Sadly the club has been informed by his son that Len Saward passed away on 7th March aged 89. Len was raised in Croydon and joined Palace from Beddington in March 1949 and it seems was with the club until the summer of 1951. He then played for Cambridge United, Newport County and Brentford.
Usually found in a forward position for the Reserves the majority of his nine first team appearances were at right-half. His debut was at Torquay on 19th April 1949 and his final appearance away at Plymouth on 31st March 1951 - his only goal earned a point in a 1-1 draw at Reading on 24th March 1951.
Some Palace fans may remember his younger brother Pat who played for Millwall and Aston Villa and was an Eire international.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time for them.
