All-out attack versus defensive pragmatism

samedi 30 août 2014

In one game against Newcastle we've already seen a hint of a difference between the Pulis/Millen defensive setup and Warnock's more attack minded play. At 2-1 up and even 2-2 I thought we'd hold the game and there was no chance of attacking substitutions.

However, Zaha and Murray coming on for Chamakh and Bolasie really show where Warnock's intentions lie. Previously at that stage of a game I'm sure we'd have been more likely to sacrifice the injured forwards for more defensive players.

It turned out alright in the end with that last gasp wonder goal from Wilf and the romantic in me loves that. But part of me would also have seen him stay on the bench and someone like Stuart O'Keefe helping to see out a 2-1 win or 2-2 draw.

Bearing in mind the season is still young, how should we best go about staying up. Defence at all costs or try to out score the opposition?
