Supporters like me of a certain age will remember the three games we played v Arsenal end of October and in November 1970. The 3 games attracted well over 100,000 people, two in the League Cup, and one league game at Highbury. I saw all three games which was Arsenal's Double Season. Palace knocked them the out of the League Cup on November 9th thanks to goals by Gerry Queen and a penalty hit home by Bobby Tambling (it was their only home defeat). The following Saturday we played them again at Highbury, and got a 1-1 draw Alan Birchenall scoring a minute after they had taken the lead. I someone managed to get a stand ticket for that game, bur remember it was pouring with rain that day, and recall seeing soaked friends back at the tube station. The picture attached is Palace hero for that game and many other around that time of a mud caked John Jackson. He and the rest of the team played so well containing wave after wave of arsenal attacks. The ground was terrible not like today's pitches.
