Want Oalace to give the cup a good go this year, however with Olise pulling up in the last game, definitely rest him regardless of his status. Similarly with Eze coming back from his injury, but keep him on the bench in case we need him.
Keep the same back 5 so were remaining solid in defence, bring in Franca, Ahamada and Ozoh. Theress some youth and experience on the bench in case the game goes either way.
Jordan Ayew, an appreciation

Been much maligned on here for years but hes genuinely one of our most important players and he is definitely our most industrious player. Nobody in our side has his work rate and this season he has stepped it up with goal interactions in a side that hasnt done very much up front. Im really pleased for him to finally be getting the plaudits he deserves over the last season or two. He is a very important part of our team.
We are going to miss him in January, thankfully we dont have a month packed with games

Rules are as follows
1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.
2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)
3 In the second round the 3* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 7 or more, then a 4th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).
4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.
5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.
6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.
7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.
8 Singles and upwards accepted.
9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.
10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2
11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.
12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.
13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..
14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You cant shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.
15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher
16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)
17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

Crystal Palace Rugby League
On one of ITV's 'Big Match Revisited' shows from October 1980 Jim Rosenthal says something like this during the news slot:-
"And Rugby League's progression down south took another step with Crystal Palace confirming talks"
Search engines not coming up with anything - anyone got any recollections?

New boiler advice
Hi All,
Been quoted £2900 for a brand new boiler fitted. Does that sound reasonable. Boiler is a Worcester.

Little Hollie RIP 😢
Little Hollie sadly gained her Eagle Wings on Saturday 9th Dec.
For her mum Clare Davies to find her precious little girl had passed away, let alone just 2wks before Christmas, I’m sure was devastating.
I have personally known Hollie & her mum Clare for many years. We have travelled up together to football on many an occasion. They are both Palace mad, and many times it was Hollie that made her mum go & take her.
Hollie & Clare loved each other’s company dearly, Hollie was also such fun to be with.
Hollie has not only been taken from her heartbroken Mum & family, but also her baby sister, who she absolutely adored.
Hollie touched the lives of everyone that was lucky enough to meet her, and leaves a lot of heavy hearts.
I would like to ask as many of you as possible to share the link below, with all your families& friends & your social media.
I thank each and everyone of you, at this very difficult and sad time.

Press Conference Live: Chelsea
Roy Hodgson conducted his pre-Chelsea press conference immediately following his post-match commitments after the 1-1 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion last week.
Ahead of the Eagles' trip to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday (27th, 19:30 GMT kick-off), read on below to find out what the manager had to say about the game, early team news, and several key figures in his squad...
ON TEAM NEWS AHEAD OF CHELSEA
I dont know [at this stage].
"[Sam] Johnstone I'm sure won't be [available]. [Odsonne] Edouard would have to surprise me it doesn't look like thats the situation at the moment.
But to be fair, in those areas at the moment, we're doing well enough. The boys have come in and played in place of them and are doing well enough.
"I don't think there would be any reason for me to bemoan the fact they [Johnstone and Edouard] are not there, because if they were there, that might mean that [Dean] Henderson and [Jean-Philippe] Mateta didn't play. At the moment, those two fully deserve to play.
Having said that, I'd be very delighted to get them back the sooner the better. But I don't see that.
[Cheick] Doucouré, of course, absolutely not. There's no chance of getting [Rob] Holding back or [Jesurun] Rak-Sakyi back, but our squad is looking a little bit more like it should do now anyway, because [with] another three or four days of training Eberechi Eze will be closer, if you like, to his true form, and then by the time we play Brentford even more so.
ON THE THREAT POSED BY CHELSEA
When you look at their squad and their players, I think most teams will look at it and think this is going to be a very, very tough game because theyve got some very, very good players.
The thing about form is it could just be that some of the players are finding their feet at the club and playing as well as their reputations would suggest. Football, at any level, is not rocket science. If you are a very, very rich club and you have the ability to bring in players who actually cost a lot of money, that maybe other clubs can't afford, sooner or later there's a chance those players will start performing in the way that everyone expects them to perform.
That's basically what we will have to expect. I don't think we'll go to Chelsea with them being frightened out their wits with the team that we can come with to play against them, but I also believe that we'll go there, and we'll give them as good a game as we've given the last three teams we've played, all of which are teams who are European teams. One's a European champion, the other one's a European champion a year ago, and Brighton are playing in European football after a very good season.
There'll be other teams that we'll play in the league going forward that maybe don't have European ambitions and maybe haven't spent the sort of money that some of these other clubs have spent.
ON CHELSEAS OWN INJURY TROUBLES THIS SEASON
The big thing with injury lists is what you have behind it, how much you've been able to strengthen the squad so that [you know] who's going to go in in place of the player that has to come out.
But all managers, I'm sure, would like to field what they think is their best team, so when there are injuries, that is problematic for them. I have every sympathy with coaches in that area.
It's a part and parcel of the game and that's why of course the top teams, who are playing European football, need these very, very big squads. Sometimes you'll need players who would walk into many, many other teams on your bench because you play so many games.
ON MICHAEL OLISE
Obviously every club needs that [magic]. We've been blessed with Wilf [Zaha] through the years, but now we have Olise, and also we have Eberechi Eze. We have two players who can do that job and who get the crowd buzzing.
I think that the crowd were very good tonight [against Brighton]. They were very much behind the team. I think they'll recognise that there's some good moments ahead for this Football Club.
ON MARC GUÉHI, A FORMER CHELSEA PLAYER
He's a very, very good player. I dont how Chelsea would feel about seeing him play now and having let him go, youd have to ask them that question, but we like him very much. We think he's outstanding player.
"We believe that with guys like him and [Joachim] Andersen, and guys like Eze and Olise, and with people like Edouard and Mateta and what they're doing this year, there's enough threat in our team to get us where we would like to be at the end of the season.

