Windows 7 to windows 8.1

I am considering making this change on my 4 year old Acer PC. I think its a powerful enough pc but I wondered what other peoples experience was with a) the conversion process' anything I need to know?) and b whether they like 8.1 and was doing this worth it. For the record I have an IPad so I am not unfamiliar with apps and touchscreen
