Loan: Rhian Brewster

Thought this would already be on here. Picked this up from BBC Gossip column where they cite the Sun running the story: Palace believe he can compete with Jordan Ayew, Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham as an out-and-out striker. It also says Liverpool might be prepared to loan him to get more game time. Personally it would be a no from me, yes we are ultra light in this area but I'd rather stick with the little we have, or sign someone whom we can develope for our own advantage.

Palace x Juve kit

Juventus finally debuted its long-awaited collaboration with Palace and adidas last night after months of speculation, combining to create one of the most street-ready drops football has ever seen.

Palace x Palace kit is what we all (I) want. They're a London label and were known to frequent and skate Croydon Fairfield amongst other South London areas, Southbank / Peckham etc... Surely we SHOULD be all over this and get them to work with us on a historic and stylish collaboration..?!

Get on the phone to them Mr.P!!

Palace's dullest group of players

Aside from their technical ability.

Are this lot the most boring, devoid of characters and 'meh' group of players we've ever had?

Are we so desperate for a bit of charisma and personality, that PVA is heralded as some sort of god for using his witty 'doing bits' hashtags on Twitter?

I can't think of one player in our team who i find entertaining as a character.

No one celebrates with any flair or makes a connection with the crowd when they score - mind you, many of them will never score an actual goal.

Wilf used to have character when he played but now he just sulks and picks arguments.

Guita seems to be a bit of a interesting character but that's it.

Ayew is miserable. Benteke is miserable. Wayne is simple and does Nazi salutes. Ward is nice and christian.

Never felt so apathetic towards a group of Palace players, I see them for their merits in being part of the system, but have no bond with any of them.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Best free/cheap things to do in London

I'm coming up to a wedding reception on Saturday, Lord's Eagle's lad, my cousin, is tying the knot right in City. I'm making a weekend of it with the gf and whilst I have a few thoughts on how to spend our time I'm open to suggestions from #cpfcfamily

Arriving in time for Friday evening, have all day Saturday to fill but need a decent place to watch the rugby WC final @9am.

We're staying in Hackney, and we're middle aged.......(needed to add that I think)

Richard Shaw has left the club

From The Athletic

Richard Shaw has left his role as head coach of Crystal Palace’s under-23 side, The Athletic understands.

The former Palace defender, 51, returned to the club in 2013 to take a coaching role in the academy, and a year later became the under-16 head coach — a role in which he first coached Aaron Wan-Bissaka — before stepping up to take charge of the under-23 side.

Probiotics

lundi 28 octobre 2019

Anyone take them?

Had experience with them, good, bad or indifferent?

After extensive Googling, the verdict seems to be mainly positive, but a lot of it is anecdotal.

Also there are a lot of different options out there, i.e. 1 to 50 billion CFU's (colony-forming units) and liquids, pills or capsules and different bacteria or fungal cell strains.

Looking for them to help with basically Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms.

Spoiler: Company not honouring warranty

Hi ,we built a house 11 years ago

Spent alot on velfac windows and doors, we're just in their 12 year warranty

A small but important part in the sliding door to garden has broken off, they originally said they "go halves" and supply part if I paid for labour, it's a two man job for a day so around £400 labour

Part probaly £30...

Anyway the part didn't arrive and they suddenly offered to send engineer, I assumed to fit part

He did something to door and now it won't shut*

Firm are now claiming due to bad maintenance they aren't covering anything, they're also saying whole track needs replacing and maybe whole thing!

I'm ABIT shocked tbh

Not sure what to do it how to play it, whole thing with labour could be £5k

Trading standards?

Have we seen the last of the “Great British” politician

Brexit has controlled politics for 3 years, so let’s pretend that didn’t happen for a minute and take a look at politicians and politics without it for a little bit of fun (ish) debate

My question is to everyone ignoring your own political view eg lib / lab / con / snp etc .

Have we seen the last of the great politicians?

my reason for asking is in a world where you now live with social media, camera phones the internet etc is it possible to be a future politician without someone releasing a video / picture / voice recording or an old tweet that won’t come back and end your career before it even starts ?

