Happy New Year!

Old signed shirt

My brother in law was given a signed Palace shirt but has no idea who it's signed by. I've attached a pic- looks like its 98-99 away but any idea who any of the signatures might be?

Best Gigs of 2015

I was going to add this to albums but thought it'd be interesting to see how others rated bands they saw live this year though a not too busy one for me. Listing them has made me realise that i've not really seen many new bands (to me) which i plan to do next year starting with Wolf Alice.

Starting with best

New Order
War on Drugs
Mogwai
IAMX
Mew
Faithless
Underworld
Leftfield (would've been near the top but for the OTT bass)
Metric

Looks pretty horrendous, fingers crossed everyone gets out safely.

Goalkeeper from Hearts mid-90s

Bit random but can anyone on here remember the name of the reserve 'keeper we signed from Hearts in summer of '94 I think after winning title? Or maybe we were linked and didn't sign him.

First name was Craig or Stuart I think..Thanks !!

Crystal ball v Chelsea (h) sunday 13.30

I think we're going to need the Selhurst atmosphere cranked up to the rafters for this one, obviously missing three key players but hopefully that will be enough to drive the team home

Palace 2-0 Chelsea

Chamakh 38, Delaney 74

Att. 25,143

Pre Chelsea: Press Conference

- team news - much as it was against Swansea - no-one coming back
- on losing Cabaye - go into the game with a number of players - going to have to lean on our fighting qualities - wanna hold on to our fifth place
- unrealistic to win with the bodies we have out - they look more in control and did so against Man Utd - Chelsea are favourites for the game
- on Patrick Bamford - made a slight error after the game and was a bit emotional - he has addressed that - he has had every chance here - he has learned from the experience - this learning curve for him was a learning curve but nothing to suggest he wont make the step up
- he didnt get game times cos we kept winning with the balance of the side
- no regrets about the whole episode - i like him and he is a prospect 0- his game time was disappointing for him -I get that - now he needs to find game time elsewhere
- he has nice attributes as a person and would be great to see him succeed
- on transfers - we have made phone calls this week - need to do business to keep us moving along - we have had an unbelievable year and dont wanna rest on our laurels
- looking at my injury list would like a a striker
- on year in charge - results have gone very well - have bonded well with the chairman - we have new investment at the club and a fan base that is second to none - long may that continue
- we are under a little pressure in terms of offensive players - if we could get someone in for the fa cup that would be great
- on chelsea - there has been a kind of ok - lets get back to being a good side - the foundation of chelsea looks more settled
- on pressure on players - chelsea have experienced that and it takes getting used to but they have great professional players - they know they let jose down
- chelsea not in a relegation battle - they are too good to go down

Discussion: FFP Restrictions

Couldn't see a thread on this in here or in GPD. It seems likely that our main budget restriction will not be available funds but breaching the FFP cap. Does anyone actually know or can make an educated guess how much we can spend before breaching it (obviously not including player sales)?

Palace to finish above Leicester - do you make this bet?

Simple enough.

It's New Year's Eve so the natural thing to do here in Hull is to argue (friendlyish) with a bloke in Leeds who happens to be a Leicester fan, to while away the last few hours of the year.

Leicester are clearly on the slide (?) and Palace clearly on the up (?) so Palace will finish higher than Leicester.

I can see where this is going with the guy no doubt saying 'put your money where your mouth is,' which I'll probably do.

The question is, would you make this bet?

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after

Suggestion: Stephan El Shaarawy

He is currently at Monaco. If he plays one more game they have to pay AC 14 million or something which they can't afford so he is on the bench until he moves.

This means we can get him on a loan deal. He was rated really highly at one point but kind of lost his way. Maybe find it with us. If not then just a loan deal so no big loss.

I hate New Year's Eve

Am I the only one who can't stand this event?Feels like I'm the insane one as nobody else seems to share this opinion. I can't think of a more frustrating night out.Everywhere is overpriced, overcrowded and almost impossible to get anywhere via any mode of transport

Might have an early night then go out in the morning when 90% of the population are asleep/hungover.

'Silent bomber' couple jailed for London terror plot

To view the link you have to Register or Login

How dumb are these people ? I mean when you read the details about how they were caught then it proves they were beyond stupid.

Please do not think I am against the sentences they have received. It seems clear to me that if you go to all the trouble of acquiring the necessary chemicals and even carry out test explosions, then you have to be deemed serious in your intent and thus deserve locking up for the terms handed down but I almost want to scream at them for being so utterly moronic.

I mean, FFS, if you are plotting to be a terrorist do you really called yourself 'The Silent Bomber' and then ask on Twitter about what you should be targeting along with using profile pictures of Jihadi John ?

These people are so dumb that you almost, but not quite, actually pity them.

Happy Birthday to our glorious leader, hope you're having a great day.

