Something is rotten at the club

Now I have defended Parish against a lot of the trolls on here and have tried to keep a balanced view as much as I can, however a small rumour I've heard tonight (which is probably rubbish anyway) has just pushed me over the edge. If it's true it will unfortunately prove all the anti Parish brigade right so I hope to god it's not, however if it is then I will lose any respect I have for him.

I don't want to give details in case they're not true it but it falls along the lines of him wanting out, which we probably all knew anyway, but more the way he has been going about it.

Regardless, things really stink at the club right now and something major needs to happen to change it.

We are the James Bond of the Premier League

007 - no wins, no goals, seven games.

Sorry I'll get me coat.

The curse of the pub

Just struck me that the minute someone from the club shows how 'in touch' they are by heading down the boozer with the HF, our form goes to sh*t.

Pards started it after Southampton at home, prompting our demise in 15/16.

Then Punch and Wilf did it after Hull and we haven't got a point or goal since.

So... stay out of the pub lads!

What will you look forward to the most

If or when we get relegated

Will it be trips to millwall and Sunny se16

Will it be a full midweek fixture list

Will it be less tv coverage

Will it be able to watch everyone complete at the same level

Will it be the new ground :-)

Will it be losing the plastics

What are you looking forward to the most if we get relegated ?

Who will replace Roy?

So who's next? When we lose to Chelsea he's in the same position as Frank. The precedent's been set so who will our glorious chairman replace him with?

In the market for a new TV. Have done a bit of research and I am down to these two (but open to advice on other models).

Is the OLED screen worth it considering the 10inches less in screen size?

Price in Switzerland is the same for both models (£1,100) and don't really want to spend much more than that.

Harry Kane

I admit I thought he looked a bit shit when he first got in the team at Spurs, but seriously how good is he? Got to be worth well over 100M by today's prices

I mentioned Adán yesterday then came across this little article this morning.

I would absolutely love us to buy him especially if his release clause is still sub £8m. A very talented goalkeeper and a real leader on the pitch. Should have at least had a call up for a Spain squad by now.

I haven't done a poll (could a mod be so kind ) but my money's on furk ( a late starter ) or wiggers ( a old nag ) . Over to you .

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Live Streams

There was a time when I could generally get a average to decent stream showing Palace without too much trouble . This season though I am having no such luck - covered in ads which I cant get rid of , warning messages saying site is a risk or just poor quality stop start . Reading match day thread many seem to have no such problem . Not being an IT expert is there something I am doing wrong or is it just luck finding a stream that is compatible to my PC ?

Argos captured in their scam.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

We all know that all companies do this with their 'so-called' promotions, but Argos are really trying to wheedle their way out of this one.

Classic 3 for 2 new offer - where they have bumped the prices up for the offer treating customers as stupid.

Then, saying there was a technical hitch that didn't show the previous prices were also a promotion.

Still, a couple of BBSers will be on later saying BBSers in general don't understand the retail business; and because they once got a cheap kettle at Argos, the company are gold star.

Carlo Ancelotti sacked

Pretty much what the title says. Slightly surprised, Bayern don't typically pull the trigger so early in the season.

There was talk of them bringing in the Hoffenheim coach next Summer. Will they go for him now? Or bring in a caretaker until then?

What would Big Sam do? (With Benteke injured)

He wouldn't sit around trying to get an over-the-hill, unfit, nonscoring journeyman over the line. Definitely not. Instead he'd emphasise that a point is better than none. We are where we are. Let's at least try to get a point on the board, and go from there.

We have three good centre backs when playing a deep line (Sakho, Tomkins and Dann are all capable), and we have a plethora of full backs to choose from. Plus we have some decent defensive midfielders; Luka and Cabaye are more than capable, plus the useful addition of the left-footed Riedewald. So let's tighten up the midfield, and try to grind out a 0-0. It might not be pretty, but let's frustrate Man Utd and Chelsea. We are capable of doing so. Even if we lose those 2, let's do the same away at Newcastle. We need to get on the board as soon as possible, but a point to stop the rot will be better than none.

Let's try to be positive, by being negative. Let's be hard to beat. A tight defensive 4-4-1-1 or 4-5-1. We can get out of this mess. COYP.

Middle Class Indian Communication

My firm does a lot of work with India, and I love the hyper correct English they use. When I ask them for something they always respond with:

"I will do the needful"

This week an Indian colleague was in London and scheduled a meeting with me. He then sent me an email saying his itinerary had changed and could he "prepone" our meeting. Apparently this means to "bring it forward" and is the opposite of postpone. Obvious really.

Never heard it before. But it is beautiful.

He looked comfortable in both no.10 and as a winger. Still needs time to develop but would probably have a little more time on the ball in the Premiership and could be a long-term replacement for Puncheon.

Why Palace and Burnley's defence is so different

Quote:

Burnley – as we’ve all known for a while – allow the opposition to have the ball and, to an extent, to take a few shots. As long as these aren’t good shots, Sean Dyche’s men don’t seem to mind too much, even when these chances are taking place relatively close to goal. Palace is not quite a sieve, but more like a badly designed gold-pan that lets through all the gold.

Good article.

Dann and Delaney used to be good at this. They would throw themselves in the way of everything. And whilst I have to agree, Delaney has had his day, Tomkins was certainly a step backward in this area for me and Kelly is certainly not up to this level. I think Sakho does have more of this kind of attitude and is probably why we do a little better with him in the side.

Still... our defence being crap doesn't mean much if we can't score either! :D

Project Cars 2

This is an amazing driving game once you set your control options up as the default settings can be greatly improved upon.

There are Youtube videos to help with this thankfully as it can be very frustrating constantly spinning out of control.

This is not so much an arcade racer as a race simulator with 9 different driving types and loads of race classes.

You can use any of the 180 cars from the start.

There are 60 tracks and over 100 routes.

You can alter the weather conditions on all tracks from light rain which will gradually get heavier to heavy snow.

I would suggest leaving the conditions as dry until you get used to the car handling.

You have the ability to race online or offline in set or custom races.

The computer AI offers a stern challenge even with the difficulty level ramped right down on beginner.