Jack Rodwell to Roma

I know a bit of an odd thread to start, but I just read AS Roma, yes the big club in Serie A are about to sign career waster Jack Rodwell. Where the **** has that come from? The guy must have a really persuasive agent, that's all I have to say.

Played 21 games for Blackburn last season, a career of 189 League appearances in 12 seasons. Or 235 in all competitions, so less than 20 games per season in that time.

vagina museum

The Vagina Museum is due to open on November 16 in Camden Market, London, with the aim of spreading knowledge about 'gynaecological anatomy and health'.

According to its website it is the 'world's first bricks and mortar museum dedicated to vaginas'.

The museum has received widespread support with the public raising almost £50,000 to fund it and the Camden Council leader saying she is 'incredibly excited' for it.

Bit of a mixed bag from Batshuayi tonight.

After coming on, missed a sitter, but then scored a classic Batshuayi goal for the winner.

Do we run the risk of ending up like Stoke ?

Might seem strange seeing we have had a good start points wise , but I do wonder whether we are following a similar path to Stoke . They have a Chairman who obviously is Stoke through and through , but from memory they started to have an ageing squad with some very high earners . Suddenly from being a mid table side never looking like being relegated , they just went on a downward spiral .
I was going through our squad the other day and on the whole I like most of our squad as they seem really good decent professionals . However the average age of the squad does seem quite high and there is a lack of pace .
Ward , Tomkins , Cahill , Dann , McArthur , Kelly , Benteke , Sakho , Kouyate are all late 20s early 30s - if their performances / energy levels drop 5 % will we struggle ? Also quite a few them are missing more and more games through injury - add Wickham to the list ?
It does seem that RH prefers to have experienced players who he can rely on - which is working and hopefully keeps us up . Is this the best way to continue or should we try to bring some younger players with pace / creativity . Difficult to get balance right as we have Meyer and Camarassa but maybe RH is correct in that they just are not reliable enough to be more than bit part players . Maybe SP feels this is best policy until our finances are a little more healthy .

Betfair Rewards Plan

Just had a message from Betfair, saying something like:

"You have been opted in to our new Rewards plan"

On checking the 'Rewards' and 'Rewards plus' plans consist of various freebies ... and increased commission of 5% or 8% on net winnings, instead of the usual 2%. Having been opted in to the Rewards 5% commission plan, I opted straight back into the so-called 'Basic' plan, which has 2% commission.

Worth checking on this I think, if you have a Betfair account.

Prick in row 20 block D

mardi 22 octobre 2019

Who was that sad wanker who spent the whole game going on about a bloke in row 23.

Kept muttering to himself that he would lamp him if he had it in him and his mum next to him had to keep calming him down saying now now Bill, you know it’s not good to get worked up like this. Have another sip of your cocoa.

By the end of the game he was red faced with rage. I think he was starting to write a post about it on his phone on a football forum.

If you’re reading this, then I would suggest taking up yoga or meditation or something, all that impotent rage can’t be good for you. And sorry for calling you a prick and a wanker, I’m sure underneath it all you’re a lovely lad.

Brue Dyer

Just watched an interesting article on calendar local news program in yorkshire on Bruce Dyer who is now a pastor in church he has set up in Barnsley, quite a surprise ,
"Getting out of London was the best thing I ever did "he said
Going out drinking and taking drugs was his downfall , and moving to Barnsley changed his life . Good for him

The Price of Football podcast.

Hosted by Kevin Day and Kieran Maguire, it delves into the financial aspects of the game. Just listened to the first two episodes and some of the stuff that comes out is unreal...for example the Championship, across all the teams, made a £580m loss last year. The FA dont give a shit about professional football clubs. Also the goings on at Bury and Newcastle had my eyebrows heading to the ceiling.

Not receiving notifications

lundi 21 octobre 2019

Well, not strictly true. But they're all going into my spam folder. This starting happening all of a sudden recently, and is a real nuisance because I often forget to look in the spam folder. Virtually nothing else is being diverted into the spam folder except BBS notifications, so it is not a general problem

On several occasions I have marked all of the notifications "Not Spam" in the hope that the system will remember for the future, but to no avail. I'd be really grateful if someone can suggest why this suddenly started happening, and what I need to do to correct it.