Rumour: Italian bid for Yannick

Several websites reporting that a 27 million euro bid has been submitted for Yannick, Inter and Roma apparently both interested. Hopefully just speculation but wouldn't be surprising.

Seasons Greetings etc

I dont usually start threads here but one thing really has affected me over this holiday break where we make new years resolutions and wish peace and good will to all men etc, but a work colleague I who I used to work with when I started in the particular business I work in over 20 years and who I still see on a regular basis and who I would describe as a good decent man, he kind of took me under his wing and really helped me make my way all those years ago, he was a hard, firm but fair man, I found out a couple of days ago his youngest daughter was murdered on Christmas eve, she was 23, a teacher, I remember her when she was a toddler, I feel an immense feeling of emptiness, sadness and when things maybe aren't going well for one reason or another just think the trauma that this good family are going through at this particular time, what an evil way to end a young woman's life who like me all those years back was just starting to make her way in life, unbelievable.

Dwight Gayle's Return?

mardi 29 décembre 2015

When will Dwight be back?

I hope he can get a run of games with Wickham out. A real opportunity for him if be can get healthy.

And it sure seems like a lot of guys miss months with hamstring injuries. Is football that tough on hamstrings. it must be, but in American sport guys rarely miss 4 weeks with a muscle injury. Half the Palace attacking squad is often out with muscle issues.

DIY Advice required (painting preparation)

We need some info/advice for an ongoing problem we have in our hallway. There are a few patches on the walls where the paintwork keeps flaking away. They are in various places, upstairs and down, on internal and external walls. The last time I decorated I rubbed these patches back to the plaster but we still have the same problem. Can anyone recommend a pre treatment/undercoat product we can use before re-painting.

TIA

Rumour: Charlie Taylor, LB-Leeds

From Dominic Fifield/Stuart James's Bamford article in today's Guardian:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

"However, Bamford’s departure may now force Palace into the market for a forward in the January window. They have joined Leicester in monitoring the availability of Khouma Babacar at Fiorentina, retain an interest in Charlie Austin at Queens Park Rangers but would most likely be priced out of a move for Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi. Palace are also interested in the young Leeds left-back, Charlie Taylor, who is entering the last 18 months of his contract at Elland Road."

Suggestion: Ashley Williams (again)

Was impressed with him yesterday. Pardew talking up his performance after the game. Wouldn't be surprised to see us go for him again in the summer.

Suggestion: Morgan Sanson

Young attacking midfield that features in a few players to watch lists would be an upgrade on Punch who I believe has been our weakest link this season

Plays for Montpellier and France u21

Would have Cabaye to help him settle

Can imagine they would want a few quid but when you're 5th in the prem and want to maintain we can't be tight!

Player of the (half) season

So we have reached the half way point, who do people think has been the player of the (half) season so far? For me Delaney is that player, keeps proving people wrong...but would like to know others thoughts!

Treatment of Zaha ...

I know Wilf was again the target for the opposition, whose only gameplan was to kick lumps out of him, especially with Bolasie out, but I'm starting to have some sympathy with him when he suddenly looks to react.

I know Jedi and Damo normally run in to calm him down so he doesn't get worked up, but when is enough enough?

Why should he keep just taking it, when he is cynically being hacked down all the time?

I'm not suggesting he go out and thump the guy, but I think he should be allowed to retaliate and let the opposition know that he's not going to get away with it later in the game.

Pele's career was ended by cynical challenges that went unpunished and I fear Wilf's career could be seriously hampered sooner or later by one foul too many.

Thoughts?

Chelsea forward option

Clearly we are struggling to find a decent forward at the moment with so many injuries and so few decent options.

I would suggest that unless we buy someone real quick that we play 4-2-4-0 and get the midfield to run at them.

They will not like it if we run at them and with players overlapping at the same time we could easily get in behind them.

It can't be any worse than the last two games!

Please feel free to tell me why I should, perhaps, leave or stay.

Also tell me why you might, or might not, miss me.

Or, best of all, the reasons you are not bothered, one way or the other.

However your complete disinterest would be smashing as well.

Thank you in advance and, if I do decide to bugger off for a bit, promise me and cross your hearts, hope to die, that you will vote for us to leave the EU.

Love y'all.

I dont give a shit what you say to me, or about me.

Ticket machines in Holmesdale Road

Just wondering if today, being Boxing Day carried over bank holiday, whether we have to pay for parking in Holmesdale Road? The Croydon Council site says all bank holidays bar Xmas Day, Boxing Day and one or two others, but as Boxing day was Saturday do they consider today to be that bank holiday? I don't trust my luck not paying only to find I've got a ticket.

Leap Year Coming 2016

I worry about leap years. Do those of us on an annual salary effectively work a day for free?

Reassure me that we don't.

