Who's Testimonial?

mardi 28 février 2023

I see Palace played a game at Selhurst Park on November 26th 1969 verses an All Star XI.

Does anyone know who this was for if it was a testimonial?

Back in '69 I can't think of too many players that would warrant a testimonial. I can only think of maybe John Sewell.

My other thought is it was the official opening of the "New" Artur Wait Stand.

You BBS Fans Are A delightful Bunch...

....Nuffink close to real Palace fans though.

Most of you must be from Surrey, Kent or Margate.

C*nts.

Rules are as follows

1 Every player has 200 points to bet with in the first round.

2 Each separate bet made is 10 points meaning players have 20 bets during the first 20 days. Maximum bet on a single market is 10 points, same rule applies for identical multis (basically no duplicate bets though you can do a team A, team B double on one bet and then add team C for a treble in another bet)

3 In the second round the 4* finalists all start by carrying forward 25% of their score from the first round added to the 150 points that can bet used in the second round. The person who qualifies for the final with the most points also gets an additional 10pt bet. (*if the number of participants gets to 16 or more, then a 5th finalist place will be added and then one more for every 5 players on top of that).

4 Betting Masters, first group stages runs from 0000 on the first of the month (standard UK time) to 2359hrs on the 20th of the month. Then the top four* posters come together in a mini league from there on until the end of the month.
Final bet settlement must occur before 2359 on the last day of the month.

5 Naturally the winner is the person with the highest score at the end of the last day of the month.

6 Scoring consists of total winnings and is inclusive of 10 point stake i.e. someone bets on a 6/4 horse and it wins their score becomes 25 (15 points profits plus the 10 pt stake) There is no score for any bets not used. Losing bets are scored as zero, not -10.
Any bet from an exchange bookie will have a 4% commission (on the winnings), if nothing else is explicitly stated in the post.

7 Players must quote where they're getting their prices.

8 Singles and upwards accepted.

9 For boxed multis and bets such as Yankees, each separate bet within the bet counts as separate and will cost 10pts per bet. e.g. ten trebles from five selections will use up 100 points.

10. E/W bets are counted as two bets in the masters, which means 10 points x 2

11. For tracking purposes, players are requested to put the outcome of their bets on the post for all events other than European soccer/tennis.

12. Where possible players are requested to put down a running total of their bets in their posts, although I'll also try and produce rolling league tables where possible.

13. After a bet has been posted up, one is not allowed to edit it..

14. The bets must be possible to do in real life, meaning for example that if you got a multi, all the odds have to come from 1 bookmaker. You can’t shop around for the highest odds and put them together. "Special promotion" type bets are not allowed though BOG (Best Odds Guaranteed) are.

15. Bets must be placed at odds of 1/10 (or 1.1 in decimal) or higher

16. Any Draw No Bet bets where the result is a push will always have the bet settled as void, never 10pts. Any asian handicap bet where the result is a push (in full) will have the bet settled as void. Any asian handicap where half of the stake is returned will be marked down as 5pts with the remainder of the Asian handicap settled as a win or a loss (this is applicable for asian handicaps such as 2.25 or -2, -2.5 etc)

17. In the event that a player is not sure if their bet will finish in time, before midnight on the 20th or midnight for qualifying midnight on the final day of the month for the final, they can make a provisional bet or bets which then become actual bets only if their original selection(s) finishes at 12.01am or after.

annoying video loop...only watch a couple a couple of times

Prostate Cancer

Was diagnosed with it first week of Feb after a rise in my PSA levels, I'd had annual tests for the past 5 years following a change in peeing habits, prostate was enlarged and treated accordingly to help with the peeing, the levels prior to 2022 fell within acceptable levels and it's something that can increase with age as can the size of the prostate, I'm 63 now.

On holiday last September I had an increase in trips to the loo at night, returned home and arranged a test and the level was 4.9, the previous one was 3.8 and for those not already aware the trigger for further investigation is 4.
The DR didn't seem too concerned and referred me for an MRI at Worthing Hospital, 3 weeks later I chased this up with a different GP and he put me on the 2 week referral and within a week I had an MRI scan and 3 weeks later I had a letter saying that a biopsy was advised and arranged for early Jan, an unpleasant experience but I've had more painful trips to the dentist. Another agonising wait before the news that I had it but thankfully confined within the prostate and this gave me 3 options, prostate removal and 2 types of radiation treatment, if you choose the radiation treatment you then can't have the prostate removal, I chose removal using Robotic assisted radical prostatectomy that is performed at the Royal Surrey Guildford.