Please make any suggestions so simple that a three year old could understand them - I am virtually computer illiterate :embarass::frown:

Watford should of had a penalty awarded yesterday , surly the referee should have been asked to go to the screen on the halfway line and review his decision ,
Not a single ref has used this facility so far , why not ? Surly it’s decisions like this that VAR was brought in for ?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Arsenal (away)

----------------------------Guaita----------------------------------
Ward---------Tomkins-----------------Cahill------------------PVA
------McArthur-----------Milivojevic-----------Kouyate-----------
-------Zaha---------------Benteke---------------Ayew-------------

Would love to see that front 3 as Ayew can track back, Benteke is an aerial threat they couldn't cope with last time and if JA tracks back it will give Wilf space to roam further forward. Expecting the following front 3 though, as surely Schlupp won't keep his place:

Townsend---------Ayew-----------Zaha

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 0-2 Man City

Nothing awful. The blueprint works but we are playing top sides. We win way more than we should and more than most do.

We conceded two.. the only error was Luka playing his man offside when he wasn’t by a mile but otherwise it’s more quality than blame to attach to the goals.

We hit the bar and forced a great save too.

Overall fine

Wayne motm. Sorry haters he was. Great back up

Ward, Cahill, Pva, jimmy and ayew were very good.

It’s fine

We faced a cracking team. No shame there

I love dogs, me. Cats too. They're 2 of the only species in the whole wide world that take a like to me but I'm looking after my sister's dog this weekend and he's lovely and all but he's got his head on my lap and snoring like a c*nt.
I've longed to have a dog since I had my Labrador when I was a kid but now I don't.
They're a snoring pain up the c*nt.

‘Common Goal’ - Charity Work by players

To view the link you have to Register or Login

This is good to see, some players that realise that a position of power is a responsibility rather than a privilege. I know some players like Zaha and Drogba give money to charity from their wages, this article makes out that if you dont give to common goal that players are doing nothing which isnt the case but players could do more. 1% of anyones salary is nothing but the more you earn the more you could make an impact so I find it odd more players are not conscious enough to do something.

I think more of this and I would respect footballers alot more, rather than see them as grown children.

Kicks off 12:30 - Everton v West Ham.

Can see West Ham taking this one and then big pressure on the Everton board.

Looking at Everton’s forthcoming fixtures, they have what looks like a good run coming up (Brighton, Spurs, Soton, Norwich), before a horrendous December fixture list (Leicester, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Burnley).

If they don’t pick up a decent points haul in their next 5 games then they are in serious trouble.

SNP

Thought I’d start a new thread on the politics forum as the other one is on GCC.

And so the opportunist Sturgeon is sabre rattling once more and Indyref2 is starting to look a real possibility as early as next year.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Yes, this once in a generation question is going to be asked again....five years after it was last asked. Living up here and seeing the total mess the SNP are making of public services, especially health and education, it sends shivers up the spine to think they may get their way. But the main reason another referendum worries me is, as we saw we the previous one and of course Brexit, it is a sure fire way to split a country in half and unleash deep seated hatred among the population. Certainly the tension and anger it created the last time was not nice.

I do have time for the SNP politicians; in general their social moral compass points generally in the right direction and certainly more than the Tories, although that’s not saying much; and I like seeing them in the House of Commons in numbers, making our Parliament a more democratic one and giving it to the Tories, seeing as Labour have lost all ability to do so.

But this rabid obsession to go independent is increasingly becoming a real threat, and of course Cameron and the other idiotic Tories have handed them an open goal and another reason to scream ‘yes’ again.

We Chat / using Whatsapp in China

Has anyone had any experience of using Whatsapp in China? I've heard anecdotally that as long as you have it installed before you go it's fine but when you google it you just get VPN companies telling you they are needed.