Lets all Guffaw at the Gunners ( Arsenal's delusional grandeur )

samedi 26 décembre 2015

Arsenal just got slaughtered by an off form team that couldn't buy a win for love nor money recently.

Wenger is blaming the referee as usual.

Arsenal - finished 4th in the League table in 6 the recent 9 seasons....and yet they still bang on about being a world class club with elite aspirations. And so, when ManUre, Chelscum and Liverpool all play below par...do Arsenal glide effortlessly into the Prem topspot ? Nope, we leave that honour to some small club nobody knows.

Silverware ? note for gunner fans, the FA cup has been won in recent years by Portsmouth, Wigan etc with the runners up including Hull, Villa and Milwall...ie a mickey mouse competition only slightly better than the Johnson Paints trophy.

Arsenal : silent stadium , empty trophy cabinet ( since the airing of the final episode of 'Friends' ) , not really a big club, not a small club, ....as far as Shakesperean silverware chase goes..."I do follow here in the chase not like a hound that hunts, but one that fills up the cry"

Leaving BBS

Alright, the majority wins. I don't know why I couldn't get along with most of you. It's not as if I came here looking for trouble. I never got a fair shake from most of you, but to those that were willing to level with me, many thanks. Well, there's not much else to say other than, I'm sorry things didn't go better between the BBS lot and me.

Happy holidays.

COYP.

Suggestion: Cover Winger?

in Jan as a squad player? worth a look?

Joint 2nd best defence

After Tottenham, and now Arsenal have let in 4.:lux:

Suggested Team and Formation For: Swansea

Same team that finished today imo, Jedinak looked good when he came on, gave license for McArthur and Cabaye to push further forward.

Would like us to play 442 at home as that has bought us success but cant see any options for it.

Football Podcast - Please take a listen

I know this is slightly tragic but my friend and I are constantly debating football and are disappointed with the mainstream coverage of football in terms of punditry, commentary and the papers. We feel so much bias occurs because of reputations.

So, today we recorded out first podcast about football (mainly Prem) and plan on adding more when possible.

We discuss Leicester, lazy management in terms of youth development and defences, Ozil and more.

Feel free to take a listen and get in touch about topics to include (PM me).

Player Ratings And Reviews: Bournemouth 0-0 Crystal Palace

Oh FFS, bring back glaziers fan!

Poll to follow.

Wayne Hennessy is Underrated

I feel very confident with him in goal, and Im not ashamed to say more than with Speroni since we have been in the top flight. He is growing into a solid number one and I think will be for a few years to come, his current stats dont lie:

This season:
League games 12, Goals Conceded 9, Clean Sheets 5.

He has only let in more than one goal in a game once against West Ham.

I know he conceded 5 against Man City in the cup but he was left exposed where we went all guns blazing.

HENNO!

mods, i messed up again. Was looking at Leicester's Loss and forgot about other results. Palace started the day 2nd in the form table, we got a point, leicester got nothing.

still got a bloody good point on the road today for us.

Upgrading Android version on phone

I've got a Galaxy S2 with Ice Cream Sandwich on it (4.1.2) and want to bring it up to Lollipop (5.x) in order that I can install some apps I want, because they're complaining it's not supported.
There are youtube vids on this but I wondered if these were the best way to go??

Looking at this:

and this:

Any recommendations on how to back up stuff? Is this an SD card job?

.....next challenge will be a Galaxy Ace 2 from Gingerbread to Lollipop - it'll probably catch fire!

Murray is a rival player now

I don't understand what I keep reading, I even heard it on the FYP podcast, that if we are 4 nil up we would hope Glenn Murray scores.

I dont get this at all, sure I would clap his name and have respect for him during the match, but I would never be happy someone scoring against Palace, it just shows me how wimpy sentimental some people are and how they view things rather than the big picture. I hope Glenn Murray misses all his chances today.

Live Com and Updates: AFC Bournemouth V Crystal Palace

vendredi 25 décembre 2015

Hope you all had a good Christmas Day. Off to bed now and dream about what team we will be able to put out later. Whoever pulls on the shirt for Palace will put in a 100% shift and we will be ok.

Match Updates: Boxing Day weekend extravaganza a-go-go

Saturday, Monday, everyone playing everyone. COYP

Nicky Sansom/Gary Grabban

I got the 1980 Crystal Palace Annual for Christmas, there's a team photo in it entitled ' New Generation At Palace' which is presumably is the youth team of that year and includes the two above names. Anyone know if these guys are related to Kenny Sansom and Lewis Grabban?

