Middle Class Indian Communication

jeudi 28 septembre 2017

My firm does a lot of work with India, and I love the hyper correct English they use. When I ask them for something they always respond with:

"I will do the needful"

This week an Indian colleague was in London and scheduled a meeting with me. He then sent me an email saying his itinerary had changed and could he "prepone" our meeting. Apparently this means to "bring it forward" and is the opposite of postpone. Obvious really.

Never heard it before. But it is beautiful.