I was called for consultation on the 14th Feb and told I was suitable for the op, had pre op assessment on the same day because they were considerate of the distance involved. I was given an estimate of 4 weeks until surgery but 3 days later on Fri they asked if I wanted to go in on Monday!
In for 7.15am, out at 8.30pm and home before 10pm. They called me at 11pm to check and again at 8am in the morning, I can't speak highly enough of the teams there. And what a piece of kit that robot is. 1 week into 2 weeks rest now, no lifting and no driving for another 2/3 weeks.

Tomorrow is a week since the op and when I remove the Catheter tube myself:eek:, seriously though it's straight forward and no need for a return visit to remove it. I have plenty of follow up appointments to do, PSA is still checked and any suspicious areas can be addressed with radiation.

I know there is good awareness out there about PC, this thread was just to highlight it specifically on the BBS.

I read today that trials of a blood test for PC are very encouraging, currently the only way to diagnose is biopsy.

Give yourselves the chance of all the options and.....

State Pension - missed NI payments cut off

Just in case someone else missed it. You only have until 5h April to make up any part paid years going back to 2006 after then it's only back till 2017.
If you're like me and opted out a few years it may well be worth looking at. I'll have 34 years out of the required 35 by 5th April even though I've worked a full 38 years. But I found out via HMRC website i have 34 weeks paid up in 2016 so only need to pay £258 to make that year up and the required 35 years. That difference works out £520 a year on my state pension so you can see the benefit. You may you have even less to pay maybe a couple weeks so definitely worth looking into particularly if you're in your late 50s and early 60s and looking to retire or not intending to work all year round.

Racial Bias in Serie A

Article in Sunday's The Guardian
To view the link you have to Register or Login

Quote:
"Referees in Italy’s top football league give more yellow and red cards to Black and darker-skinned players than to their light-skinned teammates, research shows.

Officials in Serie A awarded an average of 20% more fouls per season against darker-skinned players from 2009 to 2019, with 11% more yellow cards and 16% more red cards.

But during the Covid-19 pandemic, when matches were played in empty stadiums, there was no bias in the way referees treated players. This demonstrates that authorities should prioritise banning fans responsible for racist incidents, the researchers say."

Quite an interesting article showing the effects of Football crowds on the actions of Match day referee's. One of the findings was that black and darker skinned players didn't play as aggressively on the pitch due to the thought that they were more likely to be booked by the ref. Tougher action against racist chants and fans was argued for in order to reduce this effect and that Referee's also should be monitored for their responses to the crowd that included racist chanting. This was primarily research conducted in Italy but interesting findings nonetheless.

An interesting read.

Two up top?

Anybody think it would be worth giving Mateta and Edouard a run out together, In a 4/4/2 to try and improve our scoring ?

Player Ratings And Reviews: Palace 0-0 Liverpool

samedi 25 février 2023

Played well enough. Decent midfield partnership finally.
Schlupp poor again apart from one moment when he robbed TAA. He can’t be starting games at this level. Impact sub only.
Midfield and defence very good. Olise getting better each game.
Ayew Ok, Mateta Ok but so basic.
Wilf can’t come back soon enough.

Mateta will score a hatrick today

Just got a feeling the floodgates will open for him today.

Boom boom boom boom Mateta’s in the room…

Premier League & Goals

I'm not going to say anything particularly original here but with Palace not playing until late all the Premier league matches are goalless.

We don't create a whole heap of chances (that's for sure) but criticising Vieira and likening him to Roy, is that fair? There are 6 or 7 elite teams in the league. The other 14 are just scrapping about. They can and do beat each other and lose to each other.

But the default in the Premier league, whoever you're playing, is to dig in and try not to concede the first goal. We do it. Everyone does it. Maybe it's just the devastating consequences of relegation. But it doesn't make for entertainment. Just anguish and gnawing at your own elbow.

Why do we all put ourselves through it?

Shirt sponsorship history

Thought I’d start a thread to document all our shirt sponsors over the years, as questions arise from time to time about them, especially the 80’s ones.

Palace’s first ever shirt sponsor was Red Rose in October 1983.

To view the link you have to Register or Login

Red Rose was a superstore trading division of the Co-op in the south. The only store I think they had was in Penge.

The first time we wore a sponsor then was October 15th 1983 at home to Derby, when we lost 1-0.

GoDaddy etc

Has anyone got any experience, or recommendations, on the use of GoDaddy or similar websites for building and hosting their own website?

It looks like I'm going to leave the firm I work with and set up on my own soon, I'm self-employed anyway so that side of things isn't too much of a shock, but I'll need to get a website and email address etc sorted.