iPhone owners- help please
Morning all!
I found an iPhone whilst walking the dog and would like to do my good deed of the day and reunite it to it's owner. It's Christmas after all :). The phone is locked and I have tried the Siri call mum trick. Unfortunately it has no SIM card. I have posted it on the local Facebook group. Is there anything else I can do? Can I somehow get it to connect to my WiFi etc? I have never owned an iPhone so there may be another trick I am not aware of.

FA and EFL cup replays to be scrapped
BBC sport reporting that FA cup and EFL cup replays could be scrapped for the 2024-25 season partly due to the scheduling of Premier league games. FA cup replays might be scrapped from the third round onwards as well as the two-legged EFL cup semi-finals. Scheduling of Premier league and the expansion of European games would leave only six midweeks free in the season.
Personally I would like to see games settled on penalties particularly if a lower league side has held on for a draw. Replays always favour the higher league sides. On the other hand lower league sides will lose potential revenue from a replay. Any other thoughts?

vendredi 22 décembre 2023
Wishing all my friends and enemigos a very happy festive season.
May your hearts and souls be as full as your stomachs and wine glasses.
And we need a bump of the Christmas Rows thread. The snideness of The Vicar's brother-in.law is the one single thing that the entire BBS can agree on.

Any bright ideas on how to get to Heathrow airport from New Cross on Christmas Day morning? Business trip so receipt needed. Added complication is trip could be cancelled with a days notice.

Crystal Ball: Mid-Season Prediction. What will be our final position?
This is the mid-season prediction of what will be our final position. If you get it spot on, you will get 5 points in the Crystal Ball competition. If you are one place out, in either direction, you will get 2 points.
Because it is a mid-season prediction, there is a mid-season deadline. You must have made your prediction before kick-off of our 20th game, at home to Brentford on 20th.
If you want to check what you went for in the same competition pre-season, you will find it here To view the link you have to Register or Login
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: If you want to make comments on this thread, that is welcomed. However, for your prediction to count towards the Crystal Ball you must actually cast your vote in the poll, because that is the means we use to check it at the end of the season. But by all means, post it in the thread too if you want

Fantastic (or otherwise!) Music Documentaries
I watched the History of Disco three-parter on the Beeb. ******* brilliant. Really got down to the roots of what disco was about, beyond the 'badge' - i.e. name given by the media, being a contraction of Discothequé!

Price looked decent last night.
I went to the opening night. My first time at the darts and what a great night. Really well organised, no queues for food or beer and a great atmosphere. Hoping Micheal Smith can retain the title.
I didn't realise Adrian lewis had packed it in. Really sorry to read about his struggles.

Club World Cup 2025
dimanche 17 décembre 2023
From DPA:
This is a nonsense isn't it? Teams that have actually won the square root of **** all in European competition qualifying for the "Club World Cup".
To be played over a few weeks in June/July?
When are players supposed to get a bit of rest and recuperation? Is this going to delay the start of the season?
Will there be renewed pressure to reduce the size of elite divisions in all the major leagues?
Can't wait for Porto v Al Ittihad on Amazon Prime
Quote:
Football governing body FIFA has confirmed eight European clubs that have already secured a spot for the 2025 Club World Cup, which will feature a new format. Chelsea, Real Madrid and Manchester City qualified as the latest Champions League winners, a fourth to be confirmed at the end of this season, FIFA said on Sunday. The other five clubs - Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, Benfica and Porto - secured a spot thanks to their coefficient raking of European ruling body UEFA. |

RIP Question of Sport
BBC announces the programme has ceased production. Since dropping the three much loved front three two years ago the audience has dropped to barely a million from the low of four million under Sue Barker. Who knew that this would happen? Anyone with half a brain. Question Time anyone?

