John-Kymani Gordon

Selected by DF before he left the Guardian as one of the top talents for the next 5 years

A striker capable of operating centrally or on the flanks, Gordon's eye for goal saw him promoted to Palace's under-18s while still 15, impressing on debut in a defeat by Ipswich. He joined at the age of eight having been scouted playing locally at Purley Panthers, and over the next few years his progress earned appearances at several training camps before a call-up into Kevin Betsy's England Under-16 squad. He provided an assist on his debut for the national team. Gordon's hold-up play is a notable attribute but he is best when driving at players with pace and purpose. His first goal for Palace's under-18s was a last-gasp winner against Charlton, chesting the ball, swivelling and firing his shot low across the opposing goalkeeper and into the far corner. Perhaps his most eye-catching intervention, however, was an equaliser in April against Barcelona in the quarter-final of the Mediterranean International Cup, a tournament for players born in 2003.