It won't need to be anything too fancy as I'm not really expecting it to generate business, I've got my client bank that will come with me, but it would be good to have some kind of presence online incase recommendations & referrals want to google me.

Whilst we're at it, anyone got any recommendations for getting a logo etc designed?

Thanks

Engineering works this weekend

FYI, just looked into my trains tomorrow from East Grinstead and there are none, so anyone on that line, you'll need to drive/find an alternative option. ******* great.

U.K. Government confirms new football regulator

The plan for a regulator, recommended by a fan-led review last year, has been confirmed by the UK government.
Preventing historic clubs going out of business is one of the aims, as well as giving fans greater input and a new owners' and directors' test.

Steve Parish was on Newsnight last night, discussing the situation.

Count down timer needed.

I started thinking after Brighton last year. I just don't understand after 5670 seconds of the game they can score on 5669. It makes no sense that the game will finish at that exact point. Seems bizarre? And I'm not suggesting that referee is corrupt more that the time keeping is just amateur. Bit like the referee just allowed them to have one more attack regardless. Surely its time the EPL adopted a timer which we can all see? A proper ball in time timekeeper should manage this not the referee and of course it will mean shorter halves but I'm sorry this bullshit has to stop....:wallbash:

How do clubs like Palace sign a proven PL striker ?

samedi 18 février 2023

We all know we need a striker that can score in the Premier League but I just don’t know how clubs like us can sign them. If a PL striker is in form he will not be sold unless it’s for silly money to a top side. This means that clubs outside of the top 6 have to take a risk on either players that are not scoring in th PL or players that are playing outside of the PL with no idea on how they will get on in this league. I don’t know the answer, I do think that waiting 7ntil the end of the window to try to pay less in wages is not the way to do it.

The Real Relegation Avoidance Calculator 2022/23

I really thought this was not going to be necessary. I still do not think it is really that necessary but after today's unfortunateness I think it is only going to get worse for a while considering the matches we have coming up. So I have done the usual estimate as to where we need to be. 40 points should easily be enough to stay up and in fact 38 is likely to be quite enough.

I would stress the figures below are not my predictions just estimates of approximately what we need to get to comfortably survive. I think we will actually do better. It is a really low bar to start off with and frankly if we pass the estimate on those matches we could be safe by Easter but I am hoping the below will save too many howls and predictions of disaster and relegation over the next few weeks (fat chance!)

Cyclone Gabrielle

Kia ora, everyone.

If you are a Crystal Ball person, you may have noticed Ian Hart posting that I was incommunicado, however, power came back on a few hours ago. Not sure for how long but it seems to be holding at present so I thought I'd give you an update.

Basically on Monday night (NZ time throughout) Cyclone Gabrielle swept through NZ. Initially it was expected to hit the Far North and Auckland, already reeling from an earlier storm; but it swung around, clipping them nastily, then hit hardest in Tairawhiti and Hawke's Bay - the East Coast of the North Island. If you've ever read my location note you will have seen that I live in Napier, which is one of the twin cities in HB.

At 7.30 am on Tuesday, the Tutaekuri River breached its banks and the To view the link you have to Register or Login over a metre high. All power to Napier was lost. All bridges to the south were flooded too. In addition, the Esk River valley to the north had an even more severe flash flood. At present, there are nine deaths and 4500 people unaccounted for. One death was a toddler literally swept away from her mother. (To view the link you have to Register or Login.)

At my place, we have had neither power nor water but I did have a gas BBQ for cooking. Our neighbours have let us use their water, which was still flowing (they are blow the mains but we are above it - gravity is a harsh mistress). Without water, we could not flush but we have been using a bucket from the swimming pool to make the medicine go down. Cell phone coverage has been intermittent - my wife got a civil defense emergency evacuation notice literally six hours after I did (she's on a different network.) Fortunately, we weren't in the evacuation area. Until yesterday, I had no data coverage at all but I got a bit when I went into work so was able to contact Ian Hart - thanks Ian for your aroha. (Not so smug about England cricket now though are you? See saw game, as I expected.)

The current state is that one bridge south is open for essential travel, another is open for emergency vehicles only (ambulances, police, armed forces) the other two are damaged and being assessed - they may or may not reopen. There is no access north - all roads are down due to slips and substantial tree-fall/slash. Search and rescue helicopters are thundering over day and night, still trying to find people cut off. Cellphone coverage is back up but poor. Ok for messaging and text pages but can't handle much more. However, with power back up at my house, I have full net now. That makes me one of the lucky ones. To view the link you have to Register or Login I am in Bluff Hill, in the north east, so I am one of the very lucky ones with power, which came back on for us overnight (It's now 11.10 am on Saturday). FWIW I work in Tamatea (E).