There is an extensive career mode as well.

You can race up to 32 cars in a race and in custom race mode you can set the number of laps or time duration of a race then if you want you can take your created race online or race against the AI drivers.

Once you master the handling this is a great driving game.

Palace's 2017 defence

Quite interesting analysis here:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

"The team with the highest rate [chances conceded with fewer than two men between .. shot and .. goal]– and this won’t be surprising at all – is Crystal Palace, with 32% of the chances that they conceded through their first five matches taking place with fewer than two men between the shot and their goal. With this figure and a number of chances that they’re conceding per match, it’s no surprise that they’re doing badly.

Focusing down to a more specific area of the pitch, Burnley and Palace provide a good case study of different types of defending.

In the Danger Zone (definitions differ insignificantly but for the purposes of this article, it is the width of the six-yard box stretching from the goal-line to the edge of the eighteen-yard box), Burnley has actually conceded more chances (38) than Palace (24), according to Stratagem’s data.

However, a full 50% of the chances that Palace have allowed in the Danger Zone have come with fewer than two men in front of goal, whereas for Burnley this figure is just 23.68%. For over 18% of these chances, Burnley has got five or more men in front of the shot, against a big fat zero for the Eagles.

So from initially having the better number of Danger Zone chances conceded (24 vs 38), this is turned on its head looking at these ‘super dangerous’ chances, where Burnley have only conceded 9 to Palace’s 12.

But there’s more. According to Stratagem’s data, Burnley put far more pressure on the shooter than Crystal Palace do. For chances in the Danger Zone, Burnley average as the third-most pressuring side in the league, whereas Palace is 19th.

Burnley – as we’ve all known for a while – allow the opposition to have the ball and, to an extent, to take a few shots. As long as these aren’t good shots, Sean Dyche’s men don’t seem to mind too much, even when these chances are taking place relatively close to goal. Palace is not quite a sieve, but more like a badly designed gold-pan that lets through all the gold."

Just wondering if anyone here knew what the deal was with regards to asking out a junior auditor for a drink who is currently doing an audit on the company that I work for?

I assume that I cannot ask and she cannot agree due to conflict of interest, ethics, professional standards, etc but just wanted to check.

Suggestion: Devante Cole - Fleetwood Town

I really think Palace need to be looking at this kid!

He is Andy Cole's son and is absolutely scoring for fun currently in League One for Fleetwood. Yes a big step up but deserves a chance and if the worst happened and we did drop this season he would be ready made for the Championship.

Definitely a player we need to be looking at, wouldn't cost huge amounts either. One to watch!

Most league defeats from start of season

...is not actually Palace. It's Man U.

In the 1930/31 season they lost their first 12 games. In the top division.

I know this doesn't help our situation, but it's made me feel a bit better.

Did parish expect to be relegated ?

lundi 25 septembre 2017

The more and more i think about it the more it seems true

Our inability to sign players in the positions we need

Bringing in de bore bore who was not backed in the transfer window

Signing players that he knows will be sold for as much as was paid

Bringing in dougie who in my opinion will be overseeing the january transfer window and will then be taking over when and if the inevitable happens

Everything that has happened just does not seem right for our 5th season in the top flight

Suggestion: Rudd Boymans

28 free agent and good scoring record.

Emergency Striker Loan?

Does such a thing exist? I know emergency goalkeeper loans have happened, just wondered if it was possible.

The goals from: who?

most creative ideas for filling our vacant striker position...

I suggest:
- CYL mounted on Sako's shoulders, so Lee can whisper inventive ideas into Sako's ear, like his cool back pass at Burnley.
- no striker, but instead play three left backs, it'll confuse people "WTF?!? these guys have three left backs all on the pitch at the same time".
- play Benteke anyway, he may actually move around more to avoid something or someone hitting his injured knee.
- book continuous, round the clock friendly matches against Bromley so Freddie Ladapo can gain a seasons worth of Conference level football experience, but condensed into a two week period. He can then play in the Premiere League, struggle and we will then realise that having one fit striker for a Premier League club with five years in the division is a shambolic and irresponsible state of affairs which will relegate us.

Suggestion: Giuseppe Rossi

Worth a punt and a free agent.

Jimmay Mac - could do a job?

Prepared to be flayed alive for this suggestion, but here goes....

Jimmy Mac. Not a first choice for midfield. Good shot on him. Good header of the ball. Great engine. Could he do a Jerome / Chamakh-esque role up top? Tirelessly chasing the back 4 down, running the channels etc. He's got decent off the ball movement too and could allow RLC, Zaha, Townsend etc to have a bit more joy in and around him around the box?

Benteke Injured and out for 6-8 weeks

any update on Benteke's scan?

Discussion: Squad management and implications for Jan and Summer 2018.

I am not alone in being a bit of a broken record on this at the minute but I am really worried about the state of our current squad and it's ongoing management with regard to this and next season. The transfer thread seems to be the right place to look at it because the conclusions are all about the ins and outs. I should add that this is as clinical as I can get it and so it will no doubt sound harsh but it's trying to be factual.

The current 25+ (according to tfr thread) has 11 players that will leave us unless new contracts are offered. So almost half of the squad will naturally turnover without incoming fees. This includes 2 Loan players. The players potentially leaving are: Speroni, Delaney, Cabaye, Hennessey, McArthur, Sako, Lee, Ward, KaiKai, Loftus-Cheek, Fosu-Mensah.

For reference that leaves: Puncheon, Dann, Tomkins, Sakho, Kelly, Souare, PVA, Milivojevic, Townsend, Mutch, Zaha, Schlupp, Riedewald, Wickham and Benteke. Probably worth noting that Mutch appears to have left for all intents and purposes and so he should probably be moved to the first group but that does assume we can move him on. Without action we will have 0 keepers, 7 defenders, 6 midfielders (excl Mutch), 2 strikers (a luxury if fit). Within those defenders would be 3 LBs and no RB.

Out of the 25+, 9 players will be over 30 before the next season (7 of those overlap with leavers) and so unlikely to be offered long, if any contracts. If we stay in the Premier I would expect KaiKai to leave. If we are relegated he may get a reprieve and also Joniesta would likely return?