Your Palace presents

Chuffed that amongst the socks and chocolates this year was the CPFC training rain jacket, perfect for my footy training :p

I got Golf boy's lad a Palace home shirt with Zaha 11 and he's looking forward to sporting it at the Watford game "where we go top" :D

Christmas isn't complete without something Palace in it eh... :p

Suggested Team and Formation For: Palace Nativity Scene

Who would you have from the current squad playing the following roles?:

Mary
Joseph
Baby Jesus
Archangel Gabriel
Innkeeper
3 Wise Men
Shepherds
Sheep
Donkey
King Herod

Discuss.

Club Shop Exchange Policy?

Bought my Dad a palace jumper for Christmas but it's a size too small.

Can't find any info on the exchange policy. Does anybody know what it is?

Would it be worth my while turning up to the shop before the Swansea game, jumper in hand? Or would I need to package and post it back? Or am I stuck with it?

Please advise!

P.S. Merry Christmas!

The Santa conspiracy

It is one of our societies last redeeming features: the way all adults - without exception - indulge in the whole Santa exists game, and do it so convincingly from a kids perspective. (I do hope that all reading this have come to that realisation already...apologies to Gor Blimey and Mat ov for ruining your Christmas).

But it is a pretty amazing thing isn't it? There's been no meeting or letter spelling out the rules. It's not as if the Government have made it law or that you'll get an on the spot fine if you dare spill the beans to the nearest kid; and yet we all partake in this conspiracy. Can't think of anything else in life where there is an unsaid consensus among all adults. I'd dare say even a psychotic mass murderer wouldn't dream of spilling the beans to an unsuspecting child.

I know there is a train of thought among some that this white lie is the start of a lifetime of mistrust once the penny drops, but I actually think as white lies go, it's pretty great.

As an aside: a little Christmas eve story from the additional needs school I work at: every year the primary end of the school have Santa arrive after their Christmas lunch and hand each and every child a present. This year we were halfway through when one of the secondary boys crashed through the doors and started pointing and screaming at Santa: 'YOU'RE A FAKE! YOU'RE A FAKE!' and was unceremoniously bundled back out of the door by a couple of staff members. :D

Any other stories around this subject. Have any of you accidentally spilled the beans to your kids or little sibling?

Seasons greetings.

Happy Christmas to one and all, whatever club you support.
Hope you all have a good one. :p
Wigman.

Merry Christmas 2015

It's three minutes after midnight here and my Santa duties are done. Merry Christmas all.

He knows when you've been good or bad...

He's made his list. He's checked it twice. Have you been a good boy/girl this year and so are on the nice list? Or are you on 2015s naughty list (perhaps, to take an entirely fictional example, for getting your cock out at a works Christmas party this getting yourself banned from the local for a year and only a lump of coal to look forward to from Santa).

Feel free to suggest other BBSers for addition to either list, though you can only vote for yourself...

Switching iPad to a new iTunes library

I want to connect my iPad to a new laptop (both old and new devices are MacBooks). I understand that when I do so, my iPad will be 'wiped' of media and I'll then be able to add media from my new laptop.

My question is, specifically which media gets wiped? iTunes media, or all media?

Will I lose photos, cached videos on other apps, 'home videos', cached Spotify data etc?

Thanks

DVLA serious question

Probably gonna get loads of abuse for this query,...but here goes

Sold my old heap of a car 2 weeks ago to 2 Romanian chaps who were going to take the car 'home'. I couldn't find the blue 'registered keeper' document, but the guys paid cash and said it didn't matter as they were 'exporting' the car on the 14 December.

I filled in the blue 'notification of permanent export' slip and sent that to DVLA, but I don't know the Romanian guys names or addresses.

So, do I tell DVLA what I've done ?
Or do I keep sctumm ?

What are the pitfalls/benefits/liabilities of either action?

One of the Romanian guys was nearly 7 foot tall, and the other one was built like Giant Haystacks

Best Free email provider

So I need a new email provider. What do people recommend?
As a user I like lots of storage to keep useful old stuff in categories.

talktalk: Been using for years and like the layout, but in the past they deleted me without warning and I lost lots of stuff. Got compensation but I can't afford for it to happen again.

Gmail: switched to this and I like the link to calendar but it doesn't seem designed with the hoarder in mind - no ability to create sub-folders is a problem.

What others are out there that get thumbs up? Outlook? Microsoft? Yahoo?

Pardew v Pulis v Mourinho

Ok, this is just a bit of fun but could also potentially make an interesting snapshot of Palace/BBS history. Who would you prefer to have as the current Palace manager? (and imagine answering the same question this time last year!)

Power of attorney question

My mum's brother died intestate earlier this year in Ireland. A solicitor in Ireland who is administering the will has asked her to sign a power of attorney form in order to proceed. As far as I can see this would give the solicitor complete access to her financial accounts and records. Is power of attorney really necessary in this situation?

Crystal Ball. The mid-season comp to predict our final position

This is the traditional mid season prediction competition. Exactly as before. You simply need to predict our final position. You will get 5 points in the Crystal Ball Competition if you get it correct, or 2 points if you are 1 place out.

