Extractor Fan Advice

Help please BBS!

The extractor fan in my bathroom has tripped out a few times in the last week. It was tripping constantly bu then was working again.

I've taken it down and could see the problem was water on the outside of the duct running into the electrical connector and causing the trip.

Whoever installed it did a right shoddy job as the duct to the roof is 125mm and the fitting on the extractor is 100mm. They just put a small length of 100mm flexi duct into the 125mm and taped the joint.

The water, from the inside of the 125mm duct, was building up in the taped joint and then running down the outside of the 100mm duct and into the extractor unit.

My question is, is water inside the duct to be expected, ie a build up of condensation? It is extracting moist air after all. Or could there be a problem with water getting into the duct via the outlet on the roof?