If relegated, of those in contract I assume Townsend, Zaha, Benteke and Sakho would be targeted by other clubs and we might want to move on due to wages. Wickham also but without any playing time this seems less likely. I guess if the nightmare of relegation was to arrive it could be said we have planned this nicely :( because slashing the wage bill looks quite achievable with 3 or 4 sales. Replacing the leaving players does look to me like a nightmare whether we stay up or not. Without looking back too much, this really is the result of 4 relegation struggles and the reallocation of funds to 'bigger name players' and rollercoaster of Managers/Management. This thread is more about looking forward.

So while today's job is survival what context will our Jan window have because the division and this squad refresh challenge ? It's difficult to summarise and easier perhaps to look at the Summer window in 2 ways with survival or relegation and then work back to December. I have some thoughts about this but will post later. Best to post the data first.

As a hint, even an early glance at this pushed me straight out of the 'ideal' into the pragmatic which will I think re-signing some players we might ideally like to let go at the risk of longer contracts than are wise. But Premiership prices and our inability to bring players in from abroad at good prices to date) will force this I think. Replacing Cabaye will be really tough.

The relegation scenario ironically might be easier to re-stock for in theory but really tough to bounce back from.

Suggestion: Alberto Gilardino

Available on a Free. Given our lack of a striker if Benteke is out for a sustained period we could do a lot worse. Ex Italian International. Knows where the goal is and handy in the air too.

Scott Dann -Striker

Seems to me the best bet in the short term is play Dann upfront. Sako can support him until Wilf is fit.

A central defender with an eye for goal makes sense and will know how to hold the ball up.

Tomkins and Sakho at CB with TFM and Souare at FB.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Currency exchange

I run/own a business that carries out all transactions in USD, thus nearly all my cash is held in a USD account.

In order to pay salaries, dividends, domestic invoices etc. I need to keep my GBP account topped up which means exchanging between currencies.

Until now I’ve used my bank to carry out the exchanges and never much questioned the rates they’ve given me, but with rates as they are right now I’ve begun to look at foreign exchange companies that may be able to beat the rates given by my bank and help save a sufficient amount of money.

Does anyone regularly exchange reasonably significant amounts of foreign currency and can recommend the best means of doing so, or better yet work in the industry and can offer any advice?

Currently banking with Lloyds, but not against switching accounts if anyone has any better suggestions.

Thanks a lot.

Your Musical Influences.

Looking back, mine are mainly from my mum.

She loved Neil Diamond, Neil Sedaka and stuff like that
I find myself loving that stuff too.
Strauss was another one.
Now our family were never classical musical people but I grew up loving The Blue Danube. And if you sit down and listen to it, it's rather beautiful.

Anyhoo, because of influences, I love Diamond, Sedaka and a bit of Strauss...I prefer Mozart if I'm honestyou?

11pts from 13, 16pts from 22, 19pts from 25

11pts from 13, 16pts from 22, 19pts from 25

To put things into perspective, that was our record last season, and we still stayed up. Granted, we had Benteke and Wilf fit all season and BFS (albeit for half a season), but this year we'll have Sakho for more than 8 games and Fosu-Mensah and Loftus-Cheek instead of Ward and Puncheon, and of course Luka for the entire season.

We'll probably have no points from 8 games. Can we get 11 points in the 5 matches after that to match last season? Probably not, we play:
Newcastle (A)
West Ham (H)
Tottenham (A)
Everton (H)
Stoke (H)

Maybe we can get 5-7 points.

Next 9 games are:
Brighton (A)
West Brom (A)
Bournemouth (H)
Watford (H)
Leicester (A)
Swansea (A)
Arsenal (H)
Man City (H)
Southampton (A)

Maybe we can get 10-12 points. That would put us on roughly 15-19 points from 22 games. Similar to last season (16pts from 22).

Next matches 3 are:
Burnley (H)
Arsenal (A)
West Ham (A)

Hopefully we can get 4 points, putting us on 19-22 points after 25 games, which is more or less the same as last season.

Obviously this is hugely contingent on current first-teamers staying fit and Benteke not being out for longer than the next 5-7 matches, hopefully back for Brighton (A) on the 28th of November.

I don't know, I guess the point I'm trying to make is that we're not down and out just yet. The fact we saved ourselves last season with essentially 13 games to go gives me some hope.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man utd

Player Ratings And Reviews: Man City away

Didn't deserve to go in losing at half time. Ran out of steam in the second half. Forget the scoreline, City will be challenging for the title this season, just as we'll be battling against relegation. But, this was a massively improved performance from previous matches. You can already see the structure which Hodgson has installed in the side.

Lots of positives to take from today. Keep working away at it Roy.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Man City away

No-one doing this?

As one of the unfortunates who braved today I'll give it a mini go.

Despite the scoreline I thought we were excellent in the first half and were incredibly unlucky to go a goal down before HT. Had no luck with Ruben's run and shot off the post and Sane's goal was a combination of brilliance and Wayne Hennessey. Thought RLC and Andros were exceptional going forward and Sakho was a rock at the back. PVA surprisingly good as well. If we play like that against most teams in the league we'll get plenty of positive results.

Second half we looked knackered and City picked us apart at will. What Hennessey was doing for their fourth I'll never know. If we go down on GD he is heavily to blame for so many avoidable goals.

Really felt for Roy as he picked the right team and we were great in the first half. The confidence just drained after that sucker punch before HT. Benteke's injury just topped things off. We deserved a bit more luck today.

Well done to Andros and Punch who dragged the whole team over to the away end at full-time.

On to United...

Parachute payments ?

Would i be correct in saying they are £102 million pounds over 3 years ?

Year 1 £47 million
Year 2 £38 million
Year 3 £17 million

Add to that the sale of players where i would say we would claw back aprox £60 million

So relegation could be worth £160 million over 3 years add to that the football league prize fund
and there is no way that sum would be reinvested back in players

Where if we was to remain in the premier and Finnish 15th for 3 seasons the club would pocket £345 million

Today was the first time....

