Suggestion: Florin Andone (Romanian striker, 23, from Córdoba) [and Fidel?]

lundi 9 mai 2016

Florin Andone is 23, Romanian international with Spanish nationality (centre forward), playing as number 10 for Spanish second division (Liga Adelante, second tier) team Córdoba CF, who are currently eighth, though there's still five weeks to go in that division and with Córdoba just one point away from promotion playoff their immediate goal is to secure that playoff place and return to La Liga, where there were a couple of seasons ago.

Andone is a prolific goalscorer. This season at Córdoba he's netted 18 goals in 32 games so far, only missing out on three of Córdoba's matches.

The previous season he was promoted from Córdoba "B" in Spanish Tercera (fourth tier), managing 6 goals from 22 games with the main Córdoba in just the second half of that season.

The season before he was playing for Atlético Baleares in Spain's Segunda B (third tier), where he scored 12 goals in 34 matches, not as impressive but he was only 20 and still developing as a player.

He never played for Villarreal proper, who had been farming him out on loan to all the above teams, until (foolishly, I think) releasing him on a free to Córdoba in December 2014.

Now, how much will he cost? Well, he signed a contract in January 2016, tying him to Córdoba until 2018. His release clause is €10m (which is very high for Spanish second division, considering Córdoba initially got him on a free). The clause will double to €20m only if Córdoba get promotion.

€20m is far too much of course. €10m is worth a punt. So how likely is it that Córdoba will be promoted? Well, assuming they got into positions 3rd-6th, they would likely be fighting for that one playoff promotion place with La Liga stalwarts such as Zaragoza, Gimnástic (Nàstic), Osasuna, Alavés, Elche, Oviedo... who will all fancy themselves as favourites to win any potential playoff should they not make automatic promotion by ending top two.

So, my suggestion is that, if Córdoba don't make top 6 (last week of their season is 5 June), or if they do but don't win the playoff semifinal (second leg 12 June) or final (second leg 19 June), Palace should consider making an offer at 00.01 on 1 July when the international transfer window opens.

If Córdoba do get promoted, though, forget it.

Here's the obligatory YouTube compilation I found. If he's wearing shirt number 10 that's from (the first half of) this season, if it's shirt number 28 that's from the second half of last season. If wearing a yellow shirt with number 9 that's for the Romanian national selection. This video appears to be uploaded in December 2015, and he's scored a whole heap of goals in 2016

As I said, the above summary is just from January 2015 to December 2015. Since then, he's been pretty consistently good. This is a summary of one of the games of the season, a 4-4 draw away from home to Nàstic. Córdoba are in their black away kit. Fidel scores the first goal (a penalty), and then Andone scores the remaining three Córdoba goals.

Lovely goals. Andone's second from such a tight angle, and his third (and Córdoba's final, just before the home side equalised from the spot) was a beautiful header laid on his head by Fidel again.

Fidel is another pretty amazing player, he's a 26-year old Spanish (left)winger, with top division experience with Elche last season. He's scored 10 goals this season with Córdoba, as well as seven assists, but that's not really a position we need to fill or even cover for, with Sako, Bolasie, even Souaré, filling that position. Whereas we do need a number 10 like Andone.

Andone and Fidel play together so well, though. If we were to lose Bolasie in the summer (and let's face it, if he goes to Leicester or Inter could we really blame him, especially if we get a tidy sum?) then perhaps a double swoop on both Córdoba players could be made. Though Córdoba fans would hate our guts forever... :hi:

Hope you found this useful. I watch Spanish football a lot; as well as being a season-ticket holder with Palace, I run the Valencia CF supporters club here in the UK and try to make a few games at Valencia each season. This year I've only seen them at home v Monaco, Bilbao and Celta, and away v Ghent, and sorted tickets out for loads of our members.

I hope Valencia and Palace never ever meet in a knock-out stage of European competition ever!
