Bought a (troubled) car -- Warranty, Garage, Dealer issue

vendredi 18 janvier 2019

Having been hit with lots of advice from those around me after my new second hand car hit trouble last week within two weeks of buying it. I thought i'd turn to the BBS for a little bit of helpful advice.
Basically within a few days i'd noticed i was getting pretty strong exhaust fumes coming into the car when reversing or dawdling through town (to the extent where me and the missus had to wind down the windows and pull up at one stage). During my 50 miles commute, no real problems although i'd often use the recycle air just in case but did try experimenting to see if i could find a pattern. Its a Seat Leon TDi Ecomotive so nowt racy.
Long and short is i went down the 3 month warranty route as advised by the dealers in the past, who basically logged the the issue and sent me on my way to my local garage for diagnosis. Stating that dependent on the findings whether they'd pay or not pay out. Now the garage has put it down to a leaking turbo (no pound signs excitement there is there) despite a new one being fitted last year. Needless to say the turbo got checked twice (properly the 2nd time after a little moan in the direction of the warranty company) and is now coming back with a clean bill of health as such. So it's looking like the warranty has nothing to cover, as the labour will only be covered should there be a defect. Now i'm currently stuck in that awkward position of hitting the dealer hard on next recourse of action and the possibility of questioning my local garages potential for misdiagnosis (has happened in the past with work vans) in the vain hope of keeping the bill down. Gut feeling says when the turbo is re-fitted the same issue is likely to arise, which will leave the garage with a perfect get out of maintaining the issue is with the turbo and not looking further afield without further labour costs. He certainly seems to be putting all his eggs in one basket and can be a real teeth sucker at times.

The dealer has asked to be kept informed and was supposedly having a word with the warranty company a couple of days ago, although with the turbo now being given a bill of health i'd say the warranty company are off the hook under their terms.

Any ideas on my next possible course of correct action before i blunder in all South London, like i have been known to in the past, but am currently trying not to get into a muddle and work through it methodically. At this stage i really don't want to get rid of the car (it would need to back to Birmingham and is pretty decent apart from this :D) and would mean i'd probably end up back to square one with my old Smart i traded in, and still looking for yet another car which i have precious little time for.
Any advice great or small would be appreciated and even the odd laugh would help because i know there will be a few smart answers on the South London way to come for sure :p