By all means give your opinions on the thread, But for your prediction to be counted, you must enter it in the poll which will then register it against your name

There is a deadline. Your prediction must be registered before the Chelsea match kicks off at 1:30 on 3rd January

If you want to recall what position you predicted in the pre-season competition, you will find it here. To view the link you have to Register or Login If names don't appear when you look at the poll, just click on any of the figures and they will all do so. No doubt we're going to be a lot more optimistic than we were back in August!

Managers and 'Losing the dressing Room'

Holloway told journalists ''i haven't lost the dressing room, its down the corridor and to the left'' or something similar.

Jose 'lost the dressing room' ie the support of his own players. This phenomenon seems to happen every five minutes at clubs like Real Madrid. Purple Nose Ferguson's adage was ''its my way or the highway'' and never lost the dressing room. What does it all mean ? how to prevent it ? Why does it happen ?

Identity Theft - Help !

One for anyone who is going through or has the same thing happening . I need some advice. Started 6 years ago a person who we know used my wifes maiden name and address to get some goods from a catalogue company. Some months latter we get a debt collection agency requesting payment, explained to them never had any goods. Found out that the goods were delivered to the person who used the name at her then address. Told the debt collection agency all of this . Never heard anything else for about a year new debt collection agency contact us go through the same thing. This happens for the next three years.
Yesterday we signed up for Experian I am fine, wife is not , it appears after we moved a debt collection agency solicitors Bryan Carters have a CCJ issued against her maiden name in 2014, through Northampton County Court. A call to court who tell us its against another catalogue company. We call said solicitors explain the situation give them the name and new address of the person involved. Lodge a complaint against the association of debt to Experian. Now waiting to here.
Is there anything else to do I have the fear that with the solicitors having the new address and a CCJ in the wifes maiden name, but wrong address the next thing will be a baliff turning up on the doorstep.

46 Years And Counting

46 years!
46 years and counting.

I'm a very young looking 51 year old. Immature for me age too.
Tall for me height though.
But young looking nonetheless.

46 years out of 51 eh?
I surely merit some kind of award.
Well I think so.
Suggestions?

Discussion: The 25 and fringe players - who needs to go and come in for January?

Looking at the current squad of 25 plus our fringe players who do we need to say goodbye to now, in six months time, and to get in? Dave just closed a bumped thread and the lead up to the transfer window is going to cause mayhem on here

GK: Hennessey no 1, McCarthy long term backup & Speroni short term as in final 6 months of contract (eventual new young keeper in summer)

RB: Ward no 1 /Kelly capable backup (in emergency Ward can cover LB)
CB: Delaney no 1 but probably 18 months then would be a great coach/ Hangeland capable backup but likely final six months?
CB: Dann no 1 /need one young CB for long term Delaney succession and back up as only really Brede at right level - sell Mariappa, if QPR interested, part of an Austin deal along with Campbell?
LB: Souaré no 1/ Need back up as cover very tight (Santon?) - Sell or give away Hunt and Fryers, neither of whom will ever make the team (how fast will Scales come along?)

CM: Cabaye no 1/ Jedinak capable backup for certain games - sell Johnny Williams who can’t get into NF team regularly (if money is right for Jedi to go we need more cover, otherwise great club captain)
CM: McArthur no 1/ Ledley capable backup

RW: Zaha no 1/ Lee Chung-yong capable backup
LW: Bolasie no 1 / Sako capable backup (also young players to come through)

ACM/hole: Puncheon or Chamakh as joint no 1 (last six months for Cham unless injuries clear and he gets another year?)/Mutch back up

CF: Wickham no 1 / Chamakh backup but preferably new player as injuries bound to happen (need to end the loan deal for Bamford and possibly loan somebody else, get Campbell off the books anyway we can to save 35K, sell or keep Gayle but we need a goal scorer as a loan or new buy)

Realistically, as we all agree, the Wickham alternative is required as well as a succession plan and cover at centre back, with left back cover required but not so urgent.

Gayle and Jedi could raise decent money but also offer us something (Gayle can be on the wing if Sako is injured) - others suggested to go will free up wages and are never going to be part of a top four team.

We can loan 2 if Bamford goes, but they need to be players with a view to 'try before you buy' rather than other peoples potential future players.

Graham Hunter interview with Super Al

dimanche 20 décembre 2015

A really interesting podcast interview between Graham Hunter and Alan Pardew that is just over an hour long. Perfect to stick on during your commute.