Best wishes to any other Palace fans caught in this event. I hope you are doing fine.

Season ticket talk/arguments 23/24

jeudi 16 février 2023

Must be renewal time again soon, isn’t it?

We’re getting to that time of the year again whereby we pick the bones out of;

- Season ticket costs

- Who’s moving to another location in the ground because of the drum/person nearby that farts/person that can’t control their anger/standing/sitters

- Who’s jacking it in because we’re shit/manager clueless/board don’t invest (add any other you desire) - who’s coming back after an abstinence

- Who’s joining for the first time.

[emoji846]

FTR, here’s a recap of last season’s costs for guidance when they are announced.

Discussion: Wilf Replacements Watch

As it seems as though Wilf is probably off at the end of the season I thought it would be interesting to keep an eye on his potential replacements.

As his replacement is going to have to be someone who is already somewhat proven at a decent level and we probably won’t spend big money on anyone over 25 it should be pretty easy to identify the players we are/should be interested in.

Here’s a few of the candidates I think we should be interested in, in order of who I currently think are the best replacements:

1. Ismaila Sarr

I think the no.1 choice should be Ismaila Sarr.

He's Premier League proven and in his 2 Premier League seasons his stats were almost identical to Wilf’s despite playing in 2 awful Watford teams. He’s also the most proven goal scorer as well:

In a better team where the manager doesn’t change 3 times a season, it's difficult not to believer he won't be a better player than what he was at Watford.

With him only having a year left on his contract we may be able to sign him for less £20m if he only wants to come here.

Biggest question mark is his fitness as in his Premier League seasons he only managed to play 59% and 54% of the available minutes whereas Wilf has never played less than 74% of minutes. This season however he’s played 77.6% of the minutes and some of those minutes missed may have been due to the World Cup.

This season he’s having his best season of his career with 8 goals and 4 assists in 26 games.

Stats:

Highlights from this season:

2. Kamaldeen Sulemana

He’s only 20 and unproven but I think he might have the highest ceiling among all the prospective replacements. At the World Cup he was clocked as the fastest player at the tournament (yes, faster than Mbappe). Against Wolves at the weekend he completed 8 dribbles which is more than any other player this season in a game (Yes, it helps that Wolves had 10 men but he’s still got to past them).

Last season for Rennes he had 4 goals and 2 assists but missed February onwards with a back injury and has struggled to get back in the team. He has only 1 goal and no assists this season so there are maybe question marks over his end product and fitness but looks to me to have the technical ability to score and assist.

Here are his highlights from Saturday, Southampton fans have been saying on Twitter he’s the best talent they’ve had since Mane:

To view the link you have to Register or Login

I think he’s one to watch and if he adds end product he may be out of our reach come the end of the season.

Given he signed for Southampton when they were bottom you would imagine there is a clause that allows him to leave for what Southampton paid for him if they are relegated.

Stats:

Highlights:

3.Callum Hudson-Odoi

He’s had a bit of a stop/start career due to injuries and struggling to nail down a starting place in the Chelsea team and his lack of end product in the last two seasons is a slight concern. In the 2019/20 season he did score 1 and had 5 assists in 863 minutes and also had 2 goals and 3 assists in 1,059 minutes in the 2020/21 season which would see him get 12-18 goals + assists if he was able to play 75% of the available minutes which suggests he does have the potential.

With only a year left on his contract he will be able to dictate where he goes and so perhaps a return to Croydon would be the perfect place for him to get back on track. He has a high pass completion rates and a high percentage of successful take-ones which would indicate he has good decision making and is maybe more polished than the others.

Stats:

Highlights:

4. Jeremy Doku

Doku was who Southampton reportedly tried to sign before they signed Sulemana. Another one with a very high ceiling, extremely explosive and an excellent dribbler with a style similar to St-Maximim. Injury record is a big concern but he is already one of the elite dribblers in Europe and if he can stay fit and get a few goals and assists before then maybe they would be less of a concern.

He will have 2 years left on his contract in the summer and with his injuries Rennes my look to sell but you would think they would at least want back the £24m they paid for him.

Stats:

Highlights:

5. Luis Sinisterra

He has missed a lot of this season due to injury but his 12 goals and 7 assists in the Dutch league last season suggest he has the propensity to score and assist. Statically it seems most of his game has transferred over to the Premier League, as he has completed a high number of dribbles has a high pass completion rate so perhaps the goals and assists might come soon as well.

Will probably need Leeds to be relegated to have a chance to sign him as he’s already on a long contract.