I've also tried to set up WeChat as an alternative. What a nightmare! It locked up immediately and now I can't unlock it. Has anyone had it for more than 6 months and if so would you mind helping me unlock my account?

Should it be frowned upon to state publicly how you voted?

As we approach a general election with all that entails, I was thinking about how the political temperature could be dialled down and cool down some of the frantic nonsense that has made political discourse impossible over the last four or five years.

The way I see it is that the way someone votes should be somebodies own personal choice and the result of that person doing their own research and voting in line with their needs and with their own conscience.

Now you could never ban such a thing but I see it as similar to somebody who discusses how much money they give to charity, it stops being something that they wanted to do for somebody else and starts to be something which benefits themselves.

This is a particular problem with the left (probably because they are better online campaigners and tend to campaign on emotive issues) as they race onto every online platform to express that they have voted for the good guys and therefore they must be truly virtuous in the rest of their life. It grates unbelievably and to me it promotes the dumbing down of politics and perpetuates the herd culture where people don't think for themselves, they merely see some snappy slogan see something that seems fashionable and vote that way.

If political parties didn't know that people online would peddle their empty slogans quite so feverishly maybe they might concentrate on actually going into detail.

Maybe I am just prematurely middle aged but I find the whole thing just becomes unbearable in the run up to a general election (and afterwards if Labour don't win like 2015 protests).

Suggestion: Florent Mollett

Seen this guy a few times over the last few years and follow french football fairly closely and think that this guy would be a good fit for us. Whilst perhaps not the exact position we need right now, he fits the mould of what Roy expects from his midfielders perfectly and would suit our narrow midfield 4

Two footed, very good crosser of the ball and a good finisher. His stats don't amaze you, but if you looked at the stats of Jimmy Mac for example, nor would he.

He can play out wide in a 4, 3 or behind a striker. Could be available for around £5m given previous transfer fees and their league position.

Apparently we are interested in the Inter Milan 23 year old. Was the next big thing as a teenager in Brazil, the 'new Neymar'.

However never cut it at Inter after his big transfer to Europe, or on loan at Benfica, and has been back in Brazil on loan for a while.

His current loan (to Flamengo) ends 31st December, reportedly.

A flair player and a goal scorer, but really doesn't seem a Hodgson type player. Probably bullshit, but who knows

Lapsed Fan

Hello All

I was formerly a season ticket holder at Selhurst, had to give it up the season we were promoted as I relocated for work up North for the long-term.

Having originally tried to keep in touch with the team, I think Premier League football and seeing Selhurst now selling out when I fondly remembered grim sub-10k attendances on cold midweek nights in the Championship made me feel the club didn't really need me clinging on.. I now follow Rochdale and have a season ticket there. All the grim memories and then some catered for.

I was curious about a few things if you don't mind-

- Has the stadium improved since the promotion season?
- Did that documentary on the promotion season ever get released?
- Has Coppell ever returned in any capacity?
- Has the ownership changed?
- For those who followed the club during the seemingly endless years in the Championship, does it still feel like the same club?

I am really pleased for the club and I know I am breaking the cardinal rule of football, but I want my sons to support a local team (in the same way my dad did me, despite not being a Palace Fan) so Palace are a thing of the past for me... but I still do keep an eye out every Saturday for the scores.

Immigrate or Emigrate

In the early 2000s I built a pan European media brand from London. At the time London was a city of opportunity and many young, talented Europeans moved here to build careers and find opportunity that was either closed to them at home or would take years to get into.

I employed mainly Brits but also French, Germans, Italians and a Finnish guy all of whom subsequently went on to have successful careers elsewhere.

With London rents what they now are, the weakness of the pound and of course the spectre of Brexit I very much doubt similar Europeans are moving to London in such numbers. Moreover lots of talented, ambitious young Brits want to get out.

So the question is would you recommend a 24 year old Brit with a degree and a sharp eye to stay in the UK or leave for pastures new?

Likewise would you recommend say their Danish equivalent move to London?

