, and will continue to be an issue moving forwards. Firstly, his mobility is going, as we started to find out last season. He struggles to cover the ground. That means the other centre mids cannot push forwards to press high up the pitch without leaving us exposed. That is why Kouyate is better for us in Vieira's new system because he has the pace to play the holding mid position on his own, and cover in behind. Secondly, he isn't very good in the air, so is of little help when we are defending set-pieces, something we need help with. Thirdly he is increasingly sloppy and also often slows the ball down when we have the ball, which is a shame as he should be up to the speed of the Premier League by now, and actually he is capable of breaking the lines with accurate 15 yard forward passes - probably his greatest strength along with solid positioning. Lastly it annoys me that he continues to take the set-pieces when he is on the pitch. That's not leadership, that's a sign of weakness in his personality.

I'm afraid I think it's time to thank him for his services and move him on. We've moved on, and it's time he moves on too, but would be interested to hear other people's thoughts. I would imagine his wages are fairly hefty, given his age and the length of time it took to sign him onto a new contract.

343

dimanche 21 novembre 2021

Was it me or were we basically playing 343 yesterday?

Ward was defo more of a right sided centre back than a full back and Mitchell and Ayew were seemingly playing equally high up as wingbacks.

We've done similar during periods of games recently but was first time we've started like that I think.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Aston Villa 27/11 (h)

Gerrard is a bit of an unknown quantity in the PL, not sure how he’s going to play.

My team would be:

Guaita
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Kouyate
Gallagher - Eze
Olise - Benteke - Zaha

Butland, Clyne, Tomkins, Kelly, Milivojevic, Hughes, Schlupp, Ayew, Edouard

If Eze is deemed not fit enough to start, then I would go for Schlupp. But I was surprised Eze didn’t see the last 5 minutes considering he has already racked up 150 minutes for the u23 squad.

Reports of in-fighting between rival sets of Palace fans

I didn't go to yesterday's game but there are several reports of fighting breaking out, before, during and on the train home between 2 sets of Palace fans, leading to arrests.

I know it's mentioned on the matchday thread but I don't want it buried there as I believe it needs bringing out in the open, discussed as to causes, resolved and buried so there is no repetition.

Palace has always been a family club, when an away game was a particular enjoyable experience, where we could take kids, be as one etc etc. I don't want that image tarnished/individuals reluctant to make the journey and follow our team.

FA Referee system fundamentally racist?

samedi 20 novembre 2021

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Quote:

A report presented to the FA highlights allegations of racism among observers who mark referees for promotion. One observer is alleged to have told one referee: “You lot can all run fast, but that’s all you are good for.”

The lower levels of the refereeing system have been dubbed by some referees from ethnic minorities the “black man’s graveyard” because of allegations they are blocked by a small number of white assessors from reaching the highest levels.

There are no black or Asian referees officiating in the Premier League or Championship. There are just four referees from ethnic minorities officiating in the country’s top seven divisions.

The FA’s 14-member referee committee, which has the task of improving diversity in the 24,500-strong referee workforce has no black or Asian representatives.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Burnley 3-3 Crystal Palace

We won't be last on MOTD tonight.

So who do we want to go down?

What 3 teams do we want down this year?
Please pick 3 choices from the poll..

Sergio Aguero

Apparently he's likely to retire because of heart problems. Sad if true.

Zaha's Evolution

Zaha is still one of our most important and influential players but I believe his game is going to have to evolve as he ages. For the vast majority of his career he has been the lone player we have relied on to provide all our offensive spark. However as his skillset changes so must his game.

Successful Dribbles Per Game:
2015/2016 - 3.7
2016/2017 - 4.1
2017/2018 - 4.1
2018/2019 - 3.4
2019/2020 - 4.3
2020/2021 - 1.8
2021/2022 - 2.3

Unsuccessful Dribbles Per Game:
2015/2016 - 2.5
2016/2017 - 3.7
2017/2018 - 3.8
2018/2019 - 4.2
2019/2020 - 3.9
2020/2021 - 2.6
2021/2022 - 3.6

In other words, he is getting dispossessed as much as he always has but his successful dribbles per game has been cut in half over the last two seasons. For the first time in his career when he tries to dribble he is more likely to lose the ball than beat his man.

Zaha is now surrounded by quality players and he should look to use them far more often than trying to beat his man (or two or three). He still draws so much attention this creates space for the rest of the team. He still has an incredible ability to manipulate the ball and create space for himself and if he starts getting his head up and making the quick pass then he will be a far more effective player for us for a long time to come.