MLS to introduce new anti-time wasting rules
To view the link you have to Register or Login
Quote:
The off-field treatment rule requires any player who remains down with a suspected injury for at least 15 seconds to be removed from the field by a medical crew and receive treatment on the sideline for a minimum of two minutes. Exceptions to the two-minute requirement will be made when the injuries come from fouls that earn yellow or red cards. Over a season and a half of trials in MLS Next Pro -- the two-year-old developmental league -- the league reported that stoppages dropped from an average of six per match to 1.22. The timed substitution rule will require players to exit the playing field within 10 seconds when being removed from the game. If they fail to leave the field in the allotted time, their replacement will have to wait an additional minute and enter at the next stoppage. (The rule does not apply for goalkeepers or injury subs.) During the 2023 MLS Next Pro season, only 10 substitutions received the one-minute penalty out of more than 3,200 substitutions, according to the league. |
Junior Christmas party
Wondering if anyone on here has taken their kids to the Junior Christmas party in previous years and any opinions on if its worth it etc?
Arteta Unpunished!
So Arteta's rant at the Newcastle game has gone.... UNPUNISHED.
This is the reason...
"In the written reasons for the charge not being proven, it was revealed Arteta claimed that: "The word 'disgrace'...'has a very similar spelling and pronunciation to the Spanish 'desgracia'.
"The Spanish word has connotations of misfortune, tragedy or bad luck rather than the connotations of the English equivalent which suggest contempt, dishonour or disrespect.
"While the English meaning may lead to interpretations of abuse or insult, this was not the intended meaning."
What kind of BS is this? Are they all gullible as f*ck?
How did that actual BS excuse pass?!

Seriously, this world has gone insane.Bowing down to ridiculous “tiktok influencer “morons and the like. Rewarding obesity with free extra seats when they buy 1 seat while charging others for having a bag 500g over the limit.
They’re even kicking customers who have paid for their tickets off the plane to accommodate these fat bastards
I’m sure the rest of the flying public will love it when these airlines jack up their prices because they can only fit 5 passengers onboard

Apple & Prime (etc ) TV Native v Sky
We are about to replace one of our TVs, and wanted opinions on the quality of streaming native to the TV vs using the Apps on Sky Q? We have average broadband (but will be upgrading to fibre to doorstep soon) and streaming apps through the Sky box is dire at high usage times in our village at weekends (especially on Apple, less so on Prime).
Would we likely get a better performance using the TV native app rather than going
Apple to Wi fi to Sky Q main, Sky wi fi to second Q box?
We are looking at either a Sony or Samsung TV.

Discussion: Broja (Jan 2024)
mardi 12 décembre 2023
Gallagher may be out of reach, but wouldn’t be surprised if his teammate Armando Broja becomes available instead for same financial reasons. Actually, I’ve seen rumours that he is available. Nkunku is due back and they want a new striker and to continue with Jackson as a long term project. And so this one could be realistic. Would people take him for £35m? I’d be happy with Ekitike as well but if we can’t get that over the line then I would love Broja. Good age, runs the channels, mobile, can hold it up, has PL experience and can score. Massive upgrade on Edouard imho. What are other people’s thoughts?

One of the entourage of John's that lead to the nicknames and stage names I believe. Long time mate and minder of John Lydon. He walked out on stage at Brixton with them for instance. Think he met John Lydon after Lydons stint on im a celebrity too. Always there. Or was. Terrible time for JR. Wife now his mate passed on.

Palace to be fined

Palace are now going to be fined fore receibing over 6 yelloew cards, which we can't appeal.
Apart from the ref himself who deserved a red card for being a biased C*NT, I think we should send a letter to Howard Webb and demand an explanation for Madley's "performance" and hopefully an apology.

Chelsea and Burnley Home tickets
Despite the website still saying that tickets for Chelsea and Burnley at home are on sale from today, December 11, the box office have confirmed that they "..will not be on sale this week."
This is due to the PL not having confirmed dates and KO times yet. Makes sense but frustrating that we can't seem to keep up with the internal admin.