Today was the first time since promotion we didnt play one player from our promotion winning team.

In fact the further we get away from it the shitter we have become.

Coincidence? Or is/was team spirit and unity massively underestimated?

Question about cars

So I got back to the long stay car park after a holiday and the car won't start. Turns out the missus left the interior light on. I had jump leads, so no issue it was going again in a few minutes thanks to a kind stranger. Then I had an hour's drive home so that was easily enough time to charge it up. Anyway the next day, the car won't start again, a dead battery. My question is could completely draining the battery 'break' it or has my alternator gone as well which would be a coincidence?

Ps sorry for the full thread haha

Online abuse of Roy

Is anyone else getting fed up with the online abuse of Roy Hodgson on social media .It varies from mocking his speech impediment to so called funny images of him caught of guard in a photo with a "funny" caption.

Has Roy ever done anything that warrants this level of abuse or am I being over sensitive?

What will come first - point or a goal?

We're at 6-0-0 after today, so what will come first, a point or a goal?

Worst start to a season in the history of English League Football

Yes, really. First time *ever* an English league team has started the season with zero points and zero goals. A quite incredible achievement, really.

If only someone somewhere had a crystal ball that suggested we might struggle with a Championship keeper, no back-up centre forward and a complete lack of squad depth, eh?

Oh dear...

Would You Take Relegation If it Came with Scoring at Least One Goal?

Just asking!

Do we have an u23 keeper?

Any ideas? If jules can't get past the useless sack of shit can we play a kid? At least we'd have an excuse for poor l1 standard goalkeeping.

Match Updates: 23rd, 24th & 25th

We'll win today

Woken up with a feeling.......

Sakho is going to have Aguero in his pocket. Benteke will give this keeper a problem on crosses.

Strangely calm

I'm not quite sure what's come over me, I was panic stricken a few weeks ago. But since Roy arrived I seem to have accepted things, it will be what it will be and I think we will come out fighting. The press are gunning for us; to be expected and I like that, it's reassuring, because we've always proved them wrong. Now's the time to show what our great club is truly about isn't it? Win lose draw, unwanted records, bring it all because we are Palace and we will come my through this together and stronger.

I'm going to take my lad to his first game this year. I started supporting palace back in the early 90s and my first memories of this fantastic club are the 9-0 and the cup final.

Come on Roy and COYP. I love you.

6) What's the most you've paid for

a drink...

As requested in an earlier thread.

One drink - a pint or a double rum or some such (us Anglo-Chileans need a cuadruple to hit that particular spot). You can add a comment about expensive rounds if you wish.

Probably around a fiver for me on the pint and a tenner for double in some swanky soho place. A good while back. About 20 each for me and 'my guest' in a titty bar on a stag do here in Chile. Only done one of those nights here - thank feck.

lightening the mood a bit

One with the potential for a bit of a story. Whether it be late night home from London Town or a rip off somewhere or the usual nonsense from Heathrow.

From reading the BBS I gather that Black Cabs are a lot more scandelous than once they were.

Back in about 2002, I suppose about 35 notes from the centre of town to Whitehorse Lane. And I squeeked back then...

Parking etiquette

Trying to find a parking spot near Purley Oaks station at around 9:30am on Tuesday I was confronted with several home made parking restrictions outside people's homes.

Some made do with a knackered old traffic cone, there were a couple of wheelie bins and a few old crates.

What does the BBS do in these circumstances?

Move said items on to the pavement and park up regardless or drive on and park further away from the station?

Itunes rentals - price hike?!?

Always used to quite like renting films on iTunes... but they've just hiked their prices up to ridiculous levels haven't they? 4K movies available but most common option now is HD for £5.49... used to pay £3.49 typically for SD option... seems crazy pricing now to rent...

Make photos smaller before printing them ?

Ok so the wife is 50 years old soon and i have decided to do her a photo album of all the years gone by. The family are providing me with loads of pictures but as you can imagine they are of various sizes and the photo album only holds 6 x 4 pictures

i will scan the pictures from printer to pc

Whats the best way to shrink these down before ordering them online without losing quality ?

CPFC Equality Survey

I guess most of us have had this appear in the email.

Other than there being a little bit of bollox on it - like supporting 'black history' week or somesuch; I couldn't get it to complete - it suggests that I didn't answer question 5 when I clearly selected British White and as proud as punch about it.

Gypsy Curse

I have occasionally heard people talk of an old gypsy curse being placed on the Palace. Does anyone know the history behind this?

I'm genuinely curious because it is so typically Palace and would certainly explain much of what has gone on recently, not that I believe in this nonsense, nonetheless I have lots of white heather and clothes pegs if anyone wants some.

creating an online test

I want to create an online multiple choice test that is both timed and doesn't allow candidates to cut and paste (the test will be done remotely). I also need to collate the results. And, finally, I want something that is free to use. Does anyone have any suggestions of a programme or an app I can use?

Palace Injury Table

The latest Palace Injury Table makes for better reading with many players now back in contention to return to action.

Surely having up to 7 players out injured has been the main reason for Palace's poor start to the season and with those players coming back Palace will be a different proposition for opponents.

We will do very well to get any points from our next 3 games but after that our season can begin in earnest with a much stronger team.

a football ticket.

Hot on the heels this one - and one we can all relate to.

I'm not talking about accommodation, train journey, flights. Just the football ticket.

I have two - both from agencies - and my memory is hazy.

I paid about 80 notes for a Real Madrid/Lazio Champions League QF ticket about 18 years back.

And at least 160 quid (maybe more) for an England vs France ticket in the Euros in Portugal.

3) What is the most you have paid for...

a bottle of wine....

This is a two-tiered option, split between how much you have paid in a restaurant and how much you have paid for one at home.

Not for nothing etc. I think the most in a rstaurant was about 35 a bottle for Cloudy Bay back in the day. Take home - at the most about 12 quid - usually nothing more than a fiver these days.

Where is Timbo?

It's just occurred to me that we're missing TIMBO, one of our regular posters and I'm wondering if he's alright. Doesn't he live in the path of the hurricanes that have ravaged the Caribbean and Americas? Anyone know?