Happy Saint Edmunds day to all.

True Saint of England!

Having not been there before, I'm hoping to get to this one this year.

Given it's boxing day, it's probably unpredictable to know how quickly sales will go given how many will have family commitments or be away. How do we think sales will go and which phase it will go to?

I guess it will be the usual sales process re points - 7000, 4000, STs etc etc?

I assume tickets will go on sale circa 3 weeks before so prob circa 6th Dec ish.

Spray Foam Insulation

jeudi 18 novembre 2021

Exceptionally boring thread but have just had a bloke round selling me spray foam insulation. Me and my partner bought an old house recently and it's leakier for heat than an Alan Pardew defence.

It obviously costs thousands to do but I'm wondering if anyone's had it done and it's made a marked difference? Obviously the salesman has flashy videos that make it look it would transform our lives, but I'm not convinced...

An extra section of Block U in the AW has just been opened up for this one so there are plenty of good seats available in there at the moment. I think this is the first time this season that they've opened up that bit of Block U so I guess demand is gradually increasing.

Email Problem

I have an email problem to which i hope someone has an answer!

My ISP is Plusnet and I have used their email service for many years.

I have never had a problem with them until the last few weeks when emails I write are not sent immediately. They sit in my Outbox whilst the system attempts to release them unsuccessfully telling me that it has been unable to connect the the outgoing SMTP e-mail server.

Usually they go nowhere until i sign in to my computer the next morning when they get sent immediately. I do not normally shut down the computer overnight - just let it sleep and it will just release the messages when it wakes up.

There is no problem with receiving emails and, presumably, my outgoing settings are ok as the messages do get sent eventually (ie the next morning).

Any ideas?

Brighton's "no dickheads" policy

I think this deserves a thread of its own. The Weed are very proud of this myth ( so much so, that a lot of stuff is airbrushed from NSC).

Before I start, let's not go over old ground, like Dunky's hotel exploits. He was cleared of all charges in court. And surely no dickhead would be caught in a hotel room with three other blokes whilst a young later is getting serviced.

Poverty seems a lead in this process with junk food being the main culprit. Who's "fault" is this.Normalisation of being overweight? Parents not giving a shit or simply thick? Corporate marketing? Lack of sports opportunities? Playstations?

It's got to be fixed as not only is it criminal for the kids, but it's a health bomb waiting to explode on the NHS

Discussion: Gallagher replacement…?

lundi 15 novembre 2021

As it’s pretty much nailed on that he’s going back to Chelsea next summer, would Dougie and the scouts be on the lookout now for a replacement in a similar vein to Conor? Definitely think that’s a priority, maybe even in this coming window.

Chimney Stack Removal Scaffolding

What would someone expect to pay for scaffolding over to a chimney stack on a standard semi? Easy access, no window sticking out etc. Just straight up from a solid flat patio and bridge over to the stack. Stack is just set back from the ridge. Want to be able to get up there safely to remove it or repoint it.

Will phone around for some quotes but curious of a ballpark figure.

Was quoted 2.5k to remove stack or 1.3k to repoint, which, unless I'm out of touch, seems steep. Happy to do it myself if I can do it safely and it's a fair chunk cheaper.

Cheers.

Tony Collins

I read this article with interest.

'Black History Month: Tony Collins - the first black manager in the English Football League'

Half way down it states he was Crystal Palaces first black player back in 1957.

Anyone know much about his as a player for CPFC?

I think us improving has really rattled other midtable clubs fans

After we smashed away Wolves at the weekend I really didn't think anymore about it. However the Wolves fans hoo boy. Been having rolling social media spats about what a nothing club we are. Teeny shitty lower Championship club etc.

Apparently beating the mighty Wolves has angered the titans of English football. It says something about the perception of themselves that Wolves fans have in comparision to Palace . When all I can see is yet another average Birmingham team amongst several others.

I've noticed this week that the press have suddenly realised that all of the pre-season predictions were total bollocks and what had become obvious to us during preseason is that we'd be fine. Actually if PV keeps it up we can make a 'comfortable' run for Europe. Are we under the radar or are the Wolves fans the next in a line of clubs fans that have lost their shit when we've given them a going over?

Queue the other teams figuring out our tactics and we stall now I've said that!

Supporters club drinks?

When I left the UK in 1980, the place to catch up with my mates just before the game was the Supporters club just behind the main stand. I'm pretty sure that's all gone now. Would have a few at the Cherry Tree down by NJ then up to the Ship to catch up with the "lads" then off to the Supporters club to discuss the week and the tactics for this weeks game.

