What makes a Palace legend?

samedi 5 janvier 2019

Interesting to read with Puncheon’s loan to Huddersfield some posters at odds at whether Jason is a Palace legend or not.

Got me thinking; what constitutes a ‘Palace Legend’?

The first people that come to my mind are Cannon, Hilaire, Thomas, Wright, Bright, AJ, Speroni, Zaha, Coppell...

Kenny Sansom is probably one of the most talented players we’ve produced and most successful in terms of international recognition, but I wouldn’t class him a legend, as I wouldn’t Punch despite a couple of great seasons and THAT goal at Wembley. Moses, another one of our most successful products but a legend? I wouldn’t say so.

There are notable players through the years like Mabbutt, Gilbert, Murphy, Nicholas, Gray, Salako, Shipperley, Butterfield, Derry, Hill...but would you class them as legendary status?

Ambrose? Has every right to be classed a legend because of the goal he scored at our most desperate moment, but is he?

Personally, I think status of legend has to have quite tight parameters and only reserved for a select few whose achievements out weigh most of our other loved players.

So what do others think is the criteria and standard that a player has to achieve to be considered a legend? And who are yours?

Hopefully we can come to some agreement by the end of this thread.

No chance! :D