The last 20 years

samedi 12 octobre 2019

Bloody hell, I've just realised I recently ticked over 20 years on the BBS, having apparently joined on 7th October 1999. Not been here as long as many of you, of course, and certainly not posted as often as most, but still it feels like a long time.

So much has happened in that time. Just from a Palace perspective, there's been admin v1, last day survival at Stockport, some serious dross with few and far between brief periods of fun like under Bruce, the excitement of 2003/4 under Dowie > promotion then relegation, buggering up the play-offs, buggering up the league cup semi final a couple of times, admin v2, last day survival at Sheff Wed, new hope, promotion, a second FA Cup Final, and our longest ever stay in the top flight.

By far the biggest change for me personally in that time has been emigrating to Australia, and as a result having to give up my season ticket. To this day it still pisses me off that I can't go to the games, other than very few occasions. And worse still is that my 11 year old - who is absolutely bonkers about Palace - hasn't been able to experience what it's like to go every week. We've been back to the UK a couple of times and we've all gone to whatever game is on at the time, but it's not the same.

Anyway, here's to the next 20 years! :)

Apple Catalina OS

Heads up for anyone upgrading. This has the new Music app replacing iTunes. Looks clean and modern but be warned, when you first use it pretty much all the artwork for your music will seem to be not there. It seems to have to run a recatalogue exercise - shows “Artwork Loading” at the bottom. The process looks like it will take a looooong time and a lot of memory so just set it off and go on holiday for a few days. Mine started today about 10, new artwork popping up but only about 10% done in 3 hours. Probably won’t be syncing my phone music library until it’s finished either!

Similar process happens in the updated Photos app, took about 8 hours to re shape my 23k photos. Still usable while that was going on but again, slows everything down.

Female fans in Iran

In my ignorance I didn’t realise that women have effectively been banned from stadiums when men are playing since just after the 1979 Islamic revolution.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

WTF!?!?

Fifa are saying they are standing firm to ensure women have access to all football matches. My question is, why have FIFA allowed this to go on for so many years without any sanctions on Iranian football at all? Surely they should’ve been banned from all international competitions until they allow women in?

A 29 year old Iranian woman set fire to herself outside court last month as she awaited trial for trying to attend a match disguised as a man. She died a week later. Unbelievable.

I understand these sanctions are wrapped up in the country’s religion and culture, but surely that can’t be tolerated by the football world?

They’ll be hanging gays next...

John-Kymani Gordon

Selected by DF before he left the Guardian as one of the top talents for the next 5 years

A striker capable of operating centrally or on the flanks, Gordon's eye for goal saw him promoted to Palace's under-18s while still 15, impressing on debut in a defeat by Ipswich. He joined at the age of eight having been scouted playing locally at Purley Panthers, and over the next few years his progress earned appearances at several training camps before a call-up into Kevin Betsy's England Under-16 squad. He provided an assist on his debut for the national team. Gordon's hold-up play is a notable attribute but he is best when driving at players with pace and purpose. His first goal for Palace's under-18s was a last-gasp winner against Charlton, chesting the ball, swivelling and firing his shot low across the opposing goalkeeper and into the far corner. Perhaps his most eye-catching intervention, however, was an equaliser in April against Barcelona in the quarter-final of the Mediterranean International Cup, a tournament for players born in 2003. Did anyone notice this? Quite well done, at first I thought it was actually the front page of the Metro, until I looked closer. It was obviously timed to coincide with the Climate Change protests.

I wanted to know who had funded this (presumably quite expensive) ad. The big clue was on pages 3 and 4 of the wrap around. Page 3 said (in caps) … "Energy efficiency is the missing piece in the climate change debate …" and page 4 concluded "Join the conversation #missingpiece". At the bottom of page 4, there was a web link:

Spoiler: Ginger Baker RIP

Saw a great documentary recently on the Beeb. Crazy man.

New Lewisham Travelodge

I passed a building site on the bus this morning, where there used to be a small Turkish supermarket. It's a medium sized corner site, and I remember some years ago there was a short-lived jazz club on the 1st floor above one of the shops on this site. A few months ago, the buildings were suddenly closed and demolished, and a sign now reads something like: "Coming soon, a 127-bed Travelodge, right in Lewisham Town Centre". By making the new building 2-3 times the height of the previous one, the can squeeze over 100 rooms in ...