Now that sort of thing is long gone I'm wondering what is the favourite banter type pub that the locals go to.

I'm anticipating a visit to the ground sometime late in 2022 for the first time since my last 1980's visit from Aus.

Crystal Palace Top Scorer 21/22

Interesting race for the Palace golden boot this season. I think we have potentially four players who could get double figures in Benteke, Edouard, Zaha and Gallagher. Who is your money on to top score for us?

Discussion: Replace in January or wait until summer?

We have another contract clear out phase coming up this summer. The following are all out of contract, or returning to home clubs;

Clyne
Tomkins
Kelly
Kouyate
Ayew
Gallagher
Mateta (can’t see anyway he will become permanent)

The question after deciding on giving out new deals, is do we act ahead of the game and get some young blood in during the next window, or have another busy summer.

Clyne obviously depends on how Ferguson returns, Gallagher we would love to buy but will probably be out of our range.

Personally, I would retain Tomkins, and bring in another young CB to replace Kelly now. Kouyate is potentially worth another year or two, plus will be at AFCON which could complicate things. Same for Ayew who I would probably look to let go with JR-S in the squad next year.

Thoughts?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Burnley (a) 20/11

Still got the international break to go but we’ll get everyone’s thoughts with the Wolves game still fresh in the mind. Could we see the return of Eze?

Guiata
Ward - Andersen - Guehi - Mitchell
Kouyate
Gallagher - McArthur
Olise - Edouard - Zaha

Butland, Clyne, Tomkins, Kelly, Milivojevic, Eze, Schlupp, Ayew, Benteke

Kouyate putting in 2 monster performances should earn him a starting spot on my opinion. I suggested that Luka should go in the last game to offer something different to the Man City game but Kouyate proving that his dl defensive displays are worth it.

Mad to think eze joins this bunch of awesome next game potentially. Such a great squad now. Brilliant time to be a palace fan.

Edit: still Jimmy motm but add kouyate to the contenders actually. Still think luka is a better option for his ability to find a pass as we take possession but Kouyate was very good

'VAR's Red and Blue Army'

Nice to get the run of decisions today when so many in the past haven't gone our way!

(plus I had idea for the thread title after singing to myself in my head today and thought it had to be shared)

:)

Farke Off

Sacked apparently

What's happened to the Boxoffice?

I know it's never been the best-run parts of the Crystal Palace organisation, but of late it seems to have gone into freefall.

Recently I have:

Had my season tkts frozen on the night of a game and had to chase for replacements on the Saturday morning

Twice I not receive away tkts in time and had to collect at the away ground on the day of the game

I have requested callbacks, only for them to hang up the second I pick up, on three occasions.

Have I just been unlucky or is anyone else living this hell?

dull thread but can someone recommend a good one? I don't mind paying within reason. I had Soda PDF which was ok but limited the amount of signatures I could make (twats) and then tried to charge me a massive uplift for renewing.

On this day - 4th November 1972

mercredi 3 novembre 2021

49 years ago today.

Very special memories for me.

"Don Rogers makes his debut for Crystal Palace after signing from Swindon Town and scores in the 1-0 defeat of Everton".

Sir Don ... the reason for my ridiculous 49 year rollercoaster ride ..

Discussion: The upcoming and inevitable Spurs clear out

Conte has arrived. Paratici was already there. Both looking to sell anyone and anything to finance their cut rate galactico purchases.

Is there anyone at Spurs on reasonable salary, that isn’t a lazy f**k, that’s worth a punt?

New Suit - opinions needed

My one and only suit must be 15 years old if it’s a day and has padded shoulders and pleated fronts to the trousers. I look more like a limo driver in it than the man about town I am (joke!).

So, my question to the oracle that is this BBS, what does a 66-year-old man buy when it comes to a suit in 2021? One that he can wear to four weddings and a funeral (or at my age, four funerals and a wedding!). Not going to need it for business or work, so needs to be a bit more formal, I guess. Might even have to wear it to my own funeral!

I was thinking a charcoal grey, but everyone seems to be wearing navy/dark blue these days, but these seem more business/work orientated… is that true?

Also, I don’t want to look like Steve Parish and his drainpipe/shrank in the laundry look. Again, I think I’m looking for a more relaxed fit, without looking like an extra from a 1980’s Duran Duran video. I'm more Peter Crouch than Danny Young (Palace kit man) in the body shape, if that helps.