Match Ticket Information Tottenham away (WEMBLEY) Sun 5 Nov 12 noon HOME END TICKETS

The Tottenham away game (at WEMBLEY Stadium) on Sunday 5th November (12 noon) is not yet on sale to Palace fans, and ticketing details have not yet been announced.

However, it is expected the allocation will be circa 3,000 tickets.

There may be low interest in this game from Palace fans, due to the poxy kick off time, and that it is also on tv.

OR

loads of Palace fans might want to go as it is Palace at Wembley and an easy to get to away game.

IF you are interested, and don't think you would qualify for an away ticket in the official Palace section, then HOME sections tickets have gone on completely general sale today.

This is the link : To view the link you have to Register or Login

Palace fans will be in the bottom tier, blocks 113-116, so blocks 519/520 would be in the top tier directly above the Palace section, and there is currently loads and loads of tickets available

Corporate tickets for the game can be accessed from the following link

ALL TICKETS sold via these links are supposedly for Home (or neutral) fans only - in theory you could be ejected if you openly support Palace (unless hundreds of fellow Palace fans around you in the same block do the same!)

Before people start to moan, yes I know it's not a 'proper' game at Wembley and 'just a league game' or 'just Spurs away', but some people may want to know how to get a ticket in any case! Just trying to be helpful!

Would you take relegation if it came with winning the League Cup?

I would.
Obviously, would love to stay in the premier, but loved the way that clubs like Portsmouth and Wigan grabbed a nice piece of silverware on their way out the trap-door. No one will ever take that away from them.

Sakho for captain

mardi 19 septembre 2017

I saw a lot tonight that makes me think sakho should take the armband off puncheon.

1) he is a definite starter every week when fit.
2) he organises the defence. Tonight he was pointing and telling players around him what to do. When he did have the ball he actually didn't give it away unlike puncheon who waves his arms around and then screws it up.
3) he seems to bring the best out of the players around him starting with the other centre back and the defence as a whole along with the keeper.
4) he has a positive friendship with benteke. Would sakho captain bring the best out of him.

All of this on his first appearance back since the spurs game. I really think he is captain material.

Suggested Team and Formation For: Man City (away)

Speroni

Fosu-Mensah
Schlupp
Sakho
Tomkins

Milivojevic
Riedewald
Loftus-Cheek

Townsend
Benteke
Sako

Subs: Hennessey, Ward, Dann, Puncheon, Cabaye, Van Aanholt, Kaikai

First Choice keeper

Since there has been no poll since Steve left.

Who should be first choice Goalkeeper from now until we sign a new keeper?

This isn't about who is right for the future, so no moo option, it's just about who play until we sign someone else.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Huddersfield (cup)

Saw a bit of Periscope/YouTube. Did Souare play left back when he came on or did PVA stay there? Looked like a training match today. Or even a pre-season friendly but I'll take that. Assume Sakho came off after 70 mins so he is ok for Man City?

Back to Basics: Throw Ins

I cant imagine I am the only one who has become beyond infuriated by our abysmal ball retention from throw ins? (yes things are desperate!)

We generally are static and the thrower waits for the players to move however the thrower is in control! They can make space with the throw!

Our lack of height in central midfield highlighted this even more, causing Benteke to be dragged across the pitch only for the flick on to land at Southamptons CBs and away they go.

Watching Jimmy Bullard, yes, Jimmy Bullards Sunday League Hacks on SoccerAM, even he highlighted how poor throw ins within the English game are. We could do worse than show the players the video.

Watch us over the next few weeks (it will distract you from the rest of the problems if nothing else!) but will also show why we struggle to keep the ball so long.

Better be careful with the Sakho chant!

Kick it out have accused Manchester United fans of singing a "racist" chant aimed at Lukaku, because it refers to him having a large... well, you get the idea!

Apparently, as it is a stereotype it makes it racist

I thought racism was supposed to be offensive? I'm sure Lukaku is pissed off that people are suggesting he has a large *ahem* package.

Rumour: Mattia Perin (Goalkeeper)

This one seemed to slip under the radar but someone mentioned on a thread a week or two back that we had a bid of £18m rejected for Genoa Goalkeeper Mattia Perin in the Transfer window. I must admit I didn't hear anything about it but did find one article about it after reading that on here.

Excellent goalkeeper, 24 years old and captain of Genoa. Been linked to the likes of Inter, Manchester United and Liverpool, and he agreed a deal to sign for AC Milan if they ended up selling Donnarumma in the Summer but obviously he stayed so they cancelled the deal.

As I say he is a great keeper, capped at International level. The only down side is he has down both of his cruciate ligaments in the last two seasons whixh could be a bit of an issue.

This is the only article I can find but as I say someone did post on here we had bid for a young Italian keeper so it does match up.

Looking for some help guys...when I try and split a cell in a table into 2, it deletes the contents of the cells either side of it and I am unable to click on them and edit them to re-write the contents. First game at Atlético de Madrid's new stadium, the Metropolitano, on Saturday. My son's been a season ticket holder at Atleti for a few years, and I've finally got one myself. yeah, I know, but what can you do? I can't make it to Selhurst Park every week.
It's set on the outskirts of the city, out toward the airport - the old stadium was just a walk for us, though when it went up, in the 60s, it was pretty much city limits, itself. Still, we got there in half an hour, door to door, on the metro, and we live right in the centre. And when I say it's on the outskirts when you walk out of the tube station, on your left side it's a forest of those sand-brown Madrid tower blocks, and to your right are kilometres of nothing, all the way to the mountains. The road accesses are unfinished and all the conveniences of the old stadium are, conspicuously, missing. All those hundreds of family run bars are going to have it rough without Atleti being there. There's a big cement space, in its place, with those mobile food and drink stands you see at rock festivals - the club wants people to go there and hang out and spend hours there before and after games. I think it's a stretch. It'll be interesting, too, to see what happens this week with the Chelsea game - most people end work here around eight o'clock and it is hard to see how they will get there by quarter to nine.