To view the link you have to Register or Login

It's on the road from Lewisham to Catford, on the southern edge of Lewisham Town Centre, about 5 minutes walk from the Clock Tower, and 10-15 minutes walk from the station.

As a frequenter of Lewisham both day and night, I think it's got pluses and minuses. On the plus side, the shops and market together provide a reasonable choice at good prices. The long-running fruit and veg market, unlike some in London, seems to do well. There's a decent M&S, and the usual Primark, H&M, TK Maxx etc. WH Smith survives by having the main post office in-store. A few minutes from the centre, Lee High Road has a lot of cheap cafes, restaurants and hairdressers, which are busy.

Transport is excellent, with the main National Rail station and the newer DLR and lots of buses. It's easy to get to places like Greenwich and Docklands on the DLR, and the City or West End are accessible on National Rail.

On the downside, there's a lot of traffic, and it's pretty dead at night. There's a popular Wetherspoons, and a newer Antic pub called Suttons which struggles to attract many people, apart from the weekly Sunday quiz night. There are a few more pubs scattered around, and a bowling alley. And I think that's about it for a night out in Lewisham town centre. (In contrast, nearby Greenwich and Blackheath are busy with a good choice of pubs and restaurants.)

So when I saw the sign for the new 127 bed Travelodge, on the 'wrong' side of Lewisham, I started wondering if it would actually work, and who would want to stay in a budget hotel in that part of Lewisham. The 'Murky Depths' writer above ponders the same question.

There's a Premier Inn opposite Lewisham station, which has been there for a few years. It's 2 minutes walk from the station as opposed to 10-15 for the new Travelodge.

Premier Inn describe the Lewisham location as:
"A bustling south of the river spot, with great links to central London and Canary Wharf"

Everton

samedi 5 octobre 2019

After hearing an assortment of deluded Everton fans bray over the Wilf saga and Silva's pathetic comments post opening game, it's been worth watching Everton's results to see how well their expectations of breaking the top six manifest.

This from the BBC Sport Website on their defeat at Burnley today made particularly pleasant reading:

Having spent more than £100m on new signings in the summer, Everton had harboured hopes of breaking into the top six. Instead, they find themselves just one place outside the relegation zone with two wins from their opening eight games this term.

They will drop into the bottom three at the end of the weekend if Newcastle beat Manchester United at St James' Park on Sunday.

This was the first time since January 2015 under Roberto Martinez that Everton had lost four in a row in the league and after keeping back-to-back clean sheets at the start of the season, Everton have now gone without one for six games.

It is evident where their problem lies.

Since Silva came to England in January 2017 as Hull manager, his sides - which also include Watford - have conceded 45 goals from set-pieces, including six this campaign - a league high.

Failing to pick up Hendrick proved vital on this occasion and the home fans chanted "you're getting sacked in the morning" in Silva's direction.

Silva stood inside his dugout for the duration of the game - slipping his hands into his pockets after his side conceded and looking forlornly at the turf.

creative midfield player = goals from open play

Brilliant win tonight, no doubt about that.

However, how many more games do we have to suffer for 70-80 minutes (luckily getting penalties) before we actually add some creativity to our midfield?

Two weeks now Andros has contributed significantly to goals from open play.

Roy has got to try adding more creativity into midfield. Who do you think drops out after the international break? Personally just can't see MM or VC ever starting for Palace again without an injury forcing Roy's hand.

I'm delighted with our form this season but I'd love to see this team reach it's potential and start playing some exciting football, at a higher tempo.

Rory Stewart stands down from Tories and as an MP

Bit of a surprise. Thought he came across well in the Tory leadership race, surprised he isn't carrying on as an independent but confirmed he will stand down as an MP at the next General Election entirely.

RIP Kim Shattuck

Fans of 90's Cali Punk will know..

Sadly it appears that Lori Meyers no longer lives upstairs. Loved The Muffs, had a few of their tunes in seminal 90's Kevin Smith films and the like.