Interesting that he talks about the academy setup and how they know it isn't good enough at the moment infrastructure wise. Glad to hear that there are plans for it to be brought in line with the updated first team improvements in the coming years.
Quote:

In this one, Alan Pardew was brilliant on some very big moments in his career, the kind that can go either way and result in very different outcomes. Like, what if Steven Gerrard hadn't hit one of the all-time FA Cup final goals against Pardew's West Ham in 2006 (there's also great insight into how that goal happened)? Or how does the Newcastle United story pan out if Hatem Ben Arfa scores for 2-0 against Benfica in the Europa League quarter-final? There's also loads here about his origins in non-league, man-marking Gazza, the future for Crystal Palace and much more. Alan was a generous host at the Palace training ground, and gave us an open and insightful interview. I hope you like it.

'Scavenger Season' the Premier League Form Table

Scavengers on the take...........the form table...read it and weep you 'big club' financial liabilities.....this is the year of the 'scavenger season' ....the foxes, the eagles, the hornets....all known to take advantage of whatever easy pickings are available.

When a dopey slow easy whale goes by....we will have a pick or three. Foxes root in dustbins and are doing far better than many glorious but endangered species. Hornets feed off discarded mars bars...and grow fat. Eagles can get a bit of free carrion from a dead one like the Liver Birds....easy pickings. Even the magpies and the Canary's are pecking eyeballs from some complacent big fish.

2015/16 the best season in ages. Bournemouth in the top four ? surely they have an eagle hidden somewhere in there ?

the top four teams in Form Table are small clubs......Scavenger Season.

Fitbit or similar fitness wrist things

My missus goes jogging and dropped this one in as a Christmes present. It all seems a bit trendy and expensive for what it does and wondered if there are much better ones available? Normally with these things you are actually paying for the software service though, that whole health tracking malarkey.

Anyone use one of these things and can give some feedback??

Suggested Team and Formation For: Bournemouth

Wickham and Bolasie I think will miss this game, Wickham had what looked like a hamstring injury and Bolasie hobbled around last 5-10 minutes

So with that in mind

..........................Hennessey

Ward..........Dann.........Delaney............Soaure

..................Ledley.........Cabaye....................

Zaha...................Lee.....................Puncheon

...........................Chamakh

Mcarthur looked a bit flat and with 2 games in 3 days coming up I think we need to rotate the midfielders, Ledley to play in the away game and McArthur at home.

Lee and Puncheon interchanging.

Most away wins in a calendar year?

We've got 11 away wins this year, or 13 if you include Dover and Southampton in the FA Cup.

I am 54 now but when I was a teen, 16 the right of passage to getting driving on the road was owning a "sports" moped. It had to have pedals but it could easily reach 50 mph if you laid prone over the tank!!!! It was all about who could go fastest!

We spent every hour sticking sports exhausts on and deafening the local community.

The choice wasn't only down to the 4 Japanese manufacturers. There was the Yamaha FS1-E aka the fizzy, the Suzuki Ap50, Honda SS50, Kawasaki but I can't remember the model number? Was it the 105e. There was a great debate about which was best. Until someone nicknamed animal pitched up on his Puch GPS!!!

If you wanted to be a bit more exotic there was the Puch Grand Prix, or the Italian Gilera's or in my case the Malaguti.

After that was a step up to the world of 250's or 400's, in my case an RD 250 with a coffin tank, white with red stripes. Popping wheelies like a lunatic:D

This all went on in the downtown streets of Beckenham.

But 38 years on my two best mates from meeting in those days, are still my best mates after all that time. We all have families, only one still rides a bike, so it isn't only bikes that have kept us together.

There must be other fizzy owners or riders of other makes of mopeds still about there who remember those days?

Stoke v Palace – photos & videos

A few of my photos from Stoke…

Injuries following Stoke game

Bit concerned with injuries following today's game

Wickham and by some accounts Bolasie to add to Cabaye in the injury list...

Does anyone have any insight on how long they will each be out for? In the congested Xmas period it won't be ideal if they are out for long...

Atmosphere at Stoke

I thought their fans were supposed to be one of the most vocal in the league? The only noise they made all day was the consistent moaning over literally everything. I guess their manager has rubbed off on them all. Bunch of miserable bastards

Our support sounded loud all game long and deserved to celebrate like maniacs at the end

Well done to our away support:p

Contract law advice

Hi fountain of knowledgeeeeees,
I was hoping to get advice from someone that understands contract law. It's all rather annoying - I run a media company and outsource to suppliers for work we can't do in house, in this case, search engine optimization and google adwords mgt. The problem I've run into is that I've emailed him saying that from January we're going to be bringing things in house but we'll honour the remaining contracts (there are four clients with a finish date of between Jan and June 2016.) I hadn't heard from him but then one of our clients forwarded an email from him to them saying that his company had decided not to carry on with working with us and that although I'm good at client relations he feels he hasn't been able to do a good a job but if he'd had access to them directly it would have been a lot better and would they meet him for a coffee in January.
Very underhand and trying to paint a picture that we're the rubbish ones. Luckily our clients are very loyal.