A Simple thing to Fix

Sort out the throw-ins. We lose possession nearly every time. Lack of movement, throwing down the line. Watch other teams they throw the back to players in space retaining possession. It dose not seem to matter who the manager is we do the same thing, what's the problem ?

2) What's the most you've paid in for

Cavaet for one or two people. So, not booking a restaurant for a private party.

Probably, no more than about 100 quid for me.

Crystal Ball Huddersfield Carabao Cup

Because this is a cup game that can go into extra time and penalties, the traditional prediction is:
Attendance as usual
Score and scorers before penalty shoot out
Whether the game will be decided in normal time, extra time or by penalties (and if the latter, who wins).

Therefore,
1-0 Normal time

Let's get ready to rumble

Sadly I live in an area of Essex dominated by West Ham, due to fiancé e.t.c

Anyway in the street on sat one of them goes 5 games no goals no points that's palace down laughing.

I just thought are we f&@&&@ , we'll prove you and the smug pundits like shearer and redknapp wrong.

We're palace, let these plastics see our spirit. Ok Parish and board f@@@@@@ appointment of fdb . We are a striker short , I'd rather have Kevin Miller in goal than Hennessy too. I wanted Aki RIhilahti not hodgson but he's here and I actually think he will be sound.

Can't change what's been and gone , can stand together , this is what we're all about . We've overcome much worse than this.

Let's get ready to rumble and f@@@@@ make some noise cos every little thing is gonna be alright.....

Hodgson out!

He's had his chance, 90 plus minutes - how many more chances does Woy need?

Poyet is available.

Freedman v Morrison

I think this will be a closer match up than Murray v Armstrong

Freedman scored the more spectacular goals but Clint earned his rightful place in Palace folklore too. This is based on football only and anyone holding a grudge against Freedman should consider it on this basis.

Glenn Murray v Chris Armstrong

Random but at the peak of their powers, who's the better player?

Fan Pictures and Videos from: when we score a goal

this long awaited goal is going to be the most celebrated since wembley Puncheon.

getting the thread started early.

unbelievable scenes incoming

did not see full match over all how was palaces defendse like

i think start with orgaising defense and the attack look after its self

Open letter to Sako

Dear Bakary,

When we signed you, I was quietly optimistic about you. I had seen what you had done at Wolves and the goals you had scored. You were quick, strong and powerful. Great shot. I have to admit I wasn't sure if you could make the step up, and we of course had Wilf and Bolasie so thought you'd be up against it to get in the team.

First game against Villa, you scored and had 3/4 great shots and I thought wow, what a great player we've signed on a free. Then a week later another goal at Chelsea. Incredible. What a signing.

2 years on and I just want you to know youre a ****. For a professional athlete to be in your condition is a disgrace. To sit on your fat arse, contributing **** all to our cause for 2 entire years, stealing £70k a week from my club is an outrage. You're a fraud. Sure, there are players like Mutch who are just as shit and overpaid as you. But you actually have (had) talent. Just zero application.

Get of social media and get in the gym you utter con artist ****.

No magic wand

Did anyone else find Roy's comments strange? No inspiration, saying we could be in an even worse situation in three matches time? This is hardly a talk that is gonna inspire confidence and raise morale!

5 games, 5 defeats. Can we now start dropping some of the first XI regulars?

Genuine question, because if not now then when? I'm not even going to mention the names of people who should be dropped. (I'm not even going to mention Joel Ward, Jason Puncheon and James McArthur as players who should be dropped.) I merely would like to know, is it going to be the same faces week after week, defeat after defeat?

Heard a Rumour

That Harry Redknapp is on his way to Palace if Roy doesn't deliver the goods over the next few games. Any truth in it?

To put things into context

I just looked up our first five league results under Sam Allarydyce …

Watford 1 Palace 1
Arsenal 2 Palace 0
Palace 1 Swansea 2
West Ham 3 Palace 0
Palace 0 Everton 1

Total 1 point from 5 games

In that run, I remember a distinct feeling that we should bring back Pardew. Allardyce's reign is now viewed as a success. But it was the opposite in those early games.

Actual problems that show how meaningless today was

So I got home tonight, like every other Palace fan, pissed off.

My 2yo grandson was not well and had a temperature. Within 15 minutes he was whimpering and wanting to lie down. He got hot really quick and I had just said to my daughter he is really hot when he had a fit and his eyes rolled back. He was frothing at the mouth and then passed out.

Lots of screaming and running around by my wife and daughter. I got my daughter to ring 999 and to ask for an ambulance. Then my grandson started to convulse.

I had him in the recovery position and tilted his head back to clear his airway and patted his back. They told us to lay him on a bed in recovery and monitor him until the ambulance arrived. He was completely unconscious by then. They were really quick, here in 15 minutes.

They gave him oxygen, checked a few things and rushed him to hospital. He was seen really quickly and given some injections.

I'm pleased to say that he has recovered and is now as happy as he usually is.

Brings it home how meaningless losing a footy match really is!!

Open Message to CPFC Board

Today is a new low and unwanted top flight record. No fight, no togetherness, no spirit, no idea and no shape.

You have overpaid for players not fit to wear the shirt. Our fans, again, still sang throughout despite the poor performance. Our ground and academy still need massive upgrading and investment yet we have spent oodles of cash on....on what?

Only just over half of our squad is worth keeping.

The rest need selling (but no likely buyers in Jan - overpaid and poor resale value).

Sell

Mutch
CYL
Puncheon (sad)
Sako
Williams (sad)
Delaney (sad)
Ward (sad)
Kelly (sad)

Bring in 2 strikers and 1 GK (better than Hennessey) and give a some of our U23 a chance (Flanagan, Dreher, Lokilo, Lumeka, Wan Bissaka).

Please share this with Mr Hodgson and his team.

As a long term ST holder, I have been watching our team for longer I suspect, as you have.

If it's obvious to me ( and most of our fans ) why not you?

Thank you for reading this!