Stats:

Highlights:

6. Armand Lauriente

This guy looks to be a safe bet without perhaps as high of a ceiling as some of the others. Only not available due to injury for 4 games since the start of last season and has a decent goals/assists return in both Ligue 1 last season and Serie A this season suggest his game is adaptable. His 4 goals and 3 assists in Serie A this season is probably more impressive than it appears as he’s playing for a struggling Sassuolo team who are currently 15th.

Looks technically very tidy and his high shot volume and accuracy indicates he’s not only has the ability to create his own shot but he’s also a good finisher as well. Seems to take a nice free kick too. He doesn’t look the quickest so might lack the pace to be a real top player.

Issue might be that Sassuolo only bought him last summer for €10m and may be reluctant to sell him.

Stats:

Highlights:

7. Dango Outtara

Although he’s left footed and has played a lot of his games on the right, 5 of his goals 4 of his assists came from playing on left for Lorient this season. His passing accuracy and successful take-on percentages are quite low but his goal and assist output so far this season indicates he already has an end product. He already has 2 assists from his Premier League starts for Bournemouth although not sure how much he knew about one of them but seems to have started well.

Stats:

Highlights:

8. Samuel Lino

Signed by Atletico Madrid last summer after 12 goals and 5 assists in the Portuguese league. Hasn’t produced much at Valencia this season but they are currently 18th in La Liga so it might be difficult to judge him. Seems strong, quick and 2 footed and as Atletico are reportedly in financial trouble they might take the chance to make a quick profit on the €6.5m they paid for him last summer.

Stats:

Highlights:

I also had a look at Gnonto at Leeds, Jota at Celtic, Zaroury at Burnley, Edozie at Southampton and Anthony at Bournemouth but they all seem a bit too unproven at the moment. That could change by the end of the season though.

Anyone have any other suggestions we should be looking at?

Christian Atsu missing

Rather sad and baffling case here former Chelsea and Newcastle player Christian Atsu is missing in Antakya the city of his current club Hatayspor. His club reported that he was in fact rescued but it now turns out that he wasn't and is still missing, they have only managed to recover some of his belongings so far. Mistaken identity during all the chaos? Hope there is a simple explanation for all this however I fear the worse given how bad the situation is in Turkey. Hopefully he is safe.

I'm sure many of us will concur that a lot of parents watching even children's football are a complete joke. It gives you an appreciation of how difficult a job it is when you have a taste of refereeing or running the line.

My son was playing in Langley Park the other week and the under 15s or 16s game behind us was interrupted by at least 3 melees amongst the players and at least one parent ran on the pitch!

Like a lot of behaviour in the UK it seriously needs addressing.

Voter I.D.

In a street poll in Exeter recently, 60% of people asked did not know that they needed an approved I.D. the next time they vote.

Lets hope the experience of voting in the May local elections will focus minds enough to help everyone be ready for 2024.

In particular, we shall need figures for how many voters were turned away and could not vote. It would also help to know which way they were going to vote had they been allowed to do so.

The opinion polls show a wide gap with Labour 20 points head of the Tories, but a large part of their vote is from those who may not have I.D. in an approved form.

CPST meeting with CPFC 26 January 2023
11th December, 2022

NOTES OF THE MEETING WITH THE CLUB – 26 JANUARY 2023

THANKS

The club was thanked for the recent tribute and remembrance for those supporters who had passed away over the last year, which was appreciated.

TICKETING

The ticketing system – there were match day difficulties with access using android phones pre-World Cup, but this had settled down and sales were going well. The earlier time given for those purchasing seats online was because the ticket office had insufficient staff to manage phone and box office attendance. The box office was keen to encourage online take up and would help people get set up. For 200-300 phone sales there could be thousands of online sales. This would leave staff more time to cover other matters.

Ticket resales – fixture changes, transport strikes and inclement weather prevented some supporters from attending matches. Hence season ticket holders had been selling their seats online. The club preferred that season ticket and ticket holders used the club ticket resale system which has no restrictions on resales. This helped the club track purchases. The NFC (near-field communication) wireless technology, which allows smart phones and android phones to act as season tickets when held against the turnstiles’ scanners/readers, helped with reducing touting. The link provides instructions for placing season tickets for resale To view the link you have to Register or Login

Late Arrivals – finding their allocated turnstile entrance closed were not required to attend the box office for a new ticket for an open entrance. Stewards should be at the entrances until half-time and be able to direct people to an open turnstile, which vary from one match to another. Otherwise, late arrivals can approach the Information Centre near the Fan Zone at the back of the Main Stand to seek assistance.