Liverpool Away
Our game at Liverpool is on the Grand National weekend. It also falls on the weekend after the Europa League QF.
Obviously the game will move to Sunday if Liverpool win the L16 game in the Europa League, but does anyone know whether Liverpool and Everton games always move on Grand National weekend?
Just thinking about whether to get tickets for the racing - but obviously no good unless the game moves to Sunday.

Woe is me

Ignoring the issues of squad and management and ownership for a few seconds, I wonder if another reason for restlessness within the fanbase is down to disillusionment with the league, and football in general?
As the title suggests, it probably comes across as feeling sorry for oneself, but it can be difficult not to when every week you come away from a game and a match week feeling like the cards are rigged. I'm sure every team feels unlucky, but I do think we get more than our fair share of ill fortune.
For right or wrong, we probably have the 'nicest team' and manager in the league in terms of not engaging in the dark arts/haranguing officials etc, but that doesn't ever play in our favour.
We (and other smaller teams, I concede) are 100% refereed differently to other teams. Many times you just have to imagine situations reversed: if Endo had made that tackle on Hughes in the build-up to a Liverpool penalty, would VAR have interfered? No chance. Would Alexander Arnold have received either of the yellows Ayew got yesterday? No chance. Would Eze have been awarded the penalty Son got today? No chance; he'd probably receive a caution for diving instead.
When referees are sent to the monitor, they basically always reverse the decision - referees have stuck with their original call on a tiny number of occasions - it's happened on less than 0.4% of occasions or something like that. Yet it's happened to us twice. Even punditry on decisions for or against us seems different that if it's Liverpool or Arsenal or whoever being discussed.
When Newcastle or Spurs have a few injuries at once, there's hours of discussion about it and sympathy about their plight. When we have an injury crisis - which relatively is more impactful as our squad is smaller and the players involved are seemingly always our best and most crucial - it's a footnote at best.
We seem to disproportionately face teams when they are in good form, rather than in a rut and/or affected by injuries - for instance Newcastle this week. We also always seem to play teams when they welcome back key players from injury - Allison yesterday, for instance, who won them the game.
Again, for right or wrong, we seem to be one of the only Premier League teams who try to keep within our financial means, but it doesn't benefit us, as everyone else seems to get away with pushing the boundaries (I even include Everton as the points deduction will be irrelevant this season, whereas last season it would have sent them down).
One of the contributing factors is that we're just not fashionable I guess, and I always feel like a lot of people look down their noses at us, and feel we don't truly belong here, as a traditional big club like Leeds or Sheffield Wednesday or whoever should have our place. Even in our most successful periods in the last decade, and/or when we've been an exciting team to watch, it's always felt like we're not spoken about on TV or radio or podcasts, and when we are talked about, it's rather brief and begrudging.
Perhaps I'm wrong, and I've got a complex, but it does feel like our face doesn't fit really.

How can I be sure my Season Ticket goes to Palace Fans?
Yesterday my parents couldnt go to the game so sold their season tickets for the game back to the club. However, these were subsequently snapped up by two plastic Liverpool fans one of whom was perfectly behaved all game and the other recorded it all from start to finish and appeared to celebrate when Liverpool scored their winner.
I think the way in which you can sell your season ticket on a game by game basis is a really good move from the club as it saves ST holders money whilst ensuring the ground is full.
However, I find it both puzzling and unfair that these tickets dont go directly to Palace fans but instead can be snapped up by anyone.
Surely any season tickets for games that are sold back to the club should automatically be offered to members who pay their subscription and support the right team?

Liverpool fans in Palace end
There was loads of Liverpool fans in Whitehorse Lane end yesterday celebrating the goals and videoing game yet the stewards did nothing. Was this the same in other ends? Is there anything club can do to stop this happening as seems to happen every time we play them?
Ray Wright RIP
I am really sad to let people know that Ray Wright the ex chairman of the Crystal Palace Supporters Trust died last Tuesday. He had been a fan of Palace since the 1960s and latterly had a ST in the Holmesdale and also regularly attended away matches. He joined the Trust in 2011 and was Chair when he had to resign in September 2022 due to a diagnosis of bowel cancer.
He was relentlessly pro Palace fans and it was mainly due to his efforts and professional approach that there were regular meetings with the Club to discuss and put forward fans concerns and issues.
Palace was in his blood and even after diagnosis he managed to return and attend more games and he would have been a familiar face to many. He will be much missed by all who know him.

