Thinking about the Palace manager scenario. Would you take, or have you ever taken, a job when you knew you were the second choice?
I did a few years ago. Went for a job as a Communications Officer at a local authority. Got to second interview, but didnt get the job. Disappointed, but there you go
A few weeks later I got a call at work on a Friday afternoon the woman who was due to start in that role the following Monday had now turned it down. They wanted to offer me the job before re-advertising. I asked to think about it over the weekend they said fine.
I called them on Monday on accepted. All worked out fine and I never felt second best. Funnily enough, the woman originally offered the role turned it down after being offered a pay rise by existing employer which I later heard was rescinded and she slipped up by not getting in writing. Oh dear.