Digital ticketing trial was undertaken for the Everton away match and was considered to have worked well. Further digital ticketing trials are anticipated – for away supporters coming to CPFC.

Away seating plans – it was reported at the last meeting that clubs provide layouts in the form of Excel spreadsheets with limited information, but that clubs can liaise with the away clubs around best seats, aisles and step locations for those with access needs. It was queried why this information could not be made available to all supporters, particularly as there may be reasons for requiring a particular seat location if available. Since the Excel away layouts often failed to reflect reality on the ground, it was suggested Crystal Palace take a lead through the SLO and in liaison with the SLO network and clubs’ box offices to establish improved away seating layouts and information for all away supporters across the Premier League. The matter would be raised at the next SLOs’ meeting.

Away allocations have been taken in full except for Manchester United – which has failed to sell out in the last 6 years. Sales started slowly but the 2,400 allocation has now sold out.

Coaches – a review of seat number ticket allocations on coaches was requested. The club thought it was always first come first serve, with the coach stewards covering any seating concerns, however this would be considered.

Disability – Rhianna Odartey, from the box office was congratulated on her promotion to Disabled Liaison Officer (DLO). Pam Groves, the former DLO was now providing support in the box office on match days only. Liaison around the access and exiting of supporters with disabilities to and from away grounds was raised. This was especially when coaches were parked away from a dedicated parking area close to away entrances/exits. The club undertook to improve liaison with away clubs to reduce any safety risks to supporters with disabilities or to others.

Women’s Team Season Tickets – were understood to cover both league and cup matches, yet supporters were charged for the FA Cup match against Watford. The club were unable to confirm – usually Cup matches are purchased separate from league games. It was possible the season tickets covering both were arranged by the former General Manager for the Women’s team.

Early Season Tickets – the club were considering season ticket prices for next season. It was requested that any increase in charges should be reasonable and not too high.

Waiting List – the Brentford away match was sold out, but the online waiting list for tickets appeared not to be working. The club would check the position.

Advance notification of fixture changes – the club confirmed it had conveyed concerns about delays in fixture change notifications to the Premier League, following its undertaking at the last meeting. The recent short notice for the rearranged home match with Manchester United – was decided by the Premier League following consideration of Manchester United’s pending games and dates/time slots available.

COMMUNICATIONS

Website information – for ease of reference to check across match listings for the different categories of Men’s First Team, Academy Teams and Women’s Team and to highlight overlaps and provide update information on changes it was suggested that a calendar of dates and times with venues might be constructed. This would be raised with the website team.

Women’s matches – electronic listings/information – at the previous meeting it was requested that players’ names and shirt numbers be provided. This had not happened.. There was also confusion over match dates such as the Watford/Charlton games, timings with the use of BST rather than GMT, and with the lack of venue details. These points would be referred for attention to the person responsible for the Women’s social media account.

Palace TV Transmission interruptions – these occurred on two occasions – with the tour match in Turkey due to a satellite connection failure and at Dulwich Hamlet when part of a match was lost due to an equipment issue, for which the club apologised.

STADIUM

The Main Stand development – there was no further update to report.

Museum and Archive – further to the Chairman’s pre-Christmas message, internal arrangements for the new stand were still being determined, and a museum/archive would be dependent on the practicalities of available space. It was commented that walls within the new stand might contribute to museum displays.

Rest of the Stadium – the inclement weather had contributed to the need for repairs – including gutters, tiles, and the Arthur Wait’s facade and toilet roof. These had been repaired or repairs were being undertaken.

Stadium Messaging – the TV screen was not visible in parts of the stadium; the prospect of a second TV screen was raised. It was suggested that the linear electronic advertising around the pitch might be used for messages. This would not be possible for complex messaging but a simple message like ‘no trains running’ was feasible. This would be considered.

Rail Seating – was due to be installed in row 35 at the back of the Lower Holmesdale for a trial period to the end of the season on 30 January 2023.

Stewarding – the number of stewards available for the Manchester United and Newcastle home matches were queried. Both matches had the right quota of stewards, with more than usual for the Manchester United match, but the stewards were concentrated on the away end. The concerns about away supporters in home stands reflected, to some extent, season ticket holders selling their seats online.

Pitch Incursions – during the home match with Manchester United there were two incursions. A 17 year old came from a home stand and posed for a selfie with a Manchester United player. He was arrested and charged by the police and the season ticket holder, who sold the seat, received a club ban. The other incursion was by a young juvenile who has been spoken to by the club, with the parent. This has been treated as a safeguarding matter. The season ticket holder in this case was a neighbour. Both season ticket holders have been banned from the club for 3 years. The advice to season ticket holders is to use the club’s resale scheme to reduce the risk of a ban.

