Low Carbon Selhurst

mardi 10 mai 2016

I know there are threads regarding the stadium redevelopment already, but I want to ask CPFC2010 about this specifically in relation to climate change and the club's carbon footprint going forward.

Not wanting to be an alarmist, but I posted a link to this article on the forums recently -

The quote that stands out for me from this is -

"We are in a kind of climate emergency now," Professor Rahmstorf said, noting that global carbon dioxide levels last year rose by a record rate of more than 3 parts per million. "Governments have promised to act and they need to do better than what they promised in Paris" at the global climate summit last December, he said.

Given that the projections by the World Bank, PWC, International Energy Agency etc are all agreed that we are in real danger of heading into a future where civilisation as we know it ceases to exist (presumably including CPFC, the Premier League and all those other good things), surely it is important that we start planning for a low-carbon future now, if only out of good old-fashioned self-interest.

Making such a commitment would definitely be in tune with the club's community ethos and it is ideally placed to make a bold statement with the high media profile it enjoys.

Perhaps you could give some comment about how much consideration has been given to minimising the ground's carbon footprint and whether you could incorporate some of the exciting, new low-carbon technologies in its design. There are already some precedents for this -

If Selhurst Park could be added to this wiki list and it would be another reason to be Palace and Proud.