He classes us a reseller and when we started to work together he emailed over his client confidentiality contract. This has never been signed by either of us but it states that he can't approach our clients for a minimum of 6 months after a contract ends. It also says that as we're 'white labelling' or reselling his product (his product isn't tangible) that he will never let our clients know that he is a separate company.
So he's caught himself out there. On the back of this I want to cancel all outstanding work with immediate effect as I just don't trust him, don't want him to have access to our clients adwords accounts and am nervous he'll try and muddy our reputation.
Another point to add is that 9 months after sending the original client confidentiality contract he, out of the blue, sent an email saying 'oh I haven't sent you our t's and c's.' He had signed them but I never did and refused to as they were written with strict cancellation policy which I wouldn't enforce our clients on so wasn't comfortable signing them. We've never worked to them and in the terms it states these t's and c's are only valid if both parties sign it.
I'd like to send him a cease and desist (i think) but am nervous it could get expensive as he'll counter with 'I haven't broken our agreement' and it could all get messy.

I'll gladly pay for advice just unsure of best options and the bbs is always helpful in life predicaments!

Players disinterested and underperforming on the pitch

we all remember roberto mancini telling carlos Tevez to get warmed up and Tevez replying '£v%$£off'' or however you say that in argentine.

we remember Sol Campbell walking out during an Arsenal game.

and so the latest saga is the rumour about the Chelsea squad deciding not to bother to earn the megabucks the payroll staff pay them every week. Just casually jogging up and down and almost leaning against the goalposts for a fag break.

Forget about drunken parties, training-ground bustups, driving like a maniac, sex scandals and other footballers nonsense.....

why and how can the best paid employees on the planet underperform on the job ? The question is not about the likes of Joey barton throwing a wobbler and going nuts, the question is about the 'couldnt be bothered'' attitude.

any thoughts ?

Some great people on here

Just want to say thanks for a message I have received.... Fantastic to know there are some really genuine - and highly qualified - people on here, and Palace supporters into the bargain.

Much appreciated the advice.

What does the BBS make of this?

Seen a lot of hubbub on social media about this and it all seems utterly bizarre. I think it too easy to claim 'money buys freedom' here as it was a jury decision and an acquittal was reached in 30 minutes. I, therefore, struggle to believe the acquittal was made that quickly, so resoundingly by a jury on the basis of such an incredulous 'excuse'.

Surely there must have been a procedural error or significant flaws in the prosecutions version of events to deem it rape 'beyond reasonable doubt'.

Bizarre one though!

Why no more 'A Palace minute' ?

Well I dare say the joys of a 7 month old daughter is taking up a considerable amount of his time, but BUBBS11 has also been using his creative talents for a very good cause.

If you can, either to help the school he works in do the redevelopment work they desperately need to do or just simply as a means to say thank you to him for the pleasure he has given us all for his 'A Palace minute' series please donate if you can.

This is something that is very close to his heart, and will make him, the School, the parents and most importantly the kids very happy if your contribution, however small helps them make their target. (Also may shame the bastard into turning his talents back to doing another 'A Palace minute' :))

Has been getting local attention up here;

Suggestion: Moussa Dembele

would love to see Dembele for us.

Quick powerful and can play/competition for a struggling Puncheon, when he was playing for Fulham he was a beast and still only about 28

Reckon spuds would do a deal as well, as long as Bolasie is not involved!

Suggested Team and Formation For: Stoke City

........................Hennessey
Ward. .........Dann. ........Delaney. .........Souare

Zaha. .......McArthur. .....Cabaye. .......Puncheon

....................Wickham. .....Bolasie

4-4-2 same team and formation that was good enough to beat both Southampton and Newcastle or do we bring Ledley/ Jedi into midfield to combat Stokes front 3 players ?

Boilers

mercredi 16 décembre 2015

So recently brought a new house.

The heating/hot water for the house is powered by a pretty ancient and inefficient back boiler. It was always the plan to replace in a few years once we could afford. However it was smelling a fuming/gasey so partner called the smell gas number. Bloke came said it was dangerous and turned off all gas supply to the house and said we need to get an engineer out to sort. He didnt say or really know what the problem was.

I know these things are pretty expensive to repair, and think British Gas charge £200 just for a couple of hours work, let alone difficult to find parts for back boilers.

Are we better off just getting a new combi boiler? If so any suggestions to which one?

Or could it just be small issue that could be sorted without breaking the bank?

Any general advice much appreciated.

Phase 1 Clinical Trial Cancer treatment - would you say yes or no?

Not the cheeriest of themes for the festive season but I do need to ask if anyone has had any experience of clinical research into new treatments for terminal illness?

My mum has stage 4 (terminal) cancer, as I have mentioned before. She has been asked to participate in a phase 1 research programme where she will be administered the new drug/treatment alongside chemo,

Most sites say some people will benefit with phase 1 treatments, thats the good news but many won't.