Stop blaming the many managers and chairman it's the players players players

The one positive out of this disaster of a season (isn't it embarrassing!) is that we as fans are finally beginning to understand the root cause of the issue, the players ! If Conte, Pep or Ferguson was managing this bunch of misfits they would be getting exactly the same results, we have too many sub standard players in our first eleven.
Hennessy- worse keeper in the league by a long way - embarrassing
Ward - best days behind him, does nothing positive in a game, a mistake waiting to happen
Dann - what a fall from grace, almost unbelievable should be nowhere near the match day squad when Sakho is fit
Puncheon - wow what has happened to him !? Awful not worthy and hasn't been for two seasons
Mcarthur - just not good enough, predictable, slow and doesn't change games

With Lee & Kelly is it any wonder we are 5 games in pointless and goalless.

Roy remove these frauds from 1st team action, if you want something that us fans would respond too and ultimately thank you for it would be to shake this team up, they have stopped delivering and they need to go....... as a season ticket holder slapping to Selhurst from deep in Surrey game in game out to watch these no hopers underperform I've gone from supportive, to frustrated, to annoyed and now I'm just bored !! Shake it up Roy if we are going down let's do so having tried something with players that at least have some pride for us fans !!!

Where did it all start to unravel?

Let's just think back a mere 20 months ago CYL scored a beauty up at Stoke that put us upto 5th in the Premier League!!!!

So what ONE single thing do people think started the demise?

My vote goes to buying Sako paying him £70k pissing off Bolasie that led to his departure, since that moment it has all gone tits up:veryangry

So what do people think?

Suggested Team and Formation For: Huddersfield

Strongest team, giving players returning from injury and youth a chance except Benteke who should probably still be on the bench.

Luka Cabaye RLC

TFM------------Dann---------------------------Sakho-------------PVA
-----------------------------Milivojevic----------------------------------
Townsend------Cabaye------------------------RLC--------------Zaha
-----------------------------Benteke------------------------------------

Get our best players out there. We desperately need a confidence boost. Actually pleased Roy will have the chance to see his players in action before the next 3 games. Play the first team. Right the wrongs of FdB. Change to 4-1-4-1. COYP.

Steven Reid New 1st Team Coach

Can't see anything official but apparently Steven Reid (ex Millwall) is our new first team coach

Birmingham sack Redknapp

Hahahahahahahhahaahahahaahahahaaaaa HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA.

Fraud found out again.

Don't panic it's up to Manchester for the next 2 weeks

Our record in Manchester since promotion in 2013 is as follows

Played 8
Won 0
Drew 0
Lost 8
Scored 0
Against 20

So things are looking up. Last 3 away games to City lost 3-0 then 4-0 then 5-0 so we all know how this goes.

33 games left: 12 wins, 2 draws, 19 defeats...

...would give us 38 points and a decent chance of survival. That's very achievable IMO. Just amazing to think we could lose 24 games in total out of 38 and still survive!

With our best X1 on the pitch (and that means no Ward or Puncheon), we could easily go on a run. I for one am not giving up yet.

Club identity and DNA

Is it a load of bollocks or is there really more to it?

Listening to John Salako on talk sport earlier and I had to agree with what he said. For those who never heard it he said how we've gone away from the Palace identity with a group of players who lack leadership. He said during his time here when things were going bad you'd have Jedinak or Delaney in your face telling you so.

Do you go by what people associate with as the Palace identity? A nasty place to go to with a solid and organised collective unit with raw pace and directness out wide.

We're consistently conflicting our style of play from to another which surely can't be helpful to the players. Today I saw a side who were still stuck in a more safe possession orientated mindset instead of having that more aggressive and penetrative mindset.

Does it add up to the fact as we started to go away from that identity and DNA things started to turn downhill for us?

Why is Luka still on the bench!?

he is our best midfielder by mile. Last season we were crying out of for a holding midfielder. We have a great one now play him.:wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

We are this years hapless team

It gives me no pleasure to say this but you can see us as this years Sunderland, and Aston Villa, so obviously heading out of the division even at this stage.

We are worse off now than when we first came up, a few seemingly talented players but having completely lost the togetherness and fight. We now also have a huge wage bill....which could sink us again.

Now it's probably not the boards fault that Allardyce choose to step down at the end of last season, which has royally eff'd us up, and to be fair it seems we did recognise that the seasons of counter-attacking hoofing relying on a couple of talent players was not sustainable, having run things close for the first two seasons, but we have mucked up two summer transfer window, leaving us short of defenders last year and attackers this.

We have tried to replace Hennessey twice as well but this year we failed to land a new goalkeeper despite there being (apparently) seven options put forward.

We all knew that Ward was probably life expired as a right back, but we haven't got a back up. We do seem to have three left backs who can't seem to defend properly for 90mins game after game, Schlupp is the best of them but today he seemed to be so close to his own CB's, that Tadic was being picked out time and time again from long cross-field balls...I thought we weren't playing 3 at the back.

We perhaps have a decent midfield although that hasn't come across at home other than perhaps the second half against Swansea, alright perhaps we have been affected by most of our players not being fit.

However the failure to provide any sort of viable alternative striker to Benteke was absolutely crazy, we've signed our own death warrant. I would be very dissappointed if I found out that the board shrinked back from buying anyone because of their apparent issues with FdB. Perversely we've spent £32m on two CB's who have played one game between them...arguably our defence is not the problem in that we have lost three games by just a single goal, one by two stupid goals, and one because we were crap all over the place. So I would suggest we have spent the money in the wrong area.

I do wonder that if we had actually provided Pardew with the missing players at the start of last season we might have been so much better off now. Having been saved then shafted by BFS I did think the appointment of FdB was a good long term move, but which ever side of that argument you're own its clear that RH is hampered by the same issues as FdB plus he has lost all of the pre-season.

I couldn't get to the match in time today but got to a TV, and really the only positive thing to see was Lukas make a few decent passes (something that our DNA doesn't seem to encourage much)

In the end having pulled off four miracles in successive seasons, the constant changing of managerial staff, lack of adequate scouting, failures in various transfer markets and having found no alternative to a playing style that puts us at a disadvantage at home, we are going to be finally found out.

Sometimes when we have got relegated, we've gone down 'badly' and this year has all the makings of that...we'll know for sure if Brighton beat us at home

Dann up top

Anybody else fed up with this?