Suggestion: Gabriel Martinelli

Just watched the highlights for the Arsenal match. Think it would be worth trying to take this lad on loan in January if he's not featuring in their first team.

Obviously hot property right now, but it would be disappointing if we didn't at least inquire.

Japan based BBSers

I know we have some, but for the life of me can't remember who...I have a translation type question if one of you could message me please. :)

My son has gained his black belt in karate and is having a special belt made with a message embroidered in Japanese on it. His mum wants to see what the message will look like in Japanese characters, and the translate apps seem to throw up differing options.

Fantasy Signing

If you could wave a magic wand and sign any one player currently playing, who would you choose and why?

I'd probably go for Kevin De Bruyne. Aside from the way he'd open up defenses for Wilf and Andros, his crosses would make Benteke a viable option.

Anyway, what do others here think?

Scotland to be first UK country to ban smacking

I wonder if we'll follow suit with this and also ban smacking. Whilst I was brought up in an era where you got a whacked bum if you were bad, I've always considered the use of physical discipline archaic. You could argue that the children in my era (and beyond) were more respectful that the children of these day but should smacking really be necessary to teach your child a lesson.

I can't say I've ever hit my Daughter and nor would I. How can you teach a child that hitting is wrong, if you then go on to hit them. Double standards.

I expect a reply to an effect of 'my parents smacking me never did me any harm' no doubt.

PMQ’s

Interesting one yesterday as Dominic Rabb and Diane Abbott stepped in. Both made slight conventional gaffes; Rabb interrupted Abbott before she’d asked a question and Abbott showed her prowess in arithmetic again by attempting to ask more than the six questions she’s allocated.

Most interesting part though was Ken Clarke at 19:50 and really outlined the civil war going on in the Tory party. Not my favourite politician, but the way Rabb referred to him as ‘chuntering’ was really disrespectful. If they dismiss their own like that then think how they view the rest...

Boris Johnson assassinated!!

He hasn't been really...but be honest, I cheered you up for 15 seconds.

Crystal Ball: West Ham - Palace

Predictions as per usual, score, scorers and attendance.

Dominic Cummings

This odious turd probably deserves a thread of his own.

He's been identified as the person who lied to the press about the Benn Act being drafted with foreign collusion.

He is the man behind all recent events, the sacking of tory MPs, the illegal prorogation of Parliament, the poisonous rhetoric that Boris is now adopting.

Who elected him anyway? Funny how brexiteers rile against unelected EU bureaucrats but are quite silent on the unelected power of Cummings.

Peter Sissons RIP

Another face of my youth gone. Always seemed pretty level headed from what I remember, although apparently became a little outspoken in his later years.

Record signings

mardi 1 octobre 2019

Thought it would be interesting to compile a list of Palace’s record signings throughout our history.

Not sure if I’m right, but this is what I’ve come up with so far. Can others correct and fill in the gaps?

The Clive Allen one has stumped me a bit. He was a swap deal along with Paul Barron for Kenny Sansom so no price was published I don’t think. Arsenal did sign him 2 months before for £1.25m, but recall Sansom’s price was £1m so have to presume that was Allen’s value too.

Autumn 72. Don Rogers. £147,000
Summer 78. Mike Elwiss. £200,000
Summer 79. Mike Flanagan. £650,000
Summer. 80. Clive Allen. £1m ?
October 91. Marco Gabbiadini. £1.8m
January 98. Valerian Ismael. £2.75m
July 13. Dwight Gayle. £4.5m
Sep 14. James McArthur. £7m
July 15. Yohan Cabaye. £10m
July. 16. Andros Townsend. £13m
Aug. 16. Christian Benteke. £27m rising to £32m

Colour slides of Selhurst from the 60s

Found some of my Grandad's slides of a game, taken from the main stand probably sometime between 1964-66 - judging by the white kit

I used a DIY method to digitise these - taped them to my window that faces a white wall and took a photo! Hence the poor quality. Should get a much better result when I have them digitised professionally!