Stewards’ Positions – at the entrances to the seating areas from the concourses had been previously raised due to restricting the space. Stewards had been briefed and advised to be mindful of their positioning especially when people would be accessing/exiting through entrances.

Female Toilets – details of the number of female toilets within the stadium was not to hand. As the club was to host the FA Women’s Continental League Cup Final on Sunday 5th March, the provision of facilities was being considered. The new main stand would allow for a higher number of female toilets. It was noted that young children, boys, and girls, put additional pressure on the existing female toilets, and they were unable to reach the sinks, taps and soap dispensers. It was requested that lower level sinks be installed. This was already the case in some female toilets, but the club would look where this might be possible. The club were considering installing long canal type sinks in the future.

Text Alerts – the text alert number was used by supporters to convey not only safety concerns and issues, but to comment/complain about the food, team, referee and a range of management matters.

Stadium Tours – the tours were going well, providing information and quirky snippets for interest and receiving good feedback. The Academy Founder members were also to be invited to the Stadium Tours.

CATERING

Catering supplies – were going well with good lead times and suppliers making sure supplies were there for match days or providing an alternative. Deliveries took place from Monday to Saturday.

Spend – despite the economic crisis there was no discernible drop in spending. The club had competitive pricing and was holding prices as much as possible, however food costs are increasing and the club was trying not to pass this on to customers.

Post Match Half Price Hot Food – remaining hot food post-match was continuing to be sold at specific food points in the Holmesdale, Arthur Wait, White Horse and Main Stand. There was good uptake.

Food Quality – the chef checks on food quality and suitability. A variety of vegan pies were tested before Goddard’s pies were chosen. Commercial businesses make approaches with food offerings which are considered in terms of variety and whether they fit alongside what the club already provides.

Sustainability – it was noted the law on single use plastic comes into effect this year. The club now have wooden cutlery and use recyclable plastic cups and are fully Government compliant.

Feedback – the club created a variety of foods at the start of the season – with pies and burgers being the most popular. The club are happy to receive feedback on what people like and dislike and any catering suggestions.

ACADEMY

Academy completion – the roof of the Academy stand was not complete, hence supporters were unable to attend matches, and the medical rehabilitation centre has yet to be built – builders have indicated late summer.

Team sheets – had not been available for Academy matches. It was suggested that Sam Lyall (sam.lyall@cpfc.co.uk) at the Academy be contacted.

Academy Tours – received positive feedback and were going well.

WOMEN’S GAME

Management of the Women’s Game – further assistance was to be introduced for the management of the women’s game, which the club were keen to support..

Selhurst ParkMatches – flag displays with supporters accompanying them would be permitted and there would be home and away seating blocks with a neutral block between the two.

Hayes Lane Matches – the club would endeavour to better promote the Palace Women’s matches held at Bromley and to look to draw attention to the matches in and around Bromley and the ground.

Match Day Programmes – messages indicated programmes were collectable at the match, but they were not seen. The club would arrange for these to be made available.

Website – still referred to Women, rather than Women’s First Team. This was because there was only one women’s team. The women’s academy players were not recognised as forming teams.

AOB

Ownership and Finances – further to recent news items referring to the club’s ownership, the club was asked about the share breakdown and the status of CPFC under the Eagle Football Holdings, and whether it was deemed a feeder club, and if there was any news expected on transfers with reports of Vieira’s discontent with the lack of progress. The club was unable to comment.

Statement – Further to the pre-Christmas message from the Chairman it was politely requested that the Chairman be asked to give a further detailed statement related to ownership of the club including:

the share ownership breakdown and the holders of the shares in Crystal Palace FC
what is the Eagle Football Holdings – its purpose, mission, vision, and who are the major shareholders and how is it controlled for now – and into the future
the impact and implications for Crystal Palace FC – and the other associated clubs under the Holdings and their fans and employees
the potential risk to Crystal Palace FC
Congratulations were offered for Phil Alexander becoming CEO at Bristol City, for David Ozoh making his first team debut, and to John Kymani Gordon on his first Carlisle goal shown on TV

Suggested Team and Formation For: Brentford (a) 18/12/23

Guaita
Clyne - Tomkins - Guehi - Mitchell
Doucoure
Lokonga - Ahamada
Olise - Ayew - Edouard

Johnstone, Balmer, Riedewald, Milivojevic, McArthur, Hughes, Schlupp, Eze, Mateta

Can’t find any acceptable combination of attackers. In my opinion this is probably the best we can do.