So... Worth the risk or best to avoid?

Thanks in advance for any help

Some points on this:

1. Jim White talks out of his arse.

2. How can our wage bill be higher than West Ham's

3. We actually play decent football, we're not a hoof ball side like the article suggests

Other than that, its fab

Alternative Careers for Sepp Blatter

Lets face it, Sepp is a busted flush in the world of football. But seemingly the 79 year old is convinced that he still has much to offer the world and is still volunteering his services to the great and good.

so, in the spirit of Christmas, lets help him with some career advice. What jobs, and why ?

For openers :

The hand-car-wash just near the old goat-house pub, beside the bridge that goes over the railway north of Norwood Junction. They have a 'help wanted' sign and i think its perfect for Sepp. The job would include getting your hands dirty, cleaning up a mess and receiving payments in cash. With the added benefit of being able to hear the Selhurst roar on a match day in spite of Sepp being banned from all football related activities.

what others ?

Is it possible to fall in love with a friend, however long you've been friends?

Is it possible to fall in love with a friend, however long you've been friends?

Been friends with a girl, within a wider, stable friendship group, for 14 years now. Always loved her to bits, as a friend, and always got on very well together, but recently my feelings towards her seem to have changed. Not saying it is love, but I'm certainly feeling confused right now.

I went out with her friend, also part of the same friendship group, but that finished 11 years ago, and she is now engaged, so that's fairly irrelevant right?

It doesn't help that she's going abroad for three months (maybe more) with yet another member of the friendship group next week. That clearly heightens things, but I feel so sad that I won't see her for a while.

What do the BBS life/love gurus think?

Why is TOWIE so popular?

Now I must admit that I have never watched an episode, but have seen a good few clips. It's meant to be real but is clearly scripted, the acting is dire and the cast are hateful. What do people see in this crap?

Players and Social Media

mardi 15 décembre 2015

I am sure there has been a thread about this not too long ago, but I saw this in the Metro this morning, and I can't help thinking that players really need to start engaging their brains before they respond on things like Twitter etc. I am sure his parent club Cardiff will also be highly unimpressed by his actions.

European Dream Aways

Yes I know we'll lose several players to injury, yes I know we've still not got the requisite '40 points,' and yes I know our strikers haven't scored yet.....

....but, and a little bit of fun here (for what is the point of supporting a football team if one cannot dream?), where and against whom would your dream Palace away trips in Europe be?

Let's assume we finish 5th. Therefore stating BARCELONA BABY is not allowed; you need to be a little more cognitive than that. ;)

Personally, I'm voting for anywhere with cheap flights and a new passport stamp.

Third kit needed for Stoke match?

I was wondering if we'll use a third kit for the Stoke away match?

Last year, we were in the yellow kit; year before, the evil sash.

Now when Sunderland played us, they had to wear their green kit; so with Stoke at home, what shall we wear?

- Home kit - unlikely, with a red clash.

- Away kit - unlikely with a white clash.

Do we even have a third kit this year?!

What do you want for Christmas? What are you likely to get?

perhaps I'm just having a bad day?

Pards vs Twitter

Alan Pardew will be next to take on your Twitter questions!

In the past Yannick Bolasie, Marouane Chamakh and others have faced Twitter (all of which you can watch on YouTube), now it's the manager's turn.

If you want Super Al to answer your question, send it to @CPFC using the hashtag #PardsVsTwitter and it may get picked. It'll be filmed this week (and released over Christmas), so the sooner you send them in the better. :p

Booking help

Hi - I am looking to take my Dad (a lifelong palace fan) to a match for his 70th early next year; and I wonder if anyone would be so kind as to offer some advice on the best seats at the ground and when it's best to book them?

His Birthday actually falls on an away match (Arsenal) but I assume we are unlikely to get those, plus it may be nice to be at home as that's where he grew up, just down the road from Selhurst.

Thanks!

"That Bolasie is pretty good, do you think he should play for England?"

"No."

"Why not?"

"Because he was born in France and plays for Congo."

"Oh."

He predicted that in Feb 15, not hard. I'll be smug and claim I predicted the same in October 14, but tbh wasn't hard then either.

This season I predicted Villa, Bournemouth and Norwich in October, but I think Bournemouth are going to pull out, they are playing through their injury issues better than I thought they would.

The 29-year-old former Bayern Munich centre back is out of contract in the summer and Palace are ready to strike a deal in January to seal his transfer.

Alan Pardew wants competition at centre back with the likes of 34-year-old Brede Hangeland heading towards the end of his career.

Niedermeier has vast experience and can add goals from set-pieces.

Palace, meanwhile, have agreed a deal for 18-year-old Tower Hamlets winger Randell Williams
