This is someone who's cropped up here a couple of seasons ago but since we're not meant to bump old threads from previous seasons I'll restart it here. He ended up going on loan to West Ham.
He's had a cracker at Las Palmas this year, scoring 8 goals and 3 assists in La Liga, and 3 goals in 4 matches in the Spanish cup. Las Palmas have been relegated, so he'll no doubt be loaned out again by the Uruguayan second division team CD Maldonado that has been loaning him out ever since acquiring him a few years ago. He's just too good for them, but they are hoping that next year they will finally be in the top division in Uruguay, right now they are doing well with their regular centre-forwards Max Rauhofer and Federico Laens.
Of course, rather than loaning him out again, perhaps CD Maldonado would consider selling him. I would have thought £6m would clinch it. That's a huge amount of money for CD Maldonado, whose entire squad is not worth that much on paper.
Here's the latest goal summary of the current season at Las Palmas:
There's shedloads of stuff on YouTube of his previous seasons but I guess it's this season what is most relevant. The above video isn't the best compilation I've seen and it takes a while to get going, but this is just from this season playing in a very lowly team from the Canary Islands that got relegated from La Liga. As you will see, he seems particularly good at scoring with his head, he's 6 foot and kind of find himself at the end of good crosses more often than not. Watching Benteke miss some sitters this season, I am sure Calleri would have tucked many of them away.
Let's not kid anyone, he's not going to set the premiership alight, but he'd be available at the right price and he's the sort of player we could afford and nurture.
Admittedly, he did not do well at West Ham, scoring 1 goal in 17 appearances. But that could be down to West Ham. Simone Zaza couldn't score a single goal in 8 matches at West Ham, but managed to score 12 this season at Valencia.