Get those new midfielders in, they look like they can do the business. McArthur to come on from the bench.

Other than that, we desperately need Wilf back and we desperately need Andersen to help with our distribution.

Player Ratings And Reviews: Brighton (home)

Poll to follow. Agree with Pat, felt we deserved at least a point, could have had all 3 on another day

We are really bad at football

Couldn't even celebrate our goal much today.

0 efforts on goal apart from that header.

99 passes in one half of football is woeful. It is not even close to where it should be.

We have no cohesion.

So many of our players look completely uncomfortable in possession. Who out there today was showing for the ball? They are all scared or out of ideas.

Summed up towards the end as our players languidly limped towards 90 minutes, zero aim to win, simply trying to scrape through a 1-1. I won't complain about ability but I will about energy levels and application. Hardly anyone looked like they wanted it today.

They all looked knackered from the off.

What has happened?

Mateta and Edouard are woeful

This has to be the worst striker we options in the league. Neither has any clue. Can’t trap it, can’t hold it, can’t pass, can’t head it. Play some kids

Crystal Ball: Jesurun Rak-Sakyi .... Good enough to play for the first team or Sell?

Scored again the other day ..... 8th goal maybe and it was a great goal!
Do we keep or sell?
What's he worth now?
Or loan again next season to a championship club?

Did we all get the notification on this? Seems like a positive move by the club on the face of it!

It's available at a news item in the app and website.

What are your thoughts? It's this a good move?

Personally I applaud this on the surface but would need to understand more about it

Digital Pound and other digital currencies.

mardi 7 février 2023

Looks like the bank of England is going ahead with launching this currency. I'm not sure of the benefits if any, or the pitfalls. Why is it needed anyway? Plus apparently there is going to be a DGBP limit @ 20,000 ceiling.

Doesn't a credit card that you pay off every month without accruing interest do exactly the same thing?

So who will be getting some of this Digital currency?

I just don't get the need for it? Especially with all the electronic transactions we have already.

Game management and ‘head injuries’

Reading the ‘nasty or nice’ thread in GPD, and I’m noticing some posters say that we need to get better at ‘game management’. Which is probably true, we don’t run down the clock which all the other clubs are doing right now.

Ultimately I don’t like it, I think something needs to be done about it, either a 60 minute stopwatch or a WC style injury time. At the moment, neutral games become far too tedious, and it was agonising to watch Man Utd run down a 7 minute injury time by constant time wasting.

Contrast that to the World Cup just gone where games were actually interesting and exciting to watch.

The leads me on to what I just believe is a plague on the Premier League right now, the feigning of the head injury to stop play. I think it’s actually worse than diving.

The example at the weekend being that Fernandes ran into the ref, pretended he hurt his head while Palace were on a very dangerous counter attack, and the ref stops it half way through! It was nothing sort of disgraceful in my opinion.

There needs to be a solution to this. One that I just thought of is that the player in question needs to go off for 5 minutes for a HIA (head injury assessment) every time play is stopped due to a head injury. Or could you allow 1 physio to run onto the pitch to treat a head injury, even when play is active, similar to rugby. Not sure, any suggestions?

Football is becoming tiresome now, due to ‘game management’. It’s always been there, but I do think it’s got worse over the last couple of years.

Ticket Stub from Old Trafford

Hi guys
Apologies for crashing this forum. I’m a United fan who collects ticket stubs. This season they only issue paper tickets to away fans. Hence my request for assistance - I’d offer £10 to a charity of choice if anyone can assist.

Train advice for Saturday vs weeds

My daughter is taking the train home to Birmingham after this massive fixture. She'll plans to be leaving from Euston to Birmngham so would, I imagine, get a train to Victoria from Selhurst then the tube to Euston.

I wanted to ask what the queues and delays are like on that service post match these days? Are there queues coming out of Selhurst station? How long does it generally take to actually get a train and up to Clapham or Victoria?

Any advice or recommendations??

….what an utter c.unt. Discuss.

Mods.. please add the word “week” to the title. However, I do understand you are probably getting on with your lives, unlike Shapps who has to concentrate on being a lying , vexatious c*nt. Yo, Granty I am not one of your constituents , but please feel free to take me to court.

Ahamada

Wasn't on long, but put a good ball back into the box where Mateta should've done better, and a nicely paced low cross from the right, the sort we usually would look to pass back to the full back.

I have a good feeling about him.

Simon Case

Given my career history, I'm not normally one to make civil servants scapegoats for Ministers' failing, but how is Case still in a job? He seems to have his fingerprints all over every scandal; from partygate, through Johnson's loan guarantee, to Raab bullying.