Are we losing it 3-0?
samedi 9 décembre 2023
Not that it matters much given what went on later...
But we used four out of only three sub windows today and none of them were a concussion sub.
Surely this means the result will be changed to 3-0 for Liverpool?

Losing It
Wasn't sure where to post this but I think it relates to tickets as much as anything else.
There are a number of issues which are currently make me seriously question my loyalty to our club after 53 years of support.
1. I pay for a season ticket. If I can't make a game I have to offer it for resale. For the Bournemouth game my seat was empty in the LH because they couldn't sell tickets in the AW with reduced visibility and pretty much no amenities.
2. Kick off times are a right pain in the arse
3. Train strikes. This Sat trains aren't stopping at Selhurst to avoid overcrowding. What will happen at Norwood Junction then? Do the club care enough to talk to rail operators or to communicate with us?
4. The catering in the LH is awful.
5. I signed up as an academy member during Covid to help the club out. Where's all the promised benefits?
6. The refusal to give a 61 year old a plastic card s/t (that's me by the way)
7. The awful football
8. The crappy Roehampton University adverts on the tv screens that mean you can see bugger all on the actual screen
9. The truly awful app and website if you're trying to book tickets, find loyalty points, or in fact see anything useful.
10. The general sense that a club that we felt that we part owned, or at least belonged to, has now become a money grabbing behemoth that will discard us in an instant if it meant more short-term revenue
I know it's a personal and at times bizarre rant but all these things combined are making me question whether I really want to go through all this crap next season.
So I thought I'd see if there are any others who feel the same

Do we need a new club captain (Marc Guehi)?
All talk about the owners and Hodgson so far. What about the other leadership role, the skipper on the pitch? Surely the captain should be Guehi to freshen things up? I hope if a new manager comes in the first thing he does is give Guehi the armband.

Fantastic video just posted on the CPFC Youtube showing Chris Richards and some women's team members teaching our youth that being LGBTQ+ is A-OK. In the words of Richards in the video "If we start now and show that it's acceptable to be whoever you want to be...".
I'm fully supportive of indoct- brainwa- err, educating young minds on all the possibilities that a person can be and to be accepting of this. I'd like to reach out to the following marginalized groups to also contact CPFC so that they can be included in the next school tour:
- Brexit supporters
- Trump supporters
- Drag Queens
- Left-handed people
- Atheists
- Heavy body modifiers
- Morbidly obese and loving it
- Smokers
etc.
I want to ensure that we have all possible iterations of lifestyles implanted into our youth so that we can truly be an enlightened group once they reach the age where they can't so easily be manipulated.
(now that you've read that and are fully prepared to call me an -ism or -igot, explain to me why this is necessary to teach school children? Isn't "Accept everyone no matter who they are" enough? as we had in primary school)

The Origin of Crystal Palace FC Volume 8
lundi 4 décembre 2023
The new volume of Palace's history, The Origin of Crystal Palace FC, Volume 8, is now available in the club shop and on Ebay.
If your family are asking you what you would like for Christmas, this is a present which will assuredly keep you amused on Christmas day.
Volume 8 covers the history of Crystal Palace FC for the period 1920 to 1921, the excitement surrounding the club's first season in the Football League, and the chase for promotion to the Second Division.
As always, the book is ram-jam full of insight and previously unpublished revelations regarding the history of the club: drama, comedy, tragedy. There is never a dull moment.

Christmas Schmalz
As the world gets more cynical(or is it just me) it fees like the amount of reacle being pured by the tv, movies and advertising industry is getting ever more sickly.> I mean a whole sky channel devoted to Christmas movies. To this end there now seem to me a gazillion of these that seem to have only just ben created. Reunion romcoms, rediscoveries of self, Father Christmas's behind every door. So far as I can tell barely an original idea in sight. Nearly all from the US as well. Thats all bad enough but Sky promos about their movies for the festive period are driving me round the bend "is this just the best bit about.." No! Shut up about it will you. As to the advertisers if I ever hear about that bloody carrot again or Coca Cola telling us that Christmas is coming as if they ******* invented it. And Deceembers only just begun!
Serious question though. Are we all receptive to thing like this at the moment or are the media hopelessly out of touch

A league game half time 2 hour break!!
Probably not worth a thread. However something I've never seen or heard of before tonight.
Sydney fc are playing Perth Glory. At half time Sydney were 2-0 up. There was a massive cloud burst fir over 90 mins. They've come back on and resumed 2 hours after the first half.
Apparently it's happened here once before. The 2nd half resumed at 10.30pm after a kick off time of 7.45pm. Still a couple of thousand in the ground.