I guess a visit to the department store is in order.

Pubs for: Burnley

What’s the away pub for this one? First time up there for me. Cheers

Ethiopia

Is anyone following what is happening here?

I am finding it difficult to get timely and accurate information.

Basically though the Addis Addaba government have cut Tigray from power, who in turn rebelled, the government then literaĺy blockaded the region with famine rife and half a million at risk of dieing of starvation.

Yet now the Tigray military have broken out and are seemingly marching on the capital.

Any accurate news sources welcome.

Owen Paterson - an innocent man?

He has been found guilty of giving contracts to companies that have paid him. In the commercial world, he’d be out on his ear and probably prosecuted. However, he is pleading his innocence. Andrea Leadsom is trying to change the procedure. Either which way, the whole thing stinks, as politicians behave as if they are beyond scrutiny and above the law.

What the F*ck?!

mardi 2 novembre 2021

Just watching the news and I saw they've illuminated the arch outside of 10 Downing Street.

What the f*ck?!

They are attending a climate change conference ffs and someone decided it would be a good idea to illuminate something that didn't need it and can only be seen on TV at night!

Furthermore, someone decided that it was a good idea to resurface a local road but ended it about 10 yards from a pothole.

What the f*ck?!

Palace have the easiest games for the next 10 weeks

At least they have from a fantasy football perspective, according to Fantasy Football Scout - and if they're easiest from a fantasy football perspective, in all probability the same applies in real life

PALACE TOP OF THE TICKER

Bottom of the Season Ticker for the first 10 Gameweeks of the campaign, Crystal Palace rise to first place from Gameweeks 11-20.
It’s not a completely straightforward run but there are meetings with eight of the 11 worst teams for goals conceded in 2021/22, not to mention the six sides who have scored the fewest goals.

The Eagles certainly put in a convincing audition on Saturday, beating Manchester City to nil at the Etihad thanks to goals from Wilfried Zaha (£6.9m) and Conor Gallagher (£5.6m).

It’s these two players who are the stand-out picks from an attacking perspective, and indeed they are the Palace assets with the most transfers in ahead of Gameweek 11. Gallagher, in fact, is the second-most bought midfielder across all 20 teams.

Odsonne Edouard (£6.5m) has played out on the left flank in the last three Gameweeks, diminishing his goal threat (just three shots in as many fixtures), while Christian Benteke (£6.3m) and Jordan Ayew (£5.9m) appear to be ‘horses for courses’ selections: the former when against ‘low blocks’ and the latter perhaps for his work rate against the bigger sides.
Gallagher is both Palace’s leading shot-taker and chance creator in 2021/22, and is now the fifth-highest-scoring FPL midfielder, having bagged his sixth and seventh attacking return of the campaign in the win at the Etihad.
As we pointed out last week, the close-range shots have dried up somewhat: his expected goals (xG) count was a whopping 2.48 in Gameweeks 2-4, compared to 0.48 in the last six Gameweeks.

But bar spot-kicks, Zaha hasn’t been that much more of a sustained threat to warrant the additional outlay, with his goal at City his first big chance from open play all season – his other two coming from the penalty spot.
Given the calibre of teams that Zaha and Gallagher have already faced and the less-daunting tests ahead of them, you’d expect both of their high-quality shot counts to rise over the coming 10 Gameweeks.

“In the one vs one Wilfried is a really dangerous player and he can stretch the opposition team by running behind. And that was the decision that we made and it worked today. And now I think it’s good to to show to the players that we have an interesting team and it’s important for them to understand that anybody can bring some things to the to the team.”
– Patrick Vieira on his decision to play Wilfried Zaha as a central striker against Manchester City

Palace Echo Fanzine

The next tranche from my loft is the Palace Echo fanzine. First published in 1994, as the successor to Eagle Eye. It ran for 78 editions until Summer 2007. Mostly in A4, but the last four were glossy A5. I have 65 editions - missing the following issues 2, 9, 14, 15, 17, 20, 22, 35, 39, 40, 47, 49 and 59. I have the Eagle Eye "reboot" issue (no.66). Most are in pretty good condition.
Anyone interested in any or all of these? All you have to do is recompense me for the cost of posting them to you.

Second hand car market

lundi 1 novembre 2021

Saw a news item on how prices had gone through the roof.

Then put my car in webuyanycar and it was worth significantly more than I paid a year ago. And they pay shit prices.

WTF is going on? Wondering if it’s worth selling and using zip car until things go back to normal. Then buying a car again.

Well done Bolton