Two games in a week where we dont use all our subs but have to move Dann up front because we dont have a second senior striker.

It really is a shambles and totally SP's fault I'm afraid...

The Booing Of Hodgson A New Low?

Is that the first time in Palace history a new Palace manager has been booed in his first game for a tactical/necessary substitution?

I remember Francis getting a few groans as he walked out for the first time, but this was different.

Pretty sad to hear to be honest, especially as RLC clearly had to go off.

No goals

I think they need our help in directing them towards the goal.

Perhaps we can plan something like this at huddersfield or man city (away)

How will we accommodate Sakho?

TFM is excellent in the middle. So much pace. Looks like a good balance with Dann. But I assume that we will have to break up the partnership to accommodate Sakho. My fear is that this will end up making us weaker through the middle because of the lack of pace.

Incredible really that we spent £26m on a player we don't really need when the gk, right back and striker positions are in desperate need of cover / replacement.

Absolute shambles. The worst thing is we weren't even that bad which is most worrying

No chance of a point in the next three games.

1) What's the most you've paid for...

vendredi 15 septembre 2017

A new series of general nosyness.

..... a night's holiday accommodation.

A few ground rules here. It's a single nightly rate I'm looking for and it has to come out of your pocket. Not company paid for, not airmiles bonus (that's a freebie for me).

If you're talking about a special weekend away or honeymoon etc. calculate how much it worked out per night. Can be anything; resort, spa, hotel, country house, cabin - with all the facilities - but only the accommodation costs, not flights etc..

Most I've ever paid is not an awful lot - about 175 quid, and that was just the one night.

Who else is sick of relegation threads?

Can we close the last one and at least give it a couple of months before the next one?

Brighton Away

When are we expecting the Brighton tickets to go on sale? I have 4000+ points so should be fine eligibility wise but I'm on holiday in the States from November 1st so I'm worried I may miss out given the high demand for tickets to this game!

FDB/ Parish/ transfers

Apologies for bringing this up again, but recently started my blog up again, and wrote a couple of posts on the recent shenanigans.

Have recently got my blog up and running again, written 2 articles.

First is some thoughts on why it was probably the right decision to get rid of de Boer, even though the performances were better than 0 points and 0 goals; plus my view on how Parish and co can avoid this mess in future.

Second is some thoughts on the transfer window (while FDB was still in charge so a bit dated now!)

Basically I'm looking for a laptop that'll run football manager and Minecraft comfortably.

So at least an i5 processor. I'm not sure what kind of graphic card I'd need so if anyone has anyone suggestions do let me know. If anyone has some info that could help then it's appreciated.

Probably no more than £400 for a budget. Cheers.

Recommendations to sit

jeudi 14 septembre 2017

Hi,

Pretty much, my boyfriend is absolutely obsessed with Palace but never gets to see them these days. So for his 21st birthday, one of the things I'll be doing is getting tickets to see a game (I know a contact). I'm more accustomed to Craven Cottage than Selhurst so I'm wondering; where is the best place to sit? Any birthday recommendations for anything else Palace-related would also be appreciated!

Thanks :)

Is this correct !? "The Bundesliga estimated around 20,000 fans had travelled to the capital to support their team." They've only been allocated 2,900 tickets at the match. It's apparently their first European Tournament match in 25 years but it sounds crazy.

Are they going to let them all in? Sounds like an interesting evening awaits which makes a change at Arsenal.

Are our fixtures kickoffs etc. for November now confirmed?

Just thinking about organising some travel but can't remember where we are with possible changes.

Does anyone know if the November kick off days/times are now fixed?

Thanks in advance

Rumour: £40m January War Chest for Hodgson.

Patrick Cryne: Terminally ill Barnsley owner 'on borrowed time'

Amidst the doom and gloom of our current P4/L4, a little perspective perhaps.

Don't know if he's a liked or disliked Chairman generally, but can only wish him and Barnsley well.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Terminally ill Barnsley owner Patrick Cryne has written a poignant letter to the club's fans.

Cryne, who has cancer, wrote a piece for the club's programme for the EFL Cup second-round tie against Derby, which the Reds won 3-2.

The 66-year-old has been in charge at Oakwell since 2004.

In the article, Cryne revealed that he is "living on borrowed time" and thanked fans for their "kindness down the years".

Cryne's letter in full

"I am living on borrowed time. I live in pain, but living is better than the alternative. Cancer is insidious, cruel and rapacious and I implore everyone to have regular checks to stop it gaining hold.

"Recent months have brought into focus the things that are important to me. I have spent a lot of my life pursuing the ultimately pointless when there were better things to do. My family have always been important to me but I should have spent more time telling them so.

"I do now and it creates joyfulness in our relationships. Of course, my football club has been important too and I am lucky that my family have shared my love of Barnsley FC.

"For much of the time since I became the club's buyer of last resort, I allowed others to run the club, fearing that I did not know enough to win the respect and supporter of the 'football people'. It is ironic therefore that we enjoyed one of our most successful periods when I did take up the mantle ending in two successful visits to Wembley.

"Maybe, one day before too long I will tell the secrets of how we did it. Certainly, the whole club working as one was instrumental. I don't know if we will ever repeat the sense of togetherness of that season, which extended also to the fans, their tolerance and incredible support.

"There are many things I wanted to achieve before my custodianship of our fabulous team ended at the hand of the Grim Reaper. Of course, I wanted to see us get back to the Premier League and make some enhancements to the iconic West Stand. On a personal level, I wanted to bring back together all the 1912 FA Cup final medals, but I only managed to retrieve five.

"Most people realise I was a reluctant custodian but what has made it bearable against the occasional cruelty of the internet world is the kindness shown to me by so many fans on a personal basis.

"People are not shy in coming forward and telling me they appreciate my efforts, even if I have fallen short of their aspirations. I receive many letters and cards from fans who share with me their memories and best wishes. I am grateful to them all.

"Regarding this season, I think we will get stronger as it goes on and our team gels, not unlike the double Wembley season. I do not expect to live to see the ultimate outcome, but I travel in hope.

"I wish you all a good football season and thank you for your kindness down the years."
